TIME TRAVELER: E192. SEARCHING FOR THE CRANES 1/2

"Bjorn made himself comfortable as Dylan continued to read the pages of the newly unlocked document. "So, future boy's parents are alive", he stated. "Apparently yes, their names are Douglas Crane and Sylvie Girard. He's currently 48 years old, she's 45; he's a High Tech Engineer, she's a Doctor in Science and Medicine. They met and got married in Oasis Landing. Here's a picture of the two of them, they were much younger then".

"It says here that they were 'both distinguished members of the Oasis Landing Council' until they had to flee in 2035, the same year of the photo". "Had to flee? For what reason?". "It doesn't specify it here but check this out: Sylvie Girard. Age: 26. DNA, 100% human; Douglas Crane. Age: 29. DNA: 60% human, 40% alien. That explains Robin's DNA, he got it from his father!" "Douglas is alien?" Bjorn asked, approaching to get a better look. "Well, he looks quite human to me". "Yep, so does Robin".

"Look, here's a picture of Rob as a kid, and with his real hair color; he gets that from his father too, I guess. The photo is also from 2035". "Any info about him?" "Not much. Name: Robin Crane. Born: 2032. Age: 3. Current location: Oasis Landing. DNA: Unknown…?" "Well, I'm sure they knew, but whoever wrote this info didn't want to disclose it".

"Who wrote this, anyway?" Bjorn asked. "No idea. But from what I can see, Crane is indeed Robin's last name". "Wasn't it supposed to be?" "Robin told Juliette that 'Crane' was the name of the robot that took care of him when he was a baby, an alias he had been registered with at the Community Center". "Registered? By whom?"

"Emit Relevart, a kind of time-keeper, he took Robin into his care and raised him as if he was his own child; later he was his mentor at the Academy where Robin became a Time Traveler."

Since I recently redid my meet photos for all my girls, I thought it’d be fun to do a post with some fast facts about my original characters. Look under the cut to learn more about them!

Jennifer:

Favorite season is autumn

Plays with her mother’s Miss America Barbie doll

Loses track of time easily and will stay up very late working on her knitting projects or watching TV

Katherine:

Has sensory processing disorder and is especially sensitive to loud sounds

Favorite holiday is Halloween

Puts glitter stickers on everything she owns

Evelin:

Sets up a hummingbird feeder outside her bedroom window every summer

Got into making amateur radios as a fun way of communicating with her friends during the Covid pandemic

For this week’s Reading the Hermetica discussion, we’ll read and discuss the sixth tractate of the sixth codex of the Nag Hammadi Codices (NHC VI,6), a text known as the “Discourse on the Eighth and Ninth” (D89).  Because of the length of this discussion, we’ll break out this discussion over two weeks, with this week focusing on introducing the text as well as the theory, theology, and philosophy…

Kathy’s first trip into the wasteland lasted several hours and she was poorly armed with a weak, frequently useless weapon and no stimpaks. She returned with goodies in hand that were dispersed amongst the people of the vault, and when she was sent out again she was armed with a handful of stimpaks, a cattle dog and a better weapon.

We became apprehensive when less than three hours later she was not answering radio calls.

We were uncertain as to her fate. Was she trapped? Was she busy nuking mutants across the wasteland? We’ve grown so quickly to expect so much of her.

You can imagine our surprise when the cattle dog returned with gear in tow and no Kathy. We are uncertain if her quick demise was a fluke, or her extended survival in her first trek rendered her overconfident and careless. Her loss is a massive blow to the vault’s tentative survival, and the effects can be felt.

Emma Crawford and Mark Ford had a son, Benjamin, however with the vault’s growing needs has Benjamin working in the power room with his parents.

Benjamin has become quite smitten with one of the ladies in the Diner now that he is grown- a woman named Helen Cox. They are presently expecting their first child.

Mark and Emma still appear rather fond of each other, and given we need more members of the vault this attachment is encouraged. We just wish that Mark would hurry things up, and not take so long to seduce Emma that 3 different raider attacks occur before she becomes pregnant. Emma is clearly putting forth the effort to make things happen.

Dr Li is a recent addition to the vault who has been instrumental to the survival of the whole. While her lab is at the bottom of the vault, she is experienced enough with wasteland life that she does not hesitate to attack raiders who invade the vault. She has saved the other dwellers countless times over, either actively by preventing their violent deaths, or her tireless work in the medbay to heal their injuries.

She is assisted by one Douglas Sanders, whose special stats dont make him of any particular use to Dr Li, however at the moment beggars cannot be choosers.

Emma successfully delivers a little girl- a dire addition needed to the vault. Weve done the numbers and of the 17 current members, only 4 are women- with Madison, that number will grow to 5 as she ages. A 12:5 ratio is not ideal for the continued growth of the vault, but the numbers we have are the numbers we work with. Dr Li’s work is too instrumental to risk her becoming unable to engage in enemy contact, so at this time having her become pregnant is not an ideal situation. Emma and Helen are the only dwellers to have children, although we are awaiting Helen’s first arrival. It is uncertain at this time if Tiffany has her eye on anyone.

Madison Ford appears to have a wander’s spirit, and it is our hope as she ages that she will be successful out in the wasteland where Kathy failed. Now that Dr Li is here to supervise vault endeavors, we will keep closer tabs on her when the time comes to send her out.
