20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @rngaredead :)
For simplicity's sake I'm going to go with just my biDEMONium/trentcrimminallybeautiful ao3 and not try to combine it with my thesorrowoflizards one (why do i have more than one? because i was, among other things, an idiot who didn't know how pseuds worked next question) even though that would probably double some of these numbers lkfjgh
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Again, just on this account? 171 (some of those are oneshot compilations though)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
661,851 for now
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Ted Lasso, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The House on the Cerulean Sea, House MD, Death by Dying, Instinct, King Falls AM. Also, sort of Gravity Falls. Mostly those first two though, tbh. This one I think I will include other fandoms I've written and posted for on other accounts because it's fun and less about math. So also Shadowhunters, The Librarians, The Mentalist, The Dresden Files (TV), Roswell New Mexico, The Sandman, Star Trek, Professor Layton, Sanders Sides, Miraculous Ladybug, and sort of The Legend of Zelda. Also see, for unposted or posted a very long time ago and no longer something I would willingly share, Supernatural, Dirk Gently (both 2016 and 2010), Doctor Who, Warehouse 13, SurrealEstate, Person of Interest, Haven, Leverage, Bones. Psych, and probably more
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Ted Lasso Kisses Trent Crimm On The Mouth (Trent/Ted - 1,157 kudos)
semaphore (Trent/Ted; Trent & Colin - 997 kudos)
off the handle (Trent/Ted - 736 kudos)
linger (Trent/Ted - 709 kudos)
a preacher, a bikini, and a kiss or two (Trent/Ted; Diamond Dogs - 673 kudos)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to but I always get really busy/tired and then it's been so long it feels like it would be weird if I did. Plus, sometimes my answers by nature of the comments can get repetitive and then even though I'm being sincere I feel insincere which sucks. However, if a comment has a direct question or something I actually have like, something unique to say about, I'm much more likely to respond sooner rather than later/never. I appreciate every single comment soooo much though literally my motivation to get through the day like 80 percent of the time
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm going to stick with Ted Lasso fics here since I have so many fics posted and this is my Ted Lasso sideblog and say... well, most of the time I have a bittersweet ending and then some sort of hopeful epilogue (such as with ink sunset and make a mess of you) but I guess betrayal's sting / absolution's balm or something to get off my chest may qualify?
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Uhhh, honestly, most of them are happy endings. I think trick & treat and matters of the heart end on particularly high notes?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not in this fandom! Yet
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh, yeah, baby. So much. Not sure what "kind" means in this context. It sure is explicit smut. I have tended almost exclusively towards hot transgender sex the last few years because. yknow. hi. but somehow I don't think that's the intention in the question.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I do, but I haven't posted a lot. Only one on this account (a Gravity Falls x The Mysterious Benedict Society crossover that started as a joke because of a shared actress) although I had an interesting Shadowhunters x The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess fusion on my other account. I've written some pretty weird WIPs, though. And I've got some posts about Ted Lasso crossover/AUs, like a Sarah Jane Adventures AU, a Pushing Daisies AU, a Stardust AU... You can find that kind of thing in this tag on my blog.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes. Not in this fandom, though, as far as I'm aware.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Again, not in this fandom, though.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not really.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Oh, man, I don't know if I can decide. Magnus/Alec (TV version only I'll die on this hill) will always hold a special place in my heart, but I've got other "obsessed with this when I was a kid" ships and also recency bias/current hyperfixation means Trent/Ted screams as an immediate answer, and so on and so forth. I'm bad at picking favorites. Overall, I'd probably say one of those two, or both.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Sticking to Ted Lasso again (I have. so many MBS WIPs. god.) I'd say lost sight of (who you are) (lost motivation, want to finish, fuck!!) or sweeter than heaven (hotter than hell) (got mad at it), or!! oh!!! ink sunset (stuck) and possibly the next installment of matters of the heart. Yeah, I have a problem
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm pretty good at being funny and also at eloquent but perhaps a little too verbose metaphors. I love me an elaborate metaphor
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
It's hard for me to focus and get what I have in my head out sometimes, even when I really want to. Whether it's being unable to organize or just my brain flat-out refusing to cooperate and do anything. Also, I'm way too like. easily discouraged with lack of feedback, and even a little negative feedback can kind of ruin my week and make me never wanna go back to that story ever again.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I just realized. The questions seemed familiar but I wasn't sure why and now I know, now that I've gotten to this question. I have done this game before and I remember bc of this question. I was confused bc it was under a different name, I think the questions were in a different order, and it was sometimes slightly differently worded but nope! This is the same one! Weird Anyway, just for this particular question, I'm going to copy-paste my old answer because I'm lazy. I’m extremely bad at linguistics in general, so if I must include someone talking in another language in my fic, I think I’d tend to cheat and do italics or some other indication that this is ‘in another language’ (ie “Where are you going?” she asked in Russian), but that’s admittedly a lazy approach. But I also think it’s probably better than butchering it with an auto-translator? Also, when people just include the translation in the end notes, even with a link (although that makes it marginally better) it breaks the flow of the story and makes it hard to read. Making an effort to at least match grammar is good (which I would do if it was for longer than a single scene, probably) but I think the best solution is when people know what they’re doing and like, have an actual translation with a little html code so you can click on it and it reveals what it means? Or if you’re clever, revealing what it means using context around it, but that has its own limitations. So that both like, uses the actual language and doesn’t break up the flow. It balances accessibility, flow, and respect for the other language in question well. But you’ve got to both know what you’re doing with the language (either asking someone/hiring someone/knowing the language yourself) and the html (although there are guides for that you’d have to spend time figuring it out + know it exists in the first place to look). And this is fanfiction, something we ultimately do for free in our spare time, so the lazy approach, I think, can be understandable. Maybe not in every context, but it’s not worth stressing a lot over in a few random lines or anything, you know? It is really cool when people do know a language well enough to include it properly in a fic, though, it can say a lot about a character or dynamic; and their background(s) and like. it’s neat :)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Ever? Doctor Who. And I don't remember the order, but after that I know I wrote some stuff about Star Trek (mostly TNG but I believe also TOS), Supernatural, A:LTA, Marvel, WTNV, and the Stanley Parable? I think I first posted either Supernatural or WTNV
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I have no idea. Some of my top ones (for Ted Lasso again) would be matters of the heart and trick & treat I suppose?
Tagging: whoever wants to do this man, I probably tagged everyone I'd normally tag last time so if you see this and you wanna do it, go ahead and tag me and do it!

saw @aaronstveit do a writing tag a while back, and i felt like using it as well, so here are my answers to that:
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
90! (my old reader insert backlog is on there.)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
105,213
3. What fandoms do you write for?
...that would take a long time to list. right now it's mostly stargate.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
phoenix / cheesy proposal / a cause for laughter / kiss / a mermaid's kiss
(note: i am linking these are they're all at least 3+ years old.)
5. Do you respond to comments?
yes, if i have the energy to!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
the end of their tale (wesley wyndam-pryce/oc) - this is the one where they both die.
(content warnings for blood, body horror, and major character death.)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
hm. i'm not sure.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no. hopefully not ever.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
i have.. it's all explicit (since i'm unsure how to nsfw metaphors) but its not published anywhere publicly.
10. Do you write crossovers?
frappucinos and old friends (dirk gently's holistic detective agency + the umbrella academy) is my most recent! however, it's not something i write often. which is odd considering its how i began writing 'fic in the beginning.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
i've co-run wattpad accounts before (they didn't last long, although the email addresses are still open. whoops) but as far as i can recall nothing ever got published?
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
eve/flynn from the librarians!! they radiate comfort!!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
[sighs] probably binding ties (grimm re-write). sure, it's a passion project, but since i don't have access to the bits of source material i want to rewrite i'm unsure about it ever being finished...
16. What are your writing strengths?
dialogue, apparently? (at least, that's what i'm told.)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
using transition (like 'then') words and/or fight scenes.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
i haven't done this, and don't know if i ever would?
19. First fandom you wrote for?
the maze runner (it was shitty newt/reader oneshots. i don't want to talk about it.)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
waves (john sheppard/oc)
i'm very proud of how I characterised john here, and I also adore the vibes fern and john have.

Easy Isn't Worth It
Summary: With the new case getting exceedingly more dangerous, Dirk tries harder and harder to keep the reader out of it.
Request: By an anon and @lulu-102
lulu-102: Can you do a Dirk Gently oneshot where Dirk and the reader are dating and hes scared because she got hurt because of the case he was working on? (season 2 is where i thought up this idea)
Anon: HEYO ITS THE EXCITED DIRK GENTLY ANON so I decided to request some stuff so so I’m watching ep 6 of s2 and wowie is Dirk stressed out so can you do a thing where reader pulls him away and just like. Calms him down. Like. He deserves a bit of calm. Thanks!!
A/N: I combined these two since I thought they would fit well together, hope you don’t mind! Also, I felt that I should warn of panic attacks and violent descriptions. I AM ALSO SO SORRY THAT I HAVE BEEN AWAY SO LONG.
~~~
This case was a weird one to say the least. People in trees, people in cars in trees, and alternate dimensions. The guy with pink hair and the crazy woman with a magic wand were seeming less and less worrisome with all these new problems.
You wondered, if this was all effecting you this badly, what was it doing to Dirk? Sure, he had dealt with the last case pretty well, but that was before Blackwing had locked him up. You couldn’t imagine how much it had messed with him, and this case was just adding to the already towering pile of stress.
It all finally came to a halt when you got hurt. To be honest, you had suspected this would happen. Dirk had been a bit unstable, and frankly terrified, recently. He had even previously blew up at Todd, stating that the case was over and that no magic dimension existed.
He had snapped at you, saying that you weren’t fit to solve the case, that you were simply in the way, and that you should go back home and let them solve it alone. You knew he didn’t really mean what he said, yet it still stung like lemon juice in a wound, and left you feeling a bit empty. You knew that if you stayed in a room with him, you would get just as angry and retaliate, so you walked out of the police station. Tina asked you what was wrong as you stormed past her, but you ignored her question and continued out of the building.
The air was hot, yet somehow refreshing. The sun beat down on your skin, warming you up. As you looked up to the bright blue sky, you hear the door to the station open.
“I don’t want to talk about it, Tina.” You grumbled, rolling your eyes.
“I don’t think my name is Tina, but... if you would like to try and guess again...” Dirk spoke softly, his tone painfully light. You turned your head slightly to look at his tall figure, still simmering a bit from the argument that took place moments before.
“No, I think I’m good. Apparently, I am a crap detective.”
“I never said that, I simply stated that this case was no longer safe, and I didn’t want you to get hurt while trying to solve it so you should just go and stay at a nice hotel far, far, far away from here.” He stated, looking at you, but your focus was pinned to a tall evergreen on the other side of the road, not wanting to look him in the eye. If you did, you would no longer be able to be mad, and the anger you felt would melt away.
“But you managed to say it in the most dickish way possible. Your skills are really truly astounding Dirk Gently.” It was silent after that, and he seemed to soak in your words. You snuck a glance at him, risking meeting his gaze due to curiosity. Unfortunately, that is precisely what happened. The minute you locked gazes, you say the worry, the hurt, and all the misery. Dirk really was bad at hiding what he was feeling.
“Hey, look, I understand you were worried. I get that, I really do, Dirk. It’s just...I can handle it. I’m not just going to up and leave all of you because a case gets a bit dangerous. We were dealing with crossbow-wielding minions and time travel when we met. A little dimensional civil war isn’t going to stop me from helping you,” You placed a hand on his cheek, leaning up and kissing his cheek. “You matter to me just as much as I matter to you. I love you and if you want me to not help on this case, well then you’ll have to drag me away kicking and screaming.”
His mouth hung open, his eyes wide. It was silent for a moment, the air around you completely still. His hands suddenly cradled your face, his eyes shining and mouth curling into an elated smile.
“Have I ever mentioned how much a love you, because it is a pretty big amount. I’d say even more than Todd loves Farrah, and we all know that is a lot.” You smiled at his rambling, studying his face, because with Dirk was right, no matter how much you told him not to worry. This case was getting more and more dangerous, and this may very well be the last time you see him.
~~~
Sorry if Dirk is out of character. I haven’t watched the show since it ended, so I am a bit rusty on his character.

an excuse to buy you candy
chapter one: february thirteenth
by @riotmaidstone for @generalized-incompetence
On their first Valentine's Day as a couple, Dirk and Todd seem to have mismatched expectations regarding what the other wants out of the holiday. Misunderstandings and wrecked plans ensue.
As a rule, Todd did not like Valentine’s Day. He used to when he was a kid, sure. What kid wouldn’t love an excuse to get candy from all your classmates and then drive your teacher crazy with the ensuing sugar high times twenty students? But all that was before he had made the mistake of giving his best friend a card that apparently leaned a bit too much towards the "I like like you" end of the spectrum than the '"you're my best friend" end of it in the class valentine exchange. Face burning with embarrassment, Todd had had to assure him that it had all been a joke and he obviously didn’t mean it. He had. The sour feeling a humiliation churning in his stomach also caused the dawning realization that maybe he was a bit more different from the other kids than he thought, and the seed of bitterness had been planted.
To Todd's immense relief, class Valentine’s Day celebrations seemed to fall out of fashion in middle school.

Not really an entry but oh well 17 good things from 2017
Hey so I saw this on someone else's blog (didn't catch the name but I'll add it later if I can find it) and I was like "well hey, 2017 was pretty much the worst but 2018 isn't looking like it's going to be great so time to found my blessings!" So yeah, here's my top 17 of 2017 (not in order)
1. The Adventure Zone: I had seen posts about it for like a year on Tumblr and didn't understand why the characters always looked different so I checked it out (it was specifically Lup and Taako fan art that made me check out the show which makes sense now because I love my elf children). So for anyone who doesn't know: TAZ is a table top game podcast by the McElroy brothers that starts with a 69 (nice) episode journey through the adventures of Taako, Magnus, and Merle. It starts out all goofs but ends up tearing your heart out in the best ways possible. This came to me at a pretty bad time in my life and it was my escape from a lot of the bad stuff. It's an absolutely amazing podcast that I think everyone should at least try out. It's still on going with new small arcs before the next season so please check it out!
2. Because of TAZ I started playing dnd for myself! I play a sorcerer named Udele Octavia who is a drunk but pretty much perfect
3. My best friend and I got even closer to the point where I've officially met his boyfriend (that's a big deal for him and I'm glad he let me in)
4. I got a new laptop and a new record player that I love with all my heart (my dad got me the Beatles on vinyl and I pretty much died)
5. I'm an RA and at the beginning of this year I helped some residents out (all turning out to live in my building) with some car issues and now they love me! They chant my name when they see me and idk it makes all the issues with my job worth it.
6. I've gotten into poetry! Mainly due to "The Princess Saves Herself in This One" which is amazing and I would recommend to anyone
7. I've started writing again! I write songs and this year I made 2 of my absolute favorites I'm very proud of them! Also started writing my own poetry which isn't as bad as I would have expected! Yay!
8. I asked out a boy I've had a crush on for 2 years and we actually have been on 2 dates! And they've been fun! It's hard because he's back home but I feel more confident about myself since not everyone rejects me
9. I reconnected with a friend from high school who I really really missed and love. He's a great kid and I'm glad we're talking again
10. I played some of the best games this year. Including my favorite game in the whole wide world OneShot. I can't even say all that much about the game since it's easy to spoil but it's one of the most interesting games I've ever played and yes I DID cry. Other games include Night in the Woods, Gone Home, West of Loathing, and Stardew Valley (some of these came out last year but I didn't play till this year)
11. I was a specialty RA for sustainability and apparently I had the most successful specialty floor and I'm very proud of that
12. I went to 3 countries last summer! Scotland, The Netherlands, and France. All absolutely amazing which I could write lists for all on their own
13. My sister asked me to be her maid of honor! Her fiance is one of my favorite people and I'm so happy for them!
14. I got a 99% in a college class which I never though I could do. Grades aren't everything but I worked really hard and I'm glad with that
15. My goal this semester was to see more of my college town and I did that! With help of course but I did it!
16. Dirk Gently season 2 was everything I wanted and more. It ties for my favorite show but it may not get a season 3 so please please please check it out when it goes up on Netflix on January 5th please!!!
17. Brooklyn 99. All of Brooklyn 99. I seriously love Brooklyn 99
Wow, that was easier than I thought! This isn't a tag but please do this if you want to! It actually made me feel better about this year and made me a little happier so if you need a smile please try this one out!
(Sorry this is so long, I know that's annoying so yeah. Sorry for clogging up your dash!)

🗡 Dirk Strider♦️ Reader Oneshot Hugs 🪛
You've been living with Dirk in his apartment in the middle of the ocean for several weeks now. Your house was destroyed by drones and he invited you to stay with him. He even helped you get to his house. He's been keeping an arm's length away from you all this time. You respected that and didn't impose your company on him. It was like you were just neighbors. He was rather silent and was often busy. But what bothered you was that he avoided any physical contact. You were afraid Dirk disliked you. But once you saw him upset, you couldn't stay away anymore. You quietly approached him and touched his shoulder with your fingertips.
"What happened?.."
Dirk twitched and looked at you a little surprised. He sighed heavily.
"No, it's all right"
"I can see that it's not like that..."
Dirk sighed heavily.
"I kind of had a fight with Jake..."
You saw how Dirk lowered his head in frustration. You wanted to cheer him up somehow, so you opened your arms for a hug.
"Comforting hugs?"
Dirk looked at you and hugged you, burying his face in your stomach.
"Thank you..."
You hugged him and gently stroked his back. He snuggled up to you. A smile appeared on your lips. You understood that in his entire life you became the first person he met in person. It was his first hug, just like it was for you.

Could I ask for no.s 15 and 23?
heck yeah :D
#15 something you learned this year
oooh getting introspective huh. I can write a lot. I didn't really realize how much I actually wrote, but it's how I spend a huge chunk of my free time, so it makes sense. I have written over 500,000 words this year, that's more than I've written in the past three! And speaking of numbers, I'm still learning not to compare myself to others, both in little things like hits and kudos, but also in writing. Comparing myself to others made me read less fic this year, because when I read them I always ended up making comparisons, so I missed out on some good fics! You're a perfect example, your fics are just so so good. (One Day I will finish the howl out of time, maybe when I stop writing so much lmao)
#23 fics you wanted to write but didn’t
so many. So Many. This complicated fantasy teen wolf au I have had drafted since last year for example. Working title A Tale of Three Kings. I have tons of planning done but not much writing lol, alongside a few half baked oneshot ideas. I have a document of just Dirk Gently ideas, a few half finished drafts there, one title I have picked being only a slow death. And I have ten ideas, a few half drafted, for Dream SMP stuff, one title being hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.
There's so many half baked fics in my google drive it will become a problem one day lol.
Thanks for the ask! :D

Yandere Dirk and Dave one shot?
Yandere Dirk/Reader/Dave Oneshot
You glanced behind you, trying to see if he was still following you. You were being trailed by a suspicious figure in sunglasses, and you had been for the past hour that you had been wandering the store. You didn't want to leave the store and lead him to your house, but he didn't show any signs of stopping.
You had considered finding an employee, telling them what was happening, and hoping they could help you, but if he was dangerous, you didn't want them to get hurt. You turned around to face them, wanting to ask them what they were planning while you were in a public space, but when you turned to face them, they disappeared in a blur.
You stood there, stunned, for a few seconds before glancing behind you again. He wasn't there. You looked around for a bit, trying to see if you could find him, or any proof that he was still watching you. You couldn't find anything, so you went back home, assuming that you were safe.
You sat on your couch, trying to work through what happened today and what you could do to protect yourself. You were shopping at your favorite store, one that was well run, one where you wouldn't expect to have this problem, when you turned around and saw a tall man wearing triangular sunglasses. It weirded you out a bit, because the store was indoors, but you had tried to convince yourself that it was because he had just entered the store.
He hadn't, and you knew that, but you refused to accept it. You saw him a few minutes later, when you looked behind you for a second and saw a flash of orange that wasn't there when you turned to face it head-on. You wrote it off as something that was caused by a lack of sleep.
It wasn't. You knew what you saw, and you saw it multiple times. You finally caught him during a glance backwards. He was quite a bit taller than you, and still wearing his shades. When you turned around to look at him, he disappeared, and you haven't seen him since.
You thought about calling the police, and got up to grab your phone when you noticed a blur of red place a paper on top of your phone. You paused, staring at it hesitantly, wondering if you even wanted to read it, or if you would rather leave it be and hide under the covers, as childish a thought as it was.
As you were standing and trying to figure out what to do, you felt a breeze on your skin. You looked to where it came from and saw that the window was open. You ran over to shut and lock it, hoping that your stalker was already outside and grabbed the note and your phone.
You ran to your bedroom, locking the door behind you and checking to make sure all of the windows were locked and the blinds drawn. You sat down against your door, hoping it could serve as some extra protection against whoever was out there and started reading the note that was hastily scrawled in red.
"i wouldn't try calling anyone" You stared at your phone wondering what you should do, if you should still try to call the police, or anyone. Maybe if you hid somewhere they couldn't see you, you'd have the time to make a call?
You looked up to see that one of your windows was open, and the curtains were gently billowing in the soft breeze that was coming from outside. Your eyes darted around the room, trying to make sure no one had gotten in when you ran to the window to close it.
You slid open the curtains to reach the window to shut it, when a hand grabbed your arms and pulled you out the window and into their chest. You could feel something buzzing and vibrating under your feet, and you heard a male voice say, "i got them, now let's go"
You started struggling against the person who was holding you flush against his chest when you heard a different voice say, "That's not a very wise idea." You pulled your head away from the first person who spoke just enough to see that you were above the ground on a metal board.
"You're holding onto them tightly enough, right?" The second guy asked. You started hitting the man who was restraining you, trying to get out of his grip before they were able to take you anywhere else.
All of your efforts were in vain though, as simply he held you tighter, pinning your arms to your sides with seemingly no effort at all. "yeah ive got them its fine"
The rumbling of the board beneath you grew in volume as it quickly started to rise into the air. You looked down at the ground beneath you, watching the board soar over your neighborhood, seeing everything and everyone you knew slowly vanish into the horizon.
Tears started to prick at the corners of your eyes as you realized that this may be the last time you see anybody but them. The man who was holding you in place felt the tears form a wet spot on his shirt and started rubbing your back in what was supposed to be a comforting manner.
You were on the board with them for what felt like hours, but couldn't have been much more than 30 minutes, when you saw that the forests and deserts below you started to give way to small buildings and houses, which then rapidly changed to a city, with skyscrapers and apartments.
The board slowed down as it got closer to the heart of the city, and as it slowed down just a little bit more and flew just slightly above the roof of a tall building, you raised your knee as hard as you could into your captor's groin and when he let go of you in shock, you jumped onto the building below you.
While you were still in the air, you realized that you had miscalculated the distance to the roof, and when you landed your ankle twisted and you collapsed, gritting your teeth against the pain and clenching your eyes shut to keep yourself from crying. The hoverboard quickly slowed to a stop next to you and the man who was holding you picked you up while the other one grabbed the hoverboard.
They opened the door and took you down the staircase that led into the building from the roof. You tried to squirm away from him, but upon realizing that it wouldn't matter either way, you were in an unknown city with a twisted and possibly broken ankle, there was no way for you to escape, you stopped.
He opened the door to one of the apartment rooms on one of the top floors and gently placed you onto the couch. He pressed a kiss onto your forehead and frowned sympathetically at you. The other man walked back to the couch, holding an ice pack. He held it out to you, saying you should put it on your ankle.
You didn't take it, instead glaring at them and telling them, "If you're gonna kill me just do it and get it over with." They stared at you in shock for a few seconds before taking a few steps closer to you. One of them, the one with rounder shades knelt down next to you and grabbed your hand. You flinched away and averted your eyes. "I don't even know who you are, or what you want!" You shouted.
The man next to you pulled away and looked down sadly, and the one with pointy shades introduced himself as "Dirk." Dirk slightly nudged the other person, prompting him to speak up and introduce himself. The one with the rounded shades told you that his name was "Dave."

Doing A Holistic
Summary: Reader wakes up covered in water in a random hotel room. When she meets a strange detective and his Assist-friend, she realizes she may have landed in the safest place, and met the people she felt had the highest chance of finding her way home.
Request: Hey! I was wondering if you could do a DGHDA fic where the reader watches the show and was transported into dirk and Todd’s dimension. And maybe ya know a little fluff *wink
Requested By: A Lovely Anon
A/N: A Dirk x reader if you squint really hard. sorry it is so short, but i will make another part if someone wants it.
~~~
Waking up in a hotel covered in water was surprisingly not the strangest thing to ever happen to you, but it ranked pretty high on the list. You had first woken when a knock sounded from the door and you jumped up in bed. You weren’t expecting anyone over, and these sheets felt surprisingly unfamiliar. Glancing around bleary-eyed, you panicked at the sight of a room that was most definitely not your’s.
The knock sounded again, this time more urgent, and you scrambled from the bed to the door. It was a hotel room, that much you could tell, but how you had gotten there was the real question. You peered out through the peephole, seeing a horrifying but familiar sight.
“Dear lord I must be dreaming...” You mumbled, staring out at the tall detective in his bright yellow leather jacket. Standing next to him was an oddly calm and normal looking Todd Brotzman. “Yep, totally dreaming. Well, might as well get this over with.”
You swung the door open, being greeted by a very cheery Dirk Gently.
“Hi...!” he said, mirroring the way he had when he first met Todd. “I’m-”
“Dirk Gently. He’s Todd Brotzman, yeah, I know who you are.” Their eyes widened and Todd leaned in.
“Are you from the future? Are you apart of project blackwing? Are you...a shark kitten?” Your held tilted, hand going to the door frame for you to lean on.
“Do I look like either a shark or a kitten to you?” You asked incredulously. Todd backed up, stammering as he shook his head. You tried to hold it in, but you ended up bursting into laughter. It caused you to bend over, both hands placed onto your knees. Dirk glanced to Todd, his hand shielding his mouth from your direction.
“Did we just knock on the door of a crazy person who somehow knows us?” You straightened up after he said that, looking to him. He was a lot taller in person, hair combed neatly but still a bit out of place.
“I’m not crazy. I’m from an alternate universe where your life is a TV show.” It was dead silent, Todd silent with shock. Dirk tilted his head, looking like he was about to say something before deciding against it.
“Oddly enough, not the weirdest thing to happen to us recently.” You smiled at the detective,  brushing off your clothes.
“I know, that’s why I told you. Now, which case is this?” Todd’s eyebrows shot up.
“There are multiple cases involving me?” He pointed to himself. You patted his shoulder, leaning in.
“Please, every case involves you. You know how it goes. You can’t control destiny. I have no doubt though that you will both figure out this case and help me get back home.” Dirk walked to you studying your face.
“And why is that?” A smile crept onto your own lips, eyes shining with mirth.
“Because you’re Dirk Gently and Todd Brotzman. It’s what you guys do.” Dirk seemed to stumble on his words a bit, not quite gripping the situation. Todd seemed just as confused, but you simply smile and walked past them, whistling. It took you a few dozen steps to realize they weren’t following. You turned back, eyebrow raised.
“Coming?” You turned back, heading to the elevator. Dirk glanced at Todd, a smile stretching across his face.
“I like her.”
Some Goodies and Some Fanfic Ideas
Some neat things came in the mail today from Mincing Mockingbird:
Tumblr media
As you can see, we have some classics: Go Fish and Old Maid (renamed Cat Lady and getting the Cat Lady means you win, so I think that's fun), and then there's this book, whose purpose is a little less apparent than it might seem. My first thought upon seeing Dangerous Games to Play in the Dark was, "This would be perfect for a fanfic series." And now that it's in my hands, I know this is exactly right. :D The idea is to write a oneshot for each game in the book. Each oneshot will be for a separate series, so one might be for The X-Files and another might be for Vanitas no Carte. You get the idea. Anyway, I love writing about the occult (as those of you keeping up with some of my longer stories have probably noticed), so this is potentially one of the best list of prompts I've ever given myself. XD The X-Files and VNC are both series I already know I'd like to tackle for this, but I'm also thinking xxxHolic, and Dirk Gently might be good as well. Other possibilities include Buffy, Over the Garden Wall, maybe some DCAU, and/or Doctor Who? Still working on that bit. I'd also like to at least finish a few of the other oneshots I'm currently working on as well (multi-chapter stories are just going to take however long they're going to take, I figure), but I'm very excited at this new project. ^^
