Halloweenathon:Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

So I decided to watch a bunch of made for TV movies today and one thats been on my list for a while is this 70's film Dont Be Afraid in the Dark ,partly cause I wanna check out the remake

in this 1973 TV movie Sally (Kim Darby ) opens up a fireplace in her grandmothers house she has inherited,to unleash three tiny creatures.....And they want her

So I often hear this called one of the great horror TV movies.....And while I dont agree,there are problems with it .....I completely see why cause it is legit frightening ,I imagine Gen Xers who saw this young on television were given nightmares .The premise of knowing your in danger and no one beliving is scary ,Kim Darby is an affective lead ,the lil goblins(What they are is never said ,so me and a friend who watched with me took to calling them Goblins ) while the costumes are a bit corny they are really unpleasent in appearence and demeanor and are pretty unsettling creepy monsters and the endingis pure NIGHTMARE FUEL ,its a legit scary ending

So yeah the film is SCARY and if one judge horror films only on that ,then this is a winner.......The thing is when its not scaring me....Its a lil dull .I also REALLY Didnt like the relationship dynamic betweeen Sally and her husband Alex ,I found him very mean and just kind of more of an acusitory dick then I think the filmmakers intended .Like he does not listen to her worries at all and accuses her of trying to sabotage his career

I think there is a great idea at the center of the film and do reccomend but honestly I am now intrigued by the remake more cause this feels like a story that needed a retelling
