Online advocacy is real advocacy.⁣ ⁣ In an inaccessible world it is easier for some Disabled people to contribute to advocacy online.⁣ ⁣ We all have a necessary role to play. ⁣ ⁣ The other week - a Chronic Illness page announced they were having an in person conference. When asked if masks were going to be required, they deferred to the CDC guidelines. Which meant, as most of us knew - masks would not be required. ⁣ ⁣ Many Disabled and Chronically Ill people spoke up about this and notified their communities. ⁣ ⁣ Later on in the day - that page announced that they were going to officially ask for masking to be required at their event. ⁣ ⁣ If online advocacy didn’t exist - maybe that event would have taken place with the laid back CDC guidelines instead of protecting the most vulnerable with masks. ⁣ ⁣ A lot of people talk about the negatives of social media - but positives exist as well. ⁣ ⁣ With social media we can create m*tual aid campaigns to save the most vulnerable members of our communities. ⁣ ⁣ We can problem solve with like-minded friends. ⁣ ⁣ We can be present when our bodies are unable to cooperate physically. ⁣ ⁣ We can make change in the physical world through our advocacy online. ⁣ ⁣ Social media and online activism is a tool. Some people are able to access the physical world with ease - and others are not. ⁣ ⁣ We all have a different role to play in society.⁣ ⁣ Of course I would love for the physical world to be more accessible to Disabled people - but until then - the internet is a tool for change - and one that is much easier for Disabled people to access. ⁣ ⁣ @tovahsfine #DisabilityJustice #DisabilityRights #CommunityCare #CommunitySafety #DisabilityAdvocate #HumanRights #SocialJustice #OnlineAdvocacy #SocialMediaTools #DisabilityInclusion #AbleismIsTrash #AbleismKills #Accessibility #AccessibilityForAll ⁣ (at Worldwide) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoXmfJRLx29/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I thought I would share this, most people who see me, don’t see the difficulties I go through day to day. These are the daily tablets I take for a month (x4 weeks), mainly to do with severe pain. There are 700 tablets in total (per month) of which x25 tablets are taken each day. Over the years I have been told I “am a fake”, “that there is nothing wrong with me” and “I just need to get over it”. For many many people, illness, conditions and many health issues whether mentally or physically are not seen. Some of us have to have strict medical treatment, strict structure in our lives, so that we can function “Normally”. You may have friends who you know has health issues/conditions, you may not know they have anything at all. People look down on others who do not conform to the “Normality” of what we class as “normal”. Because of this, it can lead to prejudice, hatred, hurtful comments. This can also take a toll on the mental health of people who are disabled. So I ask, before you judge someone, be mindful of what could be happening with them. You may not see what’s happening in their lives, or their daily struggles. But you can be there as a friend. #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #Health #physicaldisability #MentalHealth #Friendship #Judging #JudgingPeople #Support #DisabilityNeeds #Advocate #DisabilityAdvocate #SupportNetwork https://www.instagram.com/p/CoATIBHooN3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In today’s news I blew a biped’s brains out haha! Someone made chit chat on a train which was lovely. Asked what I’d been up to and when I said ‘oh just a work meeting in London’ their face kind of contorted in shock. When I followed this with being a social worker and union rep they didn’t quite know what to say. They had made a lot of assumptions just looking at my wheelchair!!!! #DisabkedSocialWorker #DisabledWorkers #DisabilityRights #DisabilityAdvocate #DisabilityAwareness #DisabledPeopleJustLivingLife #UnionRep #CrippingSocialWork #WheelyAdventures #DisabilityRoleModel #DisabledRollModel https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl1-blLssLR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
