nothing could’ve prepared me for elton to fuck a pavement stone.

there are those who understand that love & monsters wasn't a bad episode, it was fun and experimental and more for kids than some others and unfortunately placed in the position of being right after impossible planet/satan pit which was big budget high-concept scifi versus the comparatively silly and low-stakes monster-of-this-week (except of course for the mains the stakes are very high and in fact over half of them don't make it out alive), as well as being the first of these kinds of episodes that feature less of the doctor, as well as being based off a kid's competition, but also it's an excellent study of the people caught in the shrapnel of the doctor's life, from LINDA to jackie, and it's a love letter to people who take doctor who (and scifi and nerd stuff) quite seriously and really care and over-analyse it, and it's a wonderful example of some things they could do on low-budget, and it hearkens back to those wobbly-sets days of yore when sometimes a dalek could be defeated by hitting it with a wrench or pushing it really hard, and a bunch of self-important doctor who adult fans back in the day shouldn't have been allowed to cast verdict on it

i hated the whole john is still inside me somewhere bit. like no, he was a misogynistic racist who had no redeeming qualities. you should be ashamed of how you acted.

he treated martha with slight more respect than every other racist person at the school, he deliberately let another student punish someone, he never protected his students from the whole attack, literally nothing about him was something someone would want. the doctor should know better especially if he sees as much of the future as he does. why would he even like joan after he came back to himself. why would he want to subject martha to her?

it feels so obnoxiously out of character for someone like the doctor who has seen so much of time and space that it’s ridiculous that he even entertains the idea of a racist housewife aboard the tardis and he doesn’t immediately turn to protect martha

the way it has clearly never occured to doctor who fans how black fans feel about 'human nature' and 'the family of blood.'

joan agreeing wifh martha a couple of times later in the episode doesn't make up for her racial prejudice. watching martha constantly be reinforced to her face that she will never be good enough is not happy viewing. it's supposed to be a reprieve actually, to show in another world they wouldn't work. but clealry these knuckleheads didn't realise that thay DOESN'T WORK when you have positioned her in a RACIST time period. martha and john don't work because he sees her as his LESSER not because they just don't gel together. and john smith despite being referred to as being "kind" to martha and viewing her as his "favourite maid' doesn't come across at all. he is indifferent and barely acknowledges her and is racially prejudiced too.

the cast is amazing but i am not rooting for john or joan and it's almost funny that the narrative expects me to. literally felt nothing at that 'life he could have had' montage. i was too focused on martha, because dammit someone has to be.

I want more aventio/ratiorine fics with Ratios inner monologue about Aven. Of him being hopelessly in love with Aven like he is. Especially ones that contradict how he speaks out loud or makes him sound like the softie that he is or sounds like the aventurine fans talking about him lol like "god hes beautiful" "hes so out of my league" "i want him" "i hope our children have his eyes" and then hed go "WHY WOULD I THINK THAT '^'!!!"

So I keep thinking about this Doctor/Rose fic that I read a few months ago. This is a long shot, but I’m really missing it right now and haven’t been able to find it anywhere, so here’s what I remember:

Starting with the First Doctor, the TARDIS voice interface has been Rose. The Doctor gets used to it and grows close to her, while his companions are always very confused, but usually warm up to her. I think it eventually turns out that Eleven (? I don’t remember the context but I think it was him) set it up as a perfect hologram AI replica of her, and because the TARDIS is timey-wimey, it echoed back to the beginning.

Anyway if you have any leads on what it might be please let me know!!!

this makes the entire two episodes slightly better if only he didn’t invite joan of racism to join them in the tardis and never actually set the record straight oh how he treated martha and apologize

doctor who, 'human nature and the family of blood' but from the angle that the doctor thought a better idea than confronting the family was to invent a man just to kill him at 3 months old, the lifespan of a mayfly.

the tenth doctor is truly unhinged you guys just don't understand. he said i will kill this man, he's not real he is just a mayfly, using technology that not only made john smith believe he was real but also have full blown menty b because he thought he was real and wanted to live but was told he was just fanfiction and thus needed to off himself to finally click out of ao3.

Misconceptions:

You know it occurs to me that in today's world Boris Karloff would as a quarter Indian biracial actor probably be called woke casting? Not that this is a widely known fact. But in regards to him playing such roles as Jekyll and Hyde, Mycroft Holmes and nearly Cagliostro and Bluebeard. Don't believe me? Look at the reaction to actor Rupert Laight as Isaac Newton in Dr Who. Even in some more left-wing circles. It's coming to something when an ethnic actor gets less grief for such casting in the early twentieth century than one in the modern age?

I've also seen him wrongly described as a white actor doing yellow face as Fu Manchu. Not that such portrayals were ever forgivable of course. But another example of the fact that people are quite ignorant of racially mixed actors having had a presence in the history of media. Just look up the name Acquanetta as another example.
