Ant Colony (From Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls) (Alissa Nutting) "When space on earth became very limited, it was declared all people had to host another organism on or inside of their bodies. Many people chose something noninvasive, such as barnacles or wig-voles. Some women had breast operations that allowed them to accommodate small aquatic life within implants. But because I was already perfectly-breasted (and, admittedly, vain) I sought out a doctor who, for several thousands of dollars, drilled holes into my bones to make room for an ant colony."
It is with that paragraph that begins Ant Colony, a short story published as part of the book Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls, the debut short story collection of author Alissa Nutting. Beside the obvious Corruption theme of its very premise, the rest of the story also touches on another, often overlooked element of this Entity: Twisted, unhealthy love."
SPOILERS BELOW CUT
The Masque of the Red Death (Edgar Allan Poe) "The Red Death was a disease spread throughout the land, and eventually taking on a physical form to spread the disease to those nobles who isolated themselves. It came in the form of a party goer dressed as a victim of the disease, manifesting in the way that would cause the most terror as they realised it could not be escaped or killed. It fits the theme of disease and other parts of the Corruption manifesting as something human-ish, as well as it gradually consuming even those of try to escape it."
Ant Colony, cont.: The plot twist of the story is that the ants hadn't begun eating the nameless narrator alive from within because the queen ant hated her, as the other doctors she talks to had theorized, but because the doctor who she had paid to implant the ants into her bones, who had already been established as having a creepy crush on her, had been purposely manipulating things in order to get the ants to assimilate her consciousness and eat her whole from the very beginning, all so that he could get the ant colony to inhabit him next because, as he puts it: "When you all crawl inside of me, we will all be one forever."

Now we need to figure out with father-son, mother-son, and mother-dauggter relationship is the best
Hmmmmmmm... first father-daugther. Now...
Father-son! I ain't picky. I don't care if it's biological, step-father, adoptive father, father figure, I don't care. A daddy's a daddy. Ew.
I'm 100% convinced Zeus doesn't talk to any of his kids btw
I love giving people options that I know they're not gonna choose. You know which ones...

I'm currently reading "War Against All Puerto Ricans: Revolution and Terror in America's Colony" by Nelson A. Denis, and I cannot recommend this book highly enough, especially if you're Puerto Rican. The lengths the US government went to just to keep the independence movement down and to keep the island under its thumb are insane.

thinking about the affective link between vampires and slaveownership in american literature. a surprising number of the most popular works of vampire fiction set in america, from the vampire chronicles to the twilight saga to abraham lincoln, vampire hunter (2012), has one or more vampire characters either personally own a plantation and slaves or fought to defend slavery. and the interesting thing is you would think this is largely because of the parallels between vampirism and enslavement as the ultimate dehumanization and violation of another person’s will, or because the american civil war has a historical narrative as the ultimate battle against the forces of evil lurking among us, but abraham lincoln, vampire hunter (2012) is the one work i’ve seen that actually presents it from that angle. most other works, including interview with the vampire and twilight, just present the plantation as flavoring, with the humans that the vampire has openly and legally enslaved relegated to set dressing. which suggests to me that those works are using it as the traditional solution to the traditional american gothic problem—that is to say, that gothic fiction typically centers around ancient and deep-rooted aristocratic families, something a settler colony like america obviously lacks, so american writers from edgar allan poe onwards who wanted to write gothic fiction in as non-revisionist a style as possible seized upon the pseudo-aristocracy of the southern gentlemen for their setting. this doesn’t make it any less of a lazy and unexamined choice on the authors’ part, but it does offer an interesting insight into america’s affective geography

Another lad fresh out of the beetle tank. They did an awesome job uncovering all this weirdness. Look at those teeth! The only hint of that giant hole on the upper palate was a tiny tiny hole that I didn't even notice until looking back at pictures. I'm glad it healed up for the poor guy, but ouch that must've hurt.

"Shielded by my own obscurity, and by the lapse of years, and a few fictitious names, I do not fear to venture; and will candidly lay before the public what I would not disclose to the most intimate friend." (Agnes Grey, A Novel – Anne Brontë, 1847)
anne brontë likers we need to unionize.
ah, the 1840s! the brontë sisters, edgar allen poe, charles dickens... and what i can only imagine is an incredibly confusing amount of petticoats. the torso becomes thinner and longer, with the characteristic "point" ending of the bodice. skirts continue to grow, and grow, and grow... you get the point. sleeves fluctuate through this era, but are more often than not kept close to the arms – a major difference from the 1830s. the stereotypical victorian conservatism can be seen in daydresses of this era. speaking of daydresses, it became easier for women of the (gasp) lower class to mimic the styles of upper class women, as fashion moved from trims to the fabric and cuts themselves. its much easier for your average woman to obtain fabric than to obtain jewels, for example. going forward, expect a mix of upper and lower (more accurately, the slowly forming middle) class fashions!
also, i have been flying through these. i have no idea how long this amount of energy and hyperfocus is going to last. also also, to every cc creator that is getting tagged over and over: i'm sorry. it is a cc desert out here and you are oases. also also also: i reused a dress once. i could have sworn i downloaded ten but apparently i only downloaded nine ??

im making a thread of things that happened in the wolverine's canonical lifespan. Cause they had movie that was supposed to be his ORIGIN story, but it gave 5 minutes to one experience in his childhood and 45 cumulative seconds to like THREE major wars he was in. So just to highlight how rich this character COULD be with culture across actual CENTURIES here's some shit that Logan Howlett lived through since he was born in the year of our lord, 1832. (By the way, as of earlier this month, that makes him 192 years old cause I think some people just wanted him to have the same birthday as hugh jackman which is great and I support it but I also can't find any evidence that it's actually true.) the last note I will make is that 1832 is neither the date supported by the comics and I've heard that it's not even true for Origins, but it's the most commonly cited and I think it will all be okay. it will all be okay in time. Oh yeah, and spoilers for x men origins Wolverine.
- For historical background, 1801 in America saw the election of Thomas Jefferson, who was the THIRD ever president of the US, so just for context the revolutionary war was just under 30 years prior and the events of Hamilton the musical will shake out within 3 years.
- Anyways in Canada after the American revolution the British split the territory in half, upper and lower Canada and all the British loyalists in the North American colonies went up there. 20 years after the split was the war of 1812.
- Washington Irving was alive during what would be Logan's parents? Time? which I mention because I think Beast would quote him and it would send Logan into a flashback that's the only reason
FROM HERE OUT Logan was probably alive for these things:
- Charles Darwin visits the Galápagos Islands in 1835 but it's hard to say how that really fits in with there being 'evolved' mutants but it's an interesting thought.
- Telegraphs were being widely used by the 1840s. Cool
- there's the Great famine in Ireland late 1840s which kicks off a lot of immigration to the US, in time for the gold rush starting around 1848. Also during this period Edgar Allan Poe hits national fame
- Ok finally getting to the First fucking thing we even see in Origins after the initial opening scene. This is being shown WHILE credits are rolling: the civil war. (1861-65) (Idk if him and Victor are still living in Canada at this point or if they've emigrated to the US after being on the run(?) but it doesn't really matter since Canadians did fight in the war regardless, mostly on the union side, obviously. By this time, they're both certifiably adults. Also Abraham Lincoln is assassinated.
- the late 1870s had graham bell's telephone and Edison's lightbulb. And wax cylinders for music on phonographs. Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana in the summer of 1876
- 1886 I wrote "statue of liberty put up. damn."
- 1890's: Wounded Knee, Carnegie hall OPENS, Sherlock Holmes first appears in a newspaper. kinda thought that was interesting. 93 there's a depression in America that foreshadows the Great Depression, then oh this one is important,
- 1894 has the first motorcycle production in the US! wow.. later Logan will buy his favorite '48 panhead "new off the line"
#Probably more to come#did I miss something big#logan howlett#Wolverine#x men origins: wolverine#opposite of history buff#history weak. history scrawny#the wolverine#is there a difference in those tags#this is all context and fodder for me and the evil yaoi fandom to make head cannons from#by the way#so this goes out to you evil fans of old man yaoi

These are the only characters where I wonder how they got their medallions:
I guess Greg Heffley could've gotten his medals from winning a video game competition. That's the only thing he's good at.
Edgar... has zero talent. Except for eating. Maybe he won a pie eating competition or something.
Mya is not a native to Poptropica. Where did she get it?
