Dean Obeidallah at The Dean's Report:
It’s a “coup!” declared hysterical Republicans. Were they talking about Donald Trump’s efforts after the 2020 election to overturn the election for which he’s currently facing criminal charges in both federal court and Fulton County, Ga?! Nope! What Republicans from JD Vance down were calling a “coup” was President Biden dropping out of the 2024 race. (I’m serious!) Arkansas US Senator Tom Cotton wrote on X shortly after the news broke, “Joe Biden succumbed to a coup by Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and Hollywood donors, ignoring millions of Democratic primary votes.” “The coup is complete,” wrote Trump loving Representative Paul Gosar from Arizona. That was followed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who also echoed the claim we witnessed a “coup” with Biden dropping out.
Talk of a coup even made it all the way to the top of the 2024 GOP presidential ticket when—in an interview that aired Monday--Fox News host Jesse Watters asked Trump and his running mate JD Vance, “Is it a coup against Joe Biden?” Vance responded point blank, “Yeah, I think it is.” Trump though—perhaps reflecting on what he did after the 2020 election—was uncharacteristically sheepish, offering Watters only this two word answer: “Sort of.”
Back on planet earth, we know that Biden made the decision to drop out for the same reason politicians have chosen to end their campaigns since time immemorial. As NBC News reported, in reaching his decision, Biden reviewed along with his family and top aides extensive polling data, including how Vice President Kamala Harris would fare in a potential matchup against Trump. It’s true Biden was not happy with the growing calls to drop out after his deeply troubling debate performance three weeks before. However, as NBC News noted At the end of it all, “Biden came grudgingly to accept that he could not sustain his campaign with poll numbers slipping, donors fleeing and party luminaries pushing him to exit.”
That led us to Sunday afternoon when Biden released a letter that informed the nation, “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.” (President Biden is addressing the nation on Wednesday night where we will find out even more of the details.) That’s not a coup. That is what American politics and democracy have long looked like. True, given it was a president dropping out only a little more than a hundred days from the election, it was both jarring and history making. But at the end, Biden made what he believed was the best choice for himself, his family, his party and his country.
[...] Trump attempted a coup in every sense of the word. Despite losing the 2020 election, he attempted to overturn the results to remain in power. That is why the federal indictment against Trump charging him with four felonies states, “Despite having lost, the Defendant [Trump] was determined to remain in power.” To that end as the indictment continues, Trump “pursued unlawful means of discounting legitimate votes and subverting the election results.” Trump’s “criminal scheme”--as the indictment describes--included replacing legally elected electors to the Electoral college with fake ones chosen by his campaign to deliver Trump the victory he didn’t actually win. Trump’s illegal plan also included preventing Congress on Jan 6 from certifying the legitimate votes cast for Joe Biden--despite Trump losing every court battle to invalidate these very votes. Then there was the brutal Jan 6 attack on our Capitol, which FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before Congress was an act of “domestic terrorism.” As the Jan 6 House committee’s final report put it: “The central cause of January 6th was one man, former President Donald Trump, whom many others followed,” adding, “None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him.”
Dean Obeidallah debunks the right-wing bad faith “coup” attacks against Joe Biden, and rightly points out that replacing Biden with Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee (before the nomination was formalized) is NOT a coup, but the Capitol Insurrection on January 6th, 2021 and Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results were most definitely one.

Now that Donald Trump has been reelected as president of the United States, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is ready to get to work locking up Bill Gates, Tony Fauci, and every other Big Pharma executive who conspired with the media to censor the ugly truth about Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) "vaccines."
Each of these Big Pharma hacks assumed that Kamala Harris would win and sweep the whole thing under the rug. Now that Trump is about to take office a second time, many of them are running for cover.
Kennedy helped unearth evidence showing that COVID injections are bioweapons rather than honest medicine. Their purpose, among other things, was to sicken the general public while reducing the population and laying the groundwork for global medical fascism.
Gates pumped billions of dollars into the production of the Operation Warp Speed jabs, which Congress and the Trump administration paved the way for with the PREP Act. Since Gates also recently funded $50 million to the Kamala campaign, Kennedy wants him to pay.
"[Bill Gates] has been indicted in the Netherlands for lying to the public about the COVID-19 vaccine," Kennedy said last month. "And he's going to have to go to trial."
"You think that he wants to go to trial here in the United States of America? [Do] you think that's one of the reasons he chose to give $50 million to Kamala Harris?"

Trump Has 10 Days To Surrender To GA Authorities
Rudy Giuliani, who pioneered the use of RICO when he was a US attorney, indicted on RICO charges
And it’s just the cherry on top that the DA filing the charges, Fani Willis, is a Black woman
“Former President Donald Trump has until Friday, Aug. 25 to voluntarily surrender to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia, where he was indicted Monday, his fourth criminal indictment in five months.
The charges against the 2024 GOP front-runner and more than a dozen others relate to their alleged efforts to fraudulently reverse Trump's 2020 election loss to Joe Biden in Georgia.”

ATLANTA — The purported names and addresses of members of the grand jury that indicted Donald Trump and 18 of his co-defendants on state racketeering charges this week have been posted on a fringe website that often features violent rhetoric, NBC News has learned.
NBC News is choosing not to name the website featuring the addresses to avoid further spreading the information.
The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment. District Attorney Fani Willis faced racist threats ahead of the return of the indictment, and additional security measures were put in place, with some employees being allowed to work from home.
The grand jurors' purported addresses were spotted by Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan research group founded by Daniel J. Jones, a former FBI investigator and staffer for the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee.
“It’s becoming all too commonplace to see everyday citizens performing necessary functions for our democracy being targeted with violent threats by Trump-supporting extremists," Jones said. "The lack of political leadership on the right to denounce these threats — which serve to inspire real-world political violence — is shameful.”
Advance Democracy also noted that users were posting the names and images of people believed to have been grand jurors on other social media sites. The posts asserted that the jurors had posted on social media in support of Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., former President Barack Obama and the Black Lives Matter movement.
The indictment issued Monday lists the names of the grand jury members but not their addresses or other personal information.
Tuesday — after Trump posted on his social media website that authorities were going "after those that fought to find the RIGGERS!" — Advance Democracy said Trump supporters were "using the term ‘rigger’ in lieu of a racial slur" in posts.
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office, which is handling the surrender of Trump and his co-defendants over the next 10 days, declined to comment.
“We are not commenting on any issues related to grand jury security," said Natalie Ammons, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The grand jurors have come under attack in the days since Trump's indictment, the fourth criminal indictment brought against the twice-impeached former president.
“These jurors have signed their death warrant by falsely indicting President Trump," a post on a pro-Trump forum read in response to a post including the names of jurors, which was viewed by NBC News.

On a personal note, these same STALINIST Tactics were used on my (southern) family members during Jim Crow: "Show me the man & I'll show you his crime." Freedom loving people worldwide should be disgusted. If this is happening to an American President, just imagine what is happening to Americans who lack media attention & wise counsel.
Wouldn't it be poetic justice if Trump's political persecution in DC by Deranged John "Jack" Luman Smith & Soros GA DA proves to the American people that the 2020 election was in fact a FRAUD!

Former President Donald J. Trump and 18 others, including Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mark Meadows, face conspiracy charges related to attempts to overturn the state’s results and subvert the will of voters
Former President Donald J. Trump and 18 others, including some of his former lawyers and top aides, have been indicted by an Atlanta grand jury in a sweeping racketeering case focused on Mr. Trump’s efforts to reverse the results of the 2020 election in Georgia. The indictment — handed up after a single, extra-long day of testimony — is an unprecedented challenge of presidential misconduct by a local prosecutor. It brings charges against some of his most prominent advisers, including Rudolph W. Giuliani, his former personal lawyer, and Mark Meadows, who served as White House chief of staff at the time of the election. [...] The investigation was led by Fani T. Willis, the Fulton County district attorney. It focused on five actions taken by Mr. Trump or his allies in the weeks after Election Day, when Joseph R. Biden Jr. narrowly won Georgia. Those actions include phone calls that Mr. Trump made to pressure state officials to overturn the result, as well as harassment of local election workers by Trump supporters, false claims of ballot fraud, a plan by Trump allies to create a slate of bogus electors and a data breach at an elections office in rural Coffee County, Ga. [...] Kenneth Chesebro and John Eastman, architects of the plan to use fake Trump electors to circumvent the popular vote in a number of swing states, were among a number of lawyers who advised Mr. Trump who were indicted. So was Mike Roman, a former Trump campaign aide who helped coordinate the elector scheme. Jeffrey Clark, a former senior official in the Department of Justice who embraced false claims about the election and tried to embroil the department in challenging the Georgia vote, was also indicted. Other lawyers who aided Mr. Trump’s efforts who were indicted include Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis. A number of Georgia Republicans were also indicted, including David Shafer, the former head of the state party, and Shawn Still, a state senator. Cathy Latham, a party leader in a rural county who served as one of the bogus Trump electors, was also indicted. All 19 defendants are being charged under Georgia’s racketeering statute, and each of them has at least one additional charge. Racketeering laws are often used to prosecute people involved in patterns of illegal activity, and can be useful in targeting both foot soldiers and leaders in a corrupt organization.

New Filing Accuses Fani Willis of Misrepresenting the Date of her Affair with Nathan Wade
There was a notable filing in the ongoing scandal in Georgia over the intimate relationship between Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis and her subordinate special prosecutor Nathan J. Wade. Defense lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, claims to have an affidavit that Willis lied about when the relationship began — a critical fact in her defense against ethical allegations.
Willis and Wade insisted that the relationship had not begun until 2022, after she hired him (in November 2021) to serve as special counsel to prosecute former president Donald Trump.
Ms. Merchant identifies the witness as Terrance Bradley, who served previously as Wade’s divorce lawyer and worked in his law firm. That itself is quite irregular given the strong protections for attorney-client privilege. However, Merchant told the court that “Bradley has non-privileged, personal knowledge that the romantic relationship between Wade and Willis began prior to Willis being sworn as the district attorney for Fulton County, Georgia in 2021.”
In this sworn affidavit filed with the court, Wade states “[i]n 2022, District Attorney Willis and I developed a personal relationship in addition to our professional association and friendship.”
As a sworn statement filed with the court, a materially false statement would pose a very serious violation for both lawyers. This was the key determinative element cited by both Willis and Wade to show that there was no ethical breach in the hiring of Wade.
We obviously need to hear from Willis and Wade — and learn more of the details. The key date is November 2021 in terms of the hiring of Wade. There is also the question of how his information was “non-privileged, personal knowledge.” If the affiant is suggesting that there were public displays or confirmation of this relationship, there could be other witnesses who could be called to give accounts.
The filing also suggests that there may have been other trips taken by the lawyers.
Merchant states “[s]ince Willis and Wade were not forthright about their relationship in the first instance, there is no reason to believe they are telling the truth now,”
Notably, the defendants in the Georgia case include those charged with making false statements and filing false documents. If Willis or Wade has now done so, the political and legal impact on the case would be devastating. Once again, the only thing more troubling than the relationship itself has been the response of Willis and Wade to the scandal. They have consistently put their own interests before that of the case and the office in my view.

ATLANTA, GA — Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by Fulton County for looking too stunning and handsome in his mugshot photo.
"No man is allowed to look that attractive and fierce," said District Attorney Fani Willis. "President Trump must be held accountable for his overpowering sexiness and raw animal magnetism."
According to sources at the Fulton County DA Office, President Trump will be charged with a range of crimes, including having too perfect of a bone structure. "Thousands of women became pregnant the moment the photo was released," said Ms. Willis. "It's an outrage. No man, no matter how beautifully made, is above the law."
Mr. Trump's photo has already spread around the globe at a record pace, with heterosexual women everywhere suddenly becoming fans of the former President. "He finally earned the women's vote," said Republican strategist Dan Cooper. "The fundraising off of this will be incredible. I hear Mike Lindell already has pillowcases with the mugshot ready to go. Someone named Marjorie already ordered ten thousand of them."
At publishing time, Mr. Trump had been indicted yet again for being too debonaire when talking to the jail staff.

US sanctions on bank in Hungary mark new low in relations
For the first time since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the US has sanctioned a Hungary-based bank. Prime Minister Orban's government seems unimpressed but has announced it will withdraw its staff from the institution.
Anyone who looks at Hungary's pro-government media outlets these days could get the impression there is no war raging in eastern Europe. Russia's invasion of Ukraine is mainly referred to as the "Ukrainian crisis," with the US portrayed as the aggressor. Pro-government media outlets suggest the US is attacking Hungary's sovereignty and "pulling it into a war."
Not even in the final years of Hungary's socialist dictatorship did anti-Americanism reach such shrill extremes. This recent backlash was sparked by an anti-Russian sanctions package announced by the US on April 12 that also affects Hungary. The sanctions include measures that impact the Russian-Hungarian International Investment Bank (IIB) and its management and IIB deputy head Imre Laszloczki, a Hungarian national.
This is not a first. The US has sanctioned politicians and business figures from allied countries before, including entities in Albania and Bulgaria. Hungarian citizens have also been sanctioned, though their identities have not been made public. But this time, for the first time since the start of Russia's war on Ukraine, an entity based in Hungary— a NATO ally and EU member — is officially being sanctioned. The IIB is not just any bank, but one of which Hungary owned around 25% of the shares although it has majority Russian ownership.
On Thursday, however, Hungary's Economic Ministry announced it would withdraw from the IIB.
The operations of the bank, which was once a development bank for the communist eastern bloc, no longer had any relevance to Hungary, the Ministry for Economic Development said in Budapest. Hungary was for this reason withdrawing its staff.
The operation of the Russian-controlled International Investment Bank has "become impossible" after US sanctions so Hungary has quit the bank, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday.
IIB: Hungary's 'spy bank'
In Hungary, the IIB is also known as the "spy bank," as its leadership is comprised of individuals liked to or associated with Russia's FSB intelligence service. IIB head Nikolay Kosov comes from a family of KGB officers. The bank, whose headquarters were moved from Moscow to Budapest in 2019, plays an important role in Russo-Hungarian relations. IIB deputy head Laszloczki manages Hungarian economic policy in Russia and the Central Asian republics.
These sanctions against the Hungary-based bank mark a new low point in the already strained and now openly hostile relations between Hungary and the US. Orban has never concealed his dislike for the US Democrats and US President Joe Biden and remains a friend and fan of Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump. Orban was the first EU leader to congratulate Trump on his election victory in 2017. And more recently, when Trump faced criminal indictment for hush money, Orban tweeted, "Keep on fighting, Mr. President! We are with you, @realDonaldTrump!"
Orban's close ties to Russia
US government representatives have repeatedly criticized the state of Hungary's democracy and rule of law, denounced corruption among Orban's entourage and expressed concern over Hungary's close ties to Russia.
Hungary is the only EU country that still maintains friendly relations with Russia today. It has only half-heartedly condemned Russia's war against Ukraine. On Tuesday, Hungary's foreign minister, Peter Szijjarto, traveled to Moscow for talks on Russian gas supplies and on Russian investments in the Hungarian nuclear industry. On the same day, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik came to Budapest for talks.
Homophobic abuse
Hungary has so far supported the EU's sanctions on Russia, which can only be enacted if all 27 members of the bloc agree to them. For this, Moscow recently designated it an "unfriendly country." However, Orban has repeatedly spoken out in favor of ending the sanctions against Russia. The Hungarian leader has also made numerous controversial statements, for instance claiming the war in Ukraine would not have erupted if Trump were still US president. Orban indirectly blames the Biden administration and the "pro-war" EU for Russia's full-scale invasion and ongoing war in Ukraine.
David Pressman, the US ambassador to Budapest, is openly homosexual, making him an ideal target for Hungary's homophobic government. Upon taking office in the Hungarian capital, Pressman was subjected to savage abuse by pro-government activists and the media. This has further strained US-Hungarian relations.
Anti-American media
Hungary's government, in turn, has long accused Pressman of supporting opposition parties and seeking to overthrow Orban. One of the reasons is that the US Embassy currently supports a pro-Ukrainian poster campaign in Hungary that reads: "Russians go home" — a campaign slogan once used by Orban's Fidesz party during the fall of communism.
Pressman, for his part, is friendly in tone but critical in his assessment of the Orban regime. Sometimes he can't resist sarcastic digs: Last fall, for example, the Budapest embassy posted an online quiz with bizarre anti-American and pro-Russian statements from Hungarian politicians and journalists.
After Pressman announced US sanctions against the IIB late Wednesday afternoon, representatives of Hungary's governing Fidesz party said Hungary would defend its sovereignty and not change course.
Hungarian pro-government media outlets, meanwhile, continued spewing anti-American vitriol. The widely read tabloid portal Origo ran the headline: "The USA has been exposed again: it betrays all its allies and stabs them in the back."
Orban on Friday told state radio the United States was an important ally but there was a difference of views over the war in Ukraine, and the US had "not given up on its plan to squeeze everyone into a war alliance," a step he said Hungary would resist.

Igor Bobic at HuffPost:
MILWAUKEE ― After the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life over the weekend, Republicans and Democrats alike called on the country to turn down the political rhetoric and unite as Americans. It didn’t last long. On Monday morning, Trump railed against his criminal indictments, called the Jan. 6 insurrection a “hoax,” and accused Democrats of orchestrating all his legal troubles in a post on his social media site, Truth Social.
[...] And although speakers at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee were more subdued than usual during the evening prime-time hours, calling for unity after the shooting, there were still notable attacks on Democrats and their policies. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), for example, opened the slate of GOP speeches by attacking the “radical far-left agenda,” which he defined as a “fringe … that includes biological males competing against girls and the sexualization and indoctrination of our children.” He went on to call Democratic policies “a clear and present danger to our institutions, our values and our people,” drawing cheers from the audience. [...] “The current president is not capable of turning things around,” Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) said on Monday. “His weakness is costing us our opportunity, our prosperity, our safety. Each diminshed. All in decline. Just like the man in the Oval Office.”
Attendees at the convention also saw a video montage displayed on TV screens showing Biden walking up the steps of Air Force One, the presidential plane, with a narrator concluding, “He can’t even walk up steps or put on his coat.” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who posted on social media that “Democrats wanted this to happen” in regard to the Trump rally shooting by a 20-year-old registered Republican whose motive is not yet known, similarly gave a more toned-down speech at the GOP convention. But she, too, couldn’t hold entirely back, railing against “globalists,” attacking transgender people and immigrants, and decrying U.S. support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. Republicans also gave North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson a speaking slot at their convention, an eyebrow-raising decision given his long list of incendiary comments in recent years, including calling for making abortion illegal “for any reason,” mocking school shooting survivors, calling LGBTQ people “filth,” and appearing to endorse political violence in a speech last month.
The bid for unity at the RNC in the wake of the assassination attempt against Donald Trump went out the door the first night on the floor, as several speakers-- most notably Ron Johnson and MTG-- used their speeches to push for divisive culture war issues such as mocking President Biden’s cognitive decline and bashing trans people and Ukrainian aid.
