This morning my husband was busy making coffee in the kitchen and he went to the fridge to get the milk.  Next thing I hear “Honey, where’s the milk? I swear we opened a new one yesterday.  Surely we didn’t go through a whole liter in one day?”.
I quickly went to the kitchen to rescue the situation, opened the fridge and there the milk was, staring right back at me.  I quickly grabbed it and gave it to him “Here you go”.
Husband:  “Where did you find it?”
Me:  “In the fridge, top shelf, right in front”.
Husband:  (looks at me in total disbelief).
I’m sure I’m not the only one that this has happened to.  Sound familiar?
Many times, we cannot see the things that are staring right at us – the solution to a problem, an opportunity we’ve been waiting for, etc. Why is this?
One could use the old adage “too close to the project”.  Yes, that’s true – but there’s so much more to consider.
Reason 1 – You’re way too stressed
It’s amazing the effect that stress has on you.  It causes sleeping and eating pattern changes, loss of focus, physiological effects, etc.
What this means is that you may struggle to focus and you will miss the opportunities that may lie in front of your eyes because you’re too focused on the source of your stress.
Lesson:  learn to manage your stress levels so that they don’t affect your progress in life.
Reason 2 – There’s too much going on
Modern life is really really busy and the pandemic has not helped at all.  Most of us who have jobs are doing more than one person’s work and those of us who do not have jobs have so much going on just trying to survive.
It is a well-known fact that we are exposed to more information in one day than our grandparents were in their entire lives.  And our “FOMO” (fear of missing out) drives us to know as much as possible just in case we might need that tidbit of information at a later stage.
Lesson:  de-clutter your activities and stop being busy being busy
Reason 3 – You’re way too distracted
There are so many things that can distract us in modern life.   That series on Netflix, that pesky game on your mobile phone.  Oh, and don’t forget social media.
Take a step back – do you really need all that distraction in your life?  I doubt it.  I’m not saying cut it out all together – rather, pay attention to how much time you spend on these activities and trim it down so that you have more time to do something productive.
Lesson:  limit your time on digital distraction and be disciplined about it.
Reason 4 – You don’t believe that there is a solution
You have no idea how common this is.  Most people can’t see the opportunities that lie in front of them because they don’t believe that they deserve them and they don’t believe that they can find a solution to improve their lives.
Limiting beliefs are holding people back from achieving amazing things!  We are all filled with inner magic and most of us cannot see our own potential.
Lesson:  work on eradicating your limiting beliefs.
CONCLUSION
Make a commitment to yourself today to work on the lessons learnt from this article.  You are amazing!  If you clear your mind from the clutter, de-stress, eliminate distraction and work on your limiting beliefs, you can accomplish amazing things and will find the solutions you are looking for.
Go for it – what are you waiting for?
Here’s something to think about:
“When you give yourself the gift of some morning peace away from your busyness, the hardwired capacity of every human brain to access the realm of pure genius becomes activated.” – Robin Sharma, The 5AM Club

The #SevenDaysOfFocus are completed. We ended this #meditation program with a discussion of #rejuvenation, a key tactic that many forget when they’re trying to improve their #focus. ⏱ Many of us like to set timers for the period we keep our focus while completing tasks. And that’s a great tactic. But equally important is to get some energy back when that timer is finished. Get up. Stretch. Walk. Squat. Look out the window. Breathe. Get some of that energy back for the next task. 🛌 It’s important to remember to rest and recover after exercise, right? That’s where the growth happens. And it’s equally important to rest and recover during the workday for short periods to keep our focus for the big tasks during the day. So schedule and do it. Don’t power through task after task and try to be a Superman. We work most effectively in chunks with proper breaks during the day. 🧘🏼‍♂️ And don’t forget to keep up with #meditationpractice each day, too - keep that mindfulness going so we’re aware of when we need those breaks. 💪🏻 #meditatorsofinstagram #dailypractice #distractions #digitaldistraction #meditate #relax #breathe https://www.instagram.com/mudlifecrisis/p/Bw3_0KFAWrk/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ogwxodkkj6se

(via Attention Economy - Are we Paying any Attention?)
There is an all out fight for grabbing the attention of customer. There is sudden explosion of content that combined with sharp shortening of attention span thier is frantic battle for the most valuable intangible asset, and it is our attention.
Moot question, are we paying any attention to our own attention, perhaps we don’t know but they are paying every possible attention on our attention, for them it is a multi-billion dollar business, not less but much more, their attention to make us pay for our loss of attention.
With such a rapid spurt in the digital world, our attention has suddenly become the most valuable commodity. Every top digital player from Google to Apple to Amazon to Facebook is fighting to get a larger share of the limited pie of our attention. Digital advertising is what carries the bulk of the revenues of these companies. They care about us but about holding our attention.
Their primary goal is to keep us hooked; they do so by driving us to scroll and search using their products over competitors. They are doing everything to get those revenues from us and they don’t care about the long lasting impact on our cognitive capabilities, we are getting hammered and mind is depleting its brain power to get the rest needed to be the best.

Comment: add_hawk said "#thoback to one of the many places I've enjoyed a moment of quiet while drinking my coffee this year. Sometimes it has to happen on a roof. Disappointed to say those moments have changed since the advent of smart phones, but we can still have them. Just a little more work. #coffee #senegal #Dakar #digitaldistraction #add_hawk"

One Day at a Time was the theme of Day 6 of the #SevenDaysOfFocus. And the lesson today was #multitasking. 🐒 Hint: it doesn’t exist. We talked about this yesterday a bit, but it’s completely worth mentioning again. The idea that we can rapidly switch gears and go back and forth between tasks, with no loss of #productivity, is entirely false. I will not doubt that some people can do it better than others, but no one can really do it well and not lose focus on their work. 🧠 Figure out ways to keep yourself focused on just one thing. Use #meditation to train your brain to notice the #distractions and move you back to the task at hand. Don’t let #monkeymind rule your work. 😃 You’ll be happier, healthier, and truly get meaningful work done. 🧘🏼‍♂️ #meditatorsofinstagram #meditate #meditatedaily #distractions #digitaldistraction #dailypractice #focus #mindful #mindfulness #awareness #goodhabits https://www.instagram.com/mudlifecrisis/p/Bw1b3h8gAsT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1sx4y54ywm9v8

Completed Day 4 of the #SevenDaysOfFocus today. The #meditation was all about #digitaldistraction and how to wean ourselves off it. 📱 Mostly it was the same stuff you hear elsewhere - turn off notifications. - chunk your social media use. - schedule time for email reading and responses. 💻 The point is that we have more distractions today than we’ve ever had before. And they’re all artificial. We don’t spend enough time getting outside and doing stuff in nature, with our bodies moving in natural, evolutionary ways. We sit in chairs and on couches. 🌲🏔🌊🌵 We lose the connection we have with the real world: the world of trees, lakes, mountains, grasslands, deserts, wetlands, oceans, and tundra. Adding that back into our lives is absolutely key for living as a part of this world. Sure, take pictures while you’re out having fun in the real world, but save posting them till you’re back in the zoo. Enjoy the real world while you’re there. 🧘🏼‍♂️ #meditatorsofinstagram #meditatedaily #meditationpractice #dailypractice #nature #naturalworld #immerseyourselfinnature #distractions #mindfulness #mindful https://www.instagram.com/mudlifecrisis/p/Bwwt4Yig6Ls/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=x7ghu8neaaim
