Work's been very stressful lately and I got hooked on @jellymellydraws 's "I've Got You" fic to unwind — it's a treat. Astarion is a bard, Alfira's joined camp and nothing bad has happened (...yet...?), the ensemble cast is really well-handled, I am having a fantastic time.

Anyway it got me thinking about whether or not our Durges could be friends. I think the answer is yes. :>

I am in some ways sad that the doctrinal disputes between Orin and Durge were limited to one letter exchange ('do you remember that our doctrine demands finesse you fucking blockhead??' and Orin's hatred of guns and artillery, which take away from the art that is Bhaalist tradition and demeans his faith, -V.S.- 'I assure you that a death is death and Bhaal does not give a shit' and Durge's apparent sole interest in sating the Urge, burying themselves in the pleasure, and killing everybody in as high quantities and as fast as possible so that they can be free of all this. Or so I'm reading it.)

Because it's clearly an ongoing argument, so did they normally argue and debate to each others' faces or is there just a whole mountain of eloquent yet aggressive letters debating the finer points of family, murder-cult faith, thanatology, and 'duel to the death-synods and why we should have one' somewhere?

On the other hand it's good there is some space to interpret Durge's stance on the faith and how their ongoing rift developed.

I kind of picture it as both the previous description and also; 'doctrine and prayer is for mortals, Bhaal made me for different things (indiscriminate murder)' and 'I am our god; those rules don't apply to me.' With a touch of severe depression and trauma, and getting high off of murder as the coping mechanism.

AU where Halsin immediately figures out durge is a Bhaalspawn with a brain injury.

Personal headcanon:

Halsin can’t handle spicy food very well. Yes he did have stomach problems (at first, he was fine after a month) when he lived a year at Jyothika’s village and he would join her family for dinner every night (he was technically a guest of her Amma’s, her Amma asked Halsin to teach some of the villagers, who had Druid magic, and he stayed on for a year to do so)

But he loves sweet food (one of his fav things is honey after all). And he loved all the desserts that her people made

So when he joins the camp and realizes that not only can Jyothika cook now, she can also make all of her people’s desserts (especially Gulab Jamun) you better believe he starts bugging her to make it often

And yes he was a bit of a menace at the tiefling party when Jyothika was making food for everyone (in my headcanon, Jyothika makes all the food for the party because she wants the refugees to have a good meal to celebrate the fact that they survived the goblin camp) and he kept trying to eat the desserts and she had to swat him away before finally roping him and Bhavan (who kept trying to sneak pieces of the grilled meat) into helping her cook

She also gets Gale to help her cook too, since it’s a lot of food for a lot of people and it’s the one time he doesn’t fight with her about cooking

Bhavan meanwhile was on cloud nine the entire time he was eating her food during the party because, as I mentioned before, he’s from the same culture as her. He does not remember his past at this point however which means he does not remember that this is his food culture too. But he recognizes everything, once he tastes it, as something he grew up eating. And after the tenth time of commenting “oh my gosh I know this, I think I grew up eating this” Jyothika is finally like “Bhavi, I think you might be from the same culture as me”

Which is very exciting for her (even if he doesn’t remember) because it’s been ages since she last met anyone from her culture

Raphael has been more of a guide during Vals journey. There to provide council should she ask. But he insists Val learn most things herself. So Raphael stepping in to warn her in this one moment was to be taken seriously. He doesn't want to lose her, even if he's trying to play coy about it.

How would Fine feel about being desired by some random person (who inexplicably knows all about situation)? Or are his nether regions only programmed to react to Minty and/or Gorty?

It's complicated I guess.

My man's jaded, and a bi, kinda arospec catastrophe.

If he catches wind of someone knowing him, his first response is hostility. He has the ultimate trust issues, and considering the past has shown him that they're usually warranted, he does not deal well with such stuff.

On the other hand, manage to bond or view him as a human and he'll perform great sacrifices if need be. He'll never label it cuz everyone he's ever loved either a) died or b) tried to kill him (damn this man has an awful track record) but he gives absolutely no fucks about what's between ur legs though.

So if I were to write a comprehensive How to romance Guide:

1) don't be Gortash, unless you own the city he wants to live in.

2) bond with him

3) enjoy the fruits of your labour. Now you can also tell him you knew him; he will feel betrayed but he'll quickly get over it by grace of delusion and denial.

I drew Century already over here! Their tag is #durge: century. It was important to me that they be Very Pathetic At All Times; never more than 30 seconds away from dissolving into tears.

Hemlock is also a mess and also about two steps away from a nervous breakdown for most of the game, but at least he hides it better. He's just starting to crack, whereas Century has already been smashed to smithereens, you feel? (Astarion gets his teeth into both of them, for better or worse...)

I just really like characters who're in the midst of a faith/personal identity crisis, it fuels me.

3rd run of my boy here we go!

I've had a whole post about Sylas and his alienation from his own name sitting in my drafts for days. The abridged version is that his adoptive family named him Sylas Maeve - and he has tried to shed his first name to become a tool but it has haunted him for more than a century of life.

When he wakes up on the nautiloid the first name he remembers is exactly that - Sylas Maeve.

This all started as a fucked up joke, but consuming the (possibly toxic) blood and flesh of the child of your god and experiencing a premonition of death genuinely sounds like a great religious ceremony for a religion that worships death and murder. Especially if it kills said divine child, and they have to be resurrected. I think I might actually adapt it into my own canon from now on.
