Les domaines Tumblr débarquent

Bien le bonjour, [tumblr] ! Comme toujours, vous êtes là, fidèles au poste, à faire vibrer ce site effervescent. C'est un véritable vivier d'artistes qui fait germer son talent créatif pour embellir les journées de la communauté. Aujourd'hui, nous vous annonçons l'arrivée d'une nouvelle fonction totalement optionnelle qui permet d'offrir à votre blog un joli domaine personnalisé.

Posséder son propre domaine peut ajouter une touche tout à fait classieuse à votre présence sur les Internets… mais ça peut aussi très bien être pour le fun et l'amour du lol. Dans tous les cas : ce serait du plus bel effet pour rayonner fièrement sur les réseaux, non ?

Voilà comment obtenir votre propre fief sur les Internets, directement depuis Tumblr :

Cliquez sur l'icône Compte et sélectionnez "Domaines" dans le menu déroulant.

Choisissez le domaine qui vous fait rêver (laissez quand même quelques ".ninja" pour les autres, merci d'avance ! 🥷).

Renseignez vos informations de contact et de paiement, et voilà ! Vous êtes à présent propriétaire de votre domaine personnalisé.

Quelques remarques :

Si vous possédez déjà un domaine personnalisé acquis via une autre plateforme, ce dernier continuera de fonctionner. En revanche, il ne sera à l'avenir plus possible de rattacher à votre blog un domaine acquis en dehors de Tumblr.

Nous avons l'intention d'implémenter les transferts de domaines (entrants et sortants) ainsi que le rattachement aux domaines payants.

L'acquisition d'un domaine personnalisé est, comme par le passé, facultative : l'accès à votre blog "[nomdublog].tumblr.com" reste bien évidemment gratuit !

Pour fêter comme il se doit ce moment historique, nous vous avons préparé une petite ristourne si vous étiez tenté par un domaine ".blog" :

La première année ne vous coûtera que 3,00 $ si vous souscrivez avant le 31 juillet, ou 5,00 $ si vous souscrivez entre le 1ᵉʳ août et le 31 décembre.

Le renouvellement annuel vous sera ensuite facturé 10,00 $ par an.

Thomas, there's a mouse in the house. But don't worry, Thomas, this isn't a problem, as this isn't just any mouse. This little pal is more than welcome in our house, as it happens. That is because this here is Mickey Mouse, and our smiley rodent friend is here to stay. 

Copyright on the 1928 Disney short animation Steamboat Willie has expired and entered the public domain. Tumblr is being delightfully Tumblr about it. Welcome aboard. *whistles*

Poseidon in Get in the Water, but Domain Expansion I had a silly idea

There was a time when I considered developing a Dracula/Winnie the Pooh story (with Sherlock Holmes and Van Helsing, too).

It would have been about Dracula acquiring land in the Hundred Acre Woods, with Pooh and Piglet being stand-ins for Renfield and Jonathan.

(Also, Dracula would have used honey barrels and bees to move his body across continents.)

Tho, now that Steamboat Rodent is in the public domain, I can't help but imagine how perfect he would be as captain of the Demeter.

fyi tumblr is fucking over people with custom domains

if you have a custom domain set, DO NOT UNTICK THE BUTTON on blog settings. you’re not allowed to add it back. (nope, that’s not mentioned anywhere on blog settings itself.) if you switch hosts and need to update nameservers, congrats! you’re fucked

custom domains were a feature that’s been available over a decade, but they’ve been unceremoniously removed. the idea of “legacy” domains is a joke

this is doubly egregious because they absolutely could be selling domains for people that don’t have one, while still allowing those of us that already had a domain to keep using ours. they also don’t even allow you to pay to use your own. so if someone bought a domain specifically to use on tumblr, if they accidentally untick the button then poof! they’re fucked because they can’t re-buy their own domain from tumblr 

it’s honestly pathetic how much of a transparent cash grab this is at worst, and how badly implemented this was at best. this is what happens when you accept incompetency as a modus operandi bc “lol quirky hellsite”

i highly, HIGHLY recommend not investing in this feature due to that incompetency and lack of transparency

Hello, [tumblr]. Look at you all here vibing. Some of you are out here providing essential services, like making art—and people happy in the process. Maybe you’re creating pfps for your followers. Or painting people’s OCs in intricate and enlightening detail. Or taking beautiful pictures of mushrooms. Or sharing your homestead life with the world. Or coming up with entire ARG universes for your followers to immerse themselves in. Maybe you’re making memes for that one show that existed for fifteen seasons and stopped airing years ago. Perhaps you’re simply fulfilling the age-old societal need of staying silly :3. Whatever it is you come here to do, why not make it official and claim your domain? 

Having a domain can add a little professional gleam to your online presence. It can be a funny little joke from you to you. It can also add an extra layer of this-is-what-this-is to your online persona.

Here’s how you get your very own slice of the internet, right here on Tumblr:

Click on your account icon and select “Domains” from the drop-down.

Register your info, pop in your payment details, and hey presto. You’re now an official Tumblr citizen. 

If you already have a custom domain purchased elsewhere, it’ll continue to work for now, but you will no longer be able to connect a new custom domain bought elsewhere to your blog.

Eventually, we will implement domain transfers (outbound and inbound) and paid domain connection.
