Don’t let shuriken cook. EVER.
Tumblr media
Don’t let shuriken cook.
This is when they where baking a cake for hyperlaser. (They bought the cake instead)
I head cannon shuriken being the worst cook ever, you can’t take your eyes off of shuriken. Ever like he’s that bad at cooking.
(This was rushed I’m so sorry it looks horrible 😭💀)

Linecook!Scott Miller — idea from this post by @glossykissies <3
his obsession was obvious — tired eyes steady on the sizzling pan in front of him, casual as ever even while you hounded him over a dish you’d eventually realize you forgot to put in. cursing under your breath and apologizing to the cook who seemed unbothered apart from the scolding glance in your direction.
he’d argue over it with anyone else, call them some mean name unapologetically and borderline torment them for the rest of the shift, prioritizing other orders just so their tables would stiff them, ignoring every qualm or complaint they’d run in with. it wasn’t like they could really do anything about it anyway. he’s organized, fast, calculated, all results of a well-seasoned history in the business of burns and cuts and smoke breaks. too good to find a replacement for even if he was an asshole.
in the same way he kept his station clean — focused mind evident by the knives sharp and gleaming, sleeves neat and rolled up under the contrasting apron littered with the marks of hard work — he held out a sort of reverence for you. whether it was letting fries cook for a few seconds too long to pass them off to you after an offhanded comment about ‘not having time for breakfast that morning’, or just the subtle reassurance that someone was listening to you, he was warm in his own ways.
𓆩♡𓆪
the cold air hitting your skin after standing and serving for hours felt like both much needed relief and a slap in the face. catching yourself not un-pleasantly surprised to see Scott taking a break himself, finding respite on an old milk crate, cloud of smoke drifting away from him as he looked over.
“bad day?”
“bad week.” you corrected, hesitating for a second before shaking your head when he held out his hand, cigarette held loosely between his middle and pointer. a gesture he wouldn’t think to share with anyone else, the same one you’d declined times before.
you smoothed yourself down the wall behind you, sitting on the cold concrete and listening to the slow, quiet breaths of the man across from you. it was easy to talk to him about shitty customers, easy to get pissed off at him over something you’d forget all about at the end of the night, easy to watch him cleaning up from the spot he reserved for you on the counter, and even easier to sit with him and say nothing at all.
you sighed when you checked your phone, the time telling you your break was just about over. you let your head fall back and watched as Scott stepped on the remnants of his peace and walked over to you, hand outstretched for you once again.
“hungry?”

there are two aspects of jonathan’s character that seem to get widely ignored by the fandom, and i think it’s one of the reasons his character seems to be misunderstood a lot.
the first being that he was a parentified child (i think a lot of people ignore this because they aren’t willing to accept that joyce isn’t the best mother in the universe, but that’s a different conversation lol). he had to step in and help parent will after his dad left, and tried to intercept to make sure will didn’t see or suffer from the abuse he and his mum did. it’s one of the reasons he’s grown to withdraw from society and put people down. he couldn’t relate to other kids his age, so he secluded himself from them.
the second aspect of his character is that jonathan did, in part, parentify himself. he takes it upon himself to work more hours even when his mum has asked him not to. he’s refusing to go to college despite the fact that they’re clearly more comfortable in life now because he doesn’t know how to let go of the identity that he’s been shielding himself with for most of his life. and a big part of the reason he can’t drop that identity is because he’s convinced himself that it’s what separates him from everyone else. it’s what elevates him above them. he’s not a vapid high schooler that cares about what everyone thinks of them. he’s better than that. but if he loses his status as will’s big brother, who is he? (i think that’s part of the reason he jumps so quickly back into disparaging steve with nancy. steve represents everything jonathan has convinced himself he’s above, and even while he’s lying to nancy about going to college, mocking steve is some form of normalcy for him. even with everything going on in his life, at least he’s still better than steve, right?)
there are a lot of people within the fandom, even his fans, who solely identify jonathan by his position as will’s big brother, and arguably it is hard to examine his character beyond that both because jonathan himself identifies with it and because the duffers have been fairly lax in giving jonathan any other defining characteristics. but idk. i just think it’s kinda sad that even among people that love his character, jonathan never gets to grow beyond the role he was forced to take up as a small child.

Imagine Darrel Curtis not wanting kids after Ponyboy and Sodapop.
Imagine, Darrel Curtis, the spitting image of a once amazing father, all the right qualifications to parent a kid just fine, the image of masculinity, not wanting kids.
In the 1960’s no less, a time where the perfect American dream idealistic family was on the rise, and fast. The thought that you were put on this earth to have a happy and successful life, and the way to do that is to have a family. Be a father, or a mother. Raise a child.
When Darrel’s parents die he realizes that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
He’s shopping for groceries when he first realizes how much of a hastle it must be. He’s deciding what to buy, what will cost less to support his brothers when he sees a woman, much older than him, cradling a baby on her hip and a toddler crying behind her. ‘What a hastle..’ he thinks to himself. She’s holding two things in her hands, then reluctantly places one back on the shelf.
He realizes, that’s exactly what he’d just done.
Next it’s a dad at the park, at that small field he and the gang play football. He’s playing catch with his son, throwing a baseball back and forth with it landing firmly in their gloves.
He’s picking up the football tossing it around in his hands because Ponyboy had just left him to go talk to that Shepard kid he just saw walk in.
The father catches the ball one last time before the kid shouts at him, the father gives him a thumbs up as the kid discards the gloves and runs to go hang out with another group of boys.
He realizes, that’s exactly what just happened to him.
Finally, the mother and father with the two twins, a boy and a girl. They look fed up as the two pre-teens bicker in the middle of a parking lot. They’re fighting over the seat of the car they get to sit in, who called shot gun.
They completely disregarded their father who was already climbing into the front seat to sit next to his wife as the argument started. The husband and wife look at each other in annoyance.
He turns back to his truck to find Two-Bit with his feet on the dash, and a distraught looking Ponyboy and annoyed Sodapop in the back seat.
He turns back to the family, choosing to ignore the gang. The mother and father look like they’ve gone through this before, and they’re just about tired of it.
He realizes— things don’t change when you get ‘the dream.’
It’ll always be the same.
He won’t be happier struggling to afford groceries with kids when he already does that.
He won’t be happy being under appreciated by his son, because he already is.
He won’t be happy with petty arguments all the time, because there already are.
He’s not happy like this, he didn’t choose this. And if he had— he still wouldn’t be.

I don’t care what all those fluffy fics about Logan waking Wade up with pancakes say, that man cannot cook. I don’t think he ever really had a house, just kept moving from hotel to hotel, or spending the night in the woods with some bear. Sure he can gut and clean a fish no problem, but pancakes?? He will burn the house down. This man would set the stove on fire because he didn’t know you needed water in with spaghetti noodles. Campfire cooking only.

Still ducking hilarious to me that Zoro & Sanji began their beef because they thought the other was misogynistic and it came to a head of no return when Zoro felt his title of ‘Luffy’s specialest boi’ threatened by Sanji’s comment

What would it be like in the finale if c!sap or c!quackity confronted c!dream instead of c!tommy. Do you think we would have seen that “you just want friends” moment. I feel like c!sapnap possibly would understand reach that moment with c!Dream maybe better than c!tommy did but as for c!quackity I see no chance of that happening
The quick answer is no. I talked about it I think somewhere before, but it had to be Tommy. Tommy was the only one who could have brought that vulnerability out of Dream. And Tommy had to die and experience limbo from Dream’s pov for that all to happen. In other words, it was the ideal situation.
But let’s say it was Sapnap or Quackity. Let’s say they sent Q to stall Dream and let’s say Dream and Punz didn’t just kill him off the bat, but they allowed him to talk and then killed him and brought him back. What would have been Quackity’s reaction to Dream’s pov limbo?… honestly, I’m not entirely sure. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert on Quackity but here are my thoughts…
Well I don’t think he would be the selfless character to put himself in that situation in the first place, and Tommy also had an upper hand in the fact that his method of stalling was asking Dream why and for his pov. I imagine Quackity wouldn’t ask that though so wouldn’t experience the same limbo. So I imagine, Quackity’s likely method of stalling would be to accuse Dream and justify his own actions, maybe under the guise for Dream’s forgiveness, knowing that if he pissed off Dream then he’d just died and it wouldn’t really be a very good stalling tactic, would it? In other words, it likely wouldn’t be far off from his encounter in the Las Nevadas Finale or perhaps it would be similar to how he interacts with Wilbur.
Now let’s say regardless, Quackity experienced Dream’s pov limbo, then I don’t know, he’d probably use it in his manipulation and stalling tactics, maybe use it to mock Dream or turn Punz against Dream. Perhaps he uses the “you just want friends” to make fun of him - *read in condescending voice* “you say you want all this power and knowledge but really poor little Dream, just want friends” *theatric pout* … Whatever his reaction is it wouldn’t be to reach the understanding Dream and Tommy did, not just because Quackity is well… Quackity, but also because only Tommy could fix what he broke. Only Tommy had the power to change Dream, because it was him that ruined him in the first place, Q and Sam only got the leftovers of what Tommy had down by turning everyone against Dream, triggering that fundemental fear of being alone. It was Tommy and Wilbur that made Dream wonder how the freak did they show up and ruin everything, spurring his yearn for answers. Sapnap and Awesamdude were already in the server and Quackity is just the later infection taking over the wound Tommy left behind…
Having said that, it would have been interesting to see what Sapnap’s reaction would have been. I think like Quackity he wouldn’t be asking the questions of why like Tommy was to stall, because part of his problem is his assumption that he knows. His tactic probably would have been pulling Dream into a long fight and perhaps playing at Dream’s ego. Accusation and nostialga used as weapons - “remember me and you and George built the community house, and then you blew it up, Dream!”- If Sapnap experienced the same limbo, I wonder if it would have done anything more than remind Sapnap what he lost. Unlike Tommy, Sapnap did see Dream as good in the beginning so seeing his perspective at the beginning would not shatter any huge misconception for him. It probably would have just left him feeling angry. making the situation actually worse.
In other words, in order for Sapnap and Dream to reach a similar point as discduo, Sapnap needed a pov of more recent Dream to highlight his poor misconceptions, whether that’s of seeing Punz and Dream setting up the staged vault room, Dream learning about how everyone is trying to kill him, Dream being tortured in prison, or something especially something that highlighted an emotional part of Dream. But as for Q, though an argument could be made against it, I don’t think he wanted to make amends with Dream and unlike Sapnap and Tommy, I don’t think he was as oblivious to his actions of how they hurt people. I feel like he already saw Dream as a person and didn’t give a damn anyways. He did what he had to do, but he isn’t naive to how Dream feels. So there was no limbo that could change that. Perhaps more circumstances and character’s involvement could do something to change Q, but not just between him and Dream. (I think the situation with Purpled and Q would have been more the opportunity to reach that understanding like that of disc duo, but we already know how that turned out.)
So to summarize - Sapnap already knew Dream’s pov in the beginning so seeing it would not have radically changed anything. What he would need is an experience of something more recent Dream that shows Dream has emotions (maybe even specifically feelings for missing Sapnap) and isn’t some just crazy control freak. Then it would more so be feasible for a similar unfolding as Dream and Tommy had to happen. Quackity on the other hand, I don’t get the feeling had a misconception about Dream that needed to be changed so there was no Limbo that would matter. Maybe that’s wrong of me to say and judge Quackity so harshly, but I honestly don’t get the impression he sees Dream as less than human in a way that resulted in what we got in the disc duo finale…
Hopefully that answers your question or at least lays out my 2 cents. I think @elmhat has also talked similarly about alternative finale options so I recommend looking at what they had to say if you haven’t already.
