Pitch for a new big finish series starring Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair as small time freelance private investigators into strange occurrences and potential alien invasions plus any other problems the locals of Sheffield might be having and come to them for help with. And the name of this series?
O’Brien & Son.

Everyone always says Doctor Who needs to be constrained to a shoe -string budget to be good again, but no one ever articulates *why*.
It's because show runners, without access to ~beautiful amazing stunning CGI~ to prop up their episodes would instead have to rely on actually telling meaningful, coherent stories , not just having CGI scenery.
Good writing and characters can make a cardboard set held up with duck tape meaningful and heartrending because the writing brings meaning to the setting.... But the most beautiful, breathtaking CGI in the world can't save a boring and unintesting story or it's flat characters.
You could have the most breathtaking special effects, but if your story is shallow people are going to be snoozing during the climax or so bored they "watch" the whole thing twice over but still can't remember the plot.
It's not a bad thing that Doctor Who has a higher budget than it started out with, but it DOES allow writers to hang onto the coattails of CGI effects and looking pretty instead of being able to hold meaning and significance by the weight of the writing and performance.

Does anyone know where I can find the DW straight-to-video spinoffs? Desperate to watch them all in chronological order

See, what I love about this is that it implies the eventual existence of a spin off that would fill the centre of this Venn diagram…
Tumblr media
i just finished episode 1 of class heres my review
[ID: 3 way venn diagram. circle 1: "getting covered in blood and also gay kissing"; circle 2: "former companion gets companions"; circle 3: "dr. who shows up". torchwood is in the intersection of circles 1 and 2, the sarah jane adventures is in the intersection of circles 2 and 3, and class is in the intersection of circles 1 and 3. /end ID]

i appreciate that rtd knows when to fudge things in order to make a good story. like he wanted to cast Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble, literally saying it's like she was sent down from above to play the role, but she was 18 when she was cast. so he aged up the character of Rose Noble a couple years to be 14 or 15, not caring that it didn't make sense with the timeline. it's okay if you have to jokingly explain things as a magic time cloud or whatever, the minutia doesn't matter if it means you can cast someone perfect and tell a good story. and Yaz Finney is really, really perfect for that role. it reminds me of that thing Rachel Talalay said about Heaven Sent where the crew pushed back on her about the lighting in a couple shots because it didn't really make sense, and she said "it doesn't matter where it comes from. it comes from 'it looks good'."
idk! i just really appreciate when creatives know when to let things be bullshit sometimes for the sake of good art.

So if Donna's gonna work for UNIT she's probably gonna be in the UNIT spinoff and if that's the case I have some requests:
1. She has to be safe. Obviously. Even if that means very little screentime.
2. If the Doctor is needed, get 15. Let the depressed one rest.
3. 15 and/or Donna should mention him a couple times tho. 15 to ask how junior's doing, Donna to just lovingly complain about him or tell Shirley about that really bad movie she watched with him the other day or something.
4. And if we do see 14 it's once or twice a season and it's Donna coming home from work and him just being like "Oh hello how was work listen I (re)learned how to carve wood and look at this BIRD I made"
You get my vision?

I was out really, really late and there was no public transport so my only way to get home somehow involved a Doctor Who spinoff that would be consumed using my voicemail app but someone chased me before I could do that.

Just imagine for a moment we live in a timeline where the paternoster gang got their own televised spin off. Vastra and jenny are covered in blood and making out sloppy style on bbc television.
It is glorious…

For Screen readers, this is a poll.
The question is, does this link allow you to watch the video?
Option one is "yes" (please list country in tags)
Option two is "no" (please list country in tags)
the link in question is
^please click the above link, and if applicable push 'play' and see if the video loads, or see if it says "not available in your country".
I was trying to find where to buy/stream the Doctor Who unofficial australian spinoff, K9 (2009, and completely unrelated to the K9 and Company spinoff of the 70's/80's that only had a pilot episode) , since Pluto TV only has the first episode now, and after ordering the DVD, I discovered that the show creators are intelligent since the DVD and have the entire series, all 26 episodes, available to stream completely for free on their website!
If you have not watched K9 (2009) yet, or if its been years since you've seen it, this is your sign to watch it !
the poll is because someone said the link said it was unavailable in their country, so now I'm curious who gets to also watch K9 for free :)
Don't forget to reblog to share the Doctor Who love :)

"average Doctor Who companion gets 3 spinoffs a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average companion gets 0 spinoffs per year. Sarah Janes Georg, who lives on Bannerman Road & gets over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
