Can we all just imagine the teachers of Hogwarts betting on who Harry will end up with? Like you have your Harmony, Hinny, Rorry, and even Snape is throwing in Drarry eye fucks in class and then one day McGonagall bursts into the teacher's lounge and is like, "WHERE THE FUCK DID CHO CHANG COME FROM?!" and the whole room just explodes with rage and annoyance and Umbridge is being trampled because she has no idea what the hell is going on and all the teachers are breaking shit and hexing everything in sight.

Harry Potter and the Unlocked Runic
Another fabulous tale by the wonderful VashonBeader.
What happens when canon goes off the rails when Fawkes, upset with Dumbledore, takes Harry away for healing after facing the basilisk? This AU is what! A bit of adventure, a bit of mayhem, and dealing with death eaters. Certain death-eaters seek redemption while others plot to bring back the glory days. Canon characters added with a few OC's, add AU, shaken, stirred and served.
Harry Potter, T, English, Adventure & Family, chapters: 14, words: 124k+, favs: 708, follows: 799, updated: Oct 2 published: Aug 27, [Harry P., Hermione G.]

HP Fanfic: Regretfully Uncaring Chapter 46: A Melody of Lies
Keep in mind that this was originally a part of the previous chapter, so this starts with its feet on the ground running.
Pacing is a bit of an issue tbh, but I think it's important that this moves fast.
Preview:
And so, one by one, the Gryffindors crawled through the portrait hole, and into Gryffindor tower. Glass and rubble lay everywhere. Portions of the ceiling had collapsed, and dust filled the air.
"Lumos!" Ron shouted, holding the light high above his head as a beacon to those following him. "We'll move slow! Keep someone in view. Don't get lost!"
McGonagall fell into step next to Ron. "There is a point to be made that I should be holding that map and leading my students to safety," she observed, but then she turned to look up at him with a proud smile. "But of your brothers, you were always my favourite,"
Ron felt his cheeks heat, and an odd nostalgic pride swelled in his chest. "Thanks, Professor,"
"Anytime,"

Harry Potter for the ask game?
Favorite Male: Albus Dumbledore (He's my favorite character overall - so complicated and layered with so many shades of grey! Such a great sense of humor! So many great quotes!)
Favorite Female: Luna Lovegood (We'd totally be besties if we went to Hogwarts at the same time - especially because I'd be in Ravenclaw too. I had a couple friends in college who were a very similar flavor of dreamy-and-thought-of-as-odd-but-actually-super-cool.)
Favorite Pairing: Hmm...probably Romione, mostly because we got to see its slow development up close. I can't stand them being dumb jerks to each other and others in HBP, but in a way that makes it even more satisfying to see them mature into an actually good, supportive couple in DH.
Least Favorite Character: Dolores Umbridge (Isn't she everyone's?)
Most Like Me: .____________. *blank stare* I'm...not sure any of them are much like me at all. I identify with little bits and pieces of characters here and there, but they're often so much larger than life that I don't really see much similarity with boring ol' me. I mean...I would love to say that I'm like Griselda Marchbanks, the inspiration for my writing pseudonym, but...I'm not really. I guess if I have to pick someone, I'll go with Remus Lupin - particularly as he was in his Hogwarts years. A good student, amazed to discover that he actually has friends, too afraid to speak up or stop them from doing what he knows is wrong, for fear of being alone again. Yep. That could be me.
Most Attractive: Sirius Black (Please note I'm going from my imagination when reading the books, not from the movies. Gary Oldman is great and all, but...sorry, I don't find him particularly attractive. The Sirius who lives rent-free in my brain, on the other hand, especially pre-Azkaban....)
Three More Characters That I Like: Neville Longbottom, Nymphadora Tonks, Minerva McGonagall (to pick ones that I haven't mentioned at all yet)
Send along another series to ask me about!

The Phoenix Rises: Chapter 8
Pairings: Older!Remus Lupin x Fem!Professor!Reader
A continuation of the Charms of Fate series.
Series Masterlist
Plot Summary: Starting your third year at Hogwarts as the Charms professor proves to be difficult without having Remus by your side as you face new and irritating challenges at work, as well as joining a secret society.
A/N: Sorry for dropping off the face of the Earth for a bit. I started college and it's been hectic! Anyway, enjoy!
Warnings: Angst
________________________________
The next month was a whirlwind of chaos. Juggling between teaching and attending Order meetings and stakeouts, exhaustion became a constant companion. Even though you managed to spend weekends with Remus, it felt like your time together was slipping through your fingers. The increasing presence of Tonks added an extra layer of tension, her subtle advances persisting despite having dialed down from when you first met her. Remus, ever oblivious, remained untouched by her advances, making it challenging to direct any frustration toward him.
Work at Hogwarts had transformed into a dreaded ordeal. The atmosphere, once vibrant and engaging, had deteriorated into a nightmare, thanks to Dolores's oppressive presence. Her intrusive supervision loomed over everyone, making each day feel like an uphill battle. A sigh of relief escaped your lips as the last class concluded. The prospect of stepping outside for some fresh air became a beacon of solace in an otherwise overwhelming routine.
Navigating the corridors, you could sense a commotion ahead. Curiosity propelled you forward, and as you reached the courtyard, a disconcerting scene unfolded. Dolores and Sybill Trelawney stood at the center, surrounded by a sea of students. Sybill, tear-streaked and distressed, stood next to her belongings scattered at her feet. Dolores's stern expression communicated a harsh reality.
You quickened your pace, furrowing your brows at the unsettling sight in the courtyard. Students huddled in groups, whispering urgently, while Dolores Umbridge stood tall, a disapproving figure next to the distraught Sybil Trelawney.
"What's going on?" you asked a passing student, who looked at you with wide eyes.
"Dolores is kicking out Professor Trelawney! It's crazy!" the student whispered, their voice filled with a mix of shock and excitement.
Your heart sank, and you approached the scene, catching snippets of the conversation. Dolores's high-pitched voice cut through the air as she spoke to Sybill, her tone condescending and dismissive.
"You can't do this," Sybil stuttered out, her voice watery.
Dolores held up a piece of paper, "Actually, I can.
"Sybil Trelawney, your so-called 'prophecies' and vague predictions have no place at Hogwarts. Your services are no longer required," Dolores declared, a cruel smirk playing on her lips.
Sybill, on the verge of tears, pleaded, "Please, Dolores, you can't do this. I have nowhere to go!"
Dolores responded with a cold laugh, "Perhaps you should have thought of that before filling these students' heads with nonsense. Hogwarts needs serious educators, not charlatans."
The surrounding students watched in silence, some in shock, others in anger. You felt a mix of emotions – sympathy for Sybil and an intense frustration towards Dolores's unwarranted cruelty. As the crowd murmured in discontent, you couldn't help but think about the injustice unraveling before you.
The tension in the courtyard escalated as Dolores continued to gloat, but relief washed over you as Professor McGonagall arrived, a stern expression on her face. She approached Sybill, offering a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Shh, shh, my dear," McGonagall said, her voice soothing.
As the two women held each other, Dolores couldn't resist taking a jab. "Minerva, is there something you'd like to say?" she sneered, a malicious glint in her eyes.
McGonagall turned to Dolores, her lips thinning with restraint. "There is a great deal I would like to say, Dolores, but I'll save it for a more appropriate time."
Just then, the grand doors to the castle swung open, and Dumbledore strode out, his usually calm demeanor marred by a visible anger. The atmosphere shifted as all eyes turned to the powerful wizard.
Dumbledore, with a stern expression, turned to Professor McGonagall. "Minerva, would you please escort Sybil back inside?" he requested.
Sybil, still teary-eyed and emotionally overwhelmed, reached out to Dumbledore as she walked past him with McGonagall. "Thank you, Professor Dumbledore, thank you," she repeated, gratitude pouring from her voice like a balm for the wounds inflicted by Dolores Umbridge's harsh actions.
Dolores, undeterred, addressed Dumbledore, "Dumbledore, may I remind you that under the terms of Educational Decree Number 23, as enacted by the minister--"
Dumbledore cut her off, his voice stern, "You have the right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however, have the authority to banish them from the grounds. That power remains with the headmaster."
Dolores smirked, defiantly adding, "For now."
Dumbledore, not willing to engage further, turned away and addressed the students, his voice commanding, "Don't you all have studying to do?"
He walked away, leaving a trail of subdued murmurs in the courtyard. The weight lifted from your shoulders as you released a breath you hadn't known you were holding. The injustice seemed momentarily halted, but the lingering presence of Dolores Umbridge reminded everyone that darker times loomed over Hogwarts.
____________________________
The flames in the fireplace crackled as you sat on the couch in your living quarters, the trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron joining you. The atmosphere was tense, and Hermione voiced her frustration, "That foul, evil, old gargoyle. We're not learning how to defend ourselves. We're not learning how to pass our OWLs. She's taking over the entire school."
The radio is playing in the background and you can faintly hear the Minister's grating voice speak softly through the speakers. "Security has been and will remain the Ministry's top priority. Furthermore, we have convincing evidence…that these disappearances are the work...of notorious mass murderer Sirius Black."
You rolled your eyes, calling Fudge every bad name in the book. Caught in a slight daze, you jump when you hear a voice coming from the fireplace.
"Harry."
You and the three young students look towards the fire, Sirius's face emerging from the ember and soot.
"Sirius," Harry said, kneeling down. "What are you doing here?"
"Answering your letter," Sirius replied. "You said you were worried about Umbridge. What's she doing? Training you to kill half-breeds?"
"She's not letting them use magic at all," you retort, rolling your eyes once again.
Sirius let out a snort. "Well, I'm not surprised. The latest intelligence is that Fudge doesn't want you trained in combat."
"Combat?" Ron wondered aloud. "What does he think, we're forming some sort of wizard army?""
"That's exactly what he thinks. That Dumbledore is assembling his own forces to take on the Ministry. He's becoming more paranoid by the minute. The others wouldn't want me telling you this, Harry…but things aren't going at all well with the Order. Fudge is blocking the truth at every turn and these disappearances are just how it started before. Voldemort is on the move."
The weight of Sirius's words hung in the air, and you couldn't help but feel a bit panicked. Between this toad-faced twat and no nose Nancy, on top of lesson plans, grading, the Order, it was almost...too much.
As the trio and Sirius discussed the dire situation, you interjected, "We can't let Umbridge control the narrative here. Hogwarts should be a place of learning, not a breeding ground for fear and prejudice. We need to be prepared for what is inevitable."
Hermione nodded in agreement, "You're right professor. We need to find a way to resist her influence and keep learning. Knowledge is our best defense."
Ron chimed in, "And what about Dumbledore? Why isn't he doing anything about it?"
You sighed, "Dumbledore's hands are tied. Fudge has the Ministry wrapped around his finger. We need to figure out a way to defend ourselves and the school without relying on the official channels."
"It won't be easy, but we can't let them win," Harry replied.
You nodded, "Agreed. We'll need to be strategic and find allies within the school. Strength in unity." Before you bid your goodbyes to Sirius, you couldn't help but ask about Remus.
Sirius hesitated before answering. "He's okay. Misses you like crazy. He's been going on more missions. Sometimes alone, sometimes with..."
"With..?"
Sirius sighed. "Tonks. Well, he doesn't invite her, she kind of just tags along. I'm not sure what her intentions are, but I make sure she knows he's in a happy, committed relationship." You groaned in annoyance, ignoring three curious sets of eyes on you. Sirius turns his attention back to everyone. "I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But for now, at least, it looks like you're on your own."
And just like that, he was gone. You threw your head back against the couch, sighing deeply. Great. Another thing I need to worry about. A girl who doesn't know when to take a hint.
You feel tears well up in your eyes. You try to blink them back, but one falls down your cheek regardless of how much your eyelids flutter. You feel someone take your hand and you're surprised to sees it's Ron. You use your free hand to wipe you're face.
"Godric," you half laugh, half sob, "I'm sorry, I don't know what's the matter with me."
"It's okay Professor," is all he said. The four of you sat in silence, comforting each other.
_____________________________
"Dumbledore's Army?" you asked rather loudly, munching on chocolate sent from Remus, hunched over your desk, grading your students' homework. Everyone was out for the day, either going to Hogsmeade or lounging in their respective common rooms.
"Shh!" The trio hissed, casting a glance over their shoulder to the slightly ajar classroom door. You stop mid-chew, looking up at them, an eyebrow raised.
"We've been thinking, with Umbridge tightening her grip on the school, we need to do something. Dumbledore can't openly oppose her, but we can."
Hermione leaned in, her eyes reflecting the intensity of her thoughts, "We want to start a secret group, a defense class. Dumbledore's Army, to teach students how to defend themselves."
Ron, ever pragmatic, added, "It's not just about us. The whole school needs it. Especially since Dumbledore is gone."
You listened attentively, a mixture of concern and determination etched on your face. "Starting a secret society is risky, but I understand why you'd want to," you replied quietly. "How can I help?"
Harry looked relieved at your support, "We need a place to meet. We can't risk Umbridge finding out."
Hermione nodded, "And we need someone trustworthy to help with organizing and logistics. Dumbledore's Army has to stay off Umbridge's radar."
You set your chocolate and red pen down, leaning back into your chair. You noticed Ron trying to take a peek at whose work you're grading, snickering when he sees it's Fred's a giant red P in the top right corner. You scowl at him, pushing your papers in a desk drawer.
"I'll tell you this bit now," you begin, "you can't use this classroom." Harry began to open his mouth in protest. You held up a finger. "But, there is a room that might be able to aid you. It adapts to our needs and provides a level of security that other places can't guarantee. The--"
"The Room of Requirement," Hermione interjects in a whisper, "Of course." You smile slightly at her.
"Great. So where is it?" Ron asked.
You shook your head. "I don't know. It moves around the castle and only appears for those who is in need and actively seeking it."
"Guess we better start looking. Thanks Professor," Harry said, the three leaving your room.
"Be careful!"
____________________________
The weekend had finally arrived, and with it, the anticipation of seeing Remus at 12 Grimmauld Place. As you opened the door to the building, a sense of excitement filled you. However, the atmosphere inside was tense, and Sirius, appearing in the hallway, attempted to divert your attention away from the dining room.
"Hey there! What's the rush?" Sirius grinned nervously, blocking your path.
You tried to smile back, but your eagerness to see Remus outweighed any interest in Sirius's playful banter and you were starting to grow irritated. "Where is Remus? Is he in the dining room?"
Sidestepping his attempts at distraction, you pushed him aside and walked into the dining room. Your heart sank as you saw Tonks practically in Remus's lap, both of them laughing. Suppressing your frustration, you loudly dropped your bag on the table, drawing their attention.
Sirius followed you into the room, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Ah, I see you're back! Ready to join the fun, I see."
You shot him a look, silently asking him to drop the act, but he only raised an eyebrow in response.
Remus stood up, a radiant smile on his face. He was genuinely happy to see you. However, your excitement quickly turned to anger. "We need to talk," you gritted out. His smile faded, and he nodded, following you upstairs to his room.
Remus's expression turned concerned as he observed your demeanor. "Everything alright, love?" he asked softly.
You hesitated, feeling a surge of frustration mingling with hurt. "I'll explain in a moment," you replied tersely, not wanting to have the conversation in front of Tonks.
"What the bloody hell is that, Remus?" you demanded as soon as the door closed behind you. He looked genuinely confused, asking what you meant. "Tonks! What is going on with you and Tonks?"
Remus's brow furrowed in confusion. "Nothing, why do you think that?" he replied, genuinely puzzled.
"Because every time I see her, she's bloody all over you!" you retorted, your frustration boiling over. "I know we don't see each other as much as we used to," you continued, your voice tinged with a mixture of hurt and frustration. "Is it because she's younger, prettier?"
The words hung heavy in the air, each syllable laden with the weight of unspoken doubts and insecurities. Remus's expression flickered with a mix of surprise and hurt, his features contorted with a mixture of emotions.
"It's not about that," he started, his voice strained with the effort of trying to explain. "It's just…"
"Just what?" you interrupted, your tone edged with impatience. "Just that she's more convenient? That she's always around?"
Remus's gaze wavered, a flicker of remorse crossing his features. "It's not like that," he insisted, his voice tinged with regret.
"Then what is it like?" you demanded, your voice rising with frustration. "Because from where I'm standing, it looks like you're letting her take my place."
The hurt in your words was palpable, a tangible reminder of the distance that had grown between you. Remus's expression softened, a hint of understanding in his eyes.
"I never meant for you to feel replaced," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "You mean everything to me."
The sincerity in his words tugged at your heartstrings, stirring a whirlwind of conflicting emotions within you. Despite the hurt and doubt, a part of you still longed to believe him.
"I want to believe you," you admitted, your voice barely audible. "But it's hard when I see her always by your side."
The admission hung heavy in the air, the unspoken tension between you threatening to suffocate any semblance of resolution. Remus's expression softened, his concern evident. "I'm telling you, Y/N, it's not what it seems, believe me. Tonks is just a good friend," he reassured you, reaching out to touch your arm.
But your frustration only intensified as you confronted Remus about his obliviousness to Tonks's advances.
"Remus, how can you not see it?"
Remus's brows furrowed, his expression shifting from confusion to defensiveness. "What are you talking about?" he retorted, his tone tinged with irritation.
"I just told you what I'm talking about!" you shot back, your frustration bubbling to the surface. "I'm tired of seeing Tonks all over you, and you doing nothing about it."
Remus's eyes narrowed, his jaw tensing with frustration. "You're being ridiculous," he snapped, his voice tinged with annoyance.
"Ridiculous?" you echoed, disbelief coloring your words.
"You're being insecure," Remus retorted, his words cutting through the tension in the room. His tone was sharper than you'd ever heard it, and it stung more than you cared to admit.
"Insecure?" The word hung in the air, heavy with hurt and disbelief. "Is that what you think?"
Remus's expression softened for a moment, but it was fleeting. "Look, I don't know what you want from me," he continued, frustration evident in his voice. "Tonks is just a friend. Nothing more."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" you shot back, your voice trembling with a mix of anger and sorrow. "Because it doesn't."
Remus sighed, running a hand through his hair in exasperation. "I can't keep having this conversation with you," he muttered, his eyes avoiding yours.
"Then maybe we shouldn't be having any conversation at all," you replied, the words bitter on your tongue. With that, you turned and left the room, the weight of disappointment heavy on your shoulders.
As you stormed down the stairs, tears streaming down your face, Sirius intercepted your path, his concerned voice breaking through your turmoil. "Hey, wait a minute. What happened?" he asked, reaching out to touch your arm.
You recoiled from his touch, shaking your head in frustration. "Not now, Sirius," you muttered, your voice thick with emotion. Pushing past him, you continued your descent, your heart heavy with the weight of betrayal.
At the foot of the stairs, your eyes locked with Tonks's, who sat there casually sipping a glass of water. The smugness in her gaze only fueled your anger further. Every fiber of your being wanted to lash out, to retaliate against the perceived betrayal.
Instead, you bit back your initial impulse, the urge to dump the water over her head subsiding. With a bitter edge to your tone, you muttered, "He's all yours," before turning on your heel and storming out, leaving the bitter taste of resentment lingering in the air.

Pin Drop
Pairing: Dolores Umbridge x Minerva McGonagall Words: 2,197 You can also read this on AO3. This is a Pre-Marauders AU for the @hprarepairnet and @slytherdornet Summer Challenge and all the HP Pride Month Challenges! Note: This has a very bittersweet ending and implies a lot of internalized homophobia (regarding Dolores). However, Minerva gets her happy ending, is a PROUD Lesbian, accepts her identity, and realizes who she is is perfect. I hope everyone reading this can relate to that regarding their identity. Happy Pride Month. You are beautiful and fantastic no matter who you love. Also, I plan on writing a fluffier fic for Pride Month soon. I love you all very much. x
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Minerva had always heard the worst things about Dolores Umbridge, but she considered it all to be school-yard gossip. She tried not to participate in such immature activities; she was above that. But she knew part of it was true. Dolores had a Squib brother, and it seemed like she tried to ignore his existence.
That, in itself, pissed Minerva off. You did not abandon your family, especially for something they could not help. That would be like abandoning her father just because he wasn't a wizard like her mother. It was wrong. Your family was blood, and you loved who you loved. She figured a Slytherin would believe in that if any wizard from any house did, but apparently Dolores did not. So rather than approaching Dolores or even trying to make her acquaintance, she avoided her all together, just like the gossip involving her.
What Minerva didn't know was that Dolores wanted her to notice her more than anything, but that was wrong in itself, just like she believed her brother to be. Or that is what her mother would tell her, anyway. And after-all, Dolores believed in everything her mother said. She had no reason not to.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was the summer between her sixth and seventh year, and Minerva was happy to be back around Muggles. Reliving her Muggle-like childhood was always refreshing to her; she loved that she had two different worlds to escape to. So as she walked down the dirt path of her hometown, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She could smell the freshly mowed fields and the ice cream being served at her favorite parlor. Now, you see, Minerva was not the type to daydream. She figured it took her too far away from the practicality she valued most, but in that very moment, she let her mind drift away. She would later say that was her biggest mistake, but at the time, it was the best time she could have ever wandered off. Before she knew it as she walked with her eyes closed, she ran into another body. She opened her eyes quickly and started apologizing profusely. She was even more embarrassed when she realized she ran into Dolores Umbridge herself. They had never spoken two words to each other.
Dolores's blonde hair was blowing wildly in the wind as she held the hand of a younger boy. She had a stern look on her face as she looked up at Minerva. It was like she couldn't believe Minerva had the audacity to run into her, but when Dolores realized who she had ran into, her cheeks slightly flushed.
"I'm so sorry I got in your way, Minerva," Dolores told her, "I-I should have been paying more attention."
Minerva's eyes trailed down to the boy beside her. His green eyes were as vibrant as her mother's favorite jade necklace, and his hair was the color of the fresh corn the farm down the way grew every year. He was adorable, and it made her wish she had a younger brother of her own.
Minerva realized she still hadn't responded to Dolores and came back down to reality, "You shouldn't be apologizing," she told her, "I was the one walking with my eyes closed like an airhead."
She watched as Dolores smirked at her words. The little boy was now pulling at her arm and pointing to the ice cream parlor with his free hand.
"Dori, can we please go get ice cream now?" He begged.
Dolores sighed and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "Just a second, David, I'm talking to my-" But she paused. It was like she had no idea what to say, so Minerva finished her statement for her. To her surprise, it just rolled off the tongue.
"Friend. She's talking to her friend, David-"
Minerva watched as Dolores smiled, and it was the first time she had ever seen her look so genuine. It made Minerva's stomach flutter.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
That day, Minerva learned that Dolores in fact loved her brother, even though she had been told her whole life that his Squib nature was wrong. She could tell that part of Dolores believed it too, but she felt immense guilt for thinking so. Apparently, Dolores's mother always forced her out of the house with her brother when she was home during the summer. Her mother did not want to look at David, so Dolores would take him to Muggle villages to assimilate. Minerva thought it was ridiculous his mother could think he was bad; he was the sweetest boy she had ever met. If he had been a wizard, he would have been a Hufflepuff, for sure.
They spent the whole day together as Minerva showed them around her hometown. She even held David's sticky hand in her own as they frolicked through the fields and laughed for hours. She could feel Dolores's eyes on her the whole time. Sometimes when she caught her looking, Minerva even blushed. It was very unlike her.
At the end of the day when Dolores insisted they needed to leave, Minerva invited her to come again tomorrow.
And Dolores did. She did for the rest of the summer. Sometimes with David and sometimes without. Minerva had a new friend in the most unexpected person. That's why it was tragic when it came to an unexpected end.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was the week before they were to go back to Hogwarts. Dolores was the only one to come and visit Minerva that day, and Minerva found herself missing David. But only a little bit, and because it was only a little bit, she felt guilty. She wanted to spend more and more time alone with Dolores, but she didn't know why. Or she didn't want to admit why. She wasn't sure which reason it was.
They were sitting in their favorite field and watching the sun go down. Dolores was so close to Minerva that their shoulders were almost touching. Minerva felt like she could barely breath and tried to swallow.
"This has been the best summer of my life," Dolores admitted, "It has felt so nice to get away, and David has appreciated you so much. It is just-"
"Just what?" Minerva asked.
Dolores took a deep breath and turned her head slightly to look Minerva in the eye. Her eyes were hazel and nothing like her brother's eyes, but they were the exact same shape and showed the exact same innocence. Minerva found that endearing.
"I-I don't know if what I am feeling is acceptable," she admitted, "I just feel so-"
Minerva interrupted her, "I feel it, too."
Dolores looked down at their hands as Minerva intertwined them, and as the sun set, Minerva leaned forward to press their lips together. Dolores didn't pull away, but Minerva could feel her breath quicken. The kiss was gentle and innocent; it was the kind of kiss Minerva always dreamed of as being her first. She had never been interested in dating before, but now she understood what everyone was talking about. It just wasn't with the kind of person she ever expected.
As she pulled away, she looked at Dolores's flushed cheeks and the blonde fly-aways surrounding her face. Minerva smiled and felt at ease.
"If that wasn't acceptable," Minerva told her, "Then I don't think anything in this world should be acceptable."
Dolores didn't answer her with words, instead, she leaned forward to kiss Minerva again.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
After that night, Minerva did not see Dolores again until they boarded the train to Hogwarts. But Dolores didn't try to talk to Minerva, instead, she ignored her. Rather than letting this worry her, Minerva let it anger her. It wasn't until the next day after breakfast that Minerva approached her.
"So," she stated as she walked up to her, "I guess we're going to forget any of that happened? That this whole summer didn't exist?"
Dolores didn't say anything as she packed her books into her rucksack.
"Are you really going to ignore me?" Minerva asked.
Dolores finally answered her and looked her in the eye, "You ignored me for years. Why does it make a difference now?"
Minerva felt as though she was punched in the gut, but she tried not to show it. However, she failed, because she could see the slight glitter in Dolores's eye for making her point.
"I didn't think so," Dolores replied, and before Minerva could say anything else, Dolores strode away to her next class.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
A month went by and Minerva had not tried to talk to Dolores, but now she felt ashamed. She felt ashamed for what she felt when she shouldn't, so she decided to confront her again once and for all.
Dolores was sitting by the lake and looking out at the water. Her bare toes were in the sand as the chilly October breeze ran through her hair. Minerva wondered how she wasn't cold, but she let that thought slide. She sat down next to her, and Dolores didn't say anything. Instead, she just grabbed her hand.
"I-I thought you wanted to act like nothing happened?" Minerva asked her quietly.
Dolores didn't look down at her, but she replied, "I do. I have to, I just want to have one more minute."
And so they did have one more minute that night, and many minutes after that night in secret. It wasn't until the end of the year that it truly came tumbling down. It was when Minerva found out the truth about David that it was over.
"Were you going to tell me your mom sent David away to an institution or were you just going to conveniently keep that to yourself?" Minerva asked her.
She was taking deep breaths and wanted to avoid the gossip, but it was big news when a Squib finally got sent away. She didn't want to believe it could be true.
Dolores didn't answer her at first and continued to fix her hair in the bathroom mirror.
"You love your brother. He is a sweet boy. You-you can't let this happen to him."
"He needs help," Dolores finally offered, "This might be his only chance to possibly get some magic out in the-"
"He doesn't have magic!" Minerva yelled, "And you and your wretched mother have to accept that! Just like you have to accept that you're in love with me!"
A long silence lasted between them; Minerva swore she could hear a pin drop.
"I feel it," Dolores whispered, "But-but I can't accept it and I won't accept it. It-it isn't right."
"That's what your mother says," Minerva pleaded, "Not what you actually believe. It's just like with David she-"
But Dolores interrupted her by kissing her. She kissed her so hard that Minerva's back hit the front of the bathroom stall. As Minerva tried to deepen the kiss, Dolores pulled away from her.
"I-I wish it could be different," Dolores confessed, "But it can't. My mom will never accept it, just like she won't accept my brother. I'm sorry. I love you, but love isn't enough."
Minerva tried to protest, but Dolores gave her one last tearful look before she ran out of the bathroom.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
They didn't talk again after that night, not until many years later at a reunion. This was many years before their feud started at Hogwarts during Harry's days. The hatred between them bubbled as Dolores ignored her feelings that night once again. You could never hate someone so much unless you loved them. That's what Minerva believed; that's what she knew when she saw that her patronus was a cat just like Dolores's. But Dolores never tried to reach out after that night of yelling and denial, and that made Minerva hate her even more. Especially when she found out she never did help her brother David and became the wretched person her mother raised her to be.
Loving someone was never enough to save someone from their own darkness that was inside of them. That's what Minerva learned that year. It was bad for her to daydream, so she no longer did. She looked at what she had in front of her and accepted the truth.
But she would always remember what it felt like to have her first love, and as she looked at Pomona as the Battle of Hogwarts ended, she was grateful she found love again. She knew the type of love she felt for women was not wrong, and she pitied Dolores that she could never understand that truth. Dolores would always be the one that got away, but at least Minerva never lost herself like Dolores did and became who she was destined to be. A woman in love with another woman. A mother to her students. A teacher. A friend. A woman who always did what was right.
Minerva tried to remember the blonde girl with the empathetic hazel eyes, but those memories faded with time as the truth became clearer. All she knew was that her passionate hatred was once fueled by love, and that was okay, because it made Minerva realize who she was.

In some time during fifth year, Snape somehow acquired a black kitten with grey eyes. Here are some headcanons based on that.
It’s nicknamed “deplorable” or “idiot” and “Hemlock”
The reason for the above nicknames involve the kitten meowing very loudly whenever Umbridge does her horrid “hem hem” & Snape goes “she thinks ur calling her by her name—so sorry”
Other students swear that they can hear a soft meowing as Snape pass by sometimes & it’s become sort of a trend to listen for it in his presence
He’s suddenly requested at more teachers’ meetings than normal b/c all the other professors want that dose of serotonin
That’s the only pet allowed in the Potions classroom b/c it’s well behaved—until Umbridge shows up for inspection
He had to ask McGonagall for a spell to rid of cat hair after a particularly bad day
The kitten is a sleep police, sleeping on his desk instead of the nice couch, and preventing him from doing work
It also smacked him in the face once trying to catch a fly—he was left with a scar of shame
The kitten was Celaena—her animagus form
Additional Headcanon
McGonagall was aware of the above fact—in fact, the two had several missions together to make Umbridge’s life a living hell

The American
Pairings: Fred Weasley x Slytherin!Reader [Platonic] , George Weasley x Slytherin!Reader [Semi-slowburn]
Summary: A new transfer student is welcomed to Hogwarts during the politically tense times that have befallen the wizarding kingdom. And despite their better judgement and the new (and frankly horrifying) DADA teacher, the twins can’t seem to get her out of their mind
Word Count: 2.5 k
Warnings: Umbridge (I feel like that’s enough said for that one), anxiety mentions, swearing (light. maybe one f-bomb), Ron being a lil prejudiced against Slytherins
Next >>
A/N: I took a small liberty with the last name just to help the story flow better, so I’m sorry if that’s upsetting. I am also apologizing ahead of time if I wrote the twins ooc, it’s my first time writing a fic for them! [Not beta read, any mistakes are mine and mine alone]
You took a breath, hands smoothing down the sides of your skirt, twisting nervously in the folds. You could do this. Nerves ran throughout your body, making it feel like it was humming with energy as you shifted on your feet. You could do this. The professor next you, McGonagall if you remembered correctly, placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. You forced a small smile, turning your face back to the set of great wooden doors in front of you. You could barely hear a thing that was being said, you just knew that you would be introduced after the new teacher and then sorted into your house.
“In other news,” a voice raised from behind the doors and you looked up sharply. “We have a transfer student joining us this term. We have decided that it would be best for everyone if her sorting ceremony were as public as the first years, so please. Join me in welcoming Y/N Jones.”
The hand left your shoulder and you looked up, taking in another nervous breath as you watched McGonagall place her hand on one of the doors, nodding to you to motion that it was time before pushing the doors open. You forced your face to remain neutral, and straightened your back as you walked alone up to the Headmaster in the front of the room.
The sound of your shoes hitting the stone floor caused your anxiety to rise again, but you pushed it down, forcing yourself to keep your head high and act like you knew you belonged here. You stopped in front of the stool placed at the top of the steps and turned, sitting down on it and effectively silencing the whispers that had been floating around the Great Hall.
The headmaster (god, what was his name again?) raised a dusty old witches hat and placed it on your head. The brim of the hat slipped over your eyes, and an older sounding voice resounded in your head, mulling over where to place you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fred and George had fully expected this year’s welcoming feast to go like all of the others. Cheer when the first years were sorted (booing when it was into Slytherin, of course), boo again when the new DADA teacher was announced, and then gorge themselves as they planned the perfect way to sneak puking pastilles into Draco Malfoys food (it never worked). However, they were both pleasantly and utterly surprised when Dumbledore announced a new transfer student. Hogwarts had never really had a transfer student, at least while they were there.
Fred turned to George and elbowed him slightly, a half smirk on his face. “Maybe we’ll have another gullible second year to talk into insulting Snape, eh George?”
George grinned as he swallowed a quick swig of pumpkin juice. “Maybe so Freddie.”
However, as the doors to the Great Hall opened and you walked through, all thoughts of pranking left the boys’ heads. You carried yourself like you were the only one meant to be here, and like the others were new students embarking on your domain, and it drew the boys’ full attention. They only remembered to pick up their jaws when you sat down on the stool to be sorted.
Ron, who had noticed their strange reaction, tried to get their attention through a poorly hushed whisper, but to no avail. The twins were too focused on what house you were going to be sorted into.
It felt almost foolish to hope that you would be a Gryffindor, but hope they did. They waited with baited breath as the Sorting Hat took its sweet, sweet time. After what felt like an eternity, the hat had finally reached it’s verdict.
“Slytherin!” The voice rang out through the Great Hall, and the Slytherins cheered as their flag was momentarily displayed on the walls of the Hall. The twins felt their heart sink as they kept their eyes on your form, watching you as you walked over to the Slytherin table and sat down in between the first years and older house members.
“Oi! Fred! George!” Ron exclaimed, exasperated as he gave up on catching his brothers attention. “Bloody hell! It’s like I don’t even exist!”
Next to him, Hermione giggled knowingly, shaking her head at Ron.
“Oh? Have you got something to say now?” Ron asked, turning his face towards Hermione.
She sighed and shook her head again. “You really are incredibly dense sometimes Ron.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You had spent the remainder of the feast politely talking to your fellow house members, answering their questions and asking some of your own. It seemed that they were all either in awe due to your transfer, or in disbelief once they found out that you were American. Quite honestly, you couldn’t blame them. Yet your anxiety kept you from speaking about it, and instead had you hesitantly picking at the comfort food that had magically appeared on your plate once you had sat down.
After the feast was done, you were escorted to your room and introduced to your roommates by a prefect whom had asked you multiple times (despite your constant assurances) if you needed a tour of the castle itself. You settled into your room quite easily, introducing yourself to the girls and exchanging pleasantries before unpacking your trunk and getting your belongings situated. One girl, Pansy you believed, seemed particularly kind to you, and you made a mental note to get to know her better.
Before you knew it, you were fast asleep in your bed, wrapped in the comfortable blankets that had been provided and assuring yourself that tomorrow would yield only positives.
~~~~~
The next day had indeed started out well. You woke up on time and were able to find your classes easily, and you were also praised by Professor Sprout for your extensive knowledge in Herbology. However, things took a small turn for the worst went you entered Defense Against the Dark Arts.
The first thing you noticed was the teacher in the front of the room, watching with beady eyes as students casually found their way to desks and friends. Her monochrome outfit looked awful, having the likeness of a pattern you swore you saw on your grandmother’s couch once, and had given her a look that, quite plainly, reminded you of a toad.
The second thing you noticed was the fact that the seats were filling up, and quickly. Scurrying towards the closest open seat, you ended up next to a girl with unruly hair and a red and yellow tie. She smiled kindly at you as you sat down, and you returned the action before returning your eyes to the front of the room.
“Ordinary Wizarding Level Examinations, more commonly known as O.W.L.S.” The teacher spoke, seeming to punctuate every word of her sentence with a pause as the blackboard behind her wrote what she had spoken.
“Study hard, and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be, severe.” She smiled, a tight lipped sort of smile that let everyone know she was faking it. With a wave of her wand the stacks of books behind her began to float down the aisles, distributing themselves amongst the students.
“Your previous instruction on this subject has been, disturbingly, uneven.” You looked down as a book placed itself on your desk, pulling a face as you saw the cover and began to flip through it.
“But you’ll be pleased to know that from now on you’ll be following a carefully constructed, Ministry approved course of defensive magic.” The girl next you did the same, and raised her hand.
“Yes?” the professor called on her.
“There’s nothing in here about using defensive spells?” she said, the confusion evident in her voice and mirroring the confusion on everyone else’s faces.
“Using spells?” The professor laughed, walking closer towards your table. “Well I can’t imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom!”
“We’re not gonna use magic?” a redhead boy piped up, turning the book over in his hands.
“You’ll be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way,” the professor replied, her annoyingly ‘girly’ voice already seeming to get on your nerves.
“Well what use is that?” A brunette boy who looked shockingly similar to Harry Potter asked. “If we’re going to be attacked it won’t be ‘risk free’.”
“Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class!” The professor said, her nerves evidently already frazzled as she raised her voice. The brunette boy sat back in his seat (No seriously. He could make money as a Harry look-alike) , obviously on edge as the professor took a moment to turn around and address the class again.
“It is the view of the ministry, that a theoretical knowledge would be sufficient to get you through your examinations which after all, is what school is all about.”
“And how are theories supposed to prepare us for what’s out there?” the brunette boy asked again, sharing a look with his table partner who had spoken up earlier.
“There is nothing out there dear,” the professor replied, and at this, you couldn’t hold back a scoff. The professor whipped her head in your direction, and a few classmates turned to look at you.
You looked up and swallowed thickly, your eyes meeting the professors. “I mean, I could be wrong, but wasn’t there a basilisk within the school a few years ago? That kind of seems like something ‘out there’.”
The professor stuttered, and a few eyes widened around the classroom. “Ex-cuse me?” she said, taking a step towards your desk.
“I’m just saying that there are certain undeniable dangers. Especially around this school, it seems.” You paused, hands fiddling with your robes under the table in a nervous habit that you hadn’t quite seemed to kick just yet.
“Lying, Miss Jones, will get you nowhere.” The professor fired back, a tight-lipped smile plastered on her face.
“She’s not lying,” the brunette fired back. “There are present dangers out in the world. Like, oh, I don’t know. Lord Voldemort.”
The entire class went silent at his comment, some turning to glare at him with barely disguised hatred and others suddenly finding their desks and books to be the most interesting thing in the room.
The professor, after taking a moment to recover of course, changed directions in order to walk towards the brunettes desk. “Now that, is a lie.” She replied in a dangerously low tone.
“Oh, so I suppose that Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord then?” he replied in an accusatory manner. Gasps rose up from the class, disgust now evident in most of your classmates faces.
“Cedric Diggory’s death was an unfortunate accident-”
“No it wasn’t! Voldemort killed him! I watched it -”
“That is enough Mr. Potter!” The professor yelled, losing her composure suddenly. The dead quiet settled over the class again as she smoothed down her skirt. “Potter, Jones, please see me for detention after classes today.” She said simply, before turning around and starting the days lesson as if the entire exchange had never occurred.
You sat at your desk, absolutely dumbfounded. You had had no intention of speaking up in class, much less saying something apparently so controversial that it warranted a detention. Yet here you were, in your now decidedly least favorite class with your most recently least favorite teacher. How did you manage to get yourself into these situations?
The brunette next to you looked over with a small look of sympathy whilst your fellow Slytherins shared a not so subtle haughty laugh in the corner of the room. You sunk low in your seat, making up your mind indefinitely that speaking in class was completely off the table now.
Thankfully, the class passed without any further altercations, and you nearly sighed with relief when it ended. You gathered up your items, shoving the new (and frankly quite stupid) DADA book into your bag and turning to make a beeline for the door.
The brunette who had offered her sympathy earlier in the class spoke before you could leave the desk though. “Thank you for speaking up. For Harry I mean. Not a lot of people would do that, especially now.”
You looked up, slightly confused. “What do you mean?”
She returned your look. “Did you not hear?”
“Hear about what?” The two of you had slowly made your way to Umbridge’s door, lest you incite her wrath twice in the same day.
The brunette was about to answer when the redhead who had spoken earlier wrapped his arm over her shoulder in a protective matter. “Is this Slytherin bothering you Hermione?” he asked, narrowing his eyes at you in what you assumed was his best glare (honestly it wasn’t very good).
You furrowed your eyebrows and took a step back. “Excuse me?”
“I said,” he stepped in front of Hermione and crossed his arms, “is this snake bothering you?”
“Oh honestly Ronald!” Hermione cried out from behind him, grabbing his arm and pushing him out of the classroom door. She threw an apologetic smile over her shoulder at you before turning back to Ron and smacking the back of his head.
You stifled a laugh at the look on his face and shook your head as you headed the opposing way down the corridor, not entirely paying attention to your surroundings as you double checked your schedule for the third time that day.
Moments later you were sprawled out on the corridor floor, having collided with two people who had apparently been running at breakneck speed. You groaned and picked yourself up to a sitting position, looking over at the other two boys currently thrown over one another. Great. More redheads.
Despite your better judgement, you gently kicked one of them with your foot after picking yourself fully up off of the floor. “Hey, are you guys alright?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fred and George were royally screwed. Fucked, if you will.
They hadn’t planned to quite literally body slam you in the corridors whilst running away from Filch after setting off dung bombs in his office, it had just. . . happened. And quite unfortunately, at that.
George rolled over and off of his brother as he felt your foot kick him, looking up at you with what he hoped to Merlin was a dashing smile as he suppressed whatever copious amounts of pain that he was feeling in that moment. “Barely, but I suppose we’ll manage. Right Freddie?” He asked, looking down at his brother who was still planted face first into the stone floor.
“Speak for yourself oh brother dearest,” he sarcastically replied as he peeled himself from the stone.
“Weasley’s!” Filch yelled from down the corridor, running full speed (or as well as he could) towards them, students wrinkling their noses in disgust and turning away as he passed them.
“And that,” Fred said, offering George a hand up, “would be our cue to leave.”
Both twins offered you crooked grins, George even going as far as saluting you, before they dashed off through the corridors, quite possibly traveling faster than they had when they’d ran into you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You watched them, thoroughly amused despite being tackled, and bent down to pick up the paper schedule that had fallen from your hands. As you reached down, you noticed a larger and much thicker parchment next to yours. You grabbed both and looked closer at the thicker parchment, watching with amazement as what seemed to be a map of the school faded away into nothing.
You looked back up at the boys just in time to see them turn a corner and disappear from sight. It appeared as though you’d have to return their tricky map to them another time.
Smiling at the thought of interacting with the chaotic individuals again, you headed off towards Divination.
The Phoenix Rises: Chapter 3
Pairing: Older!Remus Lupin x Professor!Fem!Reader
Series Masterlist
Plot Summary: Starting your third year at Hogwarts as the Charms professor proves to be difficult without having Remus by your side as you face new and irritating challenges at work, as well as joining a secret society.
____________________________________________________
The staff room at Hogwarts was a haven of tranquility on a Saturday afternoon, the air filled with the soothing aroma of freshly brewed tea. You and Professor McGonagall found respite in the comfortable chairs, a welcome break after days of relentless preparation for the upcoming school year.
The two of you engaged in a relaxed conversation, catching up on each other's lives. It felt comforting to share stories and laughter with a friend amidst the bustling chaos of the magical school. As you sipped your tea, you couldn't help but glance out the window, noticing a short lady in pink following Dumbledore around like a shadow.
Curiosity piqued, you turned to Professor McGonagall and asked, "Minerva, who's that short lady in pink? She seems to be trailing Dumbledore everywhere."
Minerva rolled her eyes with a knowing expression. "That, my dear, is Dolores Umbridge. She works in the Ministry and has been appointed to monitor Hogwarts, reporting directly to Cornelius Fudge."
Your eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Monitor Hogwarts? What for?"
Minerva sighed, her tone carrying a hint of annoyance. "Fudge believes there's a need for tighter control over the school. Dolores is here to ensure everything is in order and to report back to him. Tread lightly around her; she's a very biased and tricky woman."
Taking a cautious sip of tea, you couldn't help but ask, "Why is she so biased and tricky?"
Minerva leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "She has a rather unfavorable reputation for her discriminatory views. Be mindful of what you say and do. She's already asked to interview all of the staff after the welcoming feast."
You raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Interview us? For what?"
Minerva's lips tightened into a thin line. "To assess our suitability, I suppose. Just play the part and answer her questions as diplomatically as possible. Dolores isn't someone to be underestimated."
You nodded, absorbing the cautionary advice. "Noted. Any specific tips on dealing with her?"
Minerva leaned back, a twinkle in her eyes. "Just keep your responses neutral and avoid any confrontations. Oh, and she doesn't take well to anyone associated with werewolves."
You furrowed your brows in confusion. "Why's that?"
Minerva sighed, "Well, she's not the most open-minded person, and she holds some rather outdated beliefs. Apparently, she's not a fan of your association with Remus. Calls him a 'dangerous creature.' Terrible woman, that Umbridge. Has too many bloody cats."
You couldn't help but chuckle at Minerva's colorful description of Dolores Umbridge. "Too many cats, huh? I'll keep that in mind."
The laughter subsided, and Minerva's expression softened as she shifted the conversation. "Now, my dear, tell me about Remus. How's he doing?"
A shy smile played on your lips as you shared, "He's doing well, Minerva. Though, I haven't heard from him in a while. I miss him."
Minerva's eyes softened in understanding. "Long-distance can be challenging, but I'm sure he's thinking of you just as much. You two make quite the pair." You thank her softly, finishing the last bit of your tea. Minerva takes out her pocket watch, gasping slightly.
"Jiminy Cricket! Is that the time? I'm afraid I must leave you here, dear," she states, cleaning her mess up rapidly.
After bidding farewell to Professor McGonagall, you made your way back to your room, contemplating the looming encounter with Dolores Umbridge. The hallways echoed with the quiet murmur of distant conversations, creating an eerie ambiance as you navigated through the dimly lit corridors of Hogwarts.
As you turned a corner, you found yourself face-to-face with Dolores, too soon for your liking. Her distinct pink ensemble seemed to cast an unnatural glow in the subdued lighting, and her sharp gaze fixed upon you with an intensity that made your skin crawl. Suppressing a sigh, you plastered on a polite smile.
"Good evening, Professor Umbridge," you greeted, your tone carefully neutral.
Dolores regarded you with a scrutinizing look, her thin lips forming a disapproving line. "Ah, the Charms professor. I've been meaning to speak with you."
"Of course, Professor Umbridge. How may I assist you?" you replied, maintaining an air of innocence.
Her eyes narrowed as she began to scrutinize you more closely. Dolores pursed her lips, choosing her words with a subtle venom. "Yes, well, I've heard interesting things about your… connections. Particularly a certain individual with a, shall we say, peculiar condition."
You remained composed, refusing to show any sign of unease. "Connections, Professor? I'm not sure what you're referring to."
A sly smile crept onto her face. "Oh, don't play coy. Associating with those who carry certain… burdens can be quite damaging, both personally and professionally. Wouldn't you agree?"
Your smile remained unwavering as you replied, "Professor Umbridge, I believe in judging individuals based on their character and actions. Labels and assumptions often lead to misunderstandings."
Her gaze bore into you with an unspoken challenge. "Well, my dear, you may find that your choices have consequences. Especially when it comes to mingling with those who are, let's say, less than reputable."
You tilted your head, maintaining your poised demeanor. "Thank you for your concern, Professor Umbridge. However, I'm confident in my choices and their integrity. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have preparations for the school year to attend to." With that, you gracefully stepped past Dolores Umbridge, leaving her with a forced smile and a subtle sense of frustration.
Before you could get too far, she called after you. You stop, slowly turning around. "Yes?" you asked.
"I trust you've been made aware that I'll be conducting interviews with the staff after the welcoming feast tomorrow. It's a routine procedure to ensure everything is in order," Dolores said, an underlying edge to her tone.
You nodded, keeping your response succinct. "Understood."
Dolores Umbridge's eyes lingered on you for a moment, as if searching for something more. "Good. It's imperative that everyone cooperates fully. We wouldn't want any… complications, would we?"
Maintaining your composure, you gave a tight nod. "Of course, Professor Umbridge. I'll be prepared for the interview." Quickly rounding the corner, you felt a scowl replace the fake smile on your face. "Bitch," you muttered, stepping into your room.
Remus and Tonks apparated back to 12 Grimmauld Place, their mission for Dumbledore successfully completed. The two had been tasked with scoping out suspicious Death Eater activity and gathering any possible intel. The air was tense as they entered the dark and dusty old house, still haunted by the memories of the past.
Tonks, her hair morphing into a vibrant shade of turquoise, yawned and stretched as she plopped down on a worn, black couch. "Well, that was fun, wasn't it?" she said with a grin, giving Remus a playful nudge. Remus, ever the serious one, merely nodded in agreement, still processing the information they had gathered.
Remus wearily dropped his bag on the table, running a hand through his tousled hair. Tonks, with her characteristic energy, turned to him, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I must say, I do enjoy the thrill of a dangerous mission," she said with a playful smirk, her hair changing colors as she spoke.
Remus managed a tired smile, "Yes, well, it was necessary. Hopefully, we've gathered enough information for Dumbledore."
Tonks leaned in closer, her voice lowering suggestively. "Maybe we could celebrate our successful mission later, just the two of us."
Remus, completely engrossed in sorting through the collected documents, didn't catch the underlying tone. "Hmm? Oh, yes, perhaps. But I need to get this report to Dumbledore first."
Tonks sighed dramatically. "Always the responsible one, Lupin."
"Well, well, look who's back from their exciting adventure. Meanwhile, I've been stuck here with nothing but the portrait of my dear mother for company," Sirius quipped as he made his way to Remus and Tonks, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Remus rolled his eyes at Sirius's dramatics. "Sirius, you know the risks. We can't have you out there in public."
Tonks, ever the lively presence, chimed in. "Oh, come on, Sirius. You've got Kreacher for company too. That's something, right?"
Sirius shot her a mock glare. "Kreacher is not exactly my idea of stimulating conversation."
Remus smirked. "Maybe you could stimulate yourself by organizing your sock drawer. I hear it's a thrilling activity."
"Bugger off, Moony."
Remus and Tonks snickered at a scowling Sirius before Tonks announced her departure. "Well, duty calls, boys, I'll see you later," she said, her eyes lingering on Remus hunched over some parchment.
As Tonks left for her meeting, Remus leaned back into his chair with a sigh. Sirius, who had been observing the entire interaction from the shadows, couldn't help but chuckle. "Mate, you do realize Tonks is practically throwing herself at you, right?"
Remus looked up, eyebrows raised in confusion. "What do you mean?"
Sirius rolled his eyes. "Honestly, Remus, she's flirting with you. Big time."
Remus chuckled, shaking his head. "Nonsense. She's just being herself."
Sirius leaned in, a mischievous grin on his face. "Well, someone needs to tell that oblivious bloke that our dear Nymphadora is head over heels for him."
Remus rolled his eyes and sighed, turning his attention to the parchment and quill before him. "You know I'm only interested in one woman, right?"
Sirius grinned, mischief still lingering in his eyes. "You said she wrote to you, didn't she? How is she?"
Remus nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yes, she did. She said she's been busy preparing for the school year."
Sirius raised an eyebrow. "And have you asked her to join the Order?"
Remus shook his head. "No, not yet. I want to ask her in person when I see her next weekend. Seems like a conversation best had face to face."
Sirius nodded, a touch of warmth in his eyes. "Smart move, Moony. She deserves a face-to-face conversation for something like that."
Remus sighed for what seemed like to be the millionth time that night. "I really don't want her to join the Order, Sirius. But I feel terrible for keeping it from her for so long. She will be upset that I didn't tell her sooner."
I'm sure she'll understand."
"I know she will. She's the most understanding, wonderful woman I have ever known."
Sirius chuckled, slapping Remus on the back. "You've got it bad for her, Moony. But honestly, there's no one more perfect for you than Y/N."
Remus smiled gratefully at his friend. "I know, Sirius. I just hope she feels the same way."
