I really wish butchhood wasn't conflated with being a protector so much, honestly.
I'm a very vulnerable butch. I'm chronically ill, invisibly physically disabled, and have a lot of mental health issues. My masculinity doesn't inherently make me more strong or powerful.
But there's a huge amount of butch culture built on butches being protective of femmes, or just being strong and working in very physically laborious jobs. It feels disheartening to be locked out of a major part of my culture, just because I'm disabled.
So here's to all the disabled butches who want, or are expected to, be strong because toxic masculinity has taught us the mascs are the protectors, but we can't be.
We're the ones who need people to slow down for us. We're the ones who need to sit down and catch our breath after walking a bit. We're the ones who need help. And that doesn't make us any less butch.

psa for cane, crutch, and wheelchair users getting top surgery:
you will not be able to exert much effort with your arms. self supporting with a cane or crutch or self propelling in your wheelchair is inadvisable.
make sure you have a support person to help you, or be prepared to be using your legs more if you are able.

I think it's stupid that people won't believe the "out group" will help them.
Perisex people can be allies to intersex people
Cis people can be allies to trans people
Non queer people can be allies to the queer community
Transmasc and transfems and transneutrals all help each other
Men can be allies to women
White people can be allies to black, brown, hispanic, asian, and native people
Abled bodied people can be allies to physically disabled people
Neurotypicals can be allies to neurodivergent people, whether that's toward intellectual disability, mental health, learning disability, cognitive disability or other stuff
We're all in this fight together: don't forget it. Be an ally to the groups you're not a part of. Help people you see needing help.

As a trans cane user I've noticed a distinct difference in how people treat me when they think I'm a girl vs when they think I'm a guy.
When people think I'm a girl they're more willing to help me, almost to an excessive extent. To the point of one guy in my class pulls my chair out for me.
On the contrary when people think I'm a boy (which I more or less am) I get very little help with anything. Sometimes I get straight up ignored.
It's so strange.

one of the most infuriating things about the perennial "um but maybe your abusive boyfriend is neurodivergent and that's why he never helps you with anything" shit is that as a disabled trans woman i am NEVER given anywhere near the same benefit of the doubt that abusive men are given.
me needing my partner's help with things is automatically seen as abusive and lazy by others to the point they need to defend me over it.
it's a twin tailed thing of misogyny here because women and especially trans women needing help is seen as demanding and bad and men actively being abusive are coddled and eternally excused. it's fucking vile.
hashtag leftists on their way to excuse your abuser and call a trans woman abusive in the same breath.

Shout out to all the transmascs that can’t get on t because of health issues.
My doctor told me because of the medication for my chronic illness testosterone may not have any effects on me. I may not have cispassing ever. We deserve to be treated as good as cis men and we aren’t “less trans” just because we don’t medicate. We are valid. Fuck anything else.

Still seeing feminists in 2023 claiming that ‘emasculation isn’t real’ and it’s still baffling me.
How can you look at the lived realities of Asian and Jewish men and think “yeah these men totally aren’t emasculated and viewed as lesser males or less masculine than white men and it’s totally not dehumanising or racist or anything 😌” like. Racism against MOC doesn’t always look like portraying them as aggressive or dangerous, it can also look like viewing certain types of minority men as ‘failed’ men and ‘lacking real manhood’ as a dehumanising tactic. Myths about Jewish men previously portrayed them as having periods and being ‘basically women’. Asian men are fetishised and stripped of their manhood frequently by K-pop stans and people online who don’t realise that masculinity and gender roles look slightly different in non-western cultures.
Also… trans men. Who are FORCEFULLY emasculated and feminised against their will, by genocidal bigoted conservatives, and sometimes even somewhat by other queer people telling them to ‘tone down’ their non-toxic masculinity to avoid making others uncomfortable, making themselves dysphoric and detached from their gender identities to remain palatable.
What about disabled men? Are they not also viewed as failing to achieve proper manhood? Are they not also emasculated and viewed as ‘un-male’ or ‘less male’?
Minority men absolutely can and do experience emasculation. And it’s not ‘toxic’ or misogynistic to bring it up. Feminists who care about POC in particular should not be pretending otherwise.
