Types of obnoxious batfam stans
Written by an obnoxious batfam stan
Not really a rant but something I've noticed over the years interacting in different spaces and I've decided to make your problem now.
Please note that I'm not saying there's any "right" way to be a fan because we all suck by virtue of being comic nerds, but there are certain kinds of batfamily fans that stick out to be in particular.
Anywho, here are 12 kinds of annoying batfam stans that you've probably run into and you better get a laugh out of it *points gun to your head*.
1) The Newbies Who Never Heard of Google
There's no shame in being new to something. It's a phase that we're all guaranteed to go through, whether we're 11 or 101. However, in this day and age, so many things can be easily googled that you don't need to shout every question you have into the VVorld VVide VVoid. If you need comic recs or a reading list, google it. If you wanna know a character's origin story, google it. If you need to know the color of Batman's underpants in a particular issue in 1965... well that's probably too specific for Google but Reddit will definitely have an answer.
2) The Middle School Authors
Before the 13-year-olds get up in my notes, I'm not saying everyone that age writes like this. Middle school is a state of mind. These fanfic writers usually stand out in a few ways.
They're oftentimes first-person POV or reader-insert. Give Y/N a break, she's tired.
The grammar is stunningly atrocious. I get if you're inexperienced or if you're writing in a second language, but we are in the prime era of autocorrect. If you need help, it's right there. Also, fuck c*nsoring b*d w*rds and fuck "unalive."
The characters do things that are out-of-character because the author is projecting their own personality. Bruce Wayne is a lot of things but he does not listen to the fucking Mountain Goats.
There's a lack of experience or research when it comes to certain topics. That's not how physics works. He can't walk that injury off. And that's definitely NOT how you do the horizontal hokey pokey.
3) The Neckbeards
Unfortunately, these basement-dwelling mouth-breathers tainted the image of what a comic fan is, though that's been changing recently. Still, we've all seen them. They gatekeep via pop quizzes, 'cause obviously you're not a real fan unless you know what page 10 of Batman #138 smells like. They give unsolicited commentary on people's cosplays, nitpicking the guys and being gross toward women. And heaven forbid the comics add a little diversity.
4) The Moviegoers
Nothing inherently wrong with getting into the fandom via the movies, nor is there anything wrong with sticking to that. I just feel like we're two different species of Galapagos finches, you know?
5) The Christopher Nolans
Separate from casual fans of the Nolan movies. I'm calling them the Christopher Nolans because these people have a tendency to reach for the grimdarkest thing possible. It's like they cannot fathom Batman having any other emotions besides punching and gargoyle brooding.
6) The Canon Purists
Wanna share a fun headcanon? NO, because Stephanie Brown never used cherry lip balm in the comics so therefore that must be the absolute truth. These people are a stickler for comic accuracy to the point where it's like... why bother interacting with the fandom in the first place? The worst part is when they're adamant on following a single continuity and refuse to consider anything else. This is comics we're talking about. Everything either has been or will be canon at some point.
7) The Fanon Worshippers
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the people who base their entire perception of the characters on something either they pulled out of their ass or that their mutual with 16 followers came up with, despite evidence directly contradicting it. I love WFA, but I feel like that's partially responsible for further perpetuating certain popular myths. Also, these fans tend to focus solely on the batfam/their ships. It's one thing to have some people in the foreground vs. background, but put some respect to Bart Allen's name you goddamn cheesecakes.
8) The Golden Age Dads
These guys aren't really obnoxious. I actually find it kind of cute how they think Jason Todd is still dead.
9) The Chronically Online
I have a rule of thumb when it comes to discourse: if it's not something I'd hear about at a bar, it's not worth my mental energy. Some people haven't gotten the memo, though.
These are either the well-intentioned but misinformed teenagers or grown-ass adults beefing with children because they don't have a life. They have takes that are oversimplified, rage-inducing, TikTok algorithm attention-grabbers that no one cares about in real life.
Don't get me wrong, we've got a bunch of issues in comics and fandom that are worth discussing. However, there comes a point where you're splitting hairs and need to go the fuck outside. I'm not gonna link the post 'cause I don't wanna call them and their 7 notes out, but the other week I saw someone saying Stephcass was a racist ship because something something colonialism parallel. You gotta be Elastigirl to have that kind of reach.
10) The Corporate Simps
I love comics. I appreciate the writers and artists. However, you will find my carcass in a ditch before you catch me licking the boots of DC/Warner Bros. Basically, these fans, fewer as they are, can't seem to fathom that their favorite franchise can (and does) put out some steaming motherfucking garbage.
11) The Hot Cosplayers
Not actually annoyed, I'm just a little jealous. Stop being hotter than me, please and thank you.
12) The One With A Punchline For Everything

IDK if you've watched the x-men movies- og or first-class stuff- but if you have I'm curious as to your opinion on Charles Xavier/Professor X. Specifically: how would he get on with Edward? What about Carlisle? How woul Magneto/Erik get on with them?
I've seen I think all three of the OG X-Men live action films but it's so long ago I only remember 3 very well (and it was... very not good). I saw X-Men First Class and I think a few of the other reboot X-Mens that were also... not good.
But honestly? Based on those I feel like I just don't have enough to get a grasp of Professor X and Magneto. It doesn't help that this is one of those domains where the comics are very old and people are really into them, so if I just do "well, based on the film" I'm told "ACTUALLY THEY'RE SUPER DIFFERENT IN THE COMICS AND HOW DARE YOU".
But I'll take my best guess.
Professor X and Edward
Charles deals with overemotional and overly powerful teens who cause problems all the fucking time. He's dealt with ones who have caused a lot of damage, sometimes intentionally and sometimes not, so I feel like to Charles Edward is another kid in need of help. Does he need help? Absolutely, this boy is clearly traumatized by being turned into a vampire/the nature of his existence and his temptation for blood among other things. However, he's not unique and certainly not more terrifying than dealing with a preteen Jean Gray.
I actually think Edward would really like Charles. Yes, it's annoying he's more powerful than Edward (being basically able to do what Aro does, but from a distance, and able to control people's thoughts) but he's the kind of guy Edward would really like. He has all the power in the world but rarely if ever chooses to use it and when he does it's with a lot of justification to himself of why he has to erase these memories or make someone do this thing, usually with the safety of others in mind. He's well-spoken, earnest, has dedicated his life to helping gifted children the world has shunned and is able to offer Edward advice.
For all Edward would argue he's older than Charles, I do think Charles could glide into that mentor-like position (especially since he has, canonically, for older characters such as Logan).
Charles in turn I imagine would be a good mentor for Edward who would both a) actually understand what he's thinking and going through because of the telepathy and b) being a voice of sanity Edward can choose to confide in.
Professor X and Carlisle
I imagine Charles... understands why Carlisle has turned these people, that Carlisle meant well, and that Carlisle was driven by a profound loneliness when he did so. He doesn't approve and Carlisle should absolutely stop, these people did not consent to become vampires and not all of them are happy being so, but he gets that Carlisle is ultimately human (humanoid) and can be expected to make mistakes/be driven by emotion.
Beyond that, I imagine the pair would get on great as, again, Charles is a person that actually reads your mind at the bone deep level and so you actually have to confront shit. And we know Carlisle was cool enough with Aro to stay in Volterra for twenty years, so he's fine with the general mind reading and I think would get on fairly well.
Unless Charles is in his bitchy heroin addicted phase he was in for that one movie.
Edward and Magneto
Nope.
See, the trouble is Edward gets Magneto's philosophy a little too much.
It's not the same at all, but Carlisle's philosophy is very in Professor X's line of thought: yes, even though there are bad humans who do bad, that does not justify our eating them or make us 'good' by doing so.
This is not entirely dissimilar to Charles's: yes, the humans often treat mutants and anyone with the label 'other', like complete dogshit, not limited to horrific murder, but that does not mean that we can target the general population of humans out of self-defense or kill them all and leave only 'pure' mutants.
Edward would see far too much of himself in Magneto's: we are absolutely justified in kicking the humans out of power/dismantling their entire system because they've done a shit job of everything for thousands of years and are always treating mutants and 'other' as shit.
Magneto's not eating humans, and Magneto often pumps the breaks when things get too spicy in X-Men land (from what I've seen he's never full "KILL THEM ALL" and usually ends up having to side with the X-Men with a pouty face when the other villain goes too far), and it's not really equivalent to Edward's self-justification for giving into desire but it'd be close enough that Edward would hate it because he hates what he himself did.
As for Magneto, he sees Edward as another overpowered self-righteous and seriously misled teen. Boy, he's seen a lot of those.
Magneto and Carlisle
It's like Charles the vampire but worse because he's turning these stupid kids into crystal death machines and then telling them not to give into natural instinct, starve themselves like monks, when they were by design made to feed off human blood.
"JUST EAT, YOU DUMB PEOPLE" I imagine Magneto screams at them in despair. The humans can handle it. Nobody's winning an award for these people nobly starving themselves and in Erik's humble opinion there's a lot of people who should kick the bucket.
It'd be stupid if Carlisle was doing it only to himself, but it's downright horrible that he's bringing these kids into it, and especially that none of them had any say in it.
Erik thinks this guy is a piece of shit.

Watching anything, not just a movie, but a tv show, an anime, a short, a music video, literally anything, is an experience.
Each one unique and requiring at least a whole five minutes of commentary.
He's the kind of guy who feels like his life changed completely after viewing a certain product. He will gen into it so much, from the possible lore or original material, the music, the character takes and analysis from twitter users. He's probably one of them
It's so funny actually because you can pretty much guess what mood he's in by the type of thing he recommends watching. A sad movie? He's in his feels and probably lowkey needs a good cry. A fun anime? He wants to have fun and not pay too much attention, probably just relax.
A horror movie? He either wants to try and scare you and then act like the knight in shining armor (he's actually shitting himself too, trust)
"Shit! They just did a jumpscare, I didn't expect one two seconds later!" a couple of popcorns jumping out of the bowl.
"Oh no did that ugly nun scare my princess?" he wraps your shoulders with his arm, voice comically condescending, "Does she want a kiss to make it better?"
"Don't even try it, Sung. I saw you jump too, loser"
A thriller or dramatic movie? Probably feels the need to overthink something other than his life, and most likely have a nice, interesting conversation.
He's also quite strict with seeing new episodes from a series he hasn't seen before. He doesn't like to watch stuff in your presence unless you are also watching them. He much prefers your company anyway, feels also a bit disrespectful and in general he probably wants to focus on the plot.
He's usually pretty silent and concentrated but if it's a rewatch or he's purposefully showing you something he just yaps. So much. He NEEDS you to feel things as he felt them, you know?
"Baby, there! Did you see that shot? It's so fucking genius actually, will be so important for the plot later on"
"Don't spoil!" you exclaim, annoyed.
"Yah, I didn't spoil, I just commented on how good the shot was!" he defended, as you rolled your eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. Shush."
But it's actually stronger than him, I fear.
"The composer using that bit of music during that scene..I know what they're doing"
"How can you hate someone so much but also enjoy their presence at the same time? Such good acting"
But don't get me wrong! He loves to hear you yap just as much. He's actually so in awe, looking at you with those big round eyes and an amused smile.
"Am I talking too much? Ah, sorry baby" you chuckle embarrassed as you catch yourself basically covering the audio of the movie.
He shakes his head with a smile, still with those adoring eyes. Like you could do no wrong, ever.
"No, my baby. You could be literally reading a cooking book, I don't care. You look too pretty."
But when you've both seen the movie/series in question and it's NOT a sad one...it's over. You both know damn well it's just part of the game foreplay at that point.
"Honey, how about we just chill and rewatch this? It was fun last time"
And just like last time, this time was indeed fun, since the movie was left on his own to the end credits as you were blowing each other's backs out.
It's a given at that point, I don't make the rules

The babygirlification if Hikaru is crazy in this fandom... I can't believe that people seem to believe he did zero bad things when ch109 literally showed him standing over Yura and saying that she died so he could feel something...? Just because he's not the one who pushed her, doesn't mean he wasn't an accomplice! (I don't see how Nino would've known about the hiking trip without his help. Also don't see why he would be there monologuing unless he's also a hiking enthusiast who just happened to be there.) He could be both! He could be someone Ai loved but also be a person who became lost without her! Look at Aqua who literally went on a maniacal journey of revenge that saved literally no one & killed 2/3 people whom Ai loved. Because she's gone. The way I see Hikaru's character is that, he loved Ai and understood her as a person instead of the persona she presented. Yet her passing made that persona the only legacy she left behind (in his eyes). She was seen as "the idol closest to the Dome" even though she didn't care! That title wasn't given to any of the other Bkoma members, just her. And, he wasn't really allowed into their children's life because she said so. The only thing he's got left were the "lies" and despite knowing that killing people for her legacy is not what she would've wanted, she's not around to stop him anymore. I think he was a man driven to desperation and doing terrible things because his love was genuine yet no one taught him how to love properly. And her final "rejection" made him believe that being a terrible person was the only thing he could be. Which was why Ai's video became such a huge blow to him: he could've lived without her knowing that her as a person didn't let go of him, yet he went down this path thinking that the true her rejected him & the "lies" was the only thing he could take.
I don't think Ai's rejection broke Hikaru, per se. I think she made him believe that he was worthy of love and not broken (like he thought). And the way things unfold drove him into a spiral that was planted long ago. Humans don't need to be innocent to be worthy of love. The HKAI relationship was two traumatised children finding comfort in eachother. And Hikaru's crimes were about someone letting intrusive thoughts get to them. I don't like how Akasaka handled it at all, but I think erasing Hikaru's grief and the destruction it brought isn't a good way to read his character.
SO, for what it's worth, I do think the way you've analyzed Hikaru here is how he was intended to be read by Akasaka, at least by the end of the story, I don't blame anyone at all who went into this final stretch of OnK legit thinking we were going to get a reveal that Hikaru was not just a straight up villain or at least sympathizing with him and interpreting him as a slightly softer character, because the story basically spends the entirety of the Movie Arc beating you over the head with Extremely Sympathetic Hikaru Characterization.
Hell, it starts asking you to sympathize with him basically from the word go. The first concrete fact we learn about him outside of Aqua's insanely (understandably!) biased POV immediately throws every explicit and implicit assumption we have about him out the window. Not only does his age mean that he was one of Ai's peers and not, as Aqua seems to have been assuming, an older man who had victimized her but we learn this information in tandem with realizing - as Akane points out - this means Taiki was conceived when he was eleven years old, with all that implies. Akane's disgusted reaction pretty clearly telegraphs to the reader how we're supposed to take it and… idk, maybe this sounds cynical, but giving a character a backstory of CSA is like the Press To Make Audience Instantly Want To Protect This Character's Smile button. It very much primes you to want to feel bad for him.
109 does throw a spanner in these works and I do remember even at the time feeling very fucking uncertain about OnK potentially going for the grody old trope of "this character was a CSA victim and now they're Evil" (IF ONLY I FUCKING KNEW) but the more I re-read 109, I felt increasingly uncertain of what, exactly, we were supposed to take away from it. I actually had a suspicion for a really long time that 109 was so heavy handedly and overtly portraying him as a straightforward villain specifically to mislead the reader When They Cry-style and that he wasn't the one responsible for Yura's death at all.
Add all this to the fact that the Movie Arc centers Hikaru's victimhood and his extremely sad wet cat pathetic boy characterization literally at the expense of Ai's story in the movie that was supposed to be about her but what the fuck ever and it's really hard not to think that this is how the story wants you to feel about Hikaru. Hell, the Movie Arc even asks us to empathize with Airi, who is a fucking child rapist. I don't think it's unreasonable for anyone to assume that we were not supposed to think of Hikaru as a straightforward villain, especially when Ruby basically, like, looks into the camera when she's having her meeting with him and goes "nobody is born ontologically evil btw people get fucked up by their environments and blaming individuals for systemic issues isn't how anything gets fixed".
Also, like… I want to be delicate about this but I think it's also important to remember that Hikaru's motivations and supposed villainy as portrayed in OnK as of late are pretty outlandish and hard to connect with. But there are almost certainly people in OnK's audience who are also C/SA survivors who are able to resonate with a more grounded portrayal of him. I don't blame anyone at all for preferring a more sympathetic take on him in that case.

Thanks for answering my ask before....If you don't mind me asking (again), can I ask, what are your top 7 (or top 10) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series/etc) and your top 10 favorite (fictional) characters from any media? Why do you love them all? Sorry if you've answered this questions before......
I love this question, thank you for asking!! I will talk forever about my favorite things!! The descriptions are going to be short because if I go too much into why I love the media/characters I would literally be talking forever.
Favorite media (in no particular order):
The Magicians (tv show) - I have not read the books but the TV show is just very well done imo. A lot of things change season to season and it does not follow the typical formula that I'm used to which makes it very interesting.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv show) - Truly one of my favorite shows of all time. I honestly don't think I can summarize what makes it so good; you just have to watch it.
His Dark Material (book series) - This is about the book series. The movie is bad; the HBO TV series adaptation is decent. The writing is what makes the book series stand out for me; it's phenomenal and has cemented it as probably my favorite book series of all time. It's beautiful and tragic and I'm a sucker for biblical themes. I wouldn't recommend reading unless you're okay with a little sacrilege.
Lord of the Rings (book series/movies) - I'm mainly talking about the movies. The books are great too but for me it's a rare instance of the movies being as good or possibly better than the books. Amazing casting, costuming, scenery, cinematography, and practical effects!! They still hold up 20 years later as some of the best movies of all time.
The Left Hand of Darkness (book) - I read this recently and it became one of my favorite books. It's a sci-fi book about an envoy who visits a planet that is always cold and the people there have no gender. I'm not gonna say much more about it but I really cannot recommend this enough; it stayed with me in a way that not many things have.
Trigun (manga/anime) - I still haven't read the manga (i'm going to) and I've heard that the manga knocks the anime out of the park, which is impressive because the anime is one of the most moving things I've ever seen (both the 98' and 23' adaptations). It's very character driven and it very quickly became on of my favorites of all time.
Avatar the Last Airbender (tv show) - the OG series is one of the best shows I've ever watched. I know it's for kids, but it is truly an almost perfect show to me.
My Hero Academia (manga/anime) - I'm biased because this is my current hyperfixation but I've become very attached to the characters and I think it's a really interesting look at society and the way it elevates some people and breaks down others.
Favorite characters (in no particular order):
Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - She's just… character of all time. She works so fucking hard and goes through so much and she can barely hold on but she still just keeps fucking going. See the season 2 finale "Bargaining part 2" for a full understanding of why I love her.
Vash the Stampede (Trigun) - He's so old and isolated and has gone through so much but he still has so much faith and hope and love and peace. His ideology has flaws but he is just so good at his core and I love him.
Quentin Coldwater (The Magicians) - He's so fucking depressed and sad and he wants to be good at things but he's just not as good as he wants to be but he still tries and people still love him because of/despite it. God I fucking love him (I relate to him a little too much).
Nico Di Angelo (Percy Jackson) - He has a lot of darkness in him and is scared of it but still keeps trying to be good and you know what? He's succeeding. I love him.
Bakugou Katsuki (My Hero Academia) - He has extreme anger issues and starts as a huge asshole but betters himself because he can't stand to be that way anymore and I really respect that.
Natalie (Yellowjackets) - She's a fucking mess in the real world but extremely helpful in the wilderness. Something about her needing to be useful and handling it very poorly when she's back in a situation where she can't be just really speaks to me.
Adora (She-Ra) - Much like Buffy, she works so fucking hard and is literally the chosen one against her will and she still stands up and fights no matter what.
Tenth Doctor (Doctor Who) - I think I'm biased on this one because I watched David Tennant act his ass off at a formative age, but man. Once again, characters who are very lonely/isolated but still try their best to help people who won't get it and won't thank them just really get to me.
Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - An extremely complicated character. I think the main thing that draws me to him is that he kind of breaks the rules regarding vampires/vampire souls within the Buffy universe.
Zuko (Avatar the Last Airbender) - Best redeption arc of all time. Idk what else to say.
Merlin (Merlin) - I think this is number 11 but I have to include him. I've never seen a better example of someone whose moral compass is exclusively being loyalty to one person. He disregards everything else. His entire existence is solely devoted to Arthur and the realm and also Colin Morgan's acting is extremely compelling to me.

I've seen more than a few people be like "I HATE saying I'm a horror fan then here come crawling 100 edgelords to tell me about how I'm not a *real* horror fan unless I drool all over extreme shit like A Serbian Film. 🚩🚩🚩"
It's crazy to me cause like. I have NEVER once in my life seen someone say those things though with the amt of people talking about it I'm rather inclined to believe them...... but I fucking hate that edgelord attitude. And I probably hate THEIR attitude too, which is the real problem here.
Like no, I don't think anyone should be telling you whether you are or aren't a horror fan, that's kinda your thing to decide at the end of the day, and berating someone for having boundaries is always catastrophic levels of disrespectful. I think anyone with a brain would be able to agree on those.
But I also think it's incredibly shitty of you to say that everyone who enjoys certain movies is "a psychopath", sick in the head, a potential serial killer, a huge walking red flag, and so on and so forth. I mean I don't know if you've aware of this, but if you're a horror fan, you've probably got a couple movies in your top 10 that have other people walking out the room and sleeping with the lights on all night. That's kinda the point here.
It's extremely hypocritical to talk about how annoying it is to be told you're not a "real" horror fan because of your personal taste, and then turn around and start pushing films out of the genre because they don't fit YOUR idea of what "real" horror is. You see what I'm getting at ???
To say there should be an entirely separate category for torture porn (read: any mildly gory film you don't approve of) is to say a film made you so uncomfortable you don't wanna see it anywhere near the films you consider "normal".
You're uncomfortable and you're disgusted, that's fair, but the problem here is you want to push it so far away from you (and your identity as a horror fan) that you end up slamming the door in the face of other people who love horror just as much as you do.
If someone forces you or tries to force you to watch ANY horror movie, that's a problem with them as a human being, not with the films they watch. ESPECIALLY if they don't warn you about anything that might upset you beforehand.
I don't know, I kinda lost the plot because this is always really upsetting to me. I don't want everyone to enjoy the same things I do, because that's unreasonable. I just want to feel respected and not like people are gonna peg me as someone to be wary of based on the movies I watch.

ritchie’s🎃💀 ABCs of Horror Movie Marathon!! 💀🎃
Horror movie challenge prompted by @quintsmachete
Day Sixteen - P is for Psycho (1960)
Don't you love it when a classic actually lives up to the hype?
There's nothing I could say about this movie that hasn't already been said. And nothing I say could ever really capture just how phenomenal this movie is, but I feel like its immense cultural impact speaks for itself.
Honestly, I don't really *want* to say much about this movie, because I think if you're reading this and somehow haven't seen it yet, you need to. If you can go into it knowing as little as possible, if you've somehow gone this whole time without knowing the twist (I, fortunately, only knew half of it) then you need to experience this movie for yourself.
But if you somehow really need me to sell it for you, here are some things you might want to know:
The cinematography is peak, and still holds up beautifully. The use of sharp, dark shadows and quick cuts that show everything you need to see while leaving things up to the imagination are especially impressive.
Story-wise, this movie feels like an extended episode of the Twilight Zone. If you don't know why that's a good thing, you really, really need to go watch an episode of the Twilight Zone.
In that same vein, this movie isn't all that scary to modern viewers unless you've really never seen a horror movie before. That might make it seem safe or lame depending on your outlook, but personally I found it had just the right amount of tension.
Walt Disney fucking hates this movie. That's not a myth, he said it was disgusting. I haven't heard a better testament for a movie since Ben Shapiro talked shit about The Shape of Water.
It would honestly be faster and easier to name the few things I didn't care for, so here's those (tbh this list also doubles as a content warning if you're unfamiliar with film before like, 1999):
Obviously the depiction of a certain mental disorder here isn't great. It was 1960, after all. The best I can say about is that it sort of makes sense and *seems* well-researched for the time. Talking about this in detail would also be a major spoiler so I'm not gonna do that, but if the demonization of certain conditions gives you the ick then you may want to pass up on this one. Or just the last 10-20 minutes of it. I still think you should give the first 30-40 minutes a shot regardless.
Misuse of the word 'transvestite' in an obviously transmisogynist way did not age well. Obviously. But to the movie's credit, the particularities of this subject are handled similarly to The Silence of the Lambs (again, I'd elaborate, but it's major spoilers).
Treating taxidermy as a creepy/bizarre hobby only done by weirdos. This is less of a major issue and more of a pet peeve or nitpick.
Actually that's honestly it. I'd argue the movie is flawless otherwise.
If you like horror at all, if you like old films at all, if you like appreciating the greatest classics at all, this movie is a must-watch. I highly recommend watching it on a lonely evening while eating some sandwiches after a long day of work.
This movie gets five outta five showers 🚿🚿🚿🚿🚿

DONT listen to redditors when they tell you a good jumping off point to get into spiderman comics is Superior!! they are lying to you!! not even as a dig at superior spiderman, as much as i love making fun of it it's a good comic run
but I can't imagine recommending the one where Peter gets freaky friday-ed into a dying doc ock's shriveled body and then proceeds to die in said shriveled body as Doc Ock fucks around in Spiderman's body. and you have to read dying wish which is honestly a pretty dense 5 issue run leading up to Superior Spider-Man on its own, filled with characters that you won't have encountered unless you've been reading asm up to that point (be honest how many of you have even heard of horizon labs.) But then the first like 5ish issues of ssm Doc Ock just tries to get with MJ and also it is HEAVILY SUGGESTED to that doc ock has feelings for May. In Peter's Body. And the whole time Peter is just stuck as a ghost watching doc ock SORT OF FLIRT WITH HIS AUNT IN HIS BODY ? and I'll stop here. but in no world would I suggest maybe one of the most absurd spiderman comics (sure it's no sins of the past but come on) to someone who has only seen the movies or the cartoons, and wants to get into the comics. I get that it's like a fan favorite but come on!!
anyway here's what id recommend people read if they want to Spiderman:
Obviously ASM is the main title and if youre really committed to being in the know on spiderman, it's definitely The place to go. But also it has 900+ issues and it can hard to find a good starting place.
I don't hate the 2022 run as much as some people do (totally reasonably btw there's some choices I'm not crazy for eithsr), and since it's the ongoing run there's not as much you'd have to read to be caught up. A lot of it is little 3-4 issue self contained stories! There's only fifty-threeee (?) issues out rn so plenty to read but not as daunting as the almost One Thousand Issues that lay before you and a near 60+ year run. I also hear the 2012 run is pretty good but I've only read a few issues here and there of that one so I cannot speak to it myself lol
Another series that's not too long but still has plenty there: Deadpool/Spider-Man! has two fan favorites and absolutely plenty of wacky comic antics. The first big plotline isn't the best but the character moments more than make up for it. Only 50 issues so not too bad! Plus, the run is over so you won't be trying to catch up (im hoping they revive it <-self delusion)
Avenging Spider-Man is another good jumping off point imo! It's a team-up series that will point you to ongoing plotlines without dragging you into them, so if one happens to strike your fancy you can go find those comics to read that storyline. It's fun, heartfelt, and self contained (for the most part). Can you tell I like team up stories yet.
For individual issues you can read completely standalone:
Deadpool annual #2 (2013)
Avenging Spider-Man #4
Amazing Spider-Man #248
Daredevil #8 & #9 (2016) (two issues ik im cheating, trust me though)
And if you're just looking to get into comics in general, here's a couple stand alone miniseries that I really like (all 10 issues or less!)
Gwenpool Strikes Back (spiderman is in this one!)
Hawkeye: Freefall (spideys here too!!)
Defenders 2017 (he's not here though... as far as I can remember)
(also you can find all of these online! (for free ;)) at readcomicsonline.li but for the love of god don't use that site if you don't have an ad blocker)

Miscellaneous Tag game
Thank you for makin this and tagging me Mar!!! @ronald-speirs
-
Favorite place in the world you’ve visited?
I haven't been many places at all, and all of the places I enjoyed are neighboring states (Florida, SC, Tennessee, Alabama.) so it's almost the same as being home. I'll say Alabama, went to a cliff that my parents, aunt, and uncles used to climb and camp at all the time, idk what it's actually called but they always called it Sand Rock (take a guess what the rock is primarily made of...) it was entirely untouched when they used to go, but now there's fucking campsites and a huge pavilion there, I hate it bc the pictures my parents took made the place look so perfect and secluded, no trash anywhere. Now there's a fucking dumpster with shit leaking out of it and stupid "Beware! Cliff!" signs everywhere like no shit there's a cliff its a rock wall you idiots-
Something you’re proud of yourself for?
.... girl idk- I guess I'm proud of how regardless of the circumstances, I always stick to my morals and principles. Thanks for that one, dad.
Favorite books?
Oh!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! hmm-
One Bullet Away - Nathaniel Fick. Probably my favorite of all time, it's so well and personally written, made me cry every time I read it.
Islands Of The Damned - R.V. Burgin. I love how simply he wrote it, like he really put his authentic self on those pages and didn't try to seem "more educated" than he was because he was just a little Texas boy and I loved that about him.
Those are really the only ones I can recall details from so I'll stick with those, but I did enjoy Helmet For My Pillow - Robert Leckie a lot, I read that in the truck while waiting for my brother to get out of class,. Generation Kill - Evan Wright was also good but it read so... grade-school-y, ya know?
My To Read list is:
With The Old Breed - Eugene Sledge. Started it but couldn't continue bc it seems like he's censoring himself a bit and IIIIIIII don't fuck with that, I'll power through it eventually though.
Red Platoon - Clinton Romesha. It's by a Medal Of Honor recipient from The Battle of Kamdesh, the only reason I haven't read it yet is bc i will sob about it for days after and I'm not ready for that.
My To Buy list is:
China Marine - Eugene Sledge. I WANT TO KNOW EVERY LITTLE DETAIL OF HIS TIME IN CHINA AFTER THE WAR-
(switching to non-war books oops)
Call Me By Your Name & Find Me - André Aciman. I just want to kill myself really, I want to hurt so bad that I never recover. Both are written in first person though and I hate that shit...
The Power Of The Dog - Thomas Savage. I watched the movie first and now I need to base my whole life off of these pieces of ART like fuckkkkkkkk.
Fellow Travelers - Thomas Mallon. Uhhhhhh yeah I want to submerge myself in this series entirely. Supposedly there's an ass ton of changes from in the series from the book, like Hawk being in the Army in the show and not the Navy like in the book, and I need to know if there are Seaman jokes-
Something that makes your heart happy when thinking about it?
Maizie 💚💚💚💚 my goofy goopy gooby girl 💚💚💚💚 my baby 💚💚💚💚 my sweet little bully girl 💚💚💚💚 the light of my life and the hindrance of my life-path 💚💚💚💚 the most stressful thing I've ever had to deal with day in and day out 💚💚💚💚
also cock. yeah that makes my heart happy too.
Favorite thing about your culture?
The MEN- okay I'll be serious. I'm not exactly sure what my culture is since Southern culture is Black culture (no I won't fight anyone on this unless you've been here, experience life here, and looked into literally any staple of Southern culture and seen that yeah 99% of it is rooted in Black history) and I'm.... Ghostly- I love the sense of community and the general easy-going but also absolutely chaotic feel you get everywhere you go. Like yeah I could get called "baby" and "sugar" and "honey" by the sweet old cashier, and then right when I walk out of the store I could suddenly be helping some stranger pack a deer with ice and have blood all over my hands and arms, the polarity of Southern-ness is great.
When did you join the HBO War fandom? What was the first show you watched?
I want to say two and a half years ago, not really sure though- Band of Brothers was my first watched it back to back like four times, then Gen Kill and watched that one probably four times back to back as well, then The Pacific like two or three times back to back, and now I'm suffering through MOTA.
Have you read any of Easy Company’s books? If so, which ones were your favorite?
I have not. I don't really want to either bc I don't want to realize all the inaccuracies of the show vs the true events. Like the little things, I don't want to watch the show with distain-
Favorite HBO War character and your favorite moment with them?
Oh fuck you Mar, I can't choose!!
BoB: I cannot choose, I can't. I love so many of them way too much that it hurts. Loved whenever Johnny yelled "BULL!!" like yes bestie I would scream his name too-
GK: Poke <3 whenever he was on screen was my favorite. I think his "and all the love in their hearts, from their wives and children. And all that hate, dog. All the hate it took to blow these motherfuckers away. It's destiny, dog! White Man's gotta rule the world!" and that was the first time we saw Doc smile too, love that for them. Alternatively whenever he looks at Brad with his shark-like smile, I would FOLD if he looked at me that way.
TP: SID AND YOU ALREADY KNOW THIS MAR FUCK I LOVE THAT BOY SO MUCH I NEED HIM SO BAD. When he tore Gene a new one about why they were the ones that made it back and not all those other guys, like yes put your boy in line-
MOTA: *crickets*
Do you make content for any fandoms, if so; what sort of content?
HBOwar: Sort of? Not as of late but I have written a few fics and made a few moodboards, can find all of them in my masterlist. I'm sorta working on some TP stuff but it's so hard for me to write for that while FT is consuming my every waking thought.
Fellow Travelers: HAHHAH I CAN'T STOP- Oh I've already made so many little webweaves and edits and a moodboard, and rn I'm working on a puppyplay fic hahah
UFC: I don't make content though I kinda wish I had when I was super-super into the fighters on a personally level lmao
Favorite actor/actress and your favorite film of theirs?
I don't have one, like there's not a specific actor/actress I've watched shitty film for. I usually enjoy Mads Mikkelsen in whatever he does, Jabob Pitts is also lovely, Anne Hathaway is my If I Was Straight actress
Favorite quote/s that you wish to share with others?
"Give what you get and don't complain when you get what you give."
Random fact your mutuals/followers don’t know about you?
Mm, I don't know, I'm always cold and I hate it and will never willingly live any further north than where I currently live, also no further west than Louisiana cause fuck Texas on a personal level
If you’re a writer, do you need a beta reader (say yes so I can be your beta reader 🤭)?
I don't know what a beta reader is please explain SOMEONE-
Three things that make you smile?
Actually being on a job site regardless of how anxious it makes me, I've spent way too long doing what I do from home and not being a part of the installation process.
Hearing other people laugh, idk why but hearing anyone laugh makes me smile.
These pictures of my goofy goopy gooby girl

Deadpool & Wolverine Review
Tumblr media
Is there a reason I should review this movie? Everyone already saw it and formed their opinion on it. Maybe I should just skip this one...
Don't even think about it thunder thighs! You think you can give this movie the same treatment as Babes? ...Who the fuck are you? Where's Buggnutz? I gave him the week off, I'm just making sure the BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR gets the proper respect it deserves. Now hold on a sec- Just tell us your history with the franchise Betsy.
Uh... Well I saw Logan Good and only the first Deadpool Unacceptable, should've watched every movie the character has been in before watching this one. Even X-Men Origins: Wolverine? YES! But I don't want to! I know what happens in that movie and Deadpool 2, and I didn't have any trouble understanding the movie! Yeah but if you watched those the trailer would've made you moist, wouldn't've? I doubt it. I like Logan a lot and Deadpool was great when it came out, y'know, when I was sixteen. But I haven't seen either in like 7 years and have no desire to revisit any X-Men movie. I'm just more of an Avenger comic reader, y'know? Fucking liar, you've only got DC comics on your shelf. We fucking caught ya bitch I bet you don't even like the MCU. Hey thanks for that segway!
This is gonna be the first and only chance I get to talk about the MCU this year, unless Venom forgets to take it's medication again, but I like the MCU a lot. More than most reviewers seems to, anyway. I have some differing opinions that some of the other fans too (The first Avengers movie is the best one, eat my entire asshole.) but I liked most of the movies in Phase 4 or 5 or whatever well enough. Hell, I'm one of the like sixteen people who watched The Marvels, and that movie was a lot of fun. If you are tired of the MCU, that's fine. I feel like you can stop talking about it if you want to. Amen and praise Stan Lee, now get to the sticking your dick in the movie! In a good way or a bad way? Up to you *audible wink*.
What's The Movie About?
CAMEOS. CAMEOS CAMEOS CAMEOS. WHAT PLOT IT'S JUST FUCKING CAMEOS. It's more than just cameos dicksquirt. Yeah barely. It's something about Deadpool's timeline being erased and he needs Wolverine for some reason to fix it. And Wolverine's sad because he let his X-Men die. But it's also a Deadpool movie so you don't fucking care. They're lying watch the movie eight times to catch the subtle storytelling they clearly missed. DON'T DO THAT.
What I Like.
The music is good. Hoo boy are we off to a screaming start. Chill. I was just saying that I like that the Deadpool movies use unconventional songs for action scenes, and the Madonna song they use over the final battle was cool. I really liked the cameos that made up the resistance team against the villain. Spoilers artfully dodged, wonderful dismount! And they were pretty much the only cameos I liked. Never mind, tripped at the goal line. The action is also really good. As befits the character, it is brutal and hilarious, but I wasn't expecting the how well they showcase some characters' powers. Weeooo Weeoo backhanded compliment alert! Highlight for me was the fight scene over the opening credits. I really liked the fight and how creatively sacrilegious it was. Plus, some of the humor made me laugh. The send off the Fox Studios over the credits was sweet, and I can see fans of pre-MCU Marvel movies not only getting a kick out of the movie, but really appreciating the fact this movie exists. So that's very nice. Beautifully prosed. Now, everyone stop reading here mmmkay? Just rest easy that some unknown and sexually frustrated fumble-cunt agrees with your pretty little opinion. You don't need to see the rest. Stop driving away my readers! I ain't got much of them to begin with.
What I Didn't Like.
Almost everything good this movie does has some parts that were dumb or annoying. Like half the comedy is obnoxious. God, tell me something new! Kinda like your interruptions, fuckhead! The character of Deadpool is as faithful as ever, which means he can be super fucking annoying. At least the other characters think so too, but it doesn't help that Wolverine saying fuck every other word was getting on my nerves. Pot calling the kettle blaaaaaaack. Well it sounds weird! Also, not only am I trying to cut back on my swearing a bit, but also I change it up every once in a while. Shitheel. Hehehe sweet talker. Now tell me the villain's lame even though you've never read about this character and don't know how faithful she is to the source material. Um, yeah, that's true. But even if she is faithful it doesn't change that she's bland. You thought the finger-mindreading effect was cool, admit it! Uh, yeah also true. But it makes no sense! Who are you, the fucking mind police, fingerbanging edition? Who cares what if it makes sense? It extends to the whole plot though! The time travel stuff (Spoilers) IT'S IN THE TRAILER! Is not cohesive with the MCU explanation as a whole. It would help if the plot wasn't clearly an afterthought, but clearly I'm the only viewer who fucking cares. What? The movie can't make up it's own thing? Not if it's gonna pillage the MCU crumbs for cheap fanservice and jokes! AND SPEAKING OF CHEAP JOKES, why is it funny that Deadpool is gay? Because getting fucked in the ass is funny. Why?! Seriously, sit down and tell me why is Deadpool being gay or bisexual or whatever funny. I'm not saying LGBTQIA+ people are above being made fun of, Soundslikethat'swhatyou'redoing but I just don't get it. And not only is this a well that the movie comes to time and time again, but it's all over the marketing! At least it's better gay man representation than Mean Girls. ...Fuck you. Gladly. Can you at least admit that this movie is too long. What?! Are you on all the cocaine Feige confiscated from the cast/prop department? No, but during for the entire final act I was waiting for the movie to wrap up! And my god! Can a Marvel movie have stakes again? MCU movies have never been great for having plots with lasting consequences, but at least they were good at faking it. THERE WERE TWO MOVIES BETWEEN INFINITY WAR AND END GAME. Wait wait wait, you wanted the movie to kill Wolverine and Deadpool? YES. This is definitely gonna be the last movie where Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine and definitely should be the last Deadpool movie, so why not? Hell, isn't the whole point of the final fight scene to tell us that there is a million versions of Deadpool in the multiverse? So you could totally kill him off and still keep Ryan Reynolds on the hook for whatever cameos you want. Christ Buggy was right, you are a sociopath! WELL MAYBE IF MOVIES STOPPED FAKING CHARACTER DEATHS I WOULDN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT SO MUCH. Stakes are only effective if you sometimes follow through with the threats the story gives. Bathos be damned, my balls are the shade of blueberries.
Final Summation.
The movie's fine. After all that? You're not even gonna give us the good shit you whingeing coconut? Well the movie ain't worst movie I've seen in any aspect. It's not the worst superhero, Fox, or Marvel movie I've watched, hell, not even the worst of any of those movies I've seen this year! But it's also not the best thing since self-lubricating dildos. I'm giving it a begrudging recommendation, not that it matters because if you want to see this movie even slightly you already did.
We're just gonna end of self-lubricating dildos? YEP AND YOU CAN LICK MY CINNAMON RING BITCH.

When it comes to sex, every woman on the planet falls into one of these definitions.
You can and might try and prove me wrong only because you know it's true.
The slut: she will fuck anyone, anywhere, any time and not ashamed until her friends shame her.
The pretend slut: will dress the part and act the part only to trap a person into a sexless relationship.
The wanna be slut: will dress the part for attention but really wants a long term relationship.
The attention whore: does whatever it takes to have the attention on them.
The reservist: will hangout with their rowdy friends and act like them because they want friends, attention, and want to fit in.
The married: hanging out with single friends because married friends are not as exciting and has an excuse to get out of the house once in a blue moon away from the spouse and or children.
The conservative: quite possibly very slutty but never shows it publicly because actually ashamed of themselves.
The relationship slut: only fucks unless in a relationship even if that relationship is a day old.
The Virgin: not necessarily a virgin but has the least amount of partners but can also be a virgin as well. Usually timid but can also allow anything to happen to them because they just want to be liked and afraid to express true feelings.
The cock slut: the bigger the better, if you're less than a certain inch you won't come within 100 feet of having a chance.
The good Christian: will only have sex after marriage not before including but not limited to masturbation if they even do that. Also would only have sex for procreation.
The widow: has a dead spouse, feels like they'd be cheating on their dead spouse if they did anything but still wants to have fun with friends.
The dirty one: makes any conversation sexual and can make anything look like or sound like a reproductive organ.
I'm certain there's more categories but if you don't fall in these categories you're probably a legitimate nun.
Now when comes to men and sex they all fall into these categories.
The hole fucker: would literally fuck any hole the dick fits into.
The pretender: pretty much will claim they don't like sex or a lot of sex but 100% lying.
The playboy: very charming but strictly lives by the code of cum and go.
The Virgin: most likely 100% a virgin but acts like he's not because all his buddies have been laid and desperately wants to get laid.
The charming: similar to Playboy but will actually stay the night and possibly have a short term relationship.
The married: similar to the married woman. But can be way worse about rowdiness to prove can still keep up with the single friends.
The pervert: eye humps everyone and makes everyone uncomfortable.
The perfect gentleman: usually a well balanced combination of many of these categories.
The widow: very similar to the woman widow but still has the desires and needs.
The egotistical: thinks they're gods gift to women, usually showing off their body or makes an excuse to.
The shy one: similar to the Virgin but has had a minimum of 1 sex partner. Usually lacks confidence.
Mr Grey: the most conservative one but if you've read 50 shades of grey or seen the movies, you will understand better.
There's a lot more of these categories as well but most of the time it's easy to spot them by basic body language.
Long story short we all have human needs and desires and usually go about obtaining them all the wrong ways.

Can you please talk about Roy Mustang for me? I'd love to hear your interpretation of him? What do you think of him in 03 vs brotherhood/manga?
Ok grab a snack lol.
So to preface I have to say that I don't like Brotherhood in general and my opinions on that play a part in my opinion of Roy. He's my absolute favorite character like I have a VHS tape from like 2005 where I took my sister's VCDs and literally took up half the tape of a Roy montage lol. But these are my opinions and why I think he has the superir portrayl in 03.
Keep in mind though I have seen Brotherhood once, havent read the manga in years, but ive seen 03 and COS SO SO SO many times.
So I feel like the overall theme of Brotherhood is "military and armestris good. Ishvalain immigrants bad." And the military in 03 is painted so much differently. It's more realistic and they drive home the point that the military fucked up and show us that Roy really has not been a great person. I mean in 03 we see him try to kill himself twice over the fact that he's killed so many people and especially he's haunted by the innocent children. When he kills Winrys parents he realzies hes become so absolutely immoral and rotten that he has killed his own people and gets turnt and tries to take his own life. He's shady, there's that scene where he threatens to blackmail child Edward/expose him and Al (it's early in the season but I can't quite remember what for) yet he tries to shelter them from how harsh reality is. He thinks by becoming Furher everything will be okay now, he will be forgiven, and the country will be better. Long story short he has his own agenda that sounds great on paper but in reality, at least in the first like half of the series, is impossible.
The growth of his character in 03 is huge and they kind of stealthily plant the seeds early on. He's no longer gunning for the position of Furher because of his own selfish reasons, he's actively seeking revenge for Hughes which makes him start to unravel.
Obviously the character of Pride/Bradley deviates from the source in 03. Actually all the homonculous and their personal foes are directly related to the people they're fighting. Edward/Sloth etc. The whole relationship of Bradley and Roy and also the characterization of Bradley as Pride is very deliberate - Roy fights Bradley and is severely wounded/almost dies fighting Pride. The entire series Roy has so much pride and so much of an ego that it's destroying him. He is literally forced to face his own deadly sin and to kill his own ego.
Ultimately he kills Bradley but in doing so his life unravels and he does not get to be the hero, the savior, the one that fixes everything which his pride previously convinced him he was capable of doing. In COS we find him isolated, depressed and a shell of his former self, waiting for Edward to return, crippled and alone. Even by the end when he saves the day in the fancy little air balloon, he still cannot protect Edward and looses him forever. He looses absolutely everything and the director of COS even said in some kind of interview or something that after the movie Roy still would never hold the same power he once did and have that same respect. So at the end of the day - he has thrown everything he's ever had away for good because of his pride. He has no happy ending. He redeems himself to the viewer (unless you're me and the second you first see him go 😍 zaddy I can fix him) but by then he is too far gone - he is both an awful person and a martyr. We know his heart ultimately is in the right place by the end but his war crimes and atrocities still exist and his failure is still very evident. If you've never seen it, look up the 10 of Swords tarot card - while I'm pretty sure they did not purposely do it, the meaning of the card and ESPECIALLY the imagery of the original card is so so accurate and I think the best summary of his character. Look up Labyrnthos or something like that their summary of it is the best.
So I feel like in 03 he has far more depth and his character arc is so, so, much richer.
To discuss this I also have to get into his relationship with the Elric brothers, mainly Edward. He and Edward are parallels of each other - both of them are arrogant and oblivious and in trivial pursuit of righting their wrongs, when in reality there is nothing they can do to rectify either situation or take back the damage they've done. Roy obviously does care for the Elric brothers but does not know how to show it properly and ends up hurting them more than helping them, he basically put them into a world that destroys them - Edward loves his brother but can't outwardly emote it in the same way Al can and ends up literally destroying Al's everything when he convinces him to help attempt their mom's life.
Edward hates people who use others for their own personal gain or for selfish reasons, he hates arrogance and hatred itself. He rightly identifies all these qualities in Roy who he appears to hate, when in reality Edward tried to bring back his mom knowing there's a chance he and his brother could die, he is also extremely arrogant and has no problem using all the militaries money and resources to do what he wants yet he cannot fathom why Roy, who sticks his neck out for him many times, gets angry with him or why some Ishvallans people are offended that he is in the military.
They have some distantly codependent relationship because they both realize they need each other - Roy needed to recruit Edward initially to show off, he also realizes Edward knows valuable information he uses to complete his goal, but also sees someone who needs some form of guidance and discipline. Edward needs Roy so he can access the power and resources he provides but he also at the end of the day, after leaving the military and coming back randomly and literally going AWOL, Roy (AND his team) does not abandon him.
So knowing that Edward is loyal, Roy assumes in the last episode when he runs into Edward on the street looking fine as hell, that Edward will join him in his battle with pride. Roy has to go into battle now alone which it seems he didn't apparently take into account and because of this he barely beats Bradley and almost dies. Edward finally accepts that Roy isn't 100% gutted and sees the good in him and finally becomes aware that the military he chose to join is corrupt, therefore so is he - he doesn't think what Roy is going to do will solve anything yet he goes and fights Dante to basically accomplish the same thing. You finally see that deep down they did always care about each other. When they say goodbye it is like the completion of both character arcs, at least for the series itself.
In COS they still follow the same path in that, yes, did they accomplish their goals? For sure, but now Roy -who succesfully killed Bradley - is demoted and exciled and miserable, and Edward -who got his brothers body restored - is alone and has absolutely nobody who understands him and is stuck that way for life.
This relates to my over feelings about Roy and his character arc because it adds to the depth of it. Their relationship is integral to it and would not be the same at all without it. I didnt talk much about Brotherhood because its been so long I don't want to mess up the facts on, but the one thing that plays into my opinion is that in BH Roy does get what he wants and I dont like that. Roy does not desevre that unfortunately and it is way boring because its like.....oh....ok? What a total shocker -_- VS Wow after ALL this, he fails even though we all think hes going to succeed at first. I also like how Edward is portrayed in 03 way better and all that ties into it to but that's another topic itself.

What kind of media provides inspiration for your muse (movies, music, comics, books, research)? How often do you try to search out new sources of inspiration, or does it happen more organically? How do you start drafting a reply- does it start with a concept, a phrase, or quote?
Tumblr media
ASK ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE ABOUT MY CHARACTERIZATION OR HOW I PLAY MY CHARACTER.
( im SO SORRY i waffled but also, like - that first question in particular is really great and i've had such fun answering it! it has a lot of detail about my heid i think & i hope it makes some sense ! )
Tumblr media
What kind of media provides inspiration for your muse (movies, music, comics, books, research)?
aw man, i am hugely inspired by films. primarily because i'm a total film fan ( me and my partner met studying film and he's, like, super into them ) - there are so many magnificent stories out there told on film & so many classics that i would implore people to watch as a means to get a grasp of certain subject matter or attitudes or even just story inspirations?
when it comes to heid; obviously i'm inspired a lot by war films ( one of my favourite genres actually ! ) - but, heid is a tough cookie because i sort of try to write him as being a mixture of 'war is hell' and 'i love war.' i see him a lot as being like colonel kilgore from apocalypse now ( if you've not seen it, i'm sure you know the 'i love the smell of napalm in the morning' ) but more-so, sergaent barnes from platoon.
platoon is actually one of my all-time-favourite films and barnes is VERY heid.
there's one scene in particular that resonates so hard with my portrayal ( or at least, how i hope to portray heid and it's here ). but it's where i get the quote from in my blog / carrd.
"Now, I got no fight with any man who does what he's told, but when he don't, the machine breaks down. And when the machine breaks down, we break down. And I ain't gonna allow that in any of you. Not one."
otherwise ( and in terms of war films ) - i take inspiration from rambo and the rant that he has during that film. this is more for young heidegger than it is older. like, i headcanon he essentially had a break down in his mid 20s and THIS is very much what it was like.
"Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my war! You asked me, I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to win! But somebody wouldn't let us win! And I come back to the world and I see all those maggots at the airport, protesting me, spitting. Calling me baby killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!"
also, as a side-note ; the part where he sits on the floor sobbing saying 'where are they all?', 'where are they?' - that fucking hits /hard/ and just, urgh. i'd seriously say watch the entire scene because it's so sad but exactly how i see heid as a young guy and is partially why he's so fucking mean now. ( it's also why i want to explore young heid so badly )
another thing i wanted to mention are the samurai films i've been watching. i haven't watched a lot and most focus on samurai being good / or at least morally grey. but sword of doom really resonated with my portrayal; primarily because the lead is essentially seen as a walking sword of death ( he's despised by like, everybody and isn't a particularly nice person ). there's a scene where he witnesses a master swordsman cut down his entire crew and he just stands there half in awe and half in fear.
i read somebody suggest that the lead character is sadistic and essentially, his sword is his penis - to see somebody 'outperform him' & thus have him scared, renders him impotent.
it really resonated with how i see heid & i know that might sound silly but i love the idea of that being how he was first introduced to godo. the scene can be found here ( warning; blood / i uploaded the clip just for this lol )
& on the same note as 'sword of doom' - the scene at the end ( spoiler ) features the lead essentially go on an insane rampage fuelled by being literally haunted by the people he's killed & urgh, i could just /see/ that happening to heid.
How often do you try to search out new sources of inspiration, or does it happen more organically?
it tends to happen more organically - though i do love watching new films for inspiration! i like to seek out war films, samurai films, films with older casts. i've also been delving into a lot of the more classical kinda of films now, too! like, i watched casablanca not long ago and loved that! i see those films as being kind of heid-y. not necessarily in mood but like, i couldn't compare him to a modern flick ( if that makes any degree of sense ).
How do you start drafting a reply- does it start with a concept, a phrase, or quote?
when it comes to a thread reply; i try my best to make the response as natural as possible. like, if the other character is doing a variety of things - i'll have heid respond in a way that feels natural, rather than a step by step process of answering each sentence written.
when it comes to writing a starter or an ask - i'll usually type up heid's initial dialogue and then let the words flow from there. generally, once i get an idea / concept; i can flow pretty well - im a total 'wing it' kinda person.

On the subject of trash. In this case I mean crappy tiktoks, funny video clip montages, avatars that are used to troll or illicit laughter or wow people with explosions and invasive post processing effects, that kinda stuff isn't for me. It wasn't back then either. I prefer anime or movies over random videos. I prefer games over watching stuff, unless it's vrchat games. Then I prefer watching stuff. I prefer socializing over games.
And at the bottom of everything is low quality content. I do not have a thirst for it that ever needs to be quenched. I just never developed a taste for brainrot.
So what I'm saying is, even though I didn't enjoy how things turned out, there is a very good chance I wouldn't have enjoyed how things would be if we managed to survive that. I would never feel like I actually belong. I would always find things off-putting. There is a good chance you would always enjoy or share that type of content, while on my end of things the ridiculous roleplay and self pity shit I was doing would have been temporary. And that is a difference. A lot of the things you found uncomfortable about me was temporary. The tmi stuff, or the art I look at, that was always going to be permanent. So you could make a case there perhaps. But none of my friends know me for that. Your pathological lying and such, I mean you can't fix shitty if it's literally a personality trait.
You do you bro, not my problem anymore. I don't know how many toes you think I've been going around and stepping on, but I'm not as problematic as you are. And everyone who was ever involved in your active attempt to harass me knows it.
I will never cease to drill home the fact that I have a certain pride that cares how people think about me, how people feel about me, and I fix my mistakes. Ineffective attempts at communicating are difficult to acknowledge, so I'll keep the number of times I have to to a minimum. My capabilities are harder to question when you're not there to frustrate or confuse people with memes or read expressions of emotion through favorites that you were never meant to actually read. I'm not the most anxiety friendly person out there when you monitor every little thing I do.
In the meantime the kinda stunts you pull off aren't even in the realm of consideration for me. Not because I can't learn to but because I straight up wouldn't fucking do it. And you were worried about me? Me doing what!? You've seen everything. Me doing what? Obsess over parasocial relationships whenever I'm lonely? I don't do that shit anymore.
I could be on my worst behavior and still not put a dent in your shitty legacy. Especially Luke with his Republican like strong arming semantically butchering everything literally up until it is opportunistic for him to pretend people are things they are not to fuel hatred and villainize people in ways they don't truly represent. The very essence of predatory behavior. I'm not going to vouch for myself when my heart was on a string but you want someone who will take all the pettiest reasons to take extreme actions on people without taking the slightest bit of effort to actually understand what is going on, there's fucking Luke. Some people know when to admit they're wrong, not him. You thought I had a power fantasy back then? I've yet to see anyone since then who acts as hostile as he does.
The thing about Luke is as long as he can make someone look bad, even for but a moment, he's done his job. Those aren't the actions of someone who actually gives a shit about what they stand for. It's just a means to an end. Those are the actions of someone who doesn't want to do their fucking homework. He doesn't need a good reason to hate someone, he just needs the nearest possible excuse.
I'm not expecting royal treatment for obsessing over someone and journaling about them, but sub tweeting someone and shitting on them whenever they act on it, you did that ever since we met. Who fucking does that?

I’m not talking about the comics, that’s why I only referred to it as the mcu. And I have seen eternals, that’s why I didn’t list him in the characters with Valkyrie. I’m trying to point out the nuances u missed and instead of understanding a different perspective, u spew defensiveness and reduce my point down to something trivial. You can personally go around saying it’s biphobic, but I do not think it is, and have my reasons and arg as previously listed. It’s another perspective very worth noting, and that your view isn’t the ultimate objectively correct view.
Okay, I'm gonna go a bit off topic and I don't expect you to read any of it because you've already made up your mind about me, but here we fucking go.
I understand your perspective. I just disagree with it. Because, personally, I think even mentioning that Loki is bisexual is a HUGE fucking deal. I don't need to see him make out with a dude in order to feel validated, okay? I grew up in the 1990s when movies involving queer characters were considered adult films that were not suitable for children or teenagers. They were R-rated simply because the main characters were queer. No one talked about sexuality unless it was point out how sinful it was and we did not even breathe the words gender unless someone was pregnant. Bisexuality was a footnote in the pages of books on LGBT rights.
That is why shows like Glee and movies like I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry were once considered groundbreaking, and why I personally love them. Granted Chuck & Larry would literally have no story if they had acknowledged bisexuality in the first place, but the thing is that bisexuality was too edgy for cinema back then. It would have made the movie less marketable because it would have alienated both biphobia queer people and cishet people. So when that movie was released and there was positive, laid back, funny representation of queer people -- representation that didn't paint queer people as pedophiles or murderers -- that's why me and my queer friends were ecstatic. Because even though the premise was flawed, it was a step in the right direction because it helped normalize queerness.
That's why I'm over the fucking moon just to see Loki come out even if he's in a straight-passing relationship. Especially because like I said, the MCU is currently under Disney's control and until the 2010's Disney has been notorious for only putting out queer-coded villains. Since Loki is a hero by the end of season two, that is a BIG fucking deal especially to queer people my age.
It doesn't matter whether or not you're talking about the comics, though, because like or not the MCU would NOT exist if it weren't for the comics that had been leftist reading material since 1941. So they are 100% relevant to this conversation.
The Sylki ship really upsets antis: People who think that just because something is taboo that makes it bad when in reality it's just a nod to the comics that the Loki series is based on. Specifically the 2011 arc Thor: Journey Into Mystery.
And bisexuals and queer people in general are not monoliths. We're gonna disagree on stuff. I've known I was bisexual since I was nine years old. I know from real life experience that bisexuals don't fall in love with everyone within a ten foot radius. Which is something I have been accused of in real life by insecure dumbasses. So, yes, I probably have some trauma I need to work through regarding that and if you've never encountered that kind of biphobia in real life then you are very lucky. That's why the idea of people perpetuating that myth is upsetting for me. That's not something I like to advertise because I think there is nothing stupider someone could do than advertise their triggers to an entire platform full of trolls, bigots, and bullies.
But I have nothing against Lokius shippers themselves. They can ship whoever they want -- that's the entire point of fanfictions and fan art and blah blah blah.
I don't seek out their blogs and harass them because of the ships they like. Or dislike.
When I see content I disagree with I just keep right scrolling and stay out of the comments so I don't say anything stupid or impulsive and start arguments like a petty child. This, however, is MY blog and I'm not going to censor myself for anyone. I'm allowed to say that something upsets me.
Now, I'm going to ask that you either stop sending me asks or else block me before I block you. Because this conversation has triggered my PTSD, and I'm not in the mood to continue it.
