k so i just watched the dinner stream (late for the party, i know) and ive been seeing people go around explaining each character but one thing i noticed is that no one talks about the fact that bill literally admitted to luring people into his home and stealing their souls??? like he actually says that istg the rest of the table was just being loud when he said it BUT I HEARD IT and im pretty sure that when you name him as the "weird ass queer plus one freddie brought with him" you are considerably glossing over the fact that HE CAN STEAL PEOPLES SOULS but i could he wrong or something

So, when Alex said Bill sometimes tells "lies that are a metaphor for the truth" my mind went somewhere immediately. And I'm going to show you where.

Too obvious! You're thinking too small! Don't guess what I'm about to say!

The metaphor I'm talking about is here:

I really do not believe he actually has a piece of his dimension hanging around in that hat of his.

What I *could* believe however, is this strange scenario we see here is one of those lie-metaphors he's been telling.

The lie: Poor poor sad Bill carrying around the cherished remains of his dimension.

The metaphor: His destruction of his home dimension is something that's always on him. Small, contained, and locked away, but yet still present. And even if he hides it in a place he never has to see, it's still there weighing on his mind. (It's true he doesn't really have many places to put things, but a hat is a little on the nose!)

As you know, I think the pages are fake. I think this one in particular is crafted in such a way to get the reader to feel bad for him and this front he's putting up. Not even just Bill's actions/words here, but the way page is written in general. Notice how for some reason this page is largely about *his* supposed feelings and emotions. (I've said before it reads like some kind of bizarre noir novel to me.)

It plays up the "tragic" nature of his past and his supposed regrets. Yet the earlier pages in the book dealing with the same subject matter show a much stronger denial, which I think is a lot more indicative of how Bill actually acts.

It's not the only time he seems to play up his sad-sackery for viewer sympathy either. His supposed bar crawl sometime after Ford realizes Bill's betrayed him (side note... when exactly is that even meant to have happened?) is another example of the "Feel bad for me!" tone he adopts around the time he's sharing the journal pages.

But despite me saying this page is Bill crying a bunch of crocodile tears at us, he's still telling on himself about how his dimension digs into him, I think.

Got reminded of that reverse falls thing where it was a Gravity Falls au someone made (I don’t really know who, but it got pretty popular) where the twins took over Gideon’s role as the antagonistic tent psychics, and then Pacifica and Gideon took over as the pines twins

And like I said, this au got really popular and I don’t know what the original au was like and what got added on by other people later on, but so far what I do know that’s apparently in all the versions is that the new gleeful twins are scarily competent at being evil psychics, and in some (maybe all) there’s a blue? version of Bill Cipher known as Will who’s like,, a sad version of him who’s under the twins’ control??

And here’s my thoughts on the au: that’s not. reverse. ???? like, reverse would be,,, reverse. Like if Dipper switched with Gideon, then Mabel should’ve switched with Pacifica, how come none of them became a northwest but Pacifica became a pines??? There’s now two sets of siblings where there was originally one, that doesn’t,, make,, any sense??? It bothers me every time I remember it

And I would’ve really liked this au if it was something like actually reverse falls, like: the twins are competent with it like Gideon was, but they’re still obviously kids who have no idea what they’re getting into with having Will around them, who’s waaay more dangerous than they could’ve ever realized, especially cause he makes himself seem so unassuming

(But instead the stuff I saw made them seem way more evil and better at being villains than Gideon??)
