“okay, dont be mad” you cautioned your boyfriend and his brother as you walked into your shared apartment. 

“what did you do?” jack called out as you stepped into the living room. it seemed liked both brothers were in their own rooms. 

before you could reply to jack, the puppy in your arm started barking. you quickly tried to shush it to delay the inevitable, but it was too late. Both boys practically bolted out of their rooms at the sound.

“YOU GOT A DOG?” jack shouted, and luke stood by his bedroom door stunned.

“y/n…” your boyfriend trailed off, really unsure of what to say. he had good reason of course, you didn’t exactly ask if you could get a puppy but the opportunity just presented itself to you.

“i know, i know! but-but hear me out!” you started to defend yourself as jack came over to you, taking the small dog out of your hands so he could cuddle with them. “i was doing some shopping and there was this pet rescue place, and they didn’t have the space to take in a new dog… and i overheard all of this and so i went to see the puppy and…” you trailed off sheepishly, hoping that your boyfriend and his brother wouldnt be too upset at you. “he’s ours now?” you said, forcing a smile and shrugging your shoulders. 

“you know what! i like him!” jack smiled, dropping to his knees and putting the puppy on the floor so he could play with the little dog. 

“yeah but who’s going to take care of it?” luke piped up, always the one to be rational and think things through.

“i will! plus, when you start playing all the time next season i’ll just be here alone so the puppy can keep me company!” you explained, and you could see luke warming up to the idea of having a dog. 

“yeah you're so cute! you're so cute!!” jack cooed at the dog as he started ruffling its fur. 

“okay, yeah its pretty cute” luke finally admitted, crouching on the floor next to jack so he could also play with the puppy.

now that you were no longer on thin ice  you joked, “luke! don’t call our baby an it!” to which he playfully rolled his eyes.

“I’m gonna call mom right now and tell her i’m an uncle” jack laughed, fishing his phone out of his pants pocket. 

you quickly grabbed his phone from his hand and hid it behind your back. there was absolutely no way you were going to let jack make that call. it was hard enough to get your parents to both agree that you could move in together. if jack even joked about you being pregnant… you didn’t want to think about it. 

after getting the dog settled into the apartment, you, your boyfriend, and jack all went out to the nearest pet store to stock up on all of the supplies you’d need.

I feel like similar to parents keeping baby teeth, Thragg would keep things like, first weapon you ever trained with, memorial photo of your first spar with another child that you won, your first flightsuit, a toddlers toy that was crushed on accident because you suddenly got your powers and had far too much strength than you knew what to do with. And Nolan, if he's raising you on Earth with Debbie, he's at all your school functions, whether it's dancing or sports, and if you aren't in those things, he encourages you HEAVILY (it totally isn't. Training or anything or making sure you're staying fit and active for anything in the future hahaha). He's taking photos and cheering in the crowds. He wants your art in his office. He wants to play games with you once you get your powers. He buys a case for any medals and trophies to proudly display.

Also like do you have any idea how much of an actual phenomenon it is, I've seen videos of it, where dads basically have infinitely more sympathy for their new daughters when they already have sons. I distinctly remember a video where a man was holding his second-born, his first daughter, and he was like weeping because he was feeling intense empathy for his infant daughter because she was crying and looking at him as he held her, and the wife was filming and it was captioned "he never did this with our son" and like. LMAO, THAT'S NOLAN WITH YOU WHEN YOU CRY. THAT'S THRAGG SUDDENLY GIVING A FUCK ABOUT ONLY YOU SPECIFICALLY AFTER LIKE TONS OF KIDS.

Daughter Reader would definitely be their spoiled little princess but you're also their spoiled little princess under very specific terms of CONTAINMENT AND SURVEILLANCE. You've got curfews, they need to know who your friends are, what families do they come from, what do their parents do. They'll treat you like a princess but they'll also socially isolate you from others and. Basically control your life. And if you ever try and pull away from Dear Old Dad, well. Viltrumites can have some pretty extreme reactions. Will Nolan have to disfigure that boy you won't stop talking to? Will Thragg have to build a pretty little cell so that his adult daughter doesn't sneak out to drink and fuck unknown men? That's up to how much of an obedient faithful daughter you want to be. Don't make them do something only you will regret ❤️

Of course, you start to panic, seeing the liquid spread all over the clean floor. You start apologizing profusely when they come to check on you after hearing a noise. 

“I-I’m sorries” you cry over and over again, beginning to shake, knowing you’ve done something bad–made a mess. 

“Awh no, Angel, hey-” Steve picks you up, noticing you’re standing where the liquid meets your covered toes. “It’s okay baby, don’t cry. It was just an accident.” He sets you on the counter as Bucky cleans your mess. You keep apologizing and crying. Steve and Bucky both reassure ‘it’s fine angel’, ‘don’t worry about it doll’.

After it’s all cleaned up, Steve hands you a new filled-up sippy while Bucky changes your damp socks, knowing they must not feel comfortable or help your distressed mood.

“How about we get you ready for bed early, huh doll?” he asks.

A simple question. But one that makes your already anxious mind mold into guilt. You didn't want to go to bed--Well, that wasn’t exactly true--You didn’t want to go to your room. Your pink room. It was perfect, in every way–except the color. It made you feel so bad. You knew how much they wanted you to love it. You didn’t want them to think you were bad.

“I’ll even read you two bedtime stories,” Bucky interrupts your thoughts, trying to cheer you up. He picks you up and sets you back down on the clean floor. It only makes you feel worse. You’d love it if he read you a million bedtime stories, but it just felt so hard going in your room. It just didn’t feel like yours.

You don’t answer him. Instead, you just stand there, looking almost petrified. 

“Doll? Hey, what’s wrong?” he asks as you make no indication of wanting to go to your room. Steve bends down, leveling himself closer to you.

“Sweet girl, can you tell dada what’s wrong? You know we're not upset about the sippy, what’s bothering you babygirl?” Steve asks gently. Still, you only cry harder, not wanting to say what you mean. How could you tell them something like that? Wouldn't they just think you’re a bad girl who doesn't want to listen to daddies and go to your room?

“Jus-jus’ don’t wan’ daddies to be mads at me” you sob sorrowfully into your own hands.

“Oh no, angel...we won’t be mad, as long as you're honest about what’s going on in that little head of yours,” he teasingly pets your head. “we could never be mad at you like that.” He encourages you to speak up, taking your little hands into his softly. 

“It-it’s jus-” you try making the words come out, but only more tears fall instead. Steve tugs you closer, hugging you as you weep into his shoulder. Eventually, there’s only one word you’re able to mumble out. Color.

“Color?” He questions gently, trying to confirm what you said, and pulling apart to look at you. You nod your head shamefully, unwilling to look up from the floor. 

“What color baby?”

“Room.” you say quietly. 

“The color of your room? Pink?” He questions. You nod your head, and it takes him a moment before he realizes what you’re trying to communicate. “You don’t like the pink babygirl?” He asks carefully.

You nod your head in confirmation but the admission only makes you feel worse, causing you to cry harder again. 

“I’m sorry,” you say woefully in between sobs. 

“Oh angel, no, no. You don’t need to be sorry about that,” You look up to meet his gaze as he wipes the tears from your wet face.

“Really?” You ask sensitively. 

“Of course not.” Bucky chimes in, reaching down to pick you up. He bounces you up as he places you around his hip. “Why didn’t you just tell us sooner, doll?” you shrug your shoulders, and mumble an ‘I dunno.’

“I’m so sorry we didn’t know before babygirl. That’s daddies job, we should have known. We’re the sorry one's little princess.” Steve reassures, caressing your cheek while still in Bucky’s arms.

You look back to Bucky, wanting to gauge if he was upset. However, he doesn’t look displeased as only concern laces his features as he looks at you. 

“You know, doll, I'm somewhat of a painter myself,” he says lightheartedly, causing a skeptical eyebrow raise from Steve. 

“Oh yeah, that so?” Steve jeers.

“Absolutely,” he defends. “After all, who do you think painted your room and did all that hard work in the first place?” he gestures his head towards Steve “not that guy” he teases, making you giggle, bringing a small smile to your face.

“You-you’re not upset I don’t like it?” you ask, still feeling bad since he did it all for you.

“Of course not Doll. What kind of Daddy would I be if I didn’t know your favorite color?” he explains, “now tell us, what colors do you want instead?” you ponder for a moment, thinking.

“Any color you want, angel. Nothing’s too much for our little girl.” Steve smiles at you.

Goh is a bit of a rulebreaker in that instance, i get that, but if people hate him taking so much screentime for Ash

(heads up the episode where goh goes on vacation and meets tokio again is the 1st episode in the anime history without any scene of Ash in it at ALL which is pretty crazy)

then I'm sure we wouldn't want to see Goh battle e v e r y single pokemon he catches, like his goal is literally to catchem all as well BUT BUT THEN AGAIN, that arguement is pretty weak i guess, and i understand why people would be mad, but I really dont like when they genuinely just hate him excessively 😭😭

was it not me that didn't shut up about this dynamic like ..... almost 2 years ago??? i think it was.

no, but for real. when you read the iliad this dynamic can certainly fly under your radar. menelaus as a whole can get fucking lost in that book lmfao. but if you read it with hyper-menelaus-vision like i do everything in my life - it's shocking how prevelant that dynamic actually is.

menelaus doesn't interact with a lot of people in the iliad. there's aga, ajax, achilles (well, achilles calls him a dogface and menelaus doesnt really respond but yknow). now, him talking to aga makes sense. ajax is addressed when menelaus needs help on the battlefield (to save odysseus and to defend patroclus) he's the muscle menelaus needs in those moments.

but he talks to and works/fights with antilochus. the most. (outside of aga but their dynamic is ofc gonna be different) antilochus isn't. a big deal. really. he's not one of the leaders. one of the OG big guys. but he's with menelaus in maybe like 30 - 50% of his scenes in the iliad? and for a guy that doesn't appear in the iliad a lot to begin with. that's a lot.

with a oral poem like the iliad there will be a lot of repetition for events, even if the characters change. but i'm sure there's an event that's repeated twice - menelaus calling for ajax's help and then summoning antilochus. again. the ajax thing is explainable - he's a main player. he's also beefy as shit. he can help menelaus YET menelaus summons antilochus as well. why him? using ajax twice for defence makes sense. but summoning antilochus both times (instead of changing to another sidecharacter greek) is purposeful. he CHOOSES him. menelaus clearly forms this attachment to antilochus after book 5 when the lad comes to his rescue.

it's also sweet how in the book 5 moment, there is a mirror between hera's concern for menelaus and antilochus'. hera having this maternal angle to her as well implies that this concern is FIERCE. it's protective. and antilochus feels the same.

i also think it's sweet that antilochus is like menelaus' lil right hand man UNTIL patroclus dies. and then menelaus almost. gives antilochus back to achilles. antilochus and menelaus fight side by side until patroclus dies and then antilochus becomes achilles' right hand man. like. menelaus gives him back. knows how good of a companion this boy is. sees achilles' grief and like .... offers antilochus as a balm to help. patroclus' death is menelaus' fault. and menelaus certainly sees it that way. and to help achilles combat this newfound lonliness he offers up .... his only friend in the whole iliad.

LIKE in the funeral games. menelaus is mad that antilochus has broken his trust and their friendship. it was never really about the prize for menelaus (he fucking gives it to antilochus anyway???? like????) he's so upset because antilochus 'played dirty' and breached his trust. THAT'S why menelaus kicks off. and yet he doesn't stay mad for long. he almost cant??? he and antilochus have been through a lot in the short span of time that the iliad takes place. and i've said it before. menelaus is not a proud man, compared to most in greek myth. he will back down. he will admit defeat. and he does it here too. ofc he does?? this is his friend!!! but not before he gets emotional and upset about being betrayed because menelaus just FEELS so much. he is such an emotional and attached character.

EVEN IF IT'S NOT THAT menelaus' anger could be from CONCERN. antilochus has stayed alive for so long and boy is now gonna die cause he cant drive?! menelaus WILL NOT have that. it could be panic or fear. either way. i dont think his outburst comes from a place of malice or 'sore loser' at all.

and like do you gotta make me say it???? antilochus forces menelaus to face his guilt. he LITERALLY SAYS:

NO OTHER ACHAEAN COULD HAVE BROUGHT ME ROUND SO SOON. YOU HAVE SUFFERED MUCH AND LABORED LONG ... ALL FOR MY SAKE.

menelaus yields, yes because antilochus is his friend but antilochus is also SO FREAKIN YOUNG. he's probably spent half of his life (or damn close to it) at troy. for menelaus. and menelaus is not blind to that. antilochus embodies all the young men that came to troy for him that have died for him or at the very least have fought and suffered. menelaus' love and care for antilochus is almost symbolic of his love and care for all these lads who came to troy. antilochus represents the army that menelaus carries on his back and cares about so much. and i think the paternal angle to their relationship almost highlights that. menelaus is compared to a mother directly and his relationship with antilochus emphasises this. and that's why their dynamic so so sweet and important to me. their story begins with antilochus coming to his aid and ends with menelaus thanking him for all he's done. menelaus is not blind to the help of this boy or to the army as a whole.
