Fucking. Why.

Company claims the weight is distributed over the shoulder. Not only is this not the case here (weight is on the dog’s back and perhaps shoulder blades), but the short pannier design ensures that when the dog’s head carriage changes so does the distribution of weight. Notice that on the photos where the head is not affecting the weight and pack that the pack has to be further back to accommodate this, making the weight on the dog’s back).

My other issues with the DogPak pack are the location of the girth strap closest to the dog’s armpits. It’s far too close allowing for rub and discomfort. They also show many videos of the dogs running at high speeds with packs which is a big no no (trot I’m fine with, but dogs should not run with weight on them as this puts additional strain on their bodies. Pack will also bounce against the body and can cause bruising depending on what you pack). This goes for both dogs carrying light weight and dog’s carrying heavier weights like mine.

I think at this point in my dog packing career? (Sounds like the wrong word but okay) im sick of seeing companies think they need to reinvent the wheel for these dog packs. Because they almost never do and the packs inevitably end up with major design issues that can be prevented by talking to a single person that packs dogs for real purpose or title. But at the end of the day if these sort of people (like myself) were talked to perhaps it would become clear that there’s not really a gap or NEED in the market for this. That it’s not revolutionary.

Around tumblr lately I’ve seen people with the opinion that not only are free roaming cats bad (correct) but also supervised cats in catios or on leashes (????). I assume it must stem from that “ecology of fear” post from a few months ago, but to me the sudden appearance of these kinds of posts just strikes me as odd. I’ve seen multiple posts like the below one in just this week.

If your cat is contained to your yard/catio/the sidewalk, then it still allows for predator-free safe places in your neighbourhood for wildlife, and creates predictability for them too. That’s one of the reasons why hiking trails ask people to stay on the trail— so you (and your dog, horse, cat, etc) can safely enjoy nature while still giving it space. It is possible to exist outdoors in natural spaces like that while maintaining wildlife comfort. If it wasn’t possible to do that, dog-friendly or (even just hiking trails in general, since humans are predators too) simply wouldn’t exist.

The problem with free roaming cats is that they break boundaries between human area (ie. trail, back porch) and wildlife area (foliage, etc) and there is nowhere the wildlife can go to exist that is safe from predators.

Idk, this is just my opinion but I just think there can be more nuance to the outdoor/free roaming cat issue than “never let your cat step outside under any circumstance”.

Imagine if the minibots were carried around like this by their bigger cohorts. I can definitely see Rewind being a purse puppy. Swerve would certainly be a sunglasses wearing backpack beagle (should I do more?😈🙃).

The Almighty algorithm decided I needed to know about dog sling harnesses for larger dogs that may have mobility problems or for emergency situations. I just couldn't help but laugh at how reluctant some of these dog models look lol. This was also supposed to just stay a doodle too 🙄...

lol I was about to send in an imagine about Eli being a leash kid then I remembered I sent in another leash imagine where Derek and stiles were both leash kids.

Stiles and Derek swore they’d never put their kid on a lead, but they never expected Eli to be even worse than they were. They backpack buddy—a backpack that looks like a dog but it’s tail serves as a leash. But Stiles and Derek don’t get the chance to hold onto it—Eli won’t let them: He likes to hold onto the leash himself. But when he has the backpack buddy on, he doesn’t wonder off. He stays with his parents, but he has to hold his own lead.

Can't help being fascinated by his backpack and his weird little device, can't help chitchatting with him about the girls, yet the very sound of his voice is infuriating.
