about a year ago i had to block someone who said a lot of kinda upsetting things about my autistic dirk art and posts. i never talked about it at the time, but i feel like just saying this:

yes, i have always headcanoned dirk as being autistic. its like 60% of the dghda things i talk about here. some of these hcs don't match how other people see dirk which is fine

some people have previously suggested that the way i depict dirk is infantilising. as an autistic person myself, i understand being careful about this topic, but it's also important to challenge these sorta assumptions.

autism is very different for different people. much of my characterising for dirk has been based on my own experiences. calling those depictions infantilising suggests that those autistic traits are inherently childish or immature, which is a stereotype and kinda harmful??

im sharing this now just to kinda share my perspective on it and to try and destigmatise it a bit. honestly there’s a lot of dirk related art ive never posted from fear of people judging or misunderstanding like before, but i want to start feeling confident sharing it again :)
