Aroace Sonic pt 11

I have FeelingsTM about these cotton-candy colored friends

1. Behold! The line! When it comes to forms of physical affection Sonic is chill with a lot of stuff, but the last thing he ever wants to do is truly hurt his friends so you best beleive he gets serious in putting some things in the off-limits box for their sake. (And after that line is established he's back to teasing and being a little self-absorbed like nothing happened. Moving past it so they don't have time to feel embarrassed.)

2. Amy's begrudging about it, but he hit the nail on the head. She's a little embarrassed he read her so easily but she's not exactly surprised. (She is crushing on this guy for a reason and it's not just cause he's cool.)

3. Whether or not Sonic really kissed Rouge or if it was just the angle is still up for debate but that didn't matter here. What matters is Amy's reaction to thinking he did. He could have easily said that's not what happened but that wouldn't have addressed the real issue. So instead of exactly confirming or denying he goes right for the actual problem. He does this type of thing a lot, letting people assume certain things about him so he can get to the root of the issue. As he says, he's fine with being the bad guy sometimes. (Not that he's being bad here but y'know what I mean he's okay with conflict.)

And it’s Kevin when he saw how Riko was punishing Jean just for looking, how the world treated Jeremy, and how easily it is to slip a perfect plasticy shiny smile for the public. They don’t want truth anyway.

It’s the most optimal option in the mind full of statistics and guilt.

It’s the most safe option because he’s already surrounded by people that would do anything for him and would never betray him, so why leave a safe space.

It’s the most comfortable option because the world doesn’t have to know, they’d twist and spin it, make up theories about them and claim it in the most offensive way, missing out the tenderness and depth of it.

The odds are not in the favour of coming out. Neither is logic.

And still.

Something craves in Kevin when he sees optimistic and genuine Jeremy, that’s politely changed the rules and became a captain of the Golden court; pieced and glued together by a golden powder Jean, with his soft eyes and fierce protectiveness; fearless Neil that would rather endure endless torture and open his arms to the death itself if it means protecting his people; silent and stoical Andrew that wouldn’t budge in the face of the hellhounds if it means to protect his family and promises behind his back.

Maybe not right away. Maybe not even this or the next year. But bit by bit Kevin relaxes. Slowly his mind forget Riko’s voice, not noticing an emptiness of that taunting grating sound, his scars fade away into silvery stripes of lightning, and finally the pliable mask crack in.
