I was thinking about “I am the dirt under your nails” and first of all I don’t think it can be ignored that the title of e9 is derived from this line. Considering that, this line is evidently not meant to be a cutesy throwaway line between Cait and Vi, it has huge thematic weight and implications. If you think about the title “The Dirt Under Your Nails” in this context, it’s clear that it’s meant to refer to the fact that all of our characters have dirt under their nails. As in, their hands aren’t clean. They’ve all committed wrongs, because they’re all human, which is obviously a major theme of this season/show. The second part of this dialogue is “nothing’s gonna clean me out,” which fits with what Caitlyn says about how no amount of good deeds can undo those wrongs. This line is about accountability.

And there’s a reason why it’s Vi who says this line to Cait. The most obvious is that Caitlyn has wronged her, but it goes deeper than that. In e8, Vi asks Caitlyn who gets to decide who gets a second chance. There are multiple ways to interpret how this idea impacts the narrative. I’ve seen it said that Caitlyn allows Vi to free Jinx because in giving Jinx a second chance she also gives herself one, and that’s an important point for Caitlyn’s character, but I think Vi would’ve found a way to free Jinx no matter what. Cait just made it easy for her. What the narrative shows us is that Vi is the one who gets to decide who gets a second chance by having her decide to give one to both Jinx and Cait. I’ve seen people talk about how’s Vi’s role is that of the witness — to be the constant that observes all the change and corruption that happens around her, and to be burdened with the memory of all that has transpired. And that’s true, but there’s more to it as well. Remember this promotional poster? It has 3 different titles/captions associated with it (that I saw):

1) Horrors I’ve Seen

2) Everyone is Guilty, Vi

3) It’s Too Late to Point the Finger Now

The first one obviously reinforces Vi’s position as the witness. But the second two are about accountability. It always struck me that the second caption brings the collective guilt of our cast to Vi’s attention specifically. Now it makes sense: she is both witness and judge. The character with the “good heart,” the only one who remains largely uncorrupted/unchanged by the end. Who is motivated purely by her desire to protect while the vast majority of the characters around her are twisted by revenge and ambition. It’s absolutely intentional that she is the one who says that line.

I have a truly absurd number of video games that I technically own but have not played yet despite being interested. The list includes:

Dragon Age

Batman

NieR

The Witcher

And even though Gun says it doesn't count because I've played some of it I'm going to say the series I'm interested in but haven't played is Horizon because I have barely made it out of the tutorial and neither one of us has gotten past the point where the map opens up so it's basically unplayed.

A character you particularly like in the game you’re currently playing

This is kind of a tough one because I'm currently playing Tears of the Kingdom but I only started a couple days ago so I'm barely a few hours in (I have three towers total and I'm spending most of my time looking for shrines and running away from everything that can and will kill me). So I'm going to fall back on the prequel since I just finished it a little while ago in preparation for TotK and say Riji, Sidon, and Zelda because gotta love the tiny girlboss and the giant charming fish prince, but also this Zelda's characterization is so good?? The frustration and desperation of being told she has this destiny and this power that she can't access, seeing that unfold through the memories you find across the game by retracing her journey, the pain as she's forced into this expected mold by her family and her people despite the fact that she can't fulfill it...it was so good that Breath of the Wild Zelda has taken the crown of Favorite Zelda, despite the fact that one of them is a pirate.

A game ending that’s really stuck with you

God of War: Ragnarok. Honestly both that and God of War 2018 hit me pretty hard just for how the ending builds on the events of the games, but Ragnarok in particular was just. So good. I didn't expect much when I went into those games but I was absolutely blown away.

(Also honorable mention to Awakening because 500k words of fanfic say something about what that game has done to my brain chemistry.)

If Lazarus Pit side affects appear in your story, could you tag them on AO3 please? Jason mentioned them in chapter 6. They're a fanon concept that makes me really uncomfortable and I'd appreciate a forewarning.

No worries, that's totally reasonable! (And anyone else with similar feels, let me know! I'll try to be conscious about tagging potential tws but let me know if I miss anything. Off the top of my head, the worst of it is "depictions of toxic parenting" with Jack and Maddie and...uh. whatever bullshit the GiW has going on in the background)

There's not really going to be any of the conventional Lazarus Pit fanon in CiM. The only impact Jason's dip in the corpse juice will have is that it makes the boons Danny unwittingly gave him more pronounced on account of him having a more profound connection to the other side, as it were.

And really, the League of Assassins aren't going to feature that strongly in CiM aside from maybe occasional mentions. Including them would just take the story in a direction I don't intend it to, and as such, Lazarus Pits and their impacts aren't going to feature heavily--if at all--in this fic, fanon interpretations or otherwise.
