I really wish more schools would teach that elections are, fundamentally, a mathematics problem. and I understand why we don't like to look at it like that because that's a horrible, horrible way to look at the world - far easier to look at voting as a hero's journey, grabbing your sword and standing up against the system, than doing an equation with peoples' lives - but unfortunately that's what democracy is. picking the least shit option not for your own edification, but because if you don’t the more shit option will get in.

like, I can't blame anyone for being mad at a particular party for treating a certain group of people awfully, that just means you have moral standards, but it's a basic fact that before every election you have to do a little maths problem in your head. and for this election cycle that problem looks a little like 'X party causes 100 units worth of harm vs Y party causes 5000 units amount of harm; oh, and either X or Y will win the election regardless of my abstention; sacrificing my vote with abstention or a third party is, sadly, a fantasy for kids; so what am I prepared to do that will result in the least harm done.’

like. that's how it works. it sucks. I get it. I don't know a single country with a voting system that works perfectly. I don’t know of a single example in human history where they got a perfect voting system. there's a reason why democracy is known as being the least bad option out there. it's still the option you need to preserve and engage in.

A white woman on Twitter got mad at me because she actually thought that if Andy Beshear was the VP pick with Harris; more white women would’ve voted for her instead of Trump.

If you voted for Donald Trump, I literally have zero respect for you. This is not up for debate, this is not a matter of ‘opinion’ when people are losing their rights, and when people are literally going to fucking die because y’all wanted cheaper groceries and a fucking tax break?? I promise this’ll be the last of the political posting- but I still wanna do my small part, by telling any US folks, who don’t already know, that there is a petition to sign, on Change.org, to do a recount of the 2024 US Election, to try and expose Trump as the fraudulent bastard he is 👍🏻

The results to the eu elections have been horrifying to look at, to say the least. Watching the far right rise is what we all feared would happen, and despite being prepared, the dissappointment was massive.

But, I would like to point out, that most things in life are not black and white, and so we must not loose hope. It would be one thing if far right got a massive majority in the parliament, but so far they haven't. EPP getting the most seats is nothing new, and so far ECR and ID still aren't even top 3. While the overall distribution might seem overwhelmingly right-wing, a respectable portion are still in the middle when it comes to values.

I've come to terms that in the lack of better, middle ia good. I can survive a middle ground.

My overall point is, that in an age such as the one we live in, where we fear the polarization of nations and people, we must not be a part of the problem. Following politics nowadays has become exhausting, when the objective is not to make people's lives better, but to make sure the other side loses. This is true for both the left and the right. Nobody is willing to listen to the other side and everybody is too busy either screaming at each others' faces, rolling their eyes, or just not listening. I've witnessed this in finnish politics, in american politics and in eu-politics.

The things said by these far right politicians are scary, but I try to remain optimistic, and trust that they are a tactic to scare the opponent and to scam voters.

The main take away for me is that when we fight the other side on these things instead of having a mature conversation, that's when we feed the cycle of hate - when we feed the cycle of hate, nobody ever wins

Woke up to find that an incredibly large chunk of the American population decided they wanted a dictatorship over a democracy. They decided they were okay with a government who removes those that disagree with its decisions, to abolish the department of education, to censor media and alter & erase history to support its extremist agenda. They decided that immigrants; the backbone of their country and the people who do the heavy lifting and hard work that they so often refuse to do are nothing but trash that should be removed. They decided that LGBTQ+ people are not worthy of any sort of protection and neither is marriage equality. They decided that women do not deserve to have a say when it comes to their body and that states should have to report all miscarriages and abortions, that the lower and middle class should have an even harder time getting affordable medical care than they already do. They decided that climate change is no longer an issue, that it never was, and that as a country they should spend less time investing in stopping it. I could go on and on but why would I when all of that is already so awful? That country is officially a waste and to anyone who voted for Donald Trump, you will never have my respect and one day I hope you realize how your choices will well and truly ruin people’s lives.

To those who voted the right way, I’m sorry. You deserve so much better.

After three trips to Michigan I’m more determined than ever to flip Indiana blue in 2024. In the last 24 hours I’ve seen more “signs” of ignorance than I’ve seen in total all year where I live. It’s sickening that people are doubling down. Indiana wasn’t red when I moved there in 1991 and went blue for Obama in 2008. The energy right now is even stronger than it was then. Next Friday I will be attending a meeting to become acquainted with others in my community who are working for positive change. I believe there are many more like-minded folks than I realize. It’s time to stop cowering in fear and come out roaring!

I’ve been saying it for years but these fucking gen z podcast boys proved it last night. Voting republican is a fucking privilege. To be able to “care” about the economy and democracy is currently a fucking PRIVILEGE. A lot of us are trying to be respected as people. A lot of us have to vote blue just to keep basic rights. I wouldn’t vote red even if I had the option to, but the point is that I’m supposed to have the option.

Its telling. Its damaging. Its disheartening.
