I've been having weird dreams lately

ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A KNIGHT...

the visual inspiration for this was a combination of Frederic William Burton's Meeting on the Turret Stairs and also Bernardo Cavallino's The vision of St. Dominic receiving the Rosary from the Virgin

this was supposed to be just a one off illustration to get the thoughts out of my system, but then I started thinking about medieval politics and warfare and plagues and a castle and home as both a place of refuge, a prison, and a tomb, so perhaps they will end up as ex voto characters as well.

you may say, hey! that rosary looks like it has too many beads! it's a fifteen decade rosary, probably. dominicans are really into marian devotions. it works out.

also. spiral style stair cases. oh boy. it was that unexpectedly more difficult than I originally thought it would be to draw. the more I think about it, the less I understand them, even though I had a million photos of the stairs in front of me while I was drawing it.

The Turtle People

My dreams are trying to therapize me again.

I was a member of the clan of turtle people. I was teaching the younger turtles how to move through sand, and they were starting to move in synchrony. They asked me, “How does it feel to carry the weight of the world on your back?”

“When I was young, it wasn’t so bad,” I replied. “The world was small then. As I grew older, the world grew large and complex. Some days I struggle to move at all under the weight of the world.”

as I am replaying origins -- a game which, to be clear, I love very VERY much -- I can't help but feel that people do don the rose coloured glasses on it a bit specifically when it comes to the range of dialogue options you're actually given to work with at any given time (something I've seen my fair share of silent vs. voiced protagonist discourse about over the years *smokes tired cigarette in survivor of a decade of DA tumblr*). like... there are a couple of situations where you're given a decent range of responses, but the vast majority of the time you have about three dialogue options, and often they're presented sort of like 'polite/bland/unprovoked near-cartoonish levels of assholery'. arranged like, y'know:

I am [BLANK]. It's an honor to make your acquaintance.

You can call me [BLANK].

How dare you speak to me. Fuck you and your family back five generations. I'm going to rob your mother's grave before your eyes.

(sometimes if you're real lucky you get the secret extra 'Something else/I'm bald/but I'm a dwarf!' option)

I'm not at all saying it's worse in that aspect than the other games (Dalish Inquisitor 'Who's Mythal' just entered the chat), but I do think it's worth considering that this might be a bit of a franchise original sin that has been present since the beginning, as indeed it is in most rpgs because making rpgs is real hard, and you notice it more with the dialogue wheel format than when the responses and questions you can ask are all laid out in a list together

Gender is insane what does it even mean the dictionaries don’t even know. Its all made-up nonsense. I’m too autistic for this. Gender is canceled and silliness will take its place there is no more gender only silliness.

oh i got to experience being fully ship of theseused in my dream last night, that was fun. like i died and an entire new copy of my body was printed with a brain full of copies of all my memories from up until the moment i died. so i awoke in the new body with the memory of death seeming only to be a lapse in consciousness but the truth of my situation was clear to me and i fell to my knees and just started screaming at the top of my lungs freaking out having a meltdown it was very dramatic and cathartic 10/10.

someone uploaded the hypdream story on yt and thank god lol but i’ve been having Thee time of my life so far like this alone had me reevaluating an observation about samatoki’s speakers i made forever ago 😭😭😭😭

but it’s nice of hypdream to confirm that ramuda’s speakers are made to symbolise eyes thru ghost rio’s forest!!!! in the linked post lol, i mentioned that jakurai and samatoki both have those spherical speakers, intentionally for jakurai to connect him to ramuda!!!! at the time of that post i assumed it was foreshadowing on samatoki’s beef with ramuda on his part, which can hold true, but with the way nemu’s speaker is very clearly symbolising her mother’s embracing protection, samatoki’s is probably symbolising the very same, in the form of his mother watching over him

I got done making my christmas presents so i started cooking up some og stuff for kicks. Then i got handed some MORE presents to make up so this thing has to go in the slow cooker for a bit to slowly drive me insane.

i want to do a whole little intro comic for this dude but, alas, that will have to wait. for now have this wip of my beloved farm hand (named Mer, They/It) who's exceptionally shitty at their job but loves doing it anyways.

Realised it’s @khoc-week so even though I don’t have the energy to do it daily have this I did a while ago but never posted.

Arxeht my beloved. They came to me in a dream where I was a replica (of multiple people but looked most like Vidar) made by apprentice Nort/Xemnas, who was the fifteenth member of the organisation and also had my knowledge of hit video games Kingdom Hearts and kept getting randomly thrown through space and time.
