DP x DC prompt [17]
Tucker meets Danny (no not that one, Danny Temple)  through a Reddit about being a reincarnated important person.
They bond over a period of several weeks over their struggles with sudden positions of power and the responsibilities that come with that and surprisingly also over having a vigilante friend.
Danny Temple laments the fact that he hasn't seen his vigilante friend in a long while and his cult is keeping him busy so he can't just go out there and meet up
Tucker figures he could do his new buddy a favour. Kidnap some vigilante as a show of... friendship? General approval? To Signal that are allies or something. Drop him in egypt or wherever Danny's cult is at so they can catch up without anyone getting suspicious or whatever.
Shouldn't be too hard...
Though, wait, maybe he should keep kidnapping more as a last resort kinda thing. He should first just try to get the vigilante to act on their own by simply leaving an anonymous tip about their hidden, secret, possibly nefarious meeting. That seems less risky than full on kidnapping.
Tucker plans on asking his Danny, the Phantom one, on how he might get lured into a situation like that. Tucker doesn't really want to involve him in the actual action though... he'd feel bad if Danny took a hit on his reputation for this.
On that note. Tucker should ask his other Danny who exactly his vigilante friend is.
"Oh! It's Red Robin" he looks so proud about it.
Tucker realises he's going to have to step up his game a bit more cause he's sure tricking one of the Gotham birds is going to be a bit harder than your average teen hero (the kidnapping plan is starting to look even less appealing now...). But let it never be said he backs down from a challenge!
---
During a video chat while team Phantom is at Nasty Burger;
"Hey Danny come meet Danny"
Danny looks up from his food to see what Tucker is doing, "You're having way too much fun with our names being the same"
A voice pipes up from Tucker's PDA with laughter,  "it's very confusing sometimes"
"Anyway, hi Danny, I'm Danny"
Danny T can be seen grinning on the screen, "Hello Danny I'm- oh damn, that's even weirder"
Now Tucker and Danny are both confused.
"You look just like my buddy Tim"
Danny seems to find the whole thing funny so Tucker leaves the two of them to it and focuses on his own extra mega beef burger until he overhears Danny T go "oh he's in Gotham now sadly so-"
"Hm? Who?" Tucker asks and Danny distractedly goes "Tim" before going back to his conversation with other Danny and Tucker's brain is slowly putting a few pieces together before tossing it aside.
Massive coincidence that this Tim guy and Red Robin both are in Gotham, and besides, there are a gazillion Tim's on the planet. So without a last name there is no way he-
"-and last time I heard he's majority shareholder in WE and works closely with the CEO Lucius Fox. So we're both in like, leadership positions"
Oh his friend is Tim Drake.
"You're friends with Tim Drake!" Tucker butts in
A startled "woah" can be heard from both Danny's.
Meanwhile Sam finished pulling up Tim's latest news article that has a photo attached. "He's right, you two do look alike"
Danny T makes a little surprised noise "oh he stopped wearing glasses"
But really, it's probably just a huge coincidence that both are in Gotham, his friend, haven't been in touch in a while, Tim clearly has the money to do vigilante stuff if he felt like it.
... Tucker figures he could keep an ear out for any drama in the Wayne family before he makes his move. It might actually keep any other bats and birds from getting involved, and isn't that insane to think about?

Kobra was a DC Comic from 1976 that only lasted under ten issues, but it was incredibly well remembered because it had a fascinating premise: it was about two identical twins, one raised by an evil cult to become the greatest supervillain of the age in the style of James Bond enemies or Fu Manchu, and the other was raised an ordinary person, unaware of the existence of his supervillain twin.
The main creative force behind it was writer Martin Pasko. Though Pasko worked on superheroes, he always felt that the most dramatic situation and heroic lead for adventure was not a James Bond or Tarzan, but an ordinary person wrapped up in dangerous events, like in Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest." Apart from Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu, with its supervillain with evil cults, Hitchcock's tense scenarios were the biggest inspiration for Kobra, and it was the place Pasko put his philosophy of adventure stories in action.

i re-read the Brentwood Arc for the 13th time in the time of this ao3 shutdown (praise be the ao3 otw volunteers yall are based and deserve the world) oh my god i have IDEAS for a tim drake/danny temple crackfic that i may never release into the wild
Do u know how fucking funny i could be if i ever decided to write a Father of the Bride (the 1991 one specifically) AU. Like,,,ik thats a rather niche AU but like,,,i could. Father of the Bride would work EXTREMELY well as an au.
Lemme explain: this could be a no capes au OR just a canon divergence post Red Robin 2009 bc i never read further past that bc it didnt spark joy
No capes au? Tim comes back from overseas after doing a business trip for Bruce as a 21 yr old (letting my boy outta dc's forever 17 basement) or going off to college as like,,,a CompSci student for a whole year and now has to break it to his fam he's engaged to a really sweet herpetologist (or geneticist either/or works bc wow he was WEIRD as hell too why was this 14/15 yr old reading about genetic sciences) aka my LOVE Danny Temple that he met at college. bonus points he's the first one in the fam to make the leap for marriage bc thats SO fucking funny (i only do things for comedy)
Post-RR Era canon divergence au Tim decides he needs to take some time and figure out his head bc oh god my boy was a MESS holy shit and somehow (hes a nosey ass/affectionate) ends up in Kobra Cult messes and reconnects to his old friend Danny Temple. Fast forward at least several wacky hijinks, a Danny Tim Road Trip 2.0, long distance pining, some personal crises, emotional revelations and like,,2 years later, tim brings danny home for dinner and hopefully not a funeral bc they both decided they wanted each others disaster selves. More shenanigans.

With This You Can Have Zatanna Kinda be a BIG Sister to Lyney and Lynette
Thats all i Can Think Of so far

Event Leviathan
It's just so satisfying! I haven't had this much fun with an event in a while, particularly in terms of the tie-ins and lead ins around it. I think I can put some of that down to the team they pulled to work on this - Bendis, Rucka, Abnett are all on writing, plus some great artist picks - but I think a lot of it comes down to the story they're telling, and their willingness to really lean into some mystery. That said, let's look at what I read for the lead ins.
I am certain being fully across the contemporary Super office titles would be beneficial, but what I think is actually more helpful is having a solid working understanding of what the various DC intelligence agencies and secret organisations are and the differences between them. Like, this event loves secret organisations, and one of the things this series does is dump readers straight into "Leviathan is taking out: the DEO, ARGUS, Cadmus, Task Force X, Spyral, and Kobra" while shading there isn't even a Checkmate on the table right now.
I think that having a working understanding of the relationships of Amanda Waller, Director Bones, Sam Lane, Tiger and Steve Trevor at a minimum towards that network of agencies, secret organisations and spywork is really really beneficial, just because some of the manoeuvering isn't particularly spelled out.
So, let's get to all the related titles, as judged by a mixture of me and DC's event listing on DCUI!
The Silencer 2018: on its own, this is a fun little 'I got out of the business to have a husband and kid, but now my past has caught up with me' story, but it's also a very solid bridge for explaining the jump between 'what was going on with Talia and Leviathan in Batman Inc 2012 and Batman Inc: Leviathan Strikes 2011' and Event Leviathan.
What I think I really want to call out in this is the cycles of attempting to escape from a cult and how the story contrasts Honor's actions against those we know that Talia has taken over many years, particularly in their role as mothers of sons. Because it's not overt about it and lets you get drawn in, but also Honor is willing to do things to protect Ben Guest that Talia would never do for Damian.
It's a very solid little read! It is a shame that this ends essentially as "fuck you Talia, I am moving my family into even deeper witness protection away from you and staying out of this Leviathan drama" only for Honor to appear on page in the actual event mostly hovering by Talia's shoulder protecting her, but given how much Talia can get into Honor's head to manipulate her, I'm not shocked it happened.
Rating: I'd recommend it if you have read Batman Inc 2012 or want an explanation of what Leviathan is and what's been happening with it.
Nightwing #48-49: Charming but ultimately not really related to any of the Leviathan shenanigans in any detail. Nice foreshadowing, glad they took the opportunity to include Dick in the event build up before shooting him in the head, but not essential.
Rating: read when you're reading the Nightwing run, otherwise don't bother.
DC Nation #0: eh. Relevant as a lead in for upcoming Super title events (it's the lead in for Man of Steel) but nothing in this is relevant to the actual Event Leviathan plot.
Rating: read if you're reading the Super titles, skip if you're reading for Leviathan.
The Man of Steel 2018: Did not read, but I figured out the gist of what happened from the stories around it. Highly relevant if you're interested in Jon and Bendis' plot arc with Jon. Not really related to Leviathan in any way.
Rating: read if you're reading the Super titles, skip if you're reading for Leviathan.
Action Comics #1001-1006: honestly I really enjoyed these in terms of 'pick up a new writer's run on the title'. Bendis really can spin a story, and he caught me up pretty neatly with what had been going on. It's again mostly background material for the starting conditions of the event more than relevant storytelling.
Rating: look I'd recommend them just as solid reads, but they're not essential for the event.
Superman #1-6 2018: Again, I did not read this. I was able to follow along just fine by reading Action.
Rating: read if you're reading the Super titles, skip if you're reading for Leviathan.
Action Comics #1007-1011: again, very much enjoyed these, and it's the proper start of the event in terms of 'Leviathan is doing terrible things, why is everyone getting attacked'. I don't know whether or not Lois and Clark have ever previously appeared on page as Spyral agents, but their secret undercover in Spyral identities made me laugh and I hope it's been used on other occasions.
Plus everyone dealing with Waller and Waller knocking Jimmy out in the Fortress of Solitude after Jimmy took some hilarious photos of her that got uploaded to the Daily Planet cloud server kept making me giggle.
Very fond of the fact that Kobra also got taken out by Leviathan alongside everyone else for no apparent reason other than Kobra sucks. It's really the odd one out in the set of organisations attacked. This never seemed to be addressed by the rest of the story, but I am delighted to let you all know it has no reference or continuity with Bane: Conquest, making Bane: Conquest even more of a useless title than I already thought it was. Sorry Dixon, nobody cared.
Rating: yeah. You want to read these for the event just to understand the premise for the title. It's really helpful context.
DC's Year of the Villain Special #1: hmmm. I think it's a solid lead in to explain the concept of the whole company-wide theme going on for 3-6 months. Very useful in terms of showing in particular Barbara's temptation by Leviathan, especially as Batgirl completely ignores the whole story.
Rating: read to understand what's going on with Year of the Villain, however everything crucial in this is recapped elsewhere.
Superman: Leviathan Rising Special #1: oh my god read this comic. Not only is it the proper lead in for all three of Event Leviathan, Lois Lane, and Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, it's just a very funny, heartwarming comic in and of itself and contains a multitude of background art reference jokes as well as Talia swanning around being evil on purpose. I had so much fun.
Rating: essential.
Event Leviathan 2019: it's the event. You want to read this event. I adore the art on it - Alex Maleev's work is super atmospheric for the storytelling - but it's also really smart in terms of who it pulls in as detectives, why it pulls them in, and so on. Nobody's carrying the idiot ball here, and they make decisions for calculated reasons with thought towards the consequences. Multiple people are busy playing other people.
Rating: essential.
Action Comics #1012-1014: Bendis hauls Rhosyn Forrest out of the cupboard to use for the first time since Tom Taylor wrote an exceedingly mid teen one-shot for Rose called National Comics: Rose and Thorn #1 in 2012 (It's...fine. Like, aggressively fine as a reinterpretation of a character to put them in a high school AU essentially). In any case, these issues were the only tie-ins for Event Leviathan that felt actually relevant to the plot? They're the good sort of tie-ins. Do read.
Rating: the main event references the important Leviathan bits in this but doesn't majorly retread them. I'd recommend reading them just because they're fun and they're across the event properly.
Supergirl #34-35 2016: so apparently in the 2016 continuity Kara's adoptive parents the Danvers are DEO agents? This is a tie-in in terms of 'the plot of Event Leviathan is relevant to Kara' rather than the other way around. You don't get anything extra towards the mystery out of this, but it's an event tie-in doing exactly what it's supposed to do - making the event relevant to the ongoing plot of the book and working through the consequences.
Rating: interesting but ultimately a 'read if you want to read about Supergirl' pair of issues.
Wonder Woman Annual (Rebirth) #3: oh lor. Uh. Some discussion of ARGUS as an organisation and Steve and Diana's involvement over the years, but essentially this is a history/reintroduction for a very old Wonder Woman villain, rather than anything to do with the event.
Rating: do not bother. Unless you've been reading the Wonder Woman ongoing alongside it. Even then I think you could skip it.
Lois Lane: Enemy of the People 2019: Lois Lane being epic and a badass journalist. It is definitely referencing Event Leviathan, but it’s also busy telling its own story. They fit around each other nicely. In terms of story: it's very clearly in conversation with 2018-2019 US contemporary politics. Rucka does not like Trump's administration, something that should not be a surprise to anyone with a pulse who's ever read Rucka.
Rating: Well, Greg Rucka wrote it. Is it strictly essential for the event? No. Should you read it anyway? Yes!
Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen 2019: they hired Matt Fraction to have fun with concepts out of the Silver Age run in the present. It's Fraction. He loves an underdog hero.
Rating: look it's not really relevant to Event Leviathan, but it is relevant to Superman: Leviathan Rising Special #1, so read it anyway.

DC Legends: Kobra
Kobra first appeared in 1978 as a cult devoted to bringing about the "Kali Yuga," an age of chaos and destruction. They are led by Jeffrey Burr, the cult's leader who also individually goes by the name Kobra. They act as international terrorists, all of their schemes meant to bring about this prophecy of theirs.
Their main power likes in their cultish behavior and acts of terror, with multiple members at their disposal. Jeffrey Burr specifically has a psychic link with his twin brother Jason, who works with international agencies to help bring the cult down.
In adaptation, the whole general concept feels a bit outdated, but if I were to include it, I would probably make them the villains of Justice League International, whether movie or series, since they are specifically an international threat, probably with Jason Burr acting as an ally to the team.
As for casting, at the very least I can make Jeffrey and Jason ethnically Indian, since the Kali Yuga is based on their culture. Dev Patel, Kumail Nanjiani, and Aasif Mandvi could all do it well if the brothers were played by the same person. That said, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan could be fun gag casting if you wanted to go that route.

Origin
Jeffrey Franklin, known better as Kobra, was a cult leader and military tactician with the goal of world domination with unlimited resources and tens of thousands of followers. Born with a twin brother named Jason, he was kidnapped shortly after his birth by the Kobra Cult and raised to be their leader. Into adulthood, Kobra discovered that he shared a psychic link with his brother, which could be used against them. The cult could not risk killing Jason without harming Jeffrey, but they later developed a device that shut off the link, and Kobra had Jason killed.
Some called him the deadliest man on Earth. He had mostly kept his operations confined to Asia and Europe. However, he began expanding to the Midwest in the United States. Kobra's men began operating in Keystone City, building a headquarters on the site of an old textile factor on Kanigher, by the river, disguising the new building with a hologram. The headquarters contained chemical labs, hologram generators, and weapons arsenals. They built a hydro-electric plant under the river, a solar energy plant in a greenhouse, and a wind power plant in a fake cornfield. Kobra's men all wore power receiver backpacks, which were beamed energy from the various power plants. The energy formed a giant power-net over the city. At Kobra's orders, they began orchestrating the disappearance of many fringe religious cults in the Keystone City area. They began to monitor closely Linda Park, the only reporter who was following the disappearances. They sent many ninjas to attack her, both at the television station and at her home, and succeeded in stealing her research.
Kobra himself, who had been in Tibet, came to Keystone when problems had arisen with the Flash. He, with the help of Impulse, had destroyed the hydro-electric plant, and had several skirmishes with Kobra's men. Afraid that Flash would uncover his other power plants, Kobra pondered enacting Project Morpheus, a plan that had been scheduled for the turn of the century. However, Wally and company destroyed two more of Kobra's plants. This event, which ruptured the energy web, made made up Kobra's mind, and they began Project Morpheus, enclosing the city in a giant force-field.
Kobra had a geothermal tap built in one of Keystone's major fault lines. Fearing that Linda would suspect this, he ordered her to be killed. Hoping to be teleported away from Keystone, which would be ground zero for Project Morpheus, Kobra's plans were shattered when the Pied Piper disrupted their power, leaving Kobra in the city. He then attempted to stop the Flash with a giant laser, a laser calibrated to his speed. However, when Impulse arrived, the laser got confused, and scrambled. Kobra was still able to fire another shot, this time at Linda, playing out the vision Wally had earlier. Wally managed to save her, but he had to run beyond light speed, sending him to the Speed Force. However, Project Morpheus had begun. The fault lines under Keystone had begun to shift. Using the geothermic power provided this created, the energy from the containment field around the city were directed to a satellite in orbit of the Earth, which relayed power to Kobra's agents across the country. Before Kobra teleported out of Keystone, he had one more thing to do, to finally get rid of Linda. However, the Flash returned, as a being of pure Speed Force energy, and saved her. He then destroyed the geothermal tap, cutting off all the power to Kobra's minions around the nation.
After the betrayal of his lover Eve during the Strike Force Kobra fiasco, she split Kobra in two and established her own splinter group. The Justice League rushed to San Diego to prevent disaster as two rival factions of the Kobra Cult prepared to go to war. One faction was led by Eve the other was led by Kobra himself.
Tumblr media
Trial and Punishment
He recently kidnapped the former hero Air Wave and used him to seize control of the world's media and satellite resources, intending to destroy a number of major world cities. However, in a demonstration of his power, he incidentally killed Terri Rothstein, Atom Smasher's mother, ensuring the Justice Society of America's involvement.
During the resultant trial, he shrugged off claims of terrorism, claiming to be an enlightened soul trying to free souls from their karmic debt by random acts of violence. Following this, his followers threatened to kill the media outside the courthouse with bioengineered suicide bomb implants. He escaped immediately prior to the Princes of Darkness adventure, causing Atom Smasher to leave the team. Soon afterwards, Atom Smasher and Black Adam tracked him down to his headquarters in the Himalayan Mountains, killed his honor guard, and ripped his heart out.
