One of the funniest parts about the whole “Leo not giving Draxum any grace” idea is that Draxum is one of the ONLY notable older men in the show that Leo isn’t willing to give a proper second chance to OR really hear out in the first place.

Sometimes I think ford haters don't fully understand why ford punches Stan. Yes ford still holds a grudge from the science experiment. Yes he's still pissed that Stan pushed him through the portal. But that's not the reason?

Imagine you were manipulated and tortured into creating a doomsday device by evil incarnate. And then you were trapped in the nightmare realm with him. For 30 years, you will suffer terribly for your hubris and naivety, and you will blame yourself for it. The only solace is knowing that the portal was destroyed, and Bill never achieved his goals. Suffering is just the price you had to pay for your mistakes. That made it worth it, almost. This is retribution, redemption.

And then, all of the horror you've been through, it's suddenly all for naught. The portal was rebuilt anyway. Your universe is under threat again. You want to blame your brother so badly. But deep down, you know it's not his fault. It's yours. Your brother has not only doomed the universe but doomed you to be responsible for it. It's a fate you'd already given everything to avoid.

To be clear this is an explanation, not justification. Ford was irrationally taking out his anger when he punched Stan. Because he wasn't emotionally mature enough to empathise with Stan, who'd actually had a pretty good reason for building that portal (it was love aw). But ford's never had the opportunity to emotionally mature. He's been running off of trauma response and survival instincts for the last 3 decades.

It wasn't just a grudge. Ford's hopes were crushed, that's why he punched Stan.

Apparently there is an ongoing conversation on twitter about how Sauron was the only one who ever offered Galadriel any agency and both Gil-galad and Elrond were "worse to her than Sauron". Usually I stay away from these kinds of conversations but I couldn't this time. Ya caught me at the wrong (or right) time.

All the elves in the show have had misunderstandings through S1&2. Some of them pretty ugly.

In S1:

Gil-galad is not truthful with both Galadriel and Elrond.

Elrond is not truthful to Galadriel, to the point of sending her away.

Galadriel flaunts the king's orders and her obsession has come at the cost of lives and friendships.

S2:

Gil-galad gets better

Elrond is harsh on Galadriel. He recognizes this and asks for her forgiveness when in Adar's camp. He heals her when otherwise she would have died, and they reconcile.

Galadriel failed to tell the truth end of S1 about Halbrand and the ramifications continue into S2 leading to Elrond feeling betrayed and Celebrimbor dying. She realizes it is not strength but light that defeats darkness and through that experience she overcomes her own darkness and ends up being able to lend guidance to the other elves (reconciling with them) and peace to Celebrimbor before his death.

They're messy. But they love each other and are all firmly in each other's camps.

Sauron never offered her any agency. He wanted to manipulate and control her power. He would have used her skills as a leader and commander as he used Celebrimbor's skills as a smith. It was never about her agency in any capacity, it was all about him.

While rereading mdzs I am once again shocked by how talked about the "you were the only mistake he ever made" line from Lan Xichen to Wei Wuxian is and how heated it gets some people because honestly... I don't think he actually even believes that.

Stay with me. Look at the actual line. (I Included 2 translations for comparison's sake)

Firstly, yes he is mad at Wei Wuxian in this scene. But his biggest moment of anger was actually before this. By this point he's realized that Wei Wuxian forgot what happened after nightless city (and therefore ISN'T stringing along his baby brother on purpose) so he has in fact calmed down a bit.

Secondly, notice that he starts by talking about how his uncle felt. This is not Lan Xichen making a value statement about what he thinks. When he says Lan Wangji was proper and righteous he is talking about him being a model lan, he's talking about their family and clan's perspective of Wangji. Indeed, in their eyes, Wei Wuxian is the only time Lan Wangji was ever not the textbook perfect Lan.

Thirdly, what is Lan Xichen trying to say here? What is he mad at Wei Wuxian for? It's that he doesn't know Lan Wangji is in love with him. His anger is eased by realizing Wei Wuxian doesn't remember the very blatant confessions lwj made in the cave after nightless city, or Lan Wangji fighting his own clan elders for Wei Wuxian, and so had no way of knowing the whipmarks on Lan Wangji's back were related to him. But he is still mad, he still thinks Wei Wuxian should have been able to figure it out. So what does he highlight?

The fact that the only thing Lan Wangji, perfect model-Lan righteous Lan Wangji, ever defies his clan for is Wei Wuxian.

And Wei Wuxian has seen him do this! Even if he doesn't remember this one instance. Because Lan Wangji has been doing that the whole story through. Wei Wuxian has watched Lan Wangji blatantly stand against the entire cultivation world for him, and here Lan Xichen is highlighting just how unusual that is, how much Wei Wuxian must mean to Lan Wangji that he's willing to do that. The important part of the sentence here is not "mistake" it's "only."

Lan Xichen here isn't trying to say that he disapproves of Wei Wuxian, or telling him to stay away from his brother. Remember, the thing that made him mad in the first place was Wei Wuxian saying that he and Lan Wangji slept in seperate rooms. He thought they were together! He's mad because they're not!

At no point does Lan Xichen say he individually considers Lan Wangji's feelings for Wei Wuxian a mistake. If he ever did, it's clear he accepted them regardless long ago. Mistake or not, what he wants is for his little brother to be happy.

personally i don’t think that jay losing his fuckin marbles in hunted was out of character, at least not right now . he genuinely thought there wasn’t any hope for them .

jay has always been quick to panic and catastrophize any situation they’re in . the reason he didn’t go crazy during skybound is because he wasn’t trapped in another dimension without anyone to come rescue him . he had faith that his friends would come to get him , and that was literally the only thing keeping him from losing it all . yes, sure, jay was snarky and making jokes and whatnot during skybound but he was also obviously scared and, like nadakhan said, he was doing that to COPE . to hide that he was afraid . he was trying to keep himself stable by making light of the situation

notice how he became despondent and went “maybe you shouldn’t have come” when they were stuck in his cell on the misfortune’s keep …. notice how he wanted to give up at his parents’ house when all of his friends were captured , and he only had a sliver of hope when he was reminded that there were still people out there who could help him …

in s9 they had no way of getting out , no way to contact their friends, they were trapped, starving, and being hunted by the inhabitants of the first realm . they were all freaking out . jay just couldn’t psychologically handle their situation anymore and fully accepted that they were going to die , and then he started experiencing psychosis . he couldn’t use jokes to cope when there was nothing waiting for him in the future, as he thought . there was nothing point . he thought it was over for them

also like even if he hadn’t started to succumb to this belief that he couldn’t do it on his own in skybound , that doesn’t make hunted out of character for him . the situation in hunted goes beyond him just “giving up” or something similar … he was literally delusional . he was actively trying to get himself KILLED . he was hearing things and seeing things that weren’t there .

and . generally . some people just snap when things become too much pressure . you could argue jay isn’t the type of person to do that just because of skybound but personally i fully understand him cracking after having all of those experiences wearing him down mentally . in fact i think it’s way more realistic for him to crack out of anyone , especially since out of the five of them in the first realm during hunted, jay was the only one who remembered the torture and horrors that he experienced during skybound . idk i know it’s a tv show but i feel like people put way too much pressure on jay’s character to be this 100% strong unwavering person when he’s not… not unwavering . strong, yes, but even the strongest person on the planet is gonna crumble when enough weight is piled on them

stan having severe issues from his dad and those years of being homeless that we keep on getting more info on but never really getting confronted on (the drifter catalogue and tijuana incident...), him being completely alone for like twenty years when running the shack before soos comes along to the point that 1998 is noted as his low point, and him not really learning about bill+what he did to ford until ages after he killed him if he ever did get the full context

while i think amnesia and everyone seeing him as a hero actually helped with stan's 'i'm a worse version of my brother' thing its still a lingering issue too and we now got him being insecure over his own hands

ford being immediately thrown from 'being tortured by bill' to 'being stuck in the multiverse and being chased by bounty hunters constantly', him fully expecting himself to die when destroying bill, and him only now being safe for the first time in 30 years ....relatively safe, he's still in constant danger because of course he is

idk in the end the series wants them to be happy and they deserve it, its why i wasn't too worried about the book being like 'ooh bill is back!! and the book is haunting ford' thing cos i knew they'll be ok

You could play with the dirty part of the canon description by having Slash and his people roll in mud to hide their scent.

Parts of the Code labelling using weapons/traps as dishonorable could have started as agreements made that Slash's people wouldn't keep using their old tactics, maybe forced on Thunder's Clan to keep them from becoming too powerful, if they DID fuse.

I'm more liable to just remove the "dirty" thing entirely honestly; I just think it's so shitty I'd like to nuke it from orbit, you get me? Every single time they want you to hate someone, they make them fat and/or stinky. So I just finished Netflix's Devil May Cry series and - being a big fan of DMC3 (even though I spent like 4 hours trying to beat Vergil at the end) - gotta say, it surprised me. I went in with a low bar but it's pretty good.

The last episode did lose me, just some frustrating end decisions and the demand for a hulking boss fight, and there were some prior scenes or dialogue that were short of perfect in execution, but episodes 5 and 6 are great, the latter especially, so I hope it gets a Season 2 (warning probably gonna rant spoilers in the tags).
