"Sauron was the only one who offered Galadriel any agency"
Apparently there is an ongoing conversation on twitter about how Sauron was the only one who ever offered Galadriel any agency and both Gil-galad and Elrond were "worse to her than Sauron". Usually I stay away from these kinds of conversations but I couldn't this time. Ya caught me at the wrong (or right) time.
All the elves in the show have had misunderstandings through S1&2. Some of them pretty ugly.
In S1:
Gil-galad is not truthful with both Galadriel and Elrond.
Elrond is not truthful to Galadriel, to the point of sending her away.
Galadriel flaunts the king's orders and her obsession has come at the cost of lives and friendships.
S2:
Gil-galad gets better
Elrond is harsh on Galadriel. He recognizes this and asks for her forgiveness when in Adar's camp. He heals her when otherwise she would have died, and they reconcile.
Galadriel failed to tell the truth end of S1 about Halbrand and the ramifications continue into S2 leading to Elrond feeling betrayed and Celebrimbor dying. She realizes it is not strength but light that defeats darkness and through that experience she overcomes her own darkness and ends up being able to lend guidance to the other elves (reconciling with them) and peace to Celebrimbor before his death.
They're messy. But they love each other and are all firmly in each other's camps.
Sauron never offered her any agency. He wanted to manipulate and control her power. He would have used her skills as a leader and commander as he used Celebrimbor's skills as a smith. It was never about her agency in any capacity, it was all about him.

mommy kissing santa claus ? oh goodness !
✎ᝰ — your adorable children catches you and your husband sneaking kisses from one another, except that they see santa claus and not your actual husband
★ — gojo, toji, geto x fem!reader
★ — genre + warnings: fluff & very suggestive + allusion to sex from previous night in geto’s (nothing explained/nothing in detail)
★ — a/n: thank you to my pookie kai for your help (@strawhatkia) and dedicated to my tia baeeee <3 (@tiathecreator)
꒰ SATORU GOJO ꒱
°❆ christmas day lingers quicker and quicker and midnight is close to striking, but of course, you and your husband are wrapping gifts very last minute. there would be a great explanation to this but there isn’t, both of your work schedules and the children's school schedules, made it barely possible to wrap gifts. which leads to the two of you rapidly, and terribly, wrapping gifts as your twin children sleep.
but, to make the night slightly more festive, gojo decided to dress up as santa claus. he bought two sets, one as pajamas and one for the morning as everyone unwrapped their gifts. he thought it would excite the children for the festive holiday. you laughed at his frivolous idea and immediately he pulled out a mrs. claus outfit….oh gosh. you laughed at the suit, you rejected the outfit and continued wrapping, ignoring his pleas as it got worse and worse.
gojo dressed up with the beard and santa hat, trying to convince you that dressing up is a wonderful idea and the kids would love it. though in your mind, you’re thinking of wondering how to tell this white-haired man that he looks like a creep and not santa claus, but you wouldn’t hurt his precious little heart like that. instead, you continued to wrap the remaining gifts, until you felt a sudden heaviness on your chest. heaviness that could be described as your brawny, whiny, six-foot-four husband still pleading with you to dress up with him. his usual gleeful blue eyes become doe-y, now giving away the desperation that gojo is never ashamed of.
you laugh at his desperation and ask him to get off but of course, he refuses. he hugs you and traps you in a tight space, you trying to squirm out of his hold and him hovering you. it also doesn’t make it better that his doe-y look turned into a sense of mischief, you raised your eyebrow at his look, and he simply shrugged at it. you two stared at each other until gojo’s lips formed a smirk and placed a sensual kiss on you. you opened your mouth to object to the kiss but instead, he placed another one and another…and another. he continued to kiss you until you kissed back, light noises made as both of your hands traveled. the kiss continued and distracted both of you from the gift wrapping and the fact that the twins had woken up from their sleep.
your bedroom door opens widely, but of course, you and gojo hadn’t noticed, and both of them yelled, “santa?!”. your child’s voice startled both of you and gojo immediately fell off of you and almost until the gifts. you elbowed him to get the gifts out of their sight, he grabbed the nearest blanket and threw it on top of their gifts. you asked your children why they couldn’t sleep and they answered back why you were kissing thee santa claus, the big dude with a sack of gifts. why is santa kissing their mom and not their dad? this is nuts, insane, crazy to even think about!
while the kids were trying to lecture you on how much dad loves you and how you’re such a bad person to dad, you looked to gojo and gojo burst into laughter, you followed along and laughed as well. both kids looked at each other with confusion and hurt on their faces. gojo patted the space between the two of you and told them to sit there as he explained a (terribly) exaggerated story on how their dad is the real santa claus, that’s why he’s extra busy during the month of december. he even took off the beard and hat to prove that’s it their giddy father and not the man in red with a bunch of elves. both children were confused and continued to ask questions, one of them didn’t believe him and still pointed to you as a cheater. you shook your head and added fictional events to gojo’s story, no matter how exaggerated it sounded aloud.
꒰ SUGURU GETO ꒱
°❆ christmas springs upon the morning, and you only know this because both of the young girls, nanako and mimiko, are banging at the door. you and geto groan and try to ignore it, if only the girls didn’t start fiddling with the door, and that startled the both of you. particularly ‘cause the aftermath of last night was still present, since the both of you weren’t clothed.
thankfully, yet oddly, you were reminded to tell geto about the santa suit to wear for the morning. now was it a silly idea? most definitely! was for nanako and mimiko? mostly yes, and you needed some type of memory of christmas morning on your phone. you walk over to your closet and shuffle around the boxes of presents until you spotted the big red suit and hat to match. you smiled ever so cunningly to yourself, geto noticed but shrugged his shoulders and went about to brush his teeth. you pulled the suit from behind the presents and showed it geto, proposing to him to wear it for this merry morning. geto being geto, he immediately rejected but that no didn’t stop you from convincing him to wear. did it take a lot of convincing? oh definitely. did it take a lot of “are you guys done yet?” from your two girls? yes…sadly yes.
the only thing that convinced him was that it would bring a lot of glee to his girls and he can’t disappoint his girls, he just can’t. even if it means sucking up his pride and dressing up as santa claus and pretending to bring the gifts from the north pole. it also helps, not geto though, that you bought a sack similar to santa’s so he could truly be in character.
after some time of getting ready for the morning, as in fussing with geto about the suit and carefully placing the presents into sack, you entered the living room with a smile that is hiding something, but the girls are too focused on their stocking stuffers to notice. they bounce with gleefulness as they open small gifts such as doll clothes, hair accessories, some candy, and other minuscule things they asked for. they continued to bounce around the tree as they tried to peek at what their gifts could be but were forced not to open them until their surprise arrived.
the girls grew tired after some minutes and frequently asked when is their surprise is coming. nanako tried to sneakily open one of her gifts under the tree until the iconic, “ho! ho! ho!”, made it’s way into your home and the girls jumped up from their spot to see santa claus in their home. their jaws dropped and their eyes grew from the sudden appearance of santa claus, the true (fake) santa in their home! you giggled at their amusement and you noticed geto’s mouth growing from annoyed to relaxed as he small childish smiles on his girl’s faces. maybe dressing up as santa wasn’t too bad of an idea for geto, but who is he to tell you that you’re right?
the girls eagerly asked questions as santa geto sat down to give their gifts, he tried to answer to the best of his abilities or at least give believable answers for them. mimiko questioned him on why santa’s hair looked similar to their father’s and he immediately answered with hair dye and extensions. you smiled to yourself at the beautiful, and playful, sight of the girls enjoying geto as santa claus, you took many pictures on your phone while they weren’t looking.
though, geto caught you mid-click and pulled you onto his lap. he peppered kisses all over your face and gave you “your gift”, an enduring and sweet kiss to say “I love you”. though, maybe nanako and mimiko shouldn’t have been present to witness that cause immediate yelling came from the both of them. they mostly yelled at geto and asked him why he kissed their mother, he’s supposed to be married to mrs. claus! he shouldn’t have his lips on their mother and their mom shouldn’t like that, their father would be furious!
you and geto smiled at their lecture, you giggled to yourself and geto pulled off his costume, reavealing to them that he is santa claus. mimiko tried to say that she always knew from the hair but the both of you knew that was a lie.
꒰ TOJI FUSHIGURO ꒱
°❆ a clink goes and laughter fills the living room, just as much as it is with red and white, and the typical splatter of different colors from megumi and tsumiki, love and peace decorate it as well. two bottles of wine sat at the dresser, one already halfway done as you and toji chatted (and drank) away for christmas eve. but as the wine bottle becomes empty, the space between you two becomes closer. then again, he has been gone for a whole month and a half, it’s only right to feel this way with him.
it’s only right to feel this way of yearning from his absence, which explains why his arm slyly brings your lower body closer to him. it explains why his fingers drag themselves along your thigh, lightly dragging around your stretch marks. it explains why toji brought himself closer to your face, only a mere inch away from your lips interlocking. but instead he brings the idea of dressing as santa claus and mrs. claus for the night? sounds odd, trust it is and the way your head is titled, he knew that it sounded odd to you.
he explains himself further and says that it's only right that you dress up for the holiday season. plus, he’s one hundred percent sure that mrs. claus misses her dead old husband. you still had a look of confusion on your face, toji sighed and went into the closet to change into the costume he had prepared. except when he came out, it was barely anything like the classic look of santa; it was a red thermal top with fur cuffs, barely cropped but can still show a peek of his abs, the top had a bell at the collar, quite small and quite annoying. red thermal pants to match as well and a santa hat (something to keep it classic).
you burst into laughter as you saw the awful outfit he claimed to be dressed as “santa claus”. when in actuality, he looks like an elf on the shelf and you told him that, crying in laughter as toji huffs in embarrassment. he grumbled to himself, saying it was the last time he tried to be “in the merry spirit”. he continued to grumble to himself and you continued to laugh at him, still not over the ridiculous outfit, you gave props for trying, but couldn’t get over it.
granted, his muscle build made it look somewhat attractive but the amount of red on him just threw you in for a loop. it also doesn’t help that the bell jingles every time he moves. his embarrassment grew into frustration, making him throw off the top and your laugh dialed down. the both of you forgot how bashful you can get when toji is topless, due to his absence.
toji noticed, finding amusement at how your laughter was taken back as soon as he removed his shirt. which made him want to tease you just a slight bit; he moved back to the bed and grabbed your hand, moving it to place on his hips. then drags it along his waist, he lets out a small groan when you press your nails onto it.
as both of your hands roamed over each other, the space between your bodies constricted, leaning closer and closer until your lips ghosted over. you both chuckled before kissing one another, a kiss that could be described as loving, enduring, and passionate. but could you blame each other?
well, the only thing to blame is that door wasn’t completely closed and tsumiki happened to pass by. she glanced and continued to the kitchen, but then backtracked to your room. she spotted the red hat and thought to herself, “santa? there’s no way, why is santa in mommy’s room?”. she tip-toed closer to the small crack that your door left and viewed the kiss shared between you and toji. her jaw dropped and she immediately ran, quietly ran, to megumi’s room to wake him up. megumi grumbled to her to let him sleep, yet tsumiki insisted that she saw her mom kissing santa claus. she saw it with her own two eyes!
megumi didn’t believe her and tried to ignore her but he knew that wouldn’t work, therefore getting up from his bed and treading towards your bedroom. he didn’t even bother knocking and opening the door, immediately wishing he didn’t from the way his parents were on each other. thankfully, you both were clothed and didn’t do anything…yet.
toji scolded megumi for not knocking on the door and megumi rolled his eyes. megumi turned over to tsumiki and pointed out to her that santa claus was just their dad in a santa hat, it wasn’t the actual santa eating their mom’s mouth. tsumiki felt naive for falling for something so obvious but she can admit that she was a bit spooked that santa looked much too similar to toji. she even commented on how toji’s back looks sharp like rocks while santa’s doesn’t, that only made toji confused and you and megumi laughing at the comment.
toji came closer to tsumiki and started to chase her around the house, yelling how she’s gonna coal for christmas for peeking into her parent’s bedroom. you and megumi shook your heads but was amused at this family’s dynamic.
★ I tried so hard not to make toji’s include smut, yall please- like it’s so hard not making this whore when it’s literally canon that he is

Paste Magazine: 'Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s Creative Director Talks Restoring the Lore'
Rest of post under cut due to length and possible spoilers.
"“I was the one cinematic person who always snuck their way into all the writing meetings because I love storytelling,” [John] Epler tells Paste. “I love narrative, and they wanted me to be Narrative Director on the franchise.” When the Creative Director position opened up later on, Epler was primed for the role thanks to his experience across multiple aspects of game design. ‘They wanted someone who had a good relationship with the people on the team, who could work across disciplines, and who knew the story,” Epler explains. “You know, knew the franchise and its storytelling. Because I think for Dragon Age in particular, narrative is such a core part of the franchise’s identity. They wanted someone who could operate in that space, but also knew how to work with gameplay, work with design, work with art, and that was something that, with both QA and cinematics, I had learned to do. I think just a history of being always willing to do whatever was necessary and also having good relationships with most people on the team helped me out.” As creative director on Veilguard, Epler worked with a team that fluctuated in size from a dozen to several dozen depending on which phase of development it was in. And given Epler’s history with cinematic design, that team worked closely with narrative to craft the kind of epic story Dragon Age and Bioware are known for. “Storytelling is huge, probably the biggest part of Dragon Age: The Veilguard,” Epler reminds us."
---
"Paste: When you’re bringing back a series after a decade, how do you decide what threads to pick back up on, which characters to use, which lore to focus on, etc.? John Epler: It is going to sound very cliche, but it is true: It honestly comes as we build it. We knew a couple of core parts of the story. From the end of Trespasser, for good or for ill, we pretty much determined where we were going and what we were going to be doing. It was about the chase, the search for Solas. Solas had been very clear in his ambitions to end the world at the end of Trespasser. And, you know, at the end of the very final scene of Trespasser, we stabbed a knife, a dagger, into the map on Tevinter. So we kind of knew we wanted to go to Tevinter. We knew we wanted to chase Solas. Now that said, as the story started being constructed, and we discovered, okay, where else do we want to go, what characters make the most sense in this story, that kind of determines what lore threads we want to start pulling on. So without getting too much into spoilers, obviously, Scout Harding has a story that’s very focused on the dwarves and their history; Shery Chee started writing Harden’s ark, and realized, okay, this is actually something we’re going to want to dive into more deeply. Belarra’s story is very focused on the ancient elves, not just the gods, but who they were. So that became a lore thread we wanted to pull on. As far as returning characters for us, it really does come down to who has the most to say about what’s going on in the world. Who is the most likely to be involved in this particular story. And I think, most importantly, this is something that we always talk about, is who has more to say in their story, whose story isn’t over. Because one of the things that I don’t necessarily want to do, I don’t want to bring back a character just so they show up and then disappear. That doesn’t necessarily do that character justice, but it also contributes to what you do see in some franchises, which is a sense of small world syndrome, where there’s literally 30 or 40 important people in this whole world, and they all somehow know each other. But again, you know, you see Morrigan in the in the previews, and as we’re writing the stories like, well, of course, Morrigan, who is the daughter of Flemeth, who was at least an aspect of the goddess Mythal, one of the ancient elven gods, she probably has something to say or something to do in a story about the last two elven gods escaping. So, yeah, it comes down to who has something interesting to say, who has something more to say in their story, and who do we feel makes the most sense for where we’re going and what we’re doing."
"Paste: Sticking to the long gap between the last two games, what are the challenges in trying to make a satisfying continuation of that story without making it impenetrable for new players who maybe weren’t old enough to have really played Dragon Age in the past? John Epler: Well, I think it was funny because, on the one hand, yeah, the challenge is, you’re trying to tell another chapter of a story that’s been dormant for at this point nearly a decade. But it’s funny because I do think that actually ends up working to our benefit. For the second question, we cannot assume anything about what players remember. Because even people who were playing Origins, were playing Inquisition, all the DLC, they may not have done so for quite some time. And obviously some players are going to like—I mean, I see it all on social media, people doing their final Inquisition playthrough before Veilguard, which is great, but you have to assume that people don’t remember everything that happened. You have to re-onboard them back to the world, back to the lore, and you’re also bringing in new players. I think honestly, for Veilguard, one of the things that’s worked the most to our benefit is that this is a continuation of that story, but the context changes so dramatically within the first hour. You know you’re going after Solas, you know the first mission. We’ve always said we wanted it to feel like the last mission of a different game. But then you get to him, the ritual crumbles, the gods come out. And now, even if you’ve been following this story up to this point, for everyone, it’s just a sharp left turn. Solas is no longer the central antagonist of this at this moment, it’s now these two new figures, which means Rook, you know, you as a player character, but also the player themselves… You need to bring them back into this story, because nobody, including the people who’ve been playing forever, know what’s going on at this point. So it’s actually a really great way to do the first couple of hours, because you can’t assume everyone is coming into it with the same level of grounding in the story itself. Some people are gonna have more lore. And one of the things we do try to do is, anytime we introduce a proper lore term, I use Venatori as an example, we always try to pair it with a more commonly understood phrase. So “Venatori” and “cultists” always go together in the first few hours of the game. “Evanuris” and “elven gods” always go together in the first few hours of the game, but done in a way that doesn’t feel like the game is like, “Hey, don’t worry, we’re going to tell you everything.” It feels natural the way the people in the world talk about it. So you encounter Strike and Irelin, two of the Veil Jumpers, early on, and they use the terms interchangeably in a way that allows players who don’t know as much about the world to get what all these things mean. Like I said, it’s just the context of the stories. The story shifts so dramatically in those first couple hours that everyone is catching up, even the characters, even, you know, Harding is still trying to figure out what the heck is going on."
"Paste: Speaking of what’s going on, in Veilguard we have a new character as the protagonist, Rook. What’s happening with the Inquisitor and the protagonists from the first two games? What are they doing in this world now, assuming they survived their games? John Epler: One of our storytelling philosophies is, for us, especially when it comes to importing, is unless we explicitly say so, assume that those characters are still around. So what we do, because this is the story of Solas and the Inquisitor has a very direct tie to Solas, the Inquisitor does show up in Veilguard. I’m not going to tune into spoilers, or what the role is, but it would have been very strange for us to tell the story of Solas without having the Inquisitor involved, because, again, they were part of that story. As to the previous two protagonists, they’re still around; that said, their personal arcs, their stories that they were part of in their games, aren’t as directly tied into this story, either narratively or geographically. We’re now in the north of Thedas. So the Hero of Ferelden, who you know, if your hero survived, one of the things we talked about is they were looking for a cure to the Calling. They’re not going to necessarily be involved in this because they weren’t tied to the elven gods, and the blight is still present elsewhere. And Hawke, depending on what you did in Inquisition, may be deep in the Fade, or they may have gone to work with the Wardens and also engage with the Hero of Ferelden at some point. So we’re not going to say much about them because they’re not directly related to the story, but we want players to understand the fact that we’re not saying anything about them because they’re still alive. They’re still doing something."
"Paste: A lot has changed in the world of games and game design in the last decade. How has the creative process of creating a Dragon Age like Veilguard changed over that time? How was making Veilguard different than Inquisition? John Epler: I’d say the biggest change for me has been leaning much more heavily into pre-production on everything. So one of the things that we’d done on Inquisition, I was a cinematic designer on it, we didn’t really have the sense of storyboarding, of previsualization the way we do now. But with Veilguard, one of the things we did very early on is we built the entire story in Twine so we could play through and see the interaction points, see the word branch, and get the sense of how it was flowing, how it was coming together. Beyond that, very heavy use of previsualization, whether storyboards or actual white box, in-engine—or, I say “in-engine,” but, you know, in Maya—models, moving together, figuring out how these shots work. But I mean, ultimately, a lot of the same processes are in use now that we did then. Writing does peer reviews, they still do the same peer reviews. Take your work, you put it in front of the group, and you basically say tear it apart. Let me know what works, what doesn’t work. But I do think the other thing that’s been a great change since Inquisition is there’s a lot more sense of… if you’re building a level, you’re not just bringing in the level designers and level artists, you’re bringing in the gameplay people, you’re bringing in writing, you’re bringing in, you know, all these different groups to kind of build the feel, build the shape. Not to say Inquisition wasn’t collaborative, but I will say, as someone who worked on it, I felt much more like each pod was kind of an entity onto itself, you know, doing this thing, but not really touching the other parts of the game. In Veilguard, we very much wanted people to understand how their work fit into the whole that we were building. So there was a lot more sense of collaboration. And then, you know, more practically, COVID happened while we were making this game and brought work-from-home, remote work in general. I’m doing this interview from my basement right now, but in general, people are working more distributedly, so there becomes a much higher premium on communication. And like, we use Slack pretty extensively, and the sense of like, talking to people as much as you need to, as much as you can communicate broadly, and information sharing, I think, has become a much bigger part of it."
"Paste: So having the different departments less siloed, like it used to be, how has that impacted the day-to-day experience for a Bioware employee. Are they working more or less hours now that things are more collaborative? John Epler: I think it depends on who you are. And, I mean, I’d say generally less but again, it depends. I will say for myself, I have difficulty because of work-from-home. And this is a personal thing. I don’t always have the best separation between work and life because sometimes it’ll be like, nine o’clock at night and you’ll be like, oh, you know what? I just had this really great idea, I’m going to hop on and do something about it. That used to mean driving back to the office. So I will say now I’m not in the office, which is great. For me, one of the greatest things about this has been, I have a personal rule of I don’t ever do work between the time my kids come home and when they go to bed, which means I get to be fully involved as a parent. But then, like I said, 9:30 comes along [and the kids are in bed], and, you know, I think because I’m creative director, it’s a little bit different. I gotta jump in and be like, oh, I want to do this. So I think, you know, it depends on the person. But I think what it’s done is, in general, allowed a lot more freedom in defining your hours. And we do have some people who are not morning people, so maybe they don’t get up and jump on as early, but then I’ll see them later at night, and they’re doing the work that they would have done. And I think that freedom for me has been, and I think I can speak for a lot of people, has been probably the best part of how things have changed."
"Paste: So something else that’s changed in games over the last decade, I guess it really became standard right before Inquisition came out, and it’s something that’s been a constant problem for many people who are creatives in many different mediums. But some of the fans and fan accounts online and how they react to games and designers and games media, starting with what they call GamerGate. What are your thoughts on that type of fan interaction and how has it impacted the Veilguard team? John Epler: Anytime you get fan feedback, the question I always ask is, what is it that they’re actually saying? And, you know, sometimes it is literally what’s coming out, what they’re typing. But a lot of times, from whatever group it’s from, there’s a sense that they’re speaking to something deeper, something that’s, you know… I think ultimately, for me, it comes down to understanding and being confident in your vision which means you take the fan feedback, you can look at it, you can decide what you do or don’t do with it. But one of the most—I don’t want to say challenging, but one of, I think, the easiest traps to fall into is a feeling that you need to be, “oh God, they don’t like this, and they don’t like this, change this, change this.” And I think there’s a sense of, if you have a vision that you’re comfortable with, are confident in, you continue to stick with that vision, you can make make adjustments, make tweaks based on what people get excited or don’t get excited about. But I think the other side of it is, when you’re releasing news, you’re doing press events, you’re talking about the game, you’re only giving people a small slice and a decision that may, for them, like, “I cannot believe that, why would they do this,” makes a lot more sense when you know the context of the decision as a whole. And I’ll say it for myself, one of the bigger examples of this was when the Yakuza series went from action to JRPG, turn based RPG, and I’m like, “Oh, this is so weird. I don’t know. I don’t know how I feel about this. You know, this feels like a very strange shift.” When I played the game, like, “oh yeah, holy smokes, this makes so much sense.” They made it make sense narratively. They made it make sense from the gameplay perspective. So I always try to remind myself, like we know the game as a whole. We know all the pieces and how they fit together. When you get that feedback again, you can look at it. Some feedback is obviously better than others. Some feedback is more, you know, is more interesting, and more does more for us than others. But again, it comes down to know the game you’re building, be confident in the game you’re building, and don’t try to design by committee, because ultimately, everyone has a different thing that they want out of the game, and a lot of people, even themselves, will have two very contradictory things that they want out of a game. So you have to be careful not to overreact and water down what you’re building into something that I would describe as, you know, mushy. You don’t ever want to be in the mushy middle. You want to make a strong statement with your game and how your vision evolves, and stick with that."
"Paste: Where do you hope to see Dragon Age go from here? John Epler: Honestly, I love telling stories in this world, and I think one of the fun things about the ending of this game and some of the seeds that it sows for the future is the sense that everything you thought you knew, maybe you weren’t as right as you thought you were. And that stuff like using the unreliable narrator. It’s fun to be able to take that and apply it to things that you as a player experienced, and then see that there’s an additional layer. Context that you didn’t have at the time that now throws into questions some of what’s going on. So again, I’m trying to be as vague as possible to avoid spoilers. But I do like the idea of—because one of the things, the other side of it is Thedas is one continent in this world. There’s still a whole other world out there. And I think, you know, for myself, I kind of want to know what’s out there. I kind of want to know what’s going on in a world where, over the last 15 years, Thedas has almost ended the world three times by themselves. If you’re from a different continent, how are you feeling about that? I’m gonna guess, probably not great. So I think there’s a lot of fun stories to tell there. We haven’t said much about the rest of this world. So there’s just this giant blank canvas for us to start playing in, which I think is, for me, the most exciting thing about moving forward with this franchise."

← Previous part
December 2020, that time of the year.
December was the month of festivities, everyone knew that. It was the time to make your house feel cosy and prepare for the celebrations of Christmas and New Year's with your family. Hayden watched as Bubble struggled to set up her Christmas tree, and he couldn't help but laugh at her failed attempts.
“You are not being very supportive right now, Moose,” she said, playfully scolding him.
“Sorry.” He chuckled. “But this is really funny.”
She dropped the lights, that were around her, in frustration and glared at him. “How so?”
“You look like one of those elves from Rise of the Guardians with the lights all around you.” He kept laughing, his eyes shut tight as he crouched from his laughter.
Hayden’s masculine laugh was so contagious that she started laughing too. He had a point, she did look like one of those elves in the tangle of lights and limbs.
She was so concentrated on the talk that they were having while she tried to fix the mess she made at the beginning of the year when she took all the ornaments down, she ended up making a bigger mess and got caught in the middle.
While they kept laughing, she almost fell and that was when his laugh died. "Please don't bash your head on the floor, Bubble." He said looking at her a little bit worried.
"Relax, I'll be careful." She said, grabbing the arm of the sofa to brace herself as she walked to her seat and worked on the mess of lights. "You already put up your tree?"
"No, Bri and I will put up together next week when she stays here, so I'm waiting for her." The soft smile on his lips when he talked about his beloved daughter made her smile too.
The conversation kept going as she kept fighting with the lights making him laugh. "What are you going to do for the special day?”
“It’s my turn to host this year, so we are going to celebrate here.” He shrugged. “You?”
“At my sister’s but it’s a tradition that the kids come here to look for their presents, so that’s why I’m currently an elf tangled in lights.” She giggled and he smiled at the sound. “New year’s is my turn to be a hostess.”
They kept talking, telling each other what they planned to buy their respective families and every little nonsense that passed through their minds.
Finally, Christmas arrived and Hayden and Briar were sitting criss-crossed on the floor ready to open the presents, his parents watching them with a smile on their faces. The little girl had a bunch of presents around her, opening one by one with sparkles in her eyes.
“I think this one you are going to love.” In his hand, he had the package he had received a couple of days before and a big smile on his lips.
With all the excitement of the world, Briar opened the present and squealed with delight. In her hands were an Anastasia book and a tiara. “I love it!”
Hayden laughed, “Want me to put on the tiara?” The little girl nodded excitedly.
“Thank you, Daddy,” she hugged him.
But he shook his head, embracing her. “It wasn’t me, Bri.”
“Was it a Bubble?” He smiled, nodding. “Send her a picture, Daddy, and thank her for me!” Hurriedly the little girl posed with the book, the tiara on her head and a big smile on her lips for him to take a pic.
Obeying quickly he took the pic and when he was about to send it, Briar put a present on his lap. “Open it, it’s from Bubble too cause it has the same wrapping.”
Delicately, he pulled the wrapping paper off and immediately laughed at the packaging. “Oh God.” Briar was jumping up and down to see what it was so he gently took the present out of the box and showed it to her, making her laugh too.
In his hands was a spatula with the face of Darth Vader and the handle was a lightsaber and to put a cherry on top a matching apron that resembled Darth’s uniform. They were all giggling but his attention was on the note inside the box.
To take your cooking skills to the dark side, but not too much cause it’ll burn. Happy Christmas Moose and Princess, wishing you all the best and lots of tasty food.
With love, Bubble.
“Come on Daddy, take another photo.” Briar pulled from his hand and he, being such a girl dad, did as she said.
As father and daughter posed, everyone around them was interested in who this Bubble was and why she had them smiling so much.
Her phone rang in her pocket, pulling her away from her conversation.

She loves it and says thank you very much
A smile appeared on her lips when she saw the photos. In the first one, Briar was posing very princess-like with the book and the tiara in her head. The second one was a father-daughter selfie, Hayde was showing very proudly his spatula while Briar hung from his chest. The third one made her heart warm, and her knees buckled a little if she was honest. Hayden poses with the apron with a big smile looking directly at the camera.
It was my pleasure, truly
By the third photo, I’ll assume you liked yours
Of course, we find it very funny.
I accomplish my mission then
And you? Did you like yours?
I’m going to open it as soon as I arrive home with the kids
Cause it’s tradition that we open our presents together
True to her word, as soon as she arrived at her house the kids ran towards the tree dragging her with them. “Come on, hurry up!” Daniel kept pulling from her hand, making her laugh. While Brianna and Daniel were sitting around the tree piling up their presents and opening them, their parents and she were sitting on the couch eating snacks and chatting.
In the sweetest way ever, Bri put a box with wrapping paper of bubbles in different colours and sizes, probably chosen by Briar, on her lap. “From…” Her sister peeked over her shoulder.
“Not your business.” She stuck her tongue out to her as she pulled the box closer to her chest, making them all laugh.
Delicately, she pulled the paper off and an immediate smile appeared on her face. Hayden’s gift was perfect, a beautiful frame with a Singin’ in the Rain phrase, tracing the edges she read. “The show must go on!' Come rain, come shine, come snow, come sleet, the show must go on!”
He remembered their conversation all those months ago and that made her happy, and a little teary. In the back, it had a note that kept the smile on her lips. He’s too fucking sweet.
“Someone special?” Her sister asked.
The smile on her lips was answering the question itself, but she just shrugged. If her concentration wasn’t on her phone, she would have seen the looks between her sister and brother-in-law.
Bubble
Best present ever
Seriously?
You liked it?
Love it
You are the best present giver
I guess by the wrapping paper that Briar had something to do with it too
Yeah, she hand-picked it and all

Hayden opened the photo and smiled. It was a selfie of her with a big smile, to the point her eyes were almost closed, and behind her the frame on a big bookshelf.
Already placed in the important part of my house
Love the big smile, looks amazing on you
And I’m very happy that you like it
January 2021, you and me from the night before.
First day of a new year, the first hours technically. Hayden was coming back from celebrating with Briar at her mom’s house when an idea appeared in his head, so a little detour from his house was due.
He parked his car and took a deep breath, drumming his fingers against the wheel. What are you doing Hayden? The clock on the dashboard reads 01:55 AM. Grabbing his phone, he went to his contact and bit his lip nervously.
Should I go in or is it too much? I don’t need to walk up there, maybe it's better if I just wish her a happy new year with a call. Hayden's gaze shifts to Bubble's house, where he can see the faint glow of lights through the windows. He takes a deep breath, contemplating his decision. Fuck it.
One beep, two beeps, thre-. “Hello Hayden, hi!” Her cheerful voice reached his ears.
“Hi, Bubble.” It was impossible for him to not smile. “How’s everything?”
The noise died down a little, “Amazing, how was your night with the Princess?”
“Very good, she had a blast and used the tiara as a part of her outfit.” They laughed. “Listen,” she hummed. “Are you home?”
“Yeah, we are all here, the kids asleep.” Hayden's heart races as his idea of seeing her possibly come true.
“Can you possibly…” he drummed his fingers against the wheel again “Step outside for a bit?” I'll go and wish her a happy new year, just like any friend would, just that.
“Outside my house?” She asked, confused.
“Yeah…” Instead of an affirmative response, it sounded more like a question.
“Sure, give me a second. I have to grab shoes.” She said quickly.
The possibility of hugging Bubble, feeling her warmth and sharing a moment of celebration, made his heart race for some reason. Hayden glances at himself in the rearview mirror, adjusting his appearance, making sure he looks presentable before stepping out of the car. As soon as his feet touched the pavement, he took a moment to steady himself before walking towards Bubble's front door. As he made his way there, his heart was pounding with anticipation.
When she opened the door, a mixture of surprise and delight washed over her face, Bubble stepped outside her house with two glasses in her hand. The second they saw each other a smile instantly spread across their faces.
She looks absolutely beautiful. Simple tailored black pants hugged her waist with a corset with sparkly details and embroidered patterns, her hair was free and slippers were on her feet. Her lips with wine stains that gave them a particular colour that made her even more beautiful in his eyes.
"You didn't have to come all the way here, Hayden. You could have just called me," Bubble said, her voice filled with warmth.
They closed the distance between each other. "I wanted to see your face," Hayden replied, his eyes sparkling with affection. “And wish you a happy New Year."
Bubble's eyes softened, and she couldn't help but smile. “I wanted to see your face too.” Putting the glasses down, Bubble pulls Hayden into a warm embrace without hesitation.
Hayden's worries melted away as he held Bubble tightly, feeling the warmth of her embrace, his hand gently tangling in her hair as she rested her face on his chest. Her jasmine scent hit his nose and made his knees tremble a little. Oh how fucking much he had missed that smell, her smell.
Maybe it was all the wine in her blood and how fucking gorgeous he looked under the lights on her porch, but she snuggled against his chest, the rhythm of his heartbeat syncing with hers. They stood there, wrapped in each other's embrace, savouring the quiet and tender moment.
After who knows how long they, against everything their feelings screamed at them, pulled away from each other, but not too much. Maybe two feet away from each other, not much.
“Let’s just toast.” Quickly she grabbed the glasses and gave him one with a wink. “Don’t worry, it’s kids' champagne.”
Hayden laughed, making her smile more. “Always thinking about everything.”
“To what we toast?” She pursed her lips.
He mugged her, pursing his lips. “To... friendship?” Friendship? Really? Are you an idiot Hayden?
She groaned, tilting her head back, “Oh, come on, Moose. We can do better than that.” Her tone teasingly.
Hayden chuckles, realising Bubble's playful challenge. He took a moment to think, his eyes dancing across her features and involuntarily he took a step closer to her again. “To taking chances.” He asked softly.
Bubble's eyes lit up and she took a step closer to him too, her voice filled with warmth. “I like it.” Moving her glass towards his she smiled, “To taking chances, and embracing the unexpected.”
They clinked their glasses together, the sound echoing in the quiet night. As they sipped, their eyes locked, a mix of anticipation and affection passing between them.
How beautiful her eyes look under these lights. “I'm glad I took the chance to come here tonight, Bubble.”
She smiled bigly, “Me too, Hayden. I missed seeing you in person.” It was as if her hands had a mind of their own, or they were led by her heart because she hugged him again. He didn’t oppose and rested his cheek on top of her head as her arms circled around his waist.
March 2021, jealousy? Jealousy.
Hayden was at the coffee shop near her office, ready to pay for their breakfast when a hand beat him to it. “What the-'' Ready to turn around to face the owner of the money, the sweet voice he heard even in his dreams reached his ears and that hand he was dying to have intertwined against his own appeared on his line of vision. She was standing by his side with a smile on her lips. Oh how much I missed that smile. “I was going to pay for that, you know.”
She put the change in the tip jar “Well hello to you too, Hayden” and moved out of the way.
“Bubble.” He smiled at her and she did not only smile back but kissed his cheek too. Oh how soft her lips were but how ephemeral the sensation was on his skin. Come back, come back and kiss me all over again so I can cherish it properly.
His eyes fell on her outfit. Blue Converse, black tailored pants and a black tank top with a big light blue shirt on top.
I have a similar shirt. He couldn't contain his brain from creating the scenario of her with bed hair, his shirt, nothing underneath and her sweet smile.
It took Hayden a few minutes to come back to the real world but when he did, he just cleared his throat and blinked a few times. “You didn’t have to.”
But she simply shrugged. “It was our breakfast, let me treat you, Moose.” Our breakfast, how sweet.
The opportunity to tease her was right there. “How do you know it was our breakfast?” He asked with a brow raised.
She put an offended look on her face. “You go around buying every girl breakfast?” Her hand travelled to her chest where her heart was. “I’m wounded. And here I was, thinking I'm special.”
You are special. I only bought breakfast for you. And Briar and my mum and maybe my sisters if I’m in a good mood. “Cocky much?” They laughed.
After ten minutes or so, they got their order and jumped into his car to drive the rest of the way to her office. She talked all the way while he basked in her presence, her jasmine scent invading his nostrils, hoping it would stay on his car, and how clear her voice sounded in person. After Facetiming for months, her clear sweet voice was music to his ears. Having her close to touch was divine to him. That magic moment at the beginning of the year had left him wanting for more, wishing for more.
The scene was so fucking domestic, so cute. They were riding to work together, her attention on him, her body angled in a certain way that the sun hit her in the eyes and even though the visor was down her height prevented it from properly functioning.
As soon as they reached the studio’s garage he opened the car door for her, every door that came their way actually, as the gentleman he was, and talked a little bit about everything on their way to her office.
“Hello, you two.” Charlie’s voice brought them back to the real world. “Nice to see you again, Hayden.” The boy smiled her way, “Boss” and shared what seemed to be a knowing look with her. From the corner of his eyes, and above her height, he saw how a pink colour adorned her cheeks, it suited her.
She placed a coffee in front of the boy and rolled her eyes. Did she always carry that extra coffee? I was so lost in her face that I didn't notice the extra cup? Trying to not think much about it, a little scared of the answer, Hayden followed her to the office.
For some reason her office still lacks photos, it was more personal than, almost, two years ago that was for sure, but still no photos. The drawings were there, the video camera too, even the jasmin- she stopped in her tracks and he almost crashed against her. “Sorry, Bubble.” He said with his hands on her waist. Her look was fixed on the little desk where the jasmines were supposed to be but instead, there were red roses on it. He tilted his head to the side confused. “Are you okay?”
She nodded but he didn’t buy it because she was looking at those flowers like they were carnivorous and in any second they would eat her. His hands were still on her waist and for some reason, drew soft circles there, on top of her clothes, and that seemed to bring her back to the real world. Taking a deep breath she got close to them, but not too close, just to grab the card that was peeking from them.
His blue eyes watched her attentively as her nose was scrunched, which only meant that she didn’t like flowers. “Friend?” The curiosity was killing him. Who was sending her flowers she clearly didn’t like?
To her scrunched nose, add pursed lips and a bored look on her face. “Ex actually.” She said through gritted teeth.
“Still in touch, so civil.” He mumbled taking a sip of his cup. Why did you say it when it was clear that wasn’t the case? Are you jealous?
The offended look on her face was not fake that time. “Not even close.” The card on her delicate fingers was made a ball and went directly to the bin below her desk. “I don’t know why he sent them.” Her reaction had him raising his eyebrows. Was she mad? That was her mad face? She purses her lips when she’s mad? She’s so fucking cute when she’s mad. “Charlie, can you come here and take something away please?” She said through the phone.
The dad alarm on his brain, the one that told him when something was wrong or something was dangerous, went off. “Are you allergic?” He said quickly getting up from his seat and walking towards her, stepping between the flowers and her, looking attentively at her face in case she stopped breathing suddenly and stretching his hands to take her from her forearms, afraid she would fall.
She frowned at him but with a smile on her lips. “No, I’m not.” Her hands were on his forearms too. “Relax, I’m okay.”
He looked at her just to be sure and then to the flowers right when Charlie entered. “They are pretty.” It was true, they were, but Hayden preferred jasmine.
“I guess.” She shrugged and both of them looked at her confused. “I actually don't like them.” The brunette frowned his brows. “They are too cliché for me.” Hayden laughed and she did it too, still holding onto each other.
The moment that was created around them would become a core memory, the sunlight entering through the window illuminating the space, the synchronised laughing, the warmth of the other’s hands on their skin and, as if they were fifteen all over again, the racing hearts with flushed cheeks.
His laugh died a little earlier than hers and her laugh was melodic to him, even though it wasn’t. How beautiful you are laughing in my arms.
Nothing broke the moment, it died down on its own. Slowly, almost reluctantly, they let go of each other and kept having breakfast. Ewan came at some point to see her, to discuss something about timing and stayed with them chatting.
“How’s the Jedi training?” She asked, looking at them.
“Wonderful.” “Really fun.” They said at the same time and she smiled happily. “You should come, you know,” Hayden added and Ewan agreed but her head was tilted to the side, frowning. “To see how everything is going.”
“Oh yeah, I will go around one of these days but you are not going to make me train.” She warned the two of them, pointing a finger. “I do not train, under any circumstances.” The pair laughed and nodded. Hayden was with them, her, until it was time to do the wardrobe fitting so he left them to discuss their important matters.
Trying the Jedi robes again, the saber in his belt, every little second of that process of putting on and taking the costumes made him extremely emotional. Going back to being Anakin put him on a roller coaster of emotions and now, more like for a while, he had to throw into the mix the feelings he was having for her. To say his heart had been going through a lot lately was an understatement.
The fitting was finished and he was walking through the studios, going back to her office, to see if she wanted to have lunch with him when he bumped into Ewan. “Hey, how did it go?”
They walked side by side. “Good, lots of memories.”
The Scottish nodded. “Yeah, tell me about it.” They laughed. “The sabers and everything, it’s amazing.” The brunette nodded. “I felt like a kid all over again.”
Hayden felt the exact same way, not only because of all the filming and reminiscing but with his feelings. He was a fifteen-year-old with a massive crush again, her mere presence around him made him smile like a boy and felt light. Thinking about her and there she was, standing a few metres away from them talking with someone.
Whatever his dear friend was saying didn’t reach his ears because his attention was solemnly on her, like always. She looked uncomfortable, her body language screamed it and he noticed it right away, even if her back was towards him. She wasn’t facing directly at the person in front of her, her arms were crossed and she kept looking around, like searching for something, for someone. Who’s that? He stopped walking to inspect the scene, and Ewan stopped a few steps ahead of him.
“Who’s that?” Hayden interrupted his friend, who looked where he was looking and shrugged. “That one, right there. Who is it?” His eyes were fixed on the guy in front of her, too close to her for his liking, and that kept trying to get her attention.
“Don’t know.” Ewan shook his head “Why?” and raised an eyebrow looking at him.
But the question fell on deaf ears because Hayden kept looking towards her and when her eyes connected with his, his protective side emerged. She seemed relaxed as soon as he found him but a second later she raised her eyebrows, opened her eyes wide and then looked back at the guy in front of her. Walking past his friend, he went directly towards where she was.
He stood tall, making him seem taller than he already was, chest puffed and chin raised. In a few strikes he was standing behind her, his hand found his rightful place on her back and she relaxed against him as soon as he arrived. “You alright?” His tone was low for her to only hear, his breath ghosting in her neck, but no response came and instead only a few seconds' look from her that clearly indicated that it wasn't the case. “We were looking for you, are you ready to go?” He said a little louder.
The guy in front of them shut up the second Hayden arrived, but he didn’t pay attention to him. His eyes were on her and only her. Please tell me if something is bothering you. “Hey, I’m Tyler.” The guy stretched his hand towards him.
Blue eyes looked at him up and down and kept staring him down. “Hayden.” Oh, how he wished that his voice mimicked Vader’s at that moment because it would, for sure, make the idiot in front of him fear him, but a strong grip would do the work. All that with his left hand was still on her back and her jasmine scent calming him down, her warmth keeping him centred.
She looked up and gave him a tiny smile. “Tyler was leaving and so were we.” We, as in her and me. Not you dude. “Goodbye.” She didn’t wait for an answer and turned around, walking in another direction. Leaving him missing her closeness.
Hayden stood there, for a few seconds, still staring him down with a serious look on his face. The only moment he didn’t look at him was when his eyes landed on the nearest exit and then slowly looked back at the guy. Take the hint and walk away. Not wasting more time he followed her, leaving the guy behind, where he was supposed to be.
When he reached her side, his eyes raked her up and down, searching for some bad thing. “Are you okay?”
“Yes, Hayden. I'm fine." The soft use of his name grounded him. Say my name again, say it a thousand times, say it in French.
He nodded. "Who was he by the way?"
Her mad face became present in an instant. "My ex." She turned around to look at where he used to be.
"The roses guy?" A frown appeared on his face and she nodded. "What did he want? What was he doing here?" The protective mode was on again.
She looked back at him, with a tiny smile and her head tilted to the side. "He came to a casting and wanted to say hi or something like that, I don't know and I don't care." Her tone was firm, "I'm just glad you came and he is gone" but the softness of those words was something else.
You want me to die? You surely want me to have a heart attack. Unnoticed by him, the smile that appeared on his lips was worthy of an obvious fool in love and his hand almost cupped her face.
The cute moment was broken when her phone started ringing, he took a step back and let her answer. How close were they standing to each other? His mind was racing, his heart was racing and, being honest, he needed those few minutes without her near to properly be a functioning human being again and not a fool led by his feelings.
"I got to go, there are a few things I need to take care of at the office. But I came to see how the fitting went." She played with the phone on her fingers.
How sweet. "Great, lots of feelings." That’s an understatement.
Her hand travelled to his bicep "Tell me over lunch?" and gave it a little squeeze with a smile on her lips.
Caught by surprise, he raised his eyebrows, and before she could back down he nodded. "Of course, yeah." They smiled. "My treat though, cause you already paid for breakfast, Bubble."
"Deal." She said laughing, he did too.
His eyes followed her while she walked away, a smile on their lips and Ewan approached him with a smirk on his lips. "Well, I didn't know you were the jealous type."
"What?" He gave her one last look before turning to his friend, blue eyes with clear confusion, who had a flat look on his face. “I’m not jealous.” Hayden shook his head frowning. “I’m being absolutely reasonable, she looked uncomfortable so I went there to help." He defended himself with a tone a little higher than his normal one.
The Scottish, with his hands in his pockets, raised his shoulder and pursed his lips. "Sure, she looked uncomfortable, but admit you were jealous."
The brunette pursed his lips too. "I wa-”
"And you were a little protective too." He interrupted him.
"Wha-”
"I get it." Ewan shrugged again. "I would be the same way with my wife if something like that happened."
He frowned. “What? Who talked about marriage?” His mind was racing at 100mph.
But his friend laughed. “Look at you all worked up.” Even though Hayden tried to deny it, Ewan kept laughing. “You are so jealous.”
“Am not!” Am I? No, not at all.
“Yes you are, and to that add the worst liar for being an actor too.” His friend slapped him on his shoulder and walked away. Leaving Hayden standing there while he felt like his friend slapped him with facts left and right in the span of seconds.
Jealous? Me? Pff. Never. But wait, maybe I am. No, I can't be. Definitely not jealous. She looked uncomfortable with that guy and I did what I thought best, just that. Nothing more.
May 2021, little intruders on set.
The shooting started a few weeks ago, but Hayden was going to keep training for the fighting scenes, determined to make them perfect.
The day was almost coming to an end and he didn’t see her at any given moment, her too engrossed in filming and him with the training. So, he was making his way to his office, to see her at least for a few minutes.
“Hello, Charlie.” The boy behind the desk smiled at him. “Is she inside?”
“Yes, go.” Charlie had a mischievous smirk on his lips, but he paid no mind to it.
Walking a few metres from the reception to her office, he could hear the happy squeals from inside and her characteristic laugh. After knocking on the door, it died down. “Come in,” Her sweet voice said.
As soon as he set his feet inside, surprise gasps received him. “Anakin.” Being recognized as Anakin never fails to make him happy, after all, it was a character he held dear to his heart.
Sitting in the middle of the office, papers and coloured pencils scattered around the floor, were two kids, a boy and a girl, looking at him in awe. He looked at them with a smile on his face and walked further inside the room.
With them, sitting with her legs tangled was with one of her big happy smiles. “Kids, Hayden.” She caressed the heads of the little kids. Oh, what a sight. “Hayden, Brianna and Daniel.” They were looking at him with big eyes in awe.
They were quickly standing up and he crouched down a little in front of them to look at their eyes, he extended his hand. “Nice to meet you guys.” They shook it quickly. “I heard so much about you two.”
From up close, they looked identical. “Really?” They asked at the same time.
“Yeah, your aunt talks all the time about both of you.” He could see how she smiled at the scene. Brianna blushed at that and Daniel smiled happily. “Are you visiting the set?” The pair nodded. “And? What do you think?”
“Amazing,” Brianna said. “Everything is incredible,” Daniel looked at him as if he was a superhero.
Hayden saw her getting up and extended his hand to help her. When she was on her feet, he pulled her closer to hug her, the scent of jasmine in her hair invaded his nostrils. “Bubble.”
Her soft giggle reached his ears. “Moose.” The nickname made him laugh. “What are you doing here?”
They stood close, the two kids looking at them with eyes opened big. “I didn’t see you today, so I came to say hello.” He wanted so badly to move the loose strand of hair out of her face.
“Did you know that she used to have a poster of you in her room?” Daniel said, looking at him with curious eyes.
“Really?” Hayden raised an eyebrow, teasingly, at her and the little boy nodded.
“I was a kid.” She tried to act as if it was cool but the blush that started creeping to her cheeks gave her away, “Where did you get that?” and looked at the twin surprised.
“Mum told us,” Brianna said, still looking at Hayden.
“Why that doesn't surprise me.” He heard her mumble under her breath, that close they were. “What else did she tell you?”
“That you were a nerd.” The little girl said, raising her shoulders nonchalantly.
Her mouth fell agape. “I was not!” She said offended.
But the little boy nodded. “She said you were.”
Hayden was finding the whole exchange hilarious. “Your mother was a cheerleader, of course to her I was a nerd but I wasn't.” She crossed her arms, like a little girl when she was mad.
“You kinda are.” Brianna looked at her with a puppy eye look and Hayden laughed, she had to bite the inside of her cheek to not laugh too.
She crouched down to look at them, “I'm the one who can get you free tickets to Disneyland and conventions, so if I were you I would think my next words very carefully.” and narrowed her eyes threateningly, it was clear it was a joke by how much she was pressing her lips to not laugh.
The kids looked at each other for a few seconds “You are our favourite aunt” and said with sweet smiles on their lips, too sweetly.
She pressed her lips to not laugh. “Say that your father's sister and we are cool.”
They shook hands. “We always say that to her.”
Hayden laughed at the conversation. “You two are my favourites.” She kissed their heads.
“Now go with Charlie.” The twins happily obliged. “And don’t cause havoc!” She said, popping her head out of the office.
After exchanging some words with Charlie she looked back at him for a few seconds and then at the grown.
He waited for a few seconds but the need to tease her beat him. “So....you were a nerd.”
A groan left her lips and he couldn't hold the laugh that escaped him. “No, I wasn't.”
“What were you then?” Tell me about you, I want to know everything.
Nonchalantly, she pursed her lips “Normal” and walked towards the mess of papers and pencils on the floor.
“You were one of those that get along with everyone?” He raised an eyebrow and helped her pick everything up.
But she shook her head “Far from it,” making him frown “but I didn't stand out so it didn't matter.”
Impossible. “I highly doubt you didn't stand out, but okay.” She rolled her eyes. “If you were normal, what makes your sister say you were a nerd? Apart from being a Star Wars fan.”
The brunette picked up the pencils while she picked up the papers. “She was a cheerleader, everything apart from that was a nerd to her.”
“Come on...did you do cosplay?” His blue eyes were full of curiosity.
“No.” She shook her head.
“Dungeons and dragons?” Again, another shook off the head. “Maths tournament?”
She looked at him biting the inside of her cheek, a little embarrassed. “Champion for three years by my hand.”
He raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Impressive, very impressive.”
The fact that he wasn’t teasing her, or making fun of her, made her visibly relax “I know” and a smug smile appeared on her lips.
“Theatre?” Different departments of his school years popped into his brain.
“Had to.” The frown on his brows made her explain. “I can't act to save life, but I had to do it so I could gather experience.” He nodded understandingly. “I acted in a play as a tree once though.”
They laughed. “The most beautiful tree for sure.” It escaped his mouth too fast for him to even think what he was saying. But it’s true. The blush on her face made him smile proudly. “The yearbook?”
“No, but I had a friend that was there and I went to help him out sometimes.” He passed her the pencils “Thank you” and she smiled at him.
“The band?” He got up and helped her stand up too.
The tingles from hugging her minutes ago were still there and touching her hand for a second time, even for a few fleeting seconds, made his knees weak. Teenager behaviour Hayden.
She shook her head. “I can't even play the triangle.” They laughed.
“I’ll teach you to play the piano, sometime.” He winked and she blushed. She leaned on the table and he stood in front of her, their height difference more prominent. And he loved every second of it. “Any sport?” He asked, looking down at her.
Her lips pursed, while she nodded. “Gimnastic, three years.” Flexible, that’s interesting.
Horny behaviour, Hayden. Shaking his head to get rid of the inappropriate thoughts. He asked again. “You have a thing for number 3?”
But she looked curiously at him, for a few seconds, tilting her head to the side. “It's my lucky number.” She shrugged.
Hayden paid attention to her outfit. White simple long-sleeve t-shirt, showing off the curves of her torso, green cargo pants, that fitted her well in the waist and her Doc Martens. He loved her style, since day one.
“Back to school topic,” she nodded, “you weren't a nerd.”
“Told you,” she said in a singing tone, making him roll his eyes. “I just went there, passed grades as fast as I could to finish and got the hell out of that place to go to university and do what I like.”
He looked around her office. “Seems like you are doing it.”
A smile appeared on her lips. “The crazy little Star Wars fan that I was would have jumped on the couch the moment someone told her this is what she was going to do when she grew up."
He laughed at the idea of a mini her jumping all over the place. “I would have loved to meet her.” His tone was so soft, almost like the way she was looking at him. “More than anything because of my poster on her bedroom wall.”
She groaned, hiding her face in her hands, “Oh god” and he laughed, pulling her into his embrace. It was a natural response, the magnetic feeling in between them was too much to deny it. The need to have her in his arms, just like at the beginning of the year, was stronger than his critical thinking.
Unknown to him, the deep sound of his laugh, the way his chest moved against her cheek and the way he was holding her, all made her weak on the knees. The mix of his perfume and cigarette drove her straight to her wildest dreams, that took place on that specific July night but the only difference was that they were under the same roof, in person. Close enough to tear each other's clothes.
He was coming down from his laugh when he looked down at her, blushing adorning her cheeks, and she looked up at him. Your eyes are beautiful. Your smile is one of my favourite things in this world. A smile plastered on their faces.
“I'm going to kill my sister because those kids are too cute.” She said, still a little embarrassed about the poster incident.
Delicately, as if she was the most expensive work of art in the whole universe, he tucked that wild strand of hair behind her ear. “Don't change the subject.” You are still holding her, Hayden.
Your embrace makes me dizzy. After a few seconds, where she was lost in his eyes, trying so hard to not lean into his hand, she spoke again. “I already told you. I was a fangirl, what else do you want me to say?”
Everything about you used to do. You used to kiss the poster? I can kiss you now if you ask me. Technically, if I lean down a little, I coul- WHAT?!
“I thought you were a fan of the movies, not me.”
“Don't feel special Moose,” he raised an eyebrow. “I had a poster of Obi-Wan too.” She laughed at how he rolled his eyes.
“And that's how you kill the mood.” He acted offended and took a step back. Come back. Hold me again. Hold me for a million days. But they laughed.
“For real now,” she looked sincerely at him “I am a fan of the movies but you were my favourite of them all” and winked an eye.
That simple gesture, brain short-circuited him. “Thank you, Bubble.”
Feeling a little bold, she took a step closer to him, head tilted to the side. “And I used to have a massive crush on you.” Such a liar, you still have a massive school-girl crush for him.
If his brain was short-circuited, now there must be smoke coming from his ears. “Used to?” He choked out. Would you like to have it now? So that way I'm not the only one having a crush.
“Yeah,” she nodded. Is it me or suddenly we are in the sun? And his lips parted a little, her eyes falling there.
The cute, a little hot, scene was cut short by her phone ringing. “Shit.” She mumbled under her breath. “It’s Charlie, I gotta take it.”
He cleared his throat and said, “Yeah, yeah” nodding.
They talked for a few minutes, she even laughed a little and then hung up. “They are in the gift shop and Charlie is afraid they are going to try to buy the whole thing.” Hayden couldn't laugh at that. “I’m going to pick them up and take them home.”
“I’ll walk with you.” He said quickly. “I’m finished with the training for today, so I’m heading out too.”
She nodded “Yeah, okay” and pointed over her shoulder. “I’ll grab our things and we can head there.”
After a few minutes, they were walking out of her office. He held the door open for her, as usual. While they were walking around the set, they talked about their days and how they went.
The brunette found it extremely cute how she moved her hands while she explained something. Too absorbed in her storytelling and too focused on him, he hopped so, she didn't notice the golf cart coming behind them nor the prop guys in a hurry towards them, so swiftly Hayden put his hand on her back and swapped places with her.
She was walking on the wall side and him on the street side. His hand still ghosted on her back, guiding her around. The feeling of wanting to kiss her skin from that night in July still burns in his memory and now it was mixed with the closeness they were having. That definitely would hunt him in his sleep.
June 2021, girls team.
His day had started early, having been woken up by Bri due to her excitement for the day that awaited them. The little girl asked him like a hundredth time if she was finally going to meet the Bubble in person and each and every time he said yes with a smile on his lips.
“I can’t wait to see her,” Bri said as she jumped in the passenger seat.
Hayden chuckled, “I’m sure she feels the same, sweetie.”
And it was true. He had to carefully pick the day to bring her to the set and Bubble helped him, clearing the entire day to just shoot Anakin scenes. Briar was young, she still hadn't seen the dark parts of the Star Wars prequels, she knew her daddy was Darth Vader but had not seen it with her own eyes.
His heart beat with anticipation at the day they were about to have. Briar had been the centre of his universe since her birth, and bringing her to his workplace, to the one where he had to be his favourite character, the one he held most dear to his heart, felt like merging his two worlds.
As he was preparing for the upcoming scenes, sitting in the makeup trailer, with Briar spinning on the chair next to his, the familiar scent reached his nose first and then he saw her.
“Oh my!” She gasped. “Why did nobody inform me we have a princess on the set with us today?” Quickly her eyes met Hayden’s and gave him a fleeting wink before looking directly at the little girl.
There she was and a smile appeared on Hayden’s lip, just like in Briar’s.
“Bubble!” The girl smiled at her, Briar said with a glint in her eyes. As if she knew her from her whole, short, life, the girl jumped from the chair and hugged Bubble’s legs.
Her melodic laugh reached his ears as she caressed the little girl’s hair. “Hello Princess, it’s lovely to properly meet you.”
While the two of them talked, Hayden eyed her without the worry of being caught. She was wearing blue cargo pants, her characteristic Doc Martens, a black tank top, two braids keeping her hair tamed and a black cap to complete the outfit.
“Are you excited for today?” Bubble crouched down to Briar’s eye level and the girl nodded eagerly. “I have a very important task for you,” the girl’s eyes widened. “If you are up to it, that’s it.”
“Of course,” the little girl put her small hands on her shoulders, making the grown-ups laugh a little.
Oh, how sweet was the sight of that smile? “Splendid,” Bubble said. “Would you be my assistant director today?" she asked, her eyes twinkling.
Briar nodded enthusiastically and then looked at her father. “Did you hear Daddy?”
“Yes, sweetie,” Hayden nodded, smiling, something he seemed to not stop doing since the jasmine-scented woman walked through the trailer doors.
“Can I Daddy, can I?” She pleaded, even though she already agreed. “Please, pretty please.” She ran to him and clutched his legs.
Caressing softly her hair, which matched his in tone, “Of course, sweetie.”
Bubble’s heart melted in that instant; she had seen Briar grow through her cell phone screen during their daily Facetime, and seeing her in person, with Hayden treating her so gently, with so much love in his eyes, felt like witnessing the most tender and authentic moments of life, the kind that were too precious and real to be scripted. How I wish I had my camera here.
Without waiting for a second, Briar ran back to her and grabbed her hand. “Okay, I’m ready.” She nodded confidently and looked up at her smiling.
“Perfect,” Bubble touched her nose. “Mr Christensen here, has a little more time in the make-up chair?”
He scrunched his nose at how she called him. It sounded strange coming from her lips, he had been Moose for so long, Starboy prior to that, and Hayden in more personal moments, and he didn’t like to be called anything else than that. Okay, maybe one or two other ways far more personal, but never Mr Christensen.
“I think so, yes.” Briar nodded.
It was true, Hayden sat not long before she arrived and the process stopped entirely when she walked through the door, and he still had to pass through the wardrobe.
“You are correct, Miss Christensen,” he played along.
Bubble smiled widely at the situation. “Very well, we should be going to see if everything is prepared on set and we’ll see you when it’s time to shoot, Mr Chistensen.”
He saw how hard she was trying to keep a serious face, how hard she was pressing her lips to not laugh and how with a simple raise of brow from his part almost made her burst in laughter.
“Very well,” he repeated. “I’ll see you when it’s time to shoot, Directors,” and reassured.
He saw them walk away hand in hand pleased and if it meant seeing the big smile on Briar and Bubble's faces, Hayden would play along for the rest of the day.
After another two hours, Hayden was finally making his way to the set and met Ewan there. “Where’s Bri?” The Scottish looked around.
He told her how his own daughter left him the second Bubble appeared, but rather than being sad, he found the whole thing funny and cute. Loving how despite Briar’s shy ways, much like him, she seemed to shine in the presence of the jasmine-scent-cheerful woman.
“Ah!” Ewan laughed. “Another Christensen falling for our Director’s sweetness I see.”
Before he could question what he meant by that, his eyes fell on the tall and small figures not too far from him, matching headsets around their necks, and as he walked closer he realised that the cap Bubble had when he saw her was no longer in her head but in Briar’s instead. Hayden watched them with a softness in his eyes that hadn’t been there before, but he was sure it was there to stay for the whole day.
The pair pointed at them and Ewan clapped his back, bringing him back from the daydreaming, “Let’s go, they are calling us.”
“Here they are!” Bubble said with a smile on her lips. “Ewan, I want to present to you my number one assistant director, Briar Rose Christensen.”
His friend crouched down a little and shook his daughter’s hand. “Very pleased to meet you, Miss Christensen.”
“Hello,” his little girl sounded so confident and from up close he saw that she was carrying a badge with her name and the “Assistant Director N°1” on it.
His blue eyes found her’s and without uttering a word he conveyed what he was feeling at that moment with a soft smile and she seemed to understand because she smiled just the same and winked an eye again. Unknowingly to him, her hands itched to touch his arm just to make her point clear but chose to restrain from it and just bury them in her pockets.
Oh, how lovely it was to see them interact. How soft and attentive she’s with her, how Bri clings to her side, to her hand and every word that leaves her sweet lips. He witnessed how those two spoke during their daily Facetime, but seeing that in person, how easily they liked and shared things, was something far more beautiful.
They were about to start shooting their scene in the Jedi temple so everyone went to their positions, Hayden stayed back to kiss Bri goodbye for the moment. “Be the best Jedi knight out there, Daddy!” She called sweetly, warming his heart.
“Of course, sweetie.” He kissed her forehead and caressed her hair.
He locked eyes with Bubble and she gestured with her head to the side, making him follow her. “Yeah?”
“First,” she looked him up and down. “It’s really good to see you in Jedi robes,” her fingers traced delicately the black leather material from his sort of Jedi vest.
“Thank you,” he took a small step closer to her, wanting to feel her warm embrace as much as he could. “It feels good to wear them.”
She smiled at him and his knees trembled a little. Surely, it’s jitters from the scene, not for her sweet sweet smile.
“Second,” her voice brought him back. “Are you okay with me asking Briar to be my assistant and the headset thing?” He noticed the nervous ticks on her, and how she played with her nails. “I know it’s late for asking but I got carried away and I want to make the day memorable for her, and and-”
“Bubble,” delicately, he placed his big hands on her small shoulders, his touch calming her down instantly. “It’s more than okay.” He reassured her with a smile, “You are making her day, truly, she hasn’t stopped smiling for a second.”
“She has your smile,” she blurted. Incredible, girl. Tell him how you have his beautiful smile tattooed on your brain. Hayden chuckled and she smiled. Oh, that sweet sound.
He said something but he couldn’t register it, his heart racing too loud inside his chest due to her comment. And after a few seconds of trying to calm it down, he could finally be back to normal. “Relax, everything is fine, Bubble, you didn’t overstep at any moment.”
She exhaled relieved, but his thumbs kept caressing her shoulders softly, leaving a tingling sensation as they traced her skin. “I planned to let her call cut if that's okay with you?”
He smiled, nodding, “She would love it.”
Just like she asked him, Bubble offered the task to Briar as she knelt in front of her, always looking at her eye to eye. “Want to call cut when they finish filming the scene?”
Hayden had the front row to see how his little girl’s eyes shined at the proposition and eagerly she nodded, jumping at the chance. “Of course, yes!”
They all smiled and went to their positions, Ewan and Hayden to their marks while Bubble and Bri were behind the monitors.
From where he was standing, he caught the second she helped the little girl sit in her chair, the director’s chair, how she sat straight, proud to be there, and Bubble, standing next to her, guiding her gently, their heads close together as they discussed the scene while pointing at the screen.
It took him more than usual to get into character, being unable to stop smiling at the pair of girls, his heart beating out of his chest every time his clear eyes fell on them.
Concentrate, Hayden, for fuck’s sake. You are a professional, act like it. She’s your director, nothing more….maybe a dear friend, a very dear one. With a sweet smile and a jasmine scent that you could recognise anywhere, but surely nothing more.
"When I say 'action,' you watch your dad, and when he does that cool move we talked about, you get to yell 'cut!'," Bubble instructed. Briar's role was serious business, and she performed it to perfection, her small voice shouting "Cut!" at the perfect moment confidently, causing the crew to applaud, her father more proudly than anyone there.
In the brief moments between takes, where the crew milled around adjusting equipment and discussing the next scenes, Hayden and Briar found themselves enjoying a moment together, by the monitors, catching up.
Briar was eating her favourite snack, strawberry yoghurt with chocolate cookies, that were suddenly available on set, a thoughtful gesture that didn't go unnoticed by Hayden, as she swung her legs back and forth, her small feet not reaching the ground. Her eyes, wide and observant, had been taking in every detail of the vibrant set, but it was the moments spent with Bubble that seemed to captivate her the most.
"Dad, she's more beautiful in person!" Briar exclaimed with that child-unfiltered honesty, her voice a whisper of awe and fondness for the woman.
Hayden glanced over to where Bubble was standing with a couple of the crew, discussing the next shot. The afternoon light filtered through the high windows, casting a halo around her, softening her features and highlighting her gentle expressions.
His eagerness from the year prior to wanting to see her shine in her element was nothing compared to the satisfaction of being actually there, being witness to her greatness, personally and professionally.
"Yes, she is..." Hayden replied softly, his voice trailing off as he watched Bubble laugh at something one of the crew members said.
How privileged would be the person who gets to hear that sound over and over? COME ON HAYDEN! Where is there professionalism? Long gone now, that's for sure.
Briar giggled, snapping Hayden back from his monologue. "She even showed me how to check the camera angles, and gave me heatseat!" Briar's excitement was palpable, each word punctuated with an enthusiastic bounce. “Did you hear me call cut?”
“I'm glad you're having a good time, sweetie," Hayden responded, his smile tinged with affection. Oh how happy she makes Briar, she’s too sweet for this world.
"She said I was a natural, like you!" Briar continued, unaware of the complex emotions stirring in her father.
Hayden laughed, reaching out to tuck a stray curl behind Briar's ear. "Maybe one day you'll be directing films too, huh?"
"Maybe," Briar mused, "but only if I can do it with Bubble. We'd be the best team!"
"Indeed, you would," Hayden agreed, his gaze drifting once again to Bubble. As if sensing his gaze, Bubble looked over, her eyes meeting his across the distance. And, as it had been since day one, a silent communication passed between them, a shared smile that spoke volumes.
The day was finally coming to an end and Hayden was arriving at Bubble's office to pick Bri up and call it a day, he knocked softly before pushing it open. The room was dimly lit, the only light coming from a small lamp on the desk. There, in a scene that melted his heart instantly, was Briar, asleep with her head resting gently in Bubble's lap. Bubble, with one hand resting on a script and the other lightly stroking Briar's hair, looked up and met Hayden’s eyes with a soft smile. Calm down, you stupid heart.
Bubble carefully shifted, easing Briar's head onto a cushion she placed on the chair, and stood to meet Hayden halfway across the room. They moved in a quiet, shared understanding, their steps soft to not wake up the little girl, who was clearly too exhausted from the day’s adventures.
“She crashed just after you left. It's been quite a day.” Bubble whispered, her smile reaching her eyes.
“Yeah, it has,” Hayden replied, his voice low and warm. “Thank you, for everything today. For making today special, not just for Briar, but for me too.” A soft smile appeared on her lips, paired with red on her cheeks. “It was amazing.” You are amazing. His words lingered in the air, laden with unspoken feelings, hinting at the layers of meaning behind them. “She hasn’t stopped talking about today. You’ve made quite the impression.” He added.
"It's easy to make days special with you two," she replied softly. “I loved every minute of it and I’m glad she did too. She’s wonderful, Hayden.” You're both wonderful. “Just like you.”
Their eyes locked, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still. The air between them was charged with an unspoken understanding, the kind that comes from shared looks and smiles that linger a little too long.
But before anyone took a leap of faith and said what they were feeling, the silence was broken when Bri turned around, mumbling something in her sleep. Hayden nodded towards her, “I should probably get her home. She’ll be wondering where she is when she wakes up.”
She nodded and stepped out of their way, but watched with a smile on her lips how he gently scooped Briar into his arms, careful not to disturb her slumber.
As Hayden held Briar close, Bubble stepped forward, her presence comforting and familiar, the jasmine scent involving him, and leaned in to plant a gentle kiss on Briar’s crown, a tender gesture that made his heart race again.
His blue eyes got lost in hers, they were so calm, so peaceful, that it was just what he was looking for amidst the chaos of his mind, of his heart, he wanted to dive in them and never be found.
Then, standing so close to Hayden that he could feel the warmth of her breath, she raised herself slightly on her tiptoes and placed a sweet, chaste kiss on his cheek. “Goodbye, Hayden,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes holding his for a lingering moment.
Kiss me until I know every millimetre of your lips, but let me keep kissing them in case I forget a detail. The simple kiss sent a ripple of warmth through Hayden’s body, the kind of warmth that spreads slowly but reaches deep. The proximity, her scent, and the feel of her lips on his skin, all conspired to heighten the tension between them.
“Goodnight, Bubble,” Hayden managed to say, his voice steady despite the turmoil inside. With Briar in his arms, he turned towards the door, carrying more than just his daughter, the idea that he was losing the battle between rationality and emotion.
Bubble watched them leave, her hand touching her lips briefly, the memory of the kiss lingering like a promise, like hope. The office felt suddenly too quiet, too empty, but filled with a hopeful anticipation of what tomorrow might bring.
July 2021, fulfilling dreams.
One of the last fighting scenes was coming up and Hayden wanted it to be perfect, so he trained all the time for them, so much that he lost track of it. Long ago he stopped feeling the ache in his limbs, or any sensation at all, and the world outside the four walls of the immense training room he was in disappeared.
Unknown to him, he was not alone. She was leaning on a wall looking at him, lost in the way he moved swiftly around the room, how his muscles flexed. She was fascinated by him, but not only by what he made her feel, in terms of her silly little -not little at all- crush, but by how dedicated he was to his part, by his work philosophy.
The horny part of her was thinking how someone wearing a brown henley and black loose pants could look so fucking sexy, but he could pull it. At some point he tilted his head back, the light hitting on his hair, making his skin glow and her eyes travelled across the curve of his jaw, to his neck to the point where it met with his clavicles, which was showing thanks to the two undone buttons, and she pressed her legs together, gulping.
At the worst time possible, in the silence of the room, she sneezed and he turned around confused as hell. “What the-?” But relaxed when he saw it was only her. “Bless you, Bubble.”
“Thank you,” she had a tight smile on her lips. “Sorry to interrupt you.”
“Not at all,” he cleaned the sweat from his forehead with his shoulder sleeve. “Break from filming?”
She tilted her head to the side, looking at him frowning, “The filming ended hours ago.” At those words, he frowned too. “It’s dark outside, since when are you here?”
He looked surprised. “I don’t know,” She shook her head, walking towards him with a water bottle in her hands, “late afternoon I think.”
“Here,” she passed him the bottle and he smiled at her, putting the lightsaber on her hands. “Well, all those hours worked extremely fine.”
He gulped the water like a dehydrated man. The main thing that was killing her, that was making her so fucking hard to focus, was how his Adam's apple kept bobbling up and down when he swallowed his drink. “You think?” Truth be told, he was insecure about a few things, his performance being one of them.
“Yes” and nodded sure. “From what I see, and from what the stunts and trainers tell me, it’s perfect.” She smiled kindly at him, “You are more than ready.”
“You sure?” What she had to say about his performance, about him, meant a great deal to him.
Taking a few steps closer to him, she maintained eye contact. “You are going to kill it, Hayden. I say this as the director, I can already picture how perfect the scene is going to be.” Those words meant a lot to him, but on top of that, how soft she reassured him was what put a smile on his lips. “And as a fan, I already have chills just imagining how it’s going to look.”
He chuckled at that, “Well, I trust you so I’m going to believe you.” She nodded satisfied and he drank again.
With how close they were, he saw the exhausted look on her face. The mark of her glasses on the bridge of her nose made him want to pass his fingers there, to relax the frown adorning her features. His eyes diverted to her outfit, always loving how she dressed. Tall black sneakers, paired with also black loose leggings and a fitted blue t-shirt, her hair held by a clip in an extremely messy way. Blue eyes traced back to her face, but she was looking at the saber in her hands, a tiny smile on her lips. “What?”
“I’m trying to not let my little me have a mental breakdown,” she said her eyes still not looking at him
The brunette’s lips curved up in a smile. “Why?”
She shook her head, hiding her eyes from him. “It’s lame.”
“No, it’s not.” He said quickly. “Talk to me, Bubble.”
Slowly, her eyes met with his and he could notice right away the sparkle in them, but when she looked at him from beneath her eyelashes, he was almost knocked out of his feet at how much it affected that simple gesture. His eyes fell at her lips the seconds she wet the lower one and made it prisoner of her teeth, his heart started beating uncontrollably. Too fast, too hard, that he was sure she was able to hear it.
“I’ve always wanted a lightsaber, but I never had one, and you're giving me yours, even if it's just to hold it, it’s-” she laughed, shaking her head “It’s…um… I don’t-” she giggled nervously “I don’t know how to explain it.”
You are so cute it had to be criminal. Hayden was seconds away from dropping to his knees from how cute she was, from how giggly and happy she looked.
An idea popped into his brain, putting the bottle of water away, he smiled brightly at her. “I know you say you don’t train, but I’m going to teach you something.” She looked at him frowning. “Anakin’s signature move.”
Her eyes shone like a little kid, “I'll make an exception," he raised his eyebrows. "Only for you." A big smile appeared on her lips and all her tiredness flew away.
Her jasmine scent surrounded him, welcoming him when he stood behind her. His chest touching her back, the great difference of one head gave him the opportunity to look down on her. It would be easier to show it to her and that each of them had a lightsaber? Probably. What was the fun of that?
Oh God. She took a deep breath, his closeness clouding her thoughts. A mere inch in between their skins. “First,” he said in a low hushed voice, “don’t arch your back” he heard her holding her breath, “legs a little open.” Shivers ran through her back as he whispered in her ear. “Now,” slowly, his hand travelled to her left one, “a basic spin.” She nodded, pressing her lips to not let a giggle escape her mouth because his breath tingled her.
His fingers intertwined with hers on top of the base of the saber, “relax.” His fingers travelled lower, to her wrist, “Don’t be stiff.” Gently, he massaged it a little, loosening it. Gently, he started twirling his own hand, it took them a couple of minutes to find the right rhythm. Because, one, she was left-handed and it came naturally to him with his right hand, but with his left one was another thing, and two, it was really hard to concentrate for either of them being that close to the other.
Yeah, the ache he was feeling before? Disappeared, completely. It was nonexistent the second they invaded the other’s personal space.
To the endless list of things he noticed about her add, confirming his theory, that her skin was soft. And yes, her touch shocked him to his very core. A simple hand touch, simple fingers intertwined, made him weak in the knees.
Her lips were a little agape, fully concentrated on the task at hand. After a couple of spins, where he gathered she already mastered it, she was ready for the second step. “Second, you are going to tuck it behind your back pointing your knuckles to the ground.”
“Huh?” She moved her head to the side, looking at him with a frown on her brows.
Their lips centimetres from each other, making it extremely hard to concentrate. For both of them. Lord have mercy on me.
It was like they were in sync, they looked at the other's lips at the same time, not realising what the other was doing. The sudden need to trace the curve of her lips almost overcame him, almost becoming too much for him to breathe properly, to the point his grip on the saber loosened a little but her firm one brought him back to the real world.
“Basic spin,” she led that part, “Point your knuckles to the ground,” his hand guided hers, “and tuck it behind the back.” Delicately, to not injure her, he moved their arms behind their backs. “Got it?” She nodded, liking her lips and that time, he was the one who took a deep breath, earning a little smile from her.
“Now what else?” Master. She asked looking ahead trying to hide her blush, but failing miserably because he could see it.
His hand found his place on her waist, he felt her take a shaky breath, “Turn slightly to the side,” and moved her. The movement made her shirt lift a little, his cold fingers touching her warm velvet skin and a little laugh escaped her lips. “What?”
She pressed her lips together to not laugh, “I’m ticklish,” but failed miserably. Her head fell on his shoulder, her throat completely exposed and Hayden’s eyes fell there, instinctively licking his lips. Oh, that laugh.
Even though she wanted to control her laugh, she couldn't and after a few minutes, when he came out of his entrance with her, he laughed too. His chest rumbled against her back. His masculine laugh made her weak on the knees.
The closeness they were having disappeared, but not because someone took a step away, but because they were glued together, not an inch of space separated them. Who took that step? God knows, but her back was glued to his front, his grip on her hip was gentle but a little possessive.
Finally, their laughter died down. How can I have so much luck and at the same time none? “Show me again, please?” Her tone quivered a little and the most masculine, soft, giggled left her lips. To my very core, thank you.
What he found on her face instead of a frown, was a smile. Not only that, but her eyes were looking at his mouth too. “Knuckles to the ground, tuck behind the back while moving your hip.”
She nodded and did the move. Still guided by him, with his hand on her hip. Hayden’s breath caught in his throat the second the movement of her hips made her ass graze his crotch, he tried to put his mind black, to think about anything else other than the sweet torture he was enduring, other than the tightness he started feeling in his pants. Every touch, every movement, It's overwhelming.
He couldn't ignore the intense physical sensations that surged through his body. The closeness of her body against his sent a jolt of electricity straight to his core. He felt his breath hitch and his heart rate quicken, unable to deny the undeniable attraction he felt towards her. Hayden desperately tried to push these thoughts aside, to suppress the growing desire that threatened to consume him. Looking up, he invoked all his willpower not to succumb to his desires to make his very vivid sexual dreams come true at that precise moment. But deep down, he knew that his sexual dreams were just that— dreams. He couldn't let them cloud his judgement or jeopardise the trust they had built. Control your impulses, Hayden. Stay in control for the love of God.
Feeling his grip losing a bit, her hand grabbed the forearm of the hand that was on her waist. It seemed involuntary, like she was grounding herself and it made his heart start racing. She was intoxicating for him, her mere presence made all around him disappear.
After who knows how long, because he was trying to make his hard-on disappear, her voice reached his ears. “You okay?” She was looking up at him over her shoulder.
Busted. He nodded, clearing his throat. “Yeah, I was about to sneeze and I didn’t want to.” She nodded, not too convinced.
“What now?” The way she was standing, with where their hands were, he was hugging her from behind. His long arms engulfed her small figure.
The mix of his perfume, mint and cigarette impregnated in her skin, clouding her. All around her was Hayden and that was drowning her but calming her at the same time.
“Back to the starting position.” At that point, he was still behind her, hand in hand, because it was too difficult for him to part ways. He was too selfish to do it. “And do it all over again.”
Confidently, she made the whole move successfully. “Oh God.” She looked at him with her eyes widened. “Oh my God!” One more time, she did it. “I did it!” She turned around towards him, face to face, with a big proud smile on her face.
“You did it, Bubble.” He smiled proudly too.
Without thinking twice she jumped into his arms, saber forgotten, along with any clear thought. His arms hugged her by the waist and spun around. Their laughter filled the air, her head tilted to the back and the most beautiful smile on her lips while his eyes admired every second of it.
When her feet touched the ground, his arms were still around her waist making him crouch down a little, her hands on her shoulder. They were breathing the same air, their noses were mere centimetres from touching. She was swimming in his blue eyes, he was living in her lips. Gently, his head tilted to the side, still looking at her lips, and her hands travelled to his neck, her thumbs ghosting his Adam’s apple.
Timidly, they started shorting the distance. Her hands tangled in his hair, and his fingers went under the hem of her t-shirt, touching her skin and making a shiver run down her spine. His eyes caught the moment the tip of her tongue wet her lips and his knees almost gave in.
With how close they were, their eyes met. How beautiful her eyes shine. Not even the calmest, most clear ocean, could compare to those eyes. Slowly, he nuzzled her nose with the tip of his and she closed her eyes pleased, her lashes caressing her cheeks. Her nails ran down his scalp and it was his turn to smile pleased, his head falling back and the feeling of a single wet kiss under his jaw blurred his brain.
He called her name like a prayer, in a whisper, as if it was his only angel and he didn’t want anyone to hear him, to steal her from him. She pressed herself tighter against him. Even with layers of clothes in between them, he could feel her nipples against his chest. The breathless way she said his name, the way she purred it, made him die and go to hell and heaven back twice.
Only the finest of papers could be between their lips, that close they were. Hayden felt the curve of her lips on his, slightly, and that was what brought him back to the real world. What the hell were you thinking? Are you that out of your mind? Painfully, dying inside, he pulled himself apart from her. Putting as much distance as he could because he knew that succumbing to his desires at that moment would be inappropriate and could potentially ruin the sweet relationship that they had built.
Confusion adorned her sweet face. “I’m sorry, Bubble.” She tried to take a step closer to him but he took one back. “I-I ca-I can’t.” His eyes watched how pain took over her features and it was like a knife twisted in his heart. For a few seconds, she looked down. “Bubble-”
Looking at him, with watery eyes, “I get it” She took a step back.
Taking a deep breath, he shook his head. “It’s not like that, I-”
“I’ve got to go.” The way he saw his demeanour change, like that day in October back in 2019, when she built walls inside her, killed him. He never wanted her to build those walls for him to not be able to see her true self, hell he never wanted her to feel any kind of pain and certainly not because of him.
“Goodbye.” No Hayden, no Moose. Simply Goodbye. Well done, idiot. Well, fucking done.
He wanted to scream that it wasn’t her the problem, that his insecure self was the problem. That he wanted her, but his feelings were a mess, that he was a mess. That his last real relationship went so bad that he was afraid of fucking things up with her and losing her.

now that this fic is all published, I can ramble about the things that happen afterward in the timeline! Feel SO free to ask about anything you want more details of.
First off, all three posts about Dave the Balrog are 100% canon to this au, except for where they sometimes contradict the fic's worldbuilding or plot bc I hadn't settled on every detail yet. Also, Dave’s name is probably more like “Drav”, from the Sindarin “drava-”, “to hew.”
That happens much later, though - about 1980 TA. FIRST, immediately, as Celebrimbor says: it's time to save the orcs!
That is, wildly self-indulgent crossover with @ceescedasticity's fic(verse) elves, once, which isn't 100% my headcanon for orcs but it's essentially canon for this au because it makes everything VERY FUNNY in a tragic irony way. I've thought about this so much that it really deserves its own bullet-point post, but highlights include:
- Annatar attempts to conceal the fact that Curufin and Celegorm are orcs, and, y'know, have been since they died. This works until Celebrimbor identifies a bunch of the orc army's weapons as made by his father, even if the style is strange and fell, and the two of the have a HUGE fight in front of representatives of every Elvish kingdom in Middle Earth and most of an army of orcs.
- Bellow/Turgon is having the single strangest, most uncomfortable road trip of his life, and he counts the crossing of the Helcaraxë in that total.
- Turgon tries to convince Galadriel to take Celebrían and Elrond and get out of here, because inevitably this must be a cruel trick and all the orcs will be forced to turn on all the Elves. Galadriel is like, "Honestly, I've been watching Celebrimbor's slow corruption and Sauron's slower un-corruption for about 2,000 years now, and I think we actually have a shot at this. Also, bold of you to assume you can beat me in a fight."
- Curufin and Celegorm had BOOKED IT when Annatar's summoning-compulsion snapped, on the reasonable assumption that any plan the Dark Lord had for them + Celebrimbor could only be cruel to the extreme...so Celebrimbor and Annatar go on a bonus road trip to retrieve them.
- Everyone meets up by the Sea again, but instead of taking (or, obeying) the offer of escape into Ulmo's hands, Turgon and probably a bunch of other orcs volunteer to come help break the Crucible. They Deserve This.
- In the end, as usual, the day is ultimately saved - as are the souls of thousands of trapped elves - by the power of love and overwhelming violence.
AND THEN...
Celebrimbor & Annatar don't actually rebuild Ost-in-Edhil and Eregion as they were. Those days are over, and also the surviving Númenoreans kinda...regard Annatar as Absolute Evil, for some mysterious reason. And those who knew about the whole or even partial conspiracy - namely Tar-Miriel herself - aren't too keen on Celebrimbor, either.
They leave whoever wants to stay and rebuild in Eregion, leadership tbd based on the traditional system of craft-based meritocracy, and take a few decades off to lay low from geopolitics, work on their marriage, and for Celebrimbor to learn a little bit of necromancy so he can manipulate his own fëa and hröa, thank you very much.
They stay with the Witch-Queen of Calador for a while, discreetly because officially that kingdom is also not on good terms with its “former” evil-ish overlord. (The Witch-Queen of Calador and her not really sane, almost certainly unsafe, but arguably consensual relationship with Annatar really deserves her own post, too. She’s my favorite OC of this au. She really loves bats.)
Elrond & Celebrían get married! Elrond always knew his wedding would have to involve stopping drunken brawls from erupting between people who love him but hate each other, but he’d assumed it’d be Iathrim and Fëanorians, not an elderly Queen Miriel going for Annatar’s eyes with a butter knife.
Annatar regards the birth of Elrohir and Elladan with some concern, this alarming lineage now augmented by the blood of Arafinwë (cut off Melkor’s foot) and Galadriel (Melian’s pupil, hates him). But that’s nothing to how freaked out he is by Arwen, who is such an obvious Reprise of Lúthien that it’s now CLEAR that this was all a Melian scheme to assault him, personally.
He can’t just kill her now—Elrond and Galadriel and both right here, not to mention Celebrimbor. And then she’d absolutely be his enemy when she Returned… No, the only solution is to stay in Imladris for a while and become her most beloved uncle whom she would not dream of assaulting, whom she could not bring herself to injure even if circumstance and conscience forced her hand. Love has ever been the undoing of Melian’s line. The Reprise is obvious, but not so established that he cannot twist it into irony, Lúthien’s heir as his devoted student and companion rather than foe.
[smash cut to late 3rd Age Annatar watching the Music settle into place as Arwen interacts with the newest, currently toddling scion of the House of Elendil and nearly killing the child right then because no, no, thats not how this was supposed to Reprise—that’s his jewel of an elf-queen, Singer and trade-manipulator and niece, and he’s going to lose her forever? Killing the brat won’t even work, that would only make her follow him sooner, one way or another—]
Celebrimbor doesn’t want to build a city (and have his heart broken by the loss of the city) again, but he very much does want to ImproveThe World, and also to Make Things With His Hands. So he and Annatar, and whoever of the Gwaith-i-Mírdain wish to join them, set about… “Traveling” is too loose a term; just because they’re not city-building doesn’t mean anyone here wants to live on the road. They need workshops, forges, and ideally a maia-sized cat tree tall tower from which to survey their domain. They are a highly skilled work crew/technical, artistic & management consultants who change cities every 5-200 years, throughout Middle Earth and perhaps even other continents.
This what Celebrimbor and Annatar do, for most of the rest of their time in Middle Earth. A few of the Mírdain travel with them all the time. Others strike out on their own, or in similar small groups. Others stay in rebuilt Ost-in-Edhil, or Rivendell or the Havens or another Elvish kingdom, and come lend a hand when their particular talents are called for. Everyone who “died” in Númenor and was “resuscitated” by Annatar walked away with a strengthened, basically permanent osanwë connection to the simulated workshop group chat, which they’re aware of, and a location tracker and fëa-stamp saying “PROPERTY OF MAIRON, FUCK AROUND AND YOU WILL FIND OUT” which only an Ainu could detect.
They're the mysterious stranger(s) who accept an offer of hospitality on a stormy night and reward you with a magic ring that blesses your farm with fecundity. They arrive in a city in the middle of a cholera outbreak and inform the local rulers that they're here to overhaul the whole wells & sewers system in exchange for room and board; no, the local rulers do not get a choice in this. One time they do oust an evil ruling dynasty and just kinda take over the kingdom for a few centuries, but then Celebrimbor starts to get paranoid of his own growing attachment so Annatar reluctantly agrees to find and raise some honorable candidate for kingship [gender-neutral]. One of the Mírdain with them says, what about the choice of the people? And then after a lot of discussion, partly in collaboration with their local Men, they write up and seal with Power a Constitution that establishes an oversight body of political, economic, craft and etc. experts to oversee and have veto power over popular elections to kingship from a slate of candidates chosen by the current/soon-to-be previous king, on a strict thirty-year schedule. There, that should stabilize the whole messy business of mortal succession!
Also, 1300 years or so into the Third Age when this version of Gondor hits its equivalent of the Kin-Strife, Annatar takes advantage of its weakness to initiate a plan he's been contemplating for a while, especially while gaining local insight into a variety of nation-states and their management, and returns to Oroduin to forge what may he his last Great Work...a new standard of currency.
It’s called, in the common tongue developing from Adúnaic and Sindarin, the “mira”, pl. “miran”, from Quenya “mírë” (“jewel, precious thing). Where pettier currencies are based in gold or silver or the might of some particular empire, these hold value Because a Great Maia Said So—indeed, Sang So, Sang a new line into the Great Music that these coins would always have a value of…whatever he said so, if he updated a petty lyric or two of their Song. Those who use the coins don’t need to know this; they simply intuit, with coins in hand, what they are worth.
(You can lead even the mightiest empire by the nose if you control the price of grain alone, much less other commodities, or one currency relative to another. Each minute adjustment takes Power, especially to shift the natural balance of multiple interlocking goods…but Annatar is a master of the perfectly placed lever with which to shift the world.)
Maybe at some point the Valar are like, “okay, I think they don’t irrationally hate us anymore, I think this could work” and send a small group of Maiar to openly, humbly approach Annatar and Celebrimbor and ask if they might be apprentices in the craft of…whatever the fuck is happening here. Or maybe something adjacent, because Pallandro and Alatar would really like to fuck off into those excellent looking woods and hunt the remnants of Ungoliant’s spawn, and Radagast actually wandered away 5 minutes ago to talk to a bird. He’s gonna be a while. But Curumo and Olórin are listening politely!
…Or maybe not. Maybe it’s just the Jewelsmiths, slowly becoming folklore, bettering the world (and manipulating wide-scale economics) one stone at a time. (They’d still be the “Jewelsmiths” anyway, even if they included those who, in another universe, were called “The Wise.”)
As stated in the third Dave the Balrog post, they do Sail eventually, several centuries after Arwen’s death. Celebrimbor just gets tired, and Annatar can’t fix it. Ossë spends the whole voyage backstroking next to their ship and sarcastically quoting Annatar back at himself, Years of the Trees insults about being made weak and pathetic by love, until Annatar nearly lunges over the side as a wolf to tear his throat out.

For @jilytoberfest Bittersweet Challenge.
It was a crisp autumn morning, and Lily Potter had decided that today she would treat her family. She had asked James if it was okay for him to stay with Harry as she went to the market. James did not mind agreeing, even when he seemed a bit down lately he adored Harry and the time they spent together.
Lily wanted to cheer James, lately he had not been himself, he was usually loud and always wanted to make other people laugh, but after the McKinnon’s deaths, and the fact that they needed to find a secret Keeper, little by little James’ good nature chipped away.
He was still a great man that loved his family above all, he was a good man that wanted to help in the war, but all in all a trapped James was a dim one, and Lily wanted to do something to bring back some joy.
Maybe they couldn’t go out as before, but that didn’t mean that they had to have a boring existence until the war was over. That was why Lily was on a mission to find the ingredients for a proper feast.
She entered the supermarket with a list of ingredients and a plan in hand.
She grabbed butter and eggs, and looked for the treacle around, as a very distinctive memory popped in her head.
The Great Hall was always full and messy as always. People were arriving from winter break and you could see the excitement of reuniting with friends, sharing new stories that happened over the short time where you didn’t see each other.
Lily was amongst those students, but there was not much to share. Petunia had decided to stop all pretences that she liked Lily, she wasn’t terrible when people were around, but when they were alone, Lily’s sister made sure to let her know how much she disliked her.
Still, she loved being home, seeing her parents and eating the food her mother made, which she couldn’t enjoy while at Hogwarts. But now that she was back in the castle she realised that she also missed the Elves’ cooking.
The table was filled with warm and cosy food to receive the students. The roast was fulfilling and made her feel somewhat back at home, however, there was something that she adored that the Elves made, and that was the treacle tart. It was the right amount of sweet to calm her sweet tooth, and if you heated it and requested some ice cream it tasted just like heaven.
Lily had her mind set on grabbing the last piece. Yet, when she turned to the serving plate there was another set of hands snatching it.
James Potter, the bane of her existence, just held the tart on his plate, Lily could just look at him as if she could hex him with a glance, and James could just blink at her.
“Alright, Evans?” he asked.
Lily wanted to rant how things were not alright and how he had taken the little slice of heaven, the last one, but didn’t seem remorseful or anything wrong with it. “Yeah.” she replied, defeated. She couldn’t give Potter the satisfaction of seeing her down. “Just looking for some dessert.” she added, glancing around but nothing seemed as appealing.
“Oh, you wanted the tart?” he asked, clueless as ever, regardless he actually sounded genuine.
Lily had known him to take advantage of situations like this to ask her out, she preferred to save them both the hassle.
“You can have it.”
“For a price, I assume.” Lily replied, not interested in playing games.
“Wow, Evans, that hurt.” James said with a playful smirk, “A genuine ‘thank you’ would suffice.” he still had the smirk on his face, and Lily could only blink.
“Thank you.” she said sincerely, still a bit wary.
“Don’t mention it.”
From that point onwards, James always seemed to have the last piece of tart, Lily was never as fast as everyone else finishing her meal. It became sort of a tradition for them to banter for a bit, until one day Lily surprised herself and asked if they should share the piece instead of fighting for it. Then she discovered that this was not an intricate plot to talk to her, but James Potter was as obsessed with the tart as she was.
After that night, either James or Lily would make sure that they saved a piece for each other, and ended each supper in conversation, instead of banter.
That was one of Lily’s fondest memories, as it was when she started seeing James for more than the obnoxious guy that she thought he was before, and it was the reason that was one of the first recipes she asked the Elves to teach her how to make.
She continued her trip at the supermarket and saw the autumn ciders ready to be grabbed. Remembering fondly one of their Hogsmeade dates she grabbed a couple.
The last thing on her list was something not entirely from Hogwarts, but it was what they ate at James’ home the night Lily met them. She was a nervous wreck and her palms wouldn’t stop sweating, but James was there, next to her, as a calming presence, taking her hand and squeezing it, letting her know it was okay.
Mr and Mrs Potter were two of the sweetest people Lily had ever met. They dotted over the couple and teased their son endlessly about how James couldn’t stop talking about Evans and they could finally put a face to the name.
Fleamont learned of her passion for potions and showed her his lab. In there he had scribbles to make his own potions better, but also how the treatment of certain ingredients could improve other recipes. The room was filled with ingredients, cauldrons and ideas all around. It was like a dream come true.
Euphemia, on the other hand, showed her their gardens where they grew not only flowers but ingredients for the potions, showing that there was more than one way where Monty and Mia complimented each other.
That afternoon they ate roast grouse, something that Lily hadn’t tasted before, but fell in love instantly. The dish was warm, flavourful, it wasn’t hard on the palate, and she didn't know how to explain it but it tasted of love. Like someone had put the time and effort to make this not only delicious but heartwarming.
It was the kind of meal that she wanted to learn. To convey love for her family with a simple and hearty meal.
She learned that day it was James’ favourite dish and she could understand why.
After James had proposed, she spent many afternoons learning from Euphemia, not only how to make the dish, but so many things that only a magical mother could teach. She loved her mother dearly but she was curious about having an all magical home, and Euphemia was eager to show her.
Mia was a patient woman. She taught Lily how to improve spells and wards, how magic was also in the mundane, and of course how to make the roast. She taught her how to select the game, cut the vegetables, season everything and the times of cooking of each element for it to maintain their scenes and bring the best of it.
It reminded her how her mother and her used to bake and the time they shared together, enjoying each other’s company and learning from each other. To share knowledge and love with one simple gesture.
They only ate the roast on a few occasions, and only made by Euphemia. They had it the day they announced Lily was pregnant with Harry. She remembered she hadn’t been able to keep anything down for a few days now, and she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to keep this meal either. It wasn’t just the morning sickness, it was the nerves of telling them that not even a year into the marriage they were having a baby. The evening went smoothly, the grandparents-to-be overjoyed with the news, and Lily realised after eating that it was the first meal she had managed to keep all week.
Remembering that moment, Lily realised that it had been the last time they had eaten the roast. A few months after that Mia and Monty passed away and Lily had not been able to make the dish. Today would be the first time, and she hoped that it would be like the last time they had it, and she would be able to keep down the meal as she told James the news she had for him.
Arriving home with her hand full of bags she greeted her two favourite boys, moved to the kitchen and looked at what would be the battleground for that day. Her wand moved to start cleaning the things from breakfast, to get a clean slate to start meal prepping.
She was so focused on preparing the kitchen that she didn’t hear James and Harry enter.
“Momma!” Harry ran towards her.
“He missed you,” James explained, “We both did.” He smiled at her, knowing that they spent every single moment together, but it was good to know she was home and safe and not worrying about what might have happened.
Lily smiled back and picked Harry up, “What did you do with Dada while I was out?”
“Play!” Harry replied enthusiastically, “I broom!”
That broom was Harry’s favourite toy, it seemed like he always wanted to ride it.
Lily chuckled at the reply, “You are just like your dad, always in the clouds.” she teased.
It was James time to chuckle. “He had to get something from me, everything else is all you.” he joked back, looking at the amount of food. “Are we having a party that I didn’t know about?”
“Tonight we are having a feast.” she declared, looking at James’ questioning face, “Don’t you worry about a thing, I’ll prepare everything, you just need to keep the little one occupied.”
James took Harry from Lily’s arms, “I think I can do that. Just scream if you need any help.”
Lily knew the roast would take longer to cook, she needed to make sure the meat was properly seasoned and done, so she dedicated herself to it.
“Never be afraid of seasoning, dead. Season is measured with heart not tools.” Lily remembered Mia’s advice as she added the herbs that they had grown in their back garden. It wasn’t as big as Euphemia but they were still honouring her somehow.
Lily moved with precision as she prepped the meal. She knew she needed to get the game in before anything, but still had the vegetables all ready to get them in in time to be properly cooked. Deciding that she could do two things at once se started the treacle tart, slowly timing what needed to be done and what could be put aside.
“You want to first add the wet ingredients and then gently fold the dry ones. That’s what would make it smooth and grow evenly.” It was time for her mother’s advice to pop in this time. Remembering that baking was more precise, just like potions, and maybe that was why she liked it so much as it reminded her of home.
Finally all that remained to do was wait.
She grabbed the previously spiced cider and moved to the living room where James was playing with Harry. They had toy cars that bumped into each other. She hated that they were in hiding but adored the little peace her family gave her.
James looked up at her and smiled, “It smells delicious, sure you don’t need any help?”
Lily shook her head, “It’s almost done. We just need to wait for it all to cook.”
“What sparked this?” James asked curiously, sitting up with her, grabbing the mug, smiling at the content.
Lily sighed, “We’ve been too focused on being trapped here, I thought we could recreate something I know we both love. Hogwarts feast, minus a few things.” she chuckled.
“You didn’t have to do this.” He said appreciative.
“I know, but I wanted to.”
There was a moment of silence, a moment where Lily knew she could tell James the news. They had been so focused on the bad things on the paranoia of it all, but this was good news.
Her mouth opened to speak, when the door magically opened, giving space for Lord Voldemort to enter.
The colour on both James and Lily’s face drained, their nightmares had become true, the one person they were running from was there in their house, and too many thoughts passed through their heads: how was he able to enter the house? What happened to the wards? What did he do to Peter?
They didn’t have time to ponder much, as Voldemort approached them.
“Lily, take Harry and go! It’s him! Go! Run! I’ll hold him off —”
Lily didn’t think it twice and was up the stairs as James fumbled to find his wand, but he didn’t care, even if he had to become Prongs and stampede the son of a bitch he would.
But he didn’t have the time, James' body hit the floor after a green light, and Lily did everything in her power to not scream his name, trying not to get their location.
She hid them in Harry’s room, she tried to get her wand but remembered she left it in the kitchen with the meal she was preparing. She needed a way out, something to get Harry out, but she was running out of time.
She put Harry on the cot while she moved every piece of furniture she could get to block the door, and looked for something that would aid her. They were on the second floor, but maybe she could try to use some wandless magic and jump. Could she do it? Could she safely land and protect Harry? With her nerves on edge she thought she wouldn’t be able, but she had to try, right?
She was about to grab Harry when the door blasted open and Voldemort was staring right at her.
“Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!” She pleaded.
“Stand aside you silly girl… stand aside now.” Voldemort’s voice could be heard, Harry’s sense of peril activated and he started to cry.
“Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead —” Lily pleaded once more, “Not Harry! Please… have mercy… have mercy… ” but her pleas fell in deaf ears as Voldemort casted the killing curse, her body lying limp on the floor.
Voldemort casted the curse for the third time that evening, but it did not land as expected. It bounced off Harry's skin and back to him, leaving a train of burnt wallpaper and charred furniture. There would be no one at the house for a few more hours, the smoke from the curse and the kitchen attracting the attention of everyone around. The evening ruined, just like the house, and Lily’s Halloween feast.

I’ve seen your art around a few times, and it is stunning! How are you able to create such distinctive character designs (I saw the sot ones and they’re beautiful, especially Kenny)?! It’s incredible
Thank you friend :-)
OMGDHDGG#&$&-$&$&#&&$&$ HIIIIIIIII 💖💖💖💖 I LOVE UR MULTIVERSE FIC/AU <33333 UR AWSOME??????#-_?#&!;#&#&
sorry about thar,, anwyay
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!! 😭💖💖💖
about my character designs especially for my fantasy au, i wanted to make each of the main 4 shine (and at least basically make each of them equally the main character,, tho i think i failed a bit since its obvious i liked princess kenny more lol)
in context they're all pretty important figures in the story, each leading their own faction so i think it just made sense that i would make them all have their own distinct fashion styles and vibes,
and since they're the first designs i made for this au i wanted to establish a style/vibe for each faction so i can have a guide on other characters belonging to those factions,
-like kyle's design having floral patterns and intricate clothing to show the long standing culture of the elves, i wanted to make him look the most traditional so i opted to give him A LOT of detailed patterns than he did in canon
-or a very simple and practical design for stan to show that unlike the others he (and his faction) focuses more on fighting and combat than being fashionable and presentable to the public, so i gave him simple clothing that isn't really too far from his actual canon design
-for cartman i wanted to emphasize his star motifs more and push more on his individuality as a wizard, in my au kupa keep is a freshly new faction in comparison to the elven kingdom so I really went hard on making his design focus on himself rather than his faction (which is honestly pretty in character now that i realize lol)
- and lastly princess kenny, i wanted to make a design that screams "i will go to war for her" considering her famous reputation for gaining followers simply for her looks and charms, and obviously with a very anime fantasy inspired design
im really glad i could share these 😭, i put a lot of thought, time and effort for these designs so thanks so much for asking this literally !!! i could go on for days on how i designed them 💔
(also sorry if this isn't the answer you're looking for 😔 this is the first thing i thought of lol)
but rlly tho tysm im glad to hear that especially from u oh my goodness i actually freaked out and almost screamed in my classroom when i saw this ask 😭😭

hiya hope you’re having a good day! Imma send you a writing request (no pressure ofc!)
Reader being best friends/close friends with the members of the fellowship
I’m a little more inclined towards platonic x readers so that’s why I’m requesting this!
have a nice day!
Absolutely! I don’t know if this is how you wanted this written or the context of the friendship (like on the journey or in general what they are like as friends so I kinda did both and it’s really pretty disorganized) so I apologize if it isn’t what you were hoping for
The Fellowship as reader’s BFF
Aragorn:
-Loyal friend that you don’t see much but always pick up where you left off
-Being a ranger kinda calls for that
-Unless you are friends from ranger work then I imagine you would go with him whether he liked it or not
-Probably gets frustrated at you for being reckless but it’s only because he can’t handle the idea of you getting hurt
-Doesn’t want you to join the fellowship, but if you do he would be secretly a glad to have a familiar face with him
Legolas:
-Cheeky bastard, can totally be flirty but it is totally platonic and just for fun
-Lives to sneak up on you and scare you
-Friendly banter, people can’t tell if you hate each other or love each other, but you guys are bffs and love that people are confused
-Would be glad to have you join the fellowship as he doesn’t really know anyone else yet
-Might be a little jealous if you make friends with the others, but you reassure him he is still your best friend and won’t lose that title
-Power trio with Gimli
Gimli:
-Sheep in a wolfs clothes
-A rabid and deadly sheep, but a sheep, but only you know this
-Competition for everything
-Very proud of his friendship and takes it very seriously
-He isn’t concerned if you join the fellowship because you can totally hand yourself
-Talks smack about elves to you, but he is fully aware Legolas can hear him
Boromir:
-Such a loyal friend
-I know he is outgoing and everything, but for some reason I don’t imagine him having many friends
-Or lots of friends, but not many that are actually people he will open up to
-So he holds your friendship so close to his heart
-Definitely asks your advice on how to talk to girls (doesn’t matter your gender)
-Big brother energy even if you are older than him
Frodo:
-The friend that you never ever get sick of
-He always matches your energy or at least understands where you are at mentally
-Like if you are having an off day and are a moody he totally understands and won’t be offended
-Will do his best to cheer you up but also understands sometimes you just need a day to brood
-Nervous if you join the fellowship but also relieved to have you there along with the other hobbits
Sam, Merry, & Pippin:
-I am grouping these guys together as I think their relationship with you would be very much like it is with Frodo
-Loyal beyond measure and always have your back
-Definitely will make jokes at your expense but it’s out of love
-Will call your bullshit and are brutally honest, Sam maybe less because he is scared to be mean
I’m sorry this really kinda sucks but I wasn’t really sure of what to write, but I wanted to get it out as I was so excited to have a request so thank you! I may update it if I get inspired for something to add :)

your memory is ecstasy
Pairing: Richard Jackdaw x f!MC
Word Count: 2.4k
Rating: E
Warnings: 18+, aged-up characters, explicit sexual content, dirty talk, mutual masturbation, fingering, voyeurism, Sex With A Ghost
Summary: i blame the jackdaw girlies for this one (i love you all). pretty much just a couple thousand words of Sex With A Ghost™
“Someone like me, I can only look,” he tells you softly. “I’ll never touch.” “Looking is something, I suppose,” you reply. “If – if you wanted, I’d let you look.” “You would, hmm?” he murmurs as he leans toward you. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a tempting offer. Years, in fact.” “That’s a shame,” you answer as your eyes dart down to his lips. “Let me, then.”
Most of the time, the detention chamber in the dungeons beneath the Great Hall is one of the coldest rooms in the entire castle. On nights like this, however, with countless ghosts congregating just down the hallway, there’s an additional chill in the air.
At Sir Nicholas’ invitation, you’d joined the Headless Hunt for one of their frequent parties deep beneath the castle. Your thoughtful offering of some rotten roast beef from the kitchens had been much appreciated by the men of the Hunt, but it wasn’t long after you arrived that the gaggle of ghostly women in their centuries-old fashions started to draw their eyes toward the dance floor.
One who doesn’t float toward the center of the room is Richard Jackdaw. Instead, he sits in an alcove far away from the ghostly banquet table, and when you make your way over to politely thank him once more for his help in your search back in your fifth year, he invites you to join him for a pint.
“Do the house elves bring you this mead?” you ask curiously, pouring yourself a mugful from a very real bottle on the table.
“I’m not actually sure where it comes from,” he answers. “But whenever a live one such as yourself joins us and pours some, it’s always fun. Makes this wretched dungeon smell a lot more like a real pub.”
“Well, then I’m happy to be of service,” you say as you raise your glass in cheers to him.
The two of you fall into an easy conversation while you drink. You ask him questions about his postmortem adventures with the Hunt, and he listens as you tell him about your more recent explorations along the Clagmar Coast.
“May I ask, what does your Slytherin paramour think about all this adventuring?” he asks you with a cheeky grin. “I see you didn’t bring him this evening.”
“O-oh, we’re not – I’m not courting anyone,” you quickly explain. “We’re just friends.”
“I think that may be news to the poor young man,” Richard laughs. “But I’ll take your word for it.”
Eventually, the more boisterous members of the Hunt kick up a frenzy as they argue over the outcome of their latest journey to the Forbidden Forest, challenging each other to duels with their transparent swords drawn.
“What do you say we continue this conversation somewhere a bit quieter?” Richard offers. “I’ve no interest in participating in yet another pointless skirmish.”
“I know a place,” you offer, and moments later he joins you in the detention chamber, luckily devoid of any delinquent students at this late hour.
As you place an anti-unlocking charm on the door, you call out, “I suspect you probably spent many hours here as a student.”
“Guilty as charged,” he laughs.
You take a seat in the middle of the room on the cold tile floor. Compared to the ghosts’ party, this room feels several degrees warmer, and the cool stones feel quite nice against your palms as you sit cross-legged across from Richard, who floats a few millimeters above the ground.
“They’ve been particularly restless lately,” he says apologetically, nodding in the direction of the dungeon party. “Always trying to show off, especially when one of the most beautiful living girls in the castle chooses to grace us with her presence.”
You blush softly and duck your head.
“I could watch you blush all day,” he says boldly. “What a breathtaking thing it is to blush — to be alive, really.”
Suddenly you can understand how Richard earned himself his reputation as a shameless rake in his time.
“Were you this flirtatious during your time?” you ask him, unable to hide your grin. “You and your Apollonia?”
He snorts derisively. “Apollonia was never mine, in any sense of the word.”
That makes you pause, curious.
“Richard,” you ask softly. “Have you ever… when you were alive, were you ever, er – with a woman?”
“Was I with a woman?” he asks, bemused. “Do you mean in the company of women? Quite a few, as it happens.”
“No,” you say, laughing nervously. “I – I meant, did you ever know a woman? Biblically.”
You’re thankful that the semi-darkness of the room hides how your blushing cheeks go even redder.
“Ah,” he murmurs. “You mean sexually.”
“I do,” you whisper. “It’s… just that you seem–”
“I wasn’t,” Richard interjects. “In my time, a century ago now, it wasn’t appropriate. I hadn’t married, I wanted to finish school first, and… and I thought I’d have plenty of time.”
“You should have,” you say softly.
“That’s my own damn fault,” he says with a rueful grin. “But it’s neither here nor there. To answer your question, I never had any relations with a woman. I’d wanted to, especially with Apollonia, and in a vague sense with plenty of gorgeous women I knew back then.”
You shift a bit, drawing your knees closer together. “So, you… you never even saw a woman?”
Richard purses his lips. “Well, I shan’t say that.”
“Oh?” you ask.
“Being a ghost does come with some perks,” he teases. “Over the years I’ve drifted in and out of countless spaces that amorous couples thought would be private. I’ve even been invited into some such spaces by curious schoolgirls like you.”
“Richard!” you squawk. “You’ve had affairs with students?!”
“Don’t sound so surprised,” he teases you. “Darling, you’re hardly the first witch to develop a crush on this ill-fated adventurer.”
You pout and lean in closer. The cold emanating from his body is strange, but not unwelcome.
“Someone like me, I can only look,” he tells you softly. “I’ll never touch.”
“Looking is something, I suppose,” you reply. “If – if you wanted, I’d let you look.”
“You would, hmm?” he murmurs as he leans toward you. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a tempting offer. Years, in fact.”
“That’s a shame,” you answer as your eyes dart down to his lips. “Let me, then.”
Richard watches you with dark eyes as you carefully stand up from the floor. He tugs his ascot loose while you slip your dress up over your head, and he smiles amusedly when you tap the tip of your wand against your back to make your corset go slack.
“If there’s a silver lining to becoming a ghost,” he drawls, “it’s that I’ve been given the chance to see how fashion for you witches has become more and more revealing over the years.”
“I’ve heard Muggle women are bringing up their skirts higher and higher,” you tease him, mimicking your words by pulling the slip of your chemise up to the tops of your thighs.
As you tug the garment up over your head and let it fall to the ground, Richard sits back on his hands and nods toward his lap – a blatant invitation. While you can’t actually sit, you’re able to kneel across his opaque form as if you were straddling him. The cold emanating from his body isn’t bothersome like this, you think; it’s more like a soothing balm, against your skin where you’re radiating heat.
“Can you feel that?” you ask him softly. “Where I’m warm?”
“No,” he tells you, and it’s the first time you’ve seen him look downcast all evening. “But I can see you.”
With your pile of clothes happily abandoned, you’re fully nude straddling his form. Where other men might ordinarily put their hands on you, you’re left wanting for touch. Nevertheless his pale eyes roam over your form and fill you with a heat that seems inconceivable given his ghostly pallor.
“Lovely,” he says appraisingly. “What I’d give to feel you, feel the weight of you on top of me.”
“Richard,” you sigh happily. “Tell me more.”
“Hmm, what should I tell you?” he wonders aloud. “Would you think me wicked if I told you how much I wish I could press my lips to your breast until you’re writhing in my lap?”
“No,” you whine. “No, I wouldn’t, I want you to.”
“Touch yourself, then,” he instructs.
Richard groans under his breath while you cup your breasts in your hands, tracing your thumbs across your hardening nipples until they peak so temptingly just in front of his mouth. You know you’re getting wet between your thighs, and you wonder what will happen when your arousal becomes so much that you threaten to drip – ordinarily you’d simply stain your lover’s trousers with it, but this time you suspect you’ll leave a filthy mess on the floor.
The thought makes you squirm and moan.
“That’s it,” Richard murmurs. “Now, do you like touching yourself elsewhere, dear one?”
“Yes,” you admit with a shy smile. “Though now every time I do, I’ll imagine a deviant ghost may be watching me.”
“You won’t need to imagine,” he says cheekily. “Will you show me?”
You sit back on your heels before sitting down on the cold floor, letting your legs spread while you prop yourself up with one hand. Your other hand traces down the front of your body to the apex of your thighs. When you touch your entrance and discover how slick you are already, you shiver.
“Merlin’s beard,” he grits out. “Your cunt looks positively greedy. I’m sure you’d take me so well, wouldn’t you?”
“Yes,” you keen, hungrily eyeing his translucent hand as he reaches toward your body.
Richard scoffs under his breath. “Men like Nicholas, the others in the Hunt, they’ve had actual lifetimes to enjoy the body of a woman.”
You shiver as he traces his fingertips along the inside of your thigh, goosebumps rising in the wake of his supernaturally chilling, yet not-quite-there touch.
“They’ve had conquests, they’ve had… love, I suppose,” he continues. “But not me.”
“Richard,” you whimper, high and needy and utterly shameless.
“And now, they spend their days and nights trying to coax you sweet, obliging little schoolgirls into bringing them rotten meats,” he says, a derisive sneer on his lips. “As if we even have appetites for food anymore. Trust me, lovely, that sort of thing fades.”
He shifts closer while you rub slow circles over your clit, watching how your mouth falls open in pleasure.
“But this, this never fades,” Richard confesses. “If I could put my lips to your skin and taste you here.. Darling, I’d sooner starve rather than chase the taste of anything else on my tongue.”
“Come closer,” you plead. “Just – as close as you can.”
You sit back on one elbow and keep your other hand between your thighs. With your fingers you spread yourself open, gasping softly as the cold air reaches the sensitive skin near your entrance.
“Bloody hell,” he grumbles. “You’re a fierce temptress, love.”
He leans in close to the apex of your thighs — so close that the tip of his nose could trace along the delicate crease of your hip, if he could truly lay his hands on your skin.
“I could swear I can smell you,” he says in a low voice. “Merlin, you smell like… like musk, and sweat, and skin. Sex. All this humanity, I could get drunk on it.”
“I wish you could taste me,” you confess. “I wish you’d put your tongue on me – in me, even.”
“I would,” he tells you. “I’d pleasure you however I could, with my mouth or my hands or… Anything you like, I’d give it to you.”
You slide two fingers inside yourself, curling them inward and whimpering as you press against the sensitive spot deep inside you that makes you wail when you’re alone in your bed, Muffliato cast to keep your roommates none the wiser.
“I want to see you,” you admit to him. “C-can you – are you able to…?”
“Yes,” he tells you. “Yes, I can touch myself. Shall I show you?”
You grind the heel of your palm against your clit while Richard opens the front of his trousers. When he sits back on his knees between your thighs, he lets you take a look at his hard length.
“Merlin, I want to touch you,” you sigh. “Or taste you.”
Richard smirks at you as he starts to slowly stroke himself. “I’ll have you know, I used to wonder whether women craved men’s bodies the way we so desperately crave yours. Women in my time would never dream of admitting it, but you nineteenth-century girls are so… eager.”
For a while you both fall silent, letting the other watch while you bring yourselves pleasure with your hands. Richard’s eyes are fixed firmly on your entrance as you pump two and eventually three fingers inside yourself, desperate moans tumbling from your lips. While he watches, he fucks his hand in time with your movements. What little you can see of his core is taught and well defined, and you think it’s an unbearable shame that he was killed before he had the chance to use his body for what it seems to so clearly have been built for.
“Please,” you beg, for nothing in particular. “Please, Richard.”
“Go on, love,” he grunts. He sounds for all the world like one of today’s wizards – alluring, commanding, firm. “Show me, I want to see you let go.”
You collapse onto your back as your orgasm is wrenched from you, arching against the stone while you buck against your hand and, as you’d predicted, leave a telltale mess on the ancient floor. Richard leans over you and drags his eyes down the length of your body before squeezing them shut and coming into his hand with a broken moan.
(There’s no mess from him, which isn’t really a surprise, but is still dissatisfying.)
After you’ve both redressed and have found a new spot on the floor to sit side by side, you ask him, “Is it… when you, er, climax, is it as good as when you were alive?”
“Quite honestly, I can’t remember,” he says with a laugh. “I suspect the answer is no, but since it’s been so long, I’m content with what I’ve got.”
“So what you’re saying is that we could do this again?” you ask with a teasing smile. “Perhaps tomorrow night, after everyone’s gone to bed…?”
“I’ll come find you,” he promises you with a matching grin on his lips. “Of course, you needn’t wait for me to get started, should you feel inspired.”
You whisper back, “If fact, I may do just that.”

Dungeon Meshi Volume 9 Part 1
Welcome back! I hear you loud and clear. Cover images are fine, as long as they aren't actively spoilery. Now, join me for a very interesting volume!
Today, we go on an ADVENTURE!
It's a good thing you're both so naturally good looking, cause neither of you can style for shit.
As much as I love their relationship, Marcille is definitely pretty controlling, especially early on here. She does improve a lot by the end of the manga though.
Can't really blame them. Between the Asivia disaster, and just, elves in general (Seriously, name a single elf in this story who isn't problematic in some way.), they are right to be wary. I like how each of them has a particular hangup with her. Chilchuck is particularly worried about another Asivia, Shuro doesn't want a total noob, and Namari is a dwarf about it.
They're just such good friends guys.
Thank you random background NPC for agreeing with me.
An important image.
God, I love my two idiot children.
Gosh dang it Dandan, so it was your fault? Also, I have to wonder how medical fraud works in a world with healing magic. Like, what could be possibly be pretending to have that Falin couldn't heal?
You were only mostly dead. And mostly dead, means a little alive.
Lol
Seriously, of all our main characters, she's the only one whose relative age I can't really figure out. Honestly, at this point, I'm starting to suspect she is reletively younger than Falin. Half-elves sure are confusing! While most of the other races have maturity rates proportional to their average lifespan, Half-elves age quicker than elves, but have a much longer lifespan. So who knows.
Three guesses what he does literally two seconds later. The last two don't count.
You know, with how precisely shapeshifters and succubi can extract this sort of information, makes me wonder how easy mindreading would be for a mage. Like, these are scrub-tier monsters wielding some seriously potent telepathy.
It's really sad, isn't it? She's been treated poorly for so long, she's had it drilled into her that she is a freak of a human, when in fact she is a very talented cat.
Izutsumi: Screw you guys. I don't need no one.
Izutsumi two seconds later: Gotta go save my friends!
Moral of the story: Chilchuck thinks the whole party is pretty.
Izutsumi has had just about enough of this nonsense.
Pro tip for all my succubus readers. If you're just mimicking someone's type, like Chilchuck, hordes work great. But if you're mimicking a specific person, the trick stops working if there are multiples. Makes it kinda obvious that it's a trick.
There is something darkly humorous about the fake mothers being defeated by killing their babies.
That's altogether, truly, enough of this nonsense. Actually, the fact that they stayed the same, can succubi only transform once? Or maybe there is just a long cooldown on switching forms?
:3
Presented without comment.
Probably because Kui the dungeon lords are inspired by those old myths. Pity demons aren't real.
Things are getting juicy! Stay tuned for part two.

Thranduilion: Sons of the Woodland King
SotWK commission by super-talented artist hffhifjou
(Please click image to enlarge and appreciate the beautiful details! XD)
I am pleased to present the first artwork I've commissioned for my OCs, the Princes of Mirkwood, Legolas's older brothers and elder sons of Thranduil Oropherion and his wife, Elvenqueen Maereth (also my OC).
I know many fans aren't on board with Legolas having brothers, but I invite you to enjoy the concept with me for a bit: an entire lineup of brother ellons, all as gorgeous and amazing as Thranduil and Legolas are?? Surely it's a fun imagine to indulge in, even as an AU.
I will gradually start posting more HCs about each Prince of Mirkwood, but here are some headcanons to accompany and explain this artwork:
Legolas is not only the youngest son, but he is actually the smallest of the group--if you could even call 6 feet, 8 inches "small"! But in comparison, Thranduil is 7 feet, 3 inches, while the tallest son, Turhir is a whopping 7 feet, 6 inches.
Turhir is the tank of the family--the tallest one and the best fighter (not counting Thranduil). He is virtually tireless and very difficult to take down or injure.
The eldest brother, Crown Prince Mirion, is physically the strongest, with raw muscle power even greater than Thranduil's. You can see that he is simply built broader and more muscular than the usual elven "slender" physique.
The five princes have varying degrees of fighting ability and different skill sets, but all of them are adept warriors. In this sketch, they are each carrying the weapons they specialize in.
The princes have trained alongside the Greenwood soldiers since they were very young, and they eventually earned places in leadership positions--except for Arvellas, who is more scholar than soldier.
The princes don't wear circlets most of the time; only during formal functions. Wildman Gelir in particular hates having to do this, and dislikes formal "stuffy" clothing in general. The Crown Prince is the only one who wears his crown as regularly as the Elvenking does, to signify his status as heir to the throne.
During warm summers in the Woodland Realm, soldiers do occasionally train shirtless, especially when they do drills around or in bodies of water. In some winters, they also undergo exercises with very little clothing on, to hone their bodies' tolerance for the harshest cold-weather conditions.
One of my HCs about Mirkwood/Silvan elves is that they are much more comfortable with showing skin than their Noldor and Sindar brethren in the west (or even the other races), which can occasionally scandalize and draw criticisms from outside visitors.
I specifically asked for the artist to draw these elves shirtless because a) you know we all enjoy that; b) we rarely get to see it; and c) I did want to highlight the differences in physique between the brothers, and promote my belief that Elves do not have all the same body type.
For anyone interested, I made a separate post about my fancast/face claim choices for these OCs HERE.
I am 100% willing to answer any Asks about any of my OC Thranduilions, including headcanons of Legolas. My OC-loving heart will thank you for your interest!
Tagging some friends who have been so kind in encouraging me to create more content for my OCs. Thank you so much, and I hope you don't mind this superfluous tag. hii hello 👋 just wanted to start by saying that the comic is still so cool interesting and I love how things are progressing so far, at first I wasn't sure if i was going to enjoy the current arc as much but its honestly really enganging with the bits of Falst backstory being revealed, seeing Dainix in action and put in situations, and also more interactions of the party members without Kendal really being present there (i love him sm but its interesting to see how the group dynamic is starting to really shape up, even though falst and dainix have only known each other for like a day(?), putting them in a perilous situation is a really good choice we can see open guy and closed off guy interacting and its so !! its cool) also the lighting for the cave with the fire and the ancient tech is great!
(this is already such a long ask im so sorry)
but ... speaking of ancient tech, i wanted to know how much of it has survived? we know that Erin's bag of holding is also Ancient made (iirc), and so is the storm pedestal, but is there still some other known Ancient tech used in the world? are there also significant populations/communities of people with Ancient ancestry that have gathered and do they have most of the access to that tech? If they do exist, are they more of a closed-off community or are they kind of subsumed into the local population (of ppl with no Ancient ancestry and stuff) ?
tl;dr really digging the current arc i love zombie dungeon funtime adventure. more info abt ancient tech / ppl descended from ancients pls?
anyway thank you very much and have a good day ^_^ love your work Red and it's honestly amazing how far the comic has progressed and the community's grown over the past 3-4 years ! (damn i cant believe 2019 was 4 years ago)
glad you're having fun! dropping dorks down a hole for Character Development is always a fun idea
Most Ancient stuff is in ruins, but the automatons are quite sturdy, especially the stuff created in the final days of the civil war. Ancient war machines will sometimes reactivate and un-bury themselves, wreaking havoc based on long-belayed and half-remembered orders. Dainix's desert home deals with these on occasion, which is why he's familiar with the basics of how they work.
Most Ancient tech works in ways that nobody has quite figured out how to replicate, but it can sometimes be repurposed if it's well-preserved enough - although the fact that most Ancient tech reacts with alarms at the presence of humans and elves makes it pretty hard for most people to make them do anything particularly useful. Things like Erin's bag are rare but not unbelievably so - there seem to have been a lot of them, and they're hard to break.
Ancient ancestry has been almost entirely subsumed into the overall population, and it almost never presents in any visible way - just about its only telltale signs are unusual height, and the combo of earthtone-skin and light-earthtone-hair with pale jeweltone-eyes, which is not naturally found in uninfluenced humans or elves and is rarely found even in elementally adapted populations of either (elves can have jeweltone eyes but always have skytone skin, typically patterned; influenced humans like crystal-caste will have jeweltone eyes and hair; etc)
Ancient tech responding positively to anyone is quite rare, and typically occurs in people who seem to have a significant number of Ancient ancestors on both sides of their family and consequently visibly resemble the phenotype to an unusual degree. It's very difficult to measure this sort of thing, but the general rule of thumb seems to be that a person needs to be at least 10% of Ancient descent before the tech doesn't panic on sight, and at least 20% in order for it to actually respond to them in any meaningful way. So the equivalent of one Ancient great-grandparent would work as a bare minimum, which doesn't sound too bad - unless you start doing the math of how many generations have actually passed since there were a surplus of Ancients around.
After the Ancient civil war ended and the "cave-folk" left the Singing Caves, there were barely a thousand Ancients left alive and scattered across the northern continents, in contrast to hundreds of thousands of humans and elves. And since this was over 4000 years ago, with generations happening at a rough average of three per century, there have been over 120 generations since the Emergence. One way to look at this is that every person of the Elder Races currently alive is a descendant of some set of those people alive at the Emergence, 120 generations back - they had kids 119 generations back, those kids had kids 118 generations back, etc etc, eventually leading to a person alive today whose great-great-great-(115-more-greats) grandparents were all around at the Emergence. However, this numbers game gets complicated when we do the basic math of asking "how many (118-greats)-grandparents would anyone have)" and find the answer is 2^120, or a little over 1 undecillion, which is a one with 36 zeroes after it, which is a billion billion billion billions. This many people have never been alive anywhere, because the uncomfortable truth is that after a certain number of generations back everyone's family trees stop forking and start looping, though if it happens far enough back it's not a genetic liability like it is in certain colonizing nations' royal families. So this math is already falling apart, but it is giving us some idea of how catastrophically unlikely it is for someone's Emergence-era ancestry to beat the odds and have enough Ancient make it to the modern day to be detectable.
To dramatically simplify the math and pretend generations are cleanly delineated at 3/century (and that genetics actually works like clean 50%s every time, or even that genetics as we understand it applies to this fictional fantasy world), at the time of the Emergence, the world population was around 0.1% Ancient, and in order for a modern person to make the tech work for them, their first-generation ancestry - the sum of all those Emergence people whose descendants eventually produced this kid, weighted to account for the people who are technically the 118-great-grandparents multiple times over thanks to family tree loops - needed to be at least 10-20% Ancient. It's not impossible, and there were parts of the world where the Ancient population at the Emergence was easily that high, but they're likely to be vastly outnumbered in the rest of the pile of 118-greats-grandparents as the family tree approximately doubles in size every generation.
So it happens, but it's rare and getting rarer. Most people in this field are instead trying to crack how to reprogram or build automaton control units from scratch, rather than dealing with them freaking out all the time.

Hi there, I’ve been reading your Kabumisu fic (SMHTGOTG) and I am obsessed!!! I love the way you interpret Kabru’s and Mithrun’s personalities and adapt their stories to a modern world. I can’t wait to see more of Mithrun’s past and them meeting the Laios gang!
I truly feel like you gave them the love and depth that Ryoko Kui wants for her characters. I really appreciate it after seeing more one-dimensional takes about Dunmeshi characters on twitter (of course it’s twitter) and even tumblr as the series got more popular.
Kui put so much effort in creating a beautiful and heartfelt story, trying her best to reflect complicated social issues through fantasy setting, showing how characters with varied backgrounds/ races overcome prejudices, grow to respect each other’s differences and how human they all are deep down, all while encouraging fans to care for their health, but all some people zoom in is which race is the most obviously problematic, which race is allowed a free pass to hold prejudice, which character is not that great actually did you not know they were racist at some point in the story??? (Growth? Never heard of her. Ignorance? That’s a CRiME!)
Ironically, all of that just reminds me of how performative the canaries are when they act all shocked and offended about Mithrun stating the slur the elves used to say all the time
(So sorry for the long rant 😭, I just really appreciate your fic and the analysis your made about Dunmeshi among the increasing bad faith takes)
OMG... Anon thank you so much for writing to me! This absolutely made my day. You're very sweet. Honestly I have the best readers in the world you're all paying such close attention to what I write and picking up what I put down, and that makes me so so so happy 😭
The #1 thing I ask myself while I'm planning and writing my fics is "does this feel like something that would happen in Dungeon Meshi?" And I guess I'm doing an OK job of that because people keep telling me what my writing feels like :D
And you are 100% right, there's always been bad takes and oversimplifications of the world and characters of Dungeon Meshi like what you're describing, but since it's getting more popular that means more people are talking about it, which unfortunately means, statistically, that there are going to be more bad takes…
On the positive side, there's also been lots of wonderful new fic and art that people are making, and lots of good takes too! Just a bit frustrating to wade through the swamp of bad stuff to get to the treasure.
Gotta just try hard to stay positive and focus on making good stuff you love, and not stressing about stuff that's bad and makes you upset.
And never apologize for writing me a long message!!! I agree with everything you said and I was so happy to read this when I got up this morning, so thank you for taking the time to write to me. You can write or DM me any time (though obviously you can't stay anon if you're DMing me lol)

Bang Creator Interview: Tumblr: @fatale-distraction | AO3: Fatale_distraction | Wordpress: History Will Say This Was Just a Book Blog
The Collaboration period has begun! In these quiet months before works are due, we want to foster a sense of excitement, camaraderie, and celebration among our participants. To that end, all participants were given the option of a formal interview by our mod, Dema, or an informal “ask-game” survey. We hope you enjoy getting to know our phenomenal creators as much as we have!
Woman single-handedly ruins decades of work using one simple technique you won’t believe!
Fataleity and Dema talk rarepairs, Swayze-coded Cullen, punk rock Solas, and Shenanigans
Dema: Starting very, very basic: how long have you been in the DA fandom? What about it inspires you to write?
Fataleity: Gosh, it’s probably been around fifteen years or more? I played DAO not too long after it originally came out and while I haven’t always been active in the fandom, I’ve been a fan since then. I’m super inspired by the characters and the lore, in particular anything relating to the elves. I love that the DA universe took typical elven lore and kinda flipped them upside down.
Dema: Do you have a favorite bit of Elven lore? Or if “favorite” isn't the right word, a piece of lore that particularly struck you?
Fataleity: Along with everyone else atm, I am really fascinated by the Evanuris and the idea of Ancient elves like Abelas and Felassan. I also love that each Dalish clan has different customs, different levels of knowledge, etc, but are still connected by a common history and language, lost as they might be, and try to lean into that in my writing.
Dema: So, you played all three games more or less as they came out, but when did you start writing fic for DA? What prompted you to start?
Fataleity: It’s been a while, but I believe it was around the release of Inquisition that I started actually posting. As far as writing, it would have been from the start in private notebooks or sharing with a friend of mine. Inquisition’s release was when I started getting into the tumblr fandom and seeing others posting their work, and figured if others were going to, why shouldn’t I?
Dema: Oh wow, right from the beginning! You’re an OG! What was your first published DA fic about?
Fataleity: It was a short one-shot of Leliana and Zevran during Inquisition. They crack me up as a couple. It was mostly banter and porn tbh, very little if any plot, lmao.
Dema: Oh my god, this was a pairing I did not know I needed until this moment. Fabulous, thank you.
Fataleity: You’re welcome. It’s a good one.
Dema: So do you tend to be more inspired by the canon characters or by your OC's? Or if not "inspired" per se, do you write more of one than the other?
Fataleity: I wanna say it's about even? I’ve noticed that recently I’ve been writing more from the perspective of canon characters than I did when I first started writing, even when writing about OCs. I think it's fun to try to emulate their voices, and also their reactions to some of my OCs ridiculous behavior.
Dema: Who is your most ridiculous OC?
Fataleity: My Inquisitor for sure. She’s the youngest of a very large Dalish family so she’s a little childish for her age, very affectionate and kind, but she has a powerful sense of justice. She’s best friends with Sera and the Chargers, so she gets herself involved in all kinds of shenanigans.
Dema: Gotta love the shenanigans. Did she romance anyone?
Fataleity: She romanced Solas primarily, but I have also shipped her with Krem and Fenris. I did a few OT3 fics of her, Krem, and Solas that I think came out pretty sexy.
Dema: Krem is under-shipped, I fear.
Fataleity: I do my best to fix that. I’ll put him with anyone who will treat him softly. Or not. Depending on his mood I guess. He deserves the world and more.
Dema: Thank you for your service. This is like asking for your favorite child, but do you have a particular canon character you really love to write?
Fataleity: Krem for sure. Great narrative voice, great jokes, and since he’s not as canonically developed as other characters, there’s a lot to play with.
Dema: Do you do anything in particular to get into the heads of the canon characters? I find that's such a challenge (a fun one!) to adopt the voice of a character I didn't create, and am always curious how other people do it.
Fataleity: Getting super familiar with the source material is obviously very important. For some characters that’s easier than others, so I will also rely on similar characters from other media that I feel resonate strongly to the character I’m trying to portray. Also simply putting myself in the character’s shoes. “If I was this particular character with this particular background, how would I react to this particular circumstance based on my prior experiences?” I feel like I’m also pretty influenced by whatever media I’m consuming at the time. For instance, writing 90s Cullen around the same time I rewatched Dirty Dancing, he ended up VERY Swayze-coded.
Dema: Omg, incredible. Is there any non-DA media inspiring your fic for the Bang?
Fataleity: I’ve been listening to AURORA’s newest album a lot. My partner and I are also watching a lot of comedic detective shows recently, so I feel like that sense of humor is going to be a big influence by the time this is done.
Dema: Man, I feel like any follow-up I ask to that question will have to be redacted, ha! What's the most out-there piece of media that has inspired a fic for you?
Fataleity: I don’t recall if there was a particular piece of media that inspired this, but I created a Y2K dragon age AU specifically so I could cram the characters into specific period-appropriate outfits, specifically young Solas as an early 80s late 70s punk kid. I think It might have stemmed from rewatching That 70s Show. This is also where Swayze-Cullen came from.
Dema: Was there a musical number. Please say yes.
Fataleity: I tried to shoehorn my Lavellan into having a band on top of everything else, so there were definitely musical numbers. Krem was playing the solo from Freebird. ABBA was involved.
Dema: Amazing. God, I am dying to see some Solas 80's punk fanart now.
Fataleity: I would die. I would pay blood, sweat, tears, money, and my first, second and third born children.
Dema: Anarchy patch on his leather jacket…
Fataleity: Piercings. The piercings alone, man. I made him a college professor so he got rid of most of the piercings, but he kept a few. “The ones that would hurt most if I wanted to get them done again.”
[Dema and Fataleity have an increasingly suggestive emoji exchange.]
Dema: Sorry, I'm incorrigible.
Fataleity: As am I.
Dema: Do you find you write a lot of AUs?
Fataleity: I think I imagine more than I actually put down in words. My favorites are definitely different time periods. I’m a sucker for costuming.
Dema: Same. Costumes tell you so much about the culture and the characters! Do you tend to have visual references when you are writing, beyond what is provided by the games?
Fataleity: If I have a particular outfit or setting in mind, especially for AUs. For those I’ll have Pinterest boards or the like. If I’m doing something more based around existing settings, I’ll look up a reference as needed, but I don’t tend to have, like, a vision board or anything for those.
Dema: If you have any visuals for your Bang fic, will you give us a teaser?
Fataleity: https://unsplash.com/photos/purple-flowers-near-mountain-during-daytime-S73YlRU8hy0
Dema: Oohhh the vibes! I’m looking forward to it. On a very different note, if your bang fic had a clickbait title, what would it be?
Fataleity: “Woman single-handedly ruins decades of work using one simple technique you won’t believe!”
Dema: Perfect. Thank you for your time, Fataleity!
Fataleity: Of course, this was fun!

Thank you for your analysis, it just makes so much sense, and it gives me hope that they might really explore a slow burn romance between them. 🥺
But also I've been going back to their scenes together, and they almost always touch each other, and it's so delicate and intimate? They might not be aware of it themselves yet, but they aren't acting like siblings.
Haha you’re spot on, and thank you! I’m holding out hope too! Nobody online listened to my speculations after season 1, but I called every trope before it happened. Not trying to hype myself up lol, just stating that the knowledge I have in the romance writing department has proved itself true in this area. Even the ring scene, I called it the episode before, because it would’ve been the perfect screen play in regards to foreshadowing. And I’m just a measly aspiring romance author, not even a screen writer or nothin’. But lemme tell you I freaked when I saw it the first time.
Anyway, about the touching— it’s very deliberate also. I do think, however, that it was played out as more platonic in the beginning than it is now. Galadriel and Elrond’s story feels a bit like a coming of age romance for this reason. It starts off like “puppy love” when they first meet. It’s innocent and sweet this way, but it definitely doesn’t give siblings. I think this is why much of the fan base was confused. Many folks interpreted it as either one or the other, completely platonic and familial(because of the lore), or entirely romantic. But in reality? They sit in this very small space that’s not quite friends, not quite lovers. Mckay even acknowledges this: “Best friends may be reducing their relationship too much. I’d say she’s someone for [whom] he has so much love.” This sets them up perfectly for the forced to kiss trope. Their moments of touch/intimacy would typically read romantic, but ultimately don’t because the characters are technically just friends. Anyone (including themselves) could justify that there’s no romantic intention in their touches.
Here’s the kicker though. Now there’s been a romantic gesture that doesn’t fit into the “grey area”. A kiss is a romantic gesture. OK AND BEFORE YOU SAY “things just operate differently in this world”— No. No they don’t. Because if kissing between elves was normal, or not romantic, or just something viewed as extra intimate friendship, THEN IT WOULDN’T HAVE WORKED AS A RUSE. 😤
*cough* Sorry. Got a little.. excited. As I was saying…
They’ve crossed the line, unintentionally maybe so, but now they will likely question their touchiness. The reason is, they don’t want to confuse the other person. Before, their intimacy was always “platonic” because they’d never acknowledged the possibility of it meaning more than that. Now there’s this elephant in the room. “Did you mean to kiss me? Would you have kissed me without the pin? Did you like the kiss? What would happen if we kissed again?” Etc etc. And all the unknowns create too big of a risk for it to just go back to the way it was before.
Maybe I’m overshooting a little, since ROP isn’t technically a romance. They might not do it this way, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Elrond suddenly doubting himself, not knowing how to touch her now, what’s safe and what’s not. Does this make sense?
I recommend reading ‘People we Meet on Vacation’ By Emily Henry, in order to familiarize yourself with the more common components of the trope(best friends to lovers). It’s not the only reference out there, and it’s not my favourite book/couple, but it does a good job of depicting those blurred lines— and what happens when you unintentionally cross them!
Anyways. Yeah, their touches are beautiful. We actually haven’t seen elves this intimate before on screen, and that should be your first clue. Even in Tolkien’s books, there’s not a lot of physical intimacy between two elf lovers. A kiss is a huge deal, and I think it’s supposed to feel that way to us (though people didn’t get the memo) because it’s how it would feel to them. Think about it. The only other person Galadriel has lots of little tiny touches with (though the tone is different) is Sauron. We know how they felt about each other, and they didn’t even kiss! The E & G kiss was not done on accident, that’s for sure.
Last point, just for funsies—
They literally can’t not touch each other 🥹💘 Even when they’re fighting, they’re compelled to each other. Bumping shoulders, held gaze, hand touching, the list goes on. If that doesn’t say romance then idk what will!! 🫶✨❤️
Thanks for the ask! Come again!

Hi! I was searching through some about SVE fanfics and didn't find much, I was starting to lose hope but then I found yours. Thank you for sharing your amazing ideas and stories. They made me really happy. Please keep writing more! ❤️☺️
I also have a fun idea for a headcanon/fic with these two guys Lance and Jio. In my world, I have two farmers and both are sisters, Lance married the first sister and Jio also married the second. Which makes Lance and Jio are brother-in-laws. Makes me wonder how those two get along while living together on the same roof with their wives. With their personalities are complete opposites with each other.
Hewwo :3 Thank you very much for your kind words, dear anon! 💕 It gives me great pleasure to write about this game and my favorite mods. I'm glad you're enjoying it too, and hope you enjoy the little headcanon about the interaction between these two (I love the opportunity to write about the Lance and Jio dynamic, so many possibilities for a funny scenario!).
_________________________________________
The encounter was... awkward and a little tense, to say the least. Neither Lance nor Jio had caused each other any problems, not at all. But the lives of both had changed dramatically, for sure.
Firstly, Lance was struck by the fact that elves, a race that is thought to be extinct, is actually far from extinct. At least one living representative stands right in front of him. Jio's disguise won't fool Lance's violet eyes: he can see through the enchantment. Naturally, the curious adventurer will have a bunch of questions, which, naturally, the antisocial elf does not want to answer. This situation can be described as, "This is Jio, he likes his personal space. And this is Lance, he likes Jio's personal space." Lance isn't that intrusive, but let's be honest - a living elf who is now a brother-in-law.... Lance won't miss an opportunity to shower Jio with questions, and he's pretty stubborn. Although the elf is also stubborn as well. It's hard to say who would win.
Secondly, is the realisation and distinction of their unconventional professions. As far as we know, the Cult of the Lady with the Red Tail is not an official organisation, but is even a criminal clan engaged in assassination. At least, most people don't know the motive of the cult's followers and only listen to gossip about the next murder of someone unknown politic. Only Jio, his friends and his lover know that these people are no longer people, but soulless puppets of Gabriella, but still their cult deservedly has the status of "dangerous". Lance, on the other hand, is an adventurer and the right-hand man of The First Slash Clan. All of the Clans and the Ministry of Magic have an unspoken neutrality with the Cult, but each side always has a hand on the hilt of the sword if one side starts to get dangerous. Lance understands the situation perfectly well, so he approaches it rather cautiously. He truly understands the motive of Jio and the others, tho he's not too fond of the methods. But he also loves his spouse and will try to keep peace both within the family and among the Clan and Guilds. Lance is a good diplomat.
Despite their different personalities, the two have settled in quite peacefully. Lance occasionally teases the elf, and Jio can point his katana in Lance's direction (it doesn't come to fights, because they both don't want to upset and anger their sisters' wives), but they can become friends. Even if they don't socialise, just sit in complete silence.
If the sisters want to introduce their husbands to their friends and family..... Jio's and Lance's reactions might be different. Of course, Lance will present himself as an adventurer, while Jio will make up a story (for "assassin elf" doesn't sound like... much) for the friends and parents of the two farmers. If it's about friends who are also adventurers, or with Daia, Kiwi and other Cult members... This is where both men will try to delay the meeting a bit to figure out how not to create conflict. Belinda certainly won't be thrilled that one of her long-time friend's granddaughters having an adventurer as a spouse, and the Ministry of Magic will be tearing their hair out when Lance introduces his 'brother in law' to them. It's a delicate matter, so you have to be careful here. It'll take time, but everyone will get used to this chaotic family. Especially since the sister farmers have done more chaotic things before, and it all ended peacefully.
