Turtle Tail has Gray Wings kits, allows a few good loners into their group, and Thunder is still born but from Rainswept Flowers litter with another loner ginger tom called Sage Runner, Bumble lives in the Horseplace but visits to share gossip on the Island (pretend it has stepping stones due to a drout) and some cats live on the moorland but Jagged Peak moves to the Quarry in the forest part of the lake with a silver tabby queen his age called Dew Drop.

Some time ago, I've stumbled upon posts made by @skinwretch and @blimbo-buddy about an au there Bumble is a daughter of One Eye, and my own ideas spiralled out of control. So, Flower Bumble AU! Star Flower and Bumble are born and raised as a part of the proto Sisters group. One Eye, their father, lived with his own rouges amoungst them, and had quite ambitious goals for Star Flower, seing her as the next leader for his group or the Sisters. I feel like the siblings have a very strong bond, despite Star knowing that Bumble left mostly to escape the influence of her father. Bumble worries a lot about her sister, but Star always reassures her that its the live that she wants (despite having very complicated feelings about being held up to such high standarts) The plot of this au mostly goes as in canon, except the fact that Bumble can freely see ghosts without a proper ritual. Star Flower comes in the area as a scout of her group, and decides to stay with her sister for a bit, and, oh, she has a roommate! What's a "clan" though? ...Bumble, what do you mean theres been more ghosts in the area?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN SOMEONE KILLED A CAT AND TOOK HER CHILDREN??? So, yea, Bumble and Star Flower are weary of thouse "clan cats" coming into their territorry, surely nothing bad will come of it, right?

The realization only fueled the anxiety that clawed frantically inside him, scraping his heart raw and leaving wounds that stung like fire with every breath. Something had changed. Something drastic, something that left Jiang Fengmian drifting around Lotus Pier as though in mourning and Madam Yu brimming with vindictive pleasure.

“Do…” Jiang Cheng hesitated, cast a quick, wary glance around them before asking in hushed tones, “Do you think my mother has something to do with it?”

Bumble's Curse AU (DOTC) (half-baked)

The Bullshit

I think what really annoys me about Bumble's death aside from the sexism and xenophobia and the sending her back to an abuser and not doing anything against Clear Sky is the fact that THEY AT LEAST COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING WITH IT.

Think about it. The first main character of the series was Rusty/Firestar, a kittypet who proved himself over and over in spite of his origins and became legend among the Clans.

Then we flashback to the creation of the Clans and have Bumble, who was rejected for her kittypet origins and.......nothing comes from it. Literally nothing reasonable.

What They Could Have Done

They could have still killed her, much as that scene absolutely sucked, if it was to intentionally show the Clans' xenophobia, to show the Clans' flaws and how that will eventually lead to Firestar changing things. But rejecting Bumble as a Clanmate was seen as a completely good thing??

Like they could have deliberately made their stories correlate in opposite directions.

So what if the Clans actually faced consequences for literally not helping Bumble when she was abused and leading her on the path of death?

I like the idea of her relating to water or ice, as that's the opposite of fire.

My Main Idea

She becomes a crying spirit, so distraught from her death and how she was treated by everyone--friends to enemies--in her life, that her ghost, if seen, is seen always crying

(cats can't cry, but in the books they shrug, show the whites of their eyes, have kits talk and open their eyes at like one day, so I think it's fine)

The emotions engulf her entirely, so that all she can feel in her death is utter sorrow. And because ~spirit powers~ those tears are the waters that flood SkyClan--the Clan that was founded by her killer. Because she sees how many kittypets reside in it, and if she wasn't so destroyed, so constricted in how she could feel as a spirit doomed to always feel only sadness, she would have been glad for them, she would have been happy!

But because she was a crying spirit, she could only cry at the unfairness of it. Why could they get the life that she had wished for herself?

And, as Patchpelt once said in Forest of Secrets: "I remember the last time the river overflowed, many moons ago. Cats from all Clans drowned. Prey drowned, too, and we went hungry even though our paws stayed dry. This is not just RiverClan's problem."

Maybe Bumble had to do with that flood as well? It's not seen in books, so it could have happened for a number of reasons. Maybe when Featherstorm met with a kittypet or had a kittypet's kits? Maybe, to tie them further, when Firestar was born and she could feel the prophecy, and knew of a kittypet that would be accepted into the Clans and become a wonderful leader?

As well, there's the flood in Bramblestar's Storm--though the kittypets join afterward. What if Benny was destined to become someone great, almost like Firestar, but this knowledge upset Bumble further, resulting in the flood.

As well, Shadowstar lost a life to drowning--and she was the leader to reject Bumble.

To make this short and not put in detail every water-related incident, here's a list of those that drowned, and thus could have possibly been killed (unintentionally and unknowingly) by Bumble:

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

You may say that Bumble's no killer, and I would agree with you! In this case, the deaths are not murders, Bumble is not killing them intentionally--she likely doesn't even realize that she's killing them at all.

She is constantly crying in her afterlife, and whenever she sees something that especially triggers the deep sorrow inside her (like something that reminds her of her own pain or the life she could have had), a flood results--and the flood could kill anyone that gets caught in it, regardless of if they, specifically, caused her sadness.

Then, what if someone--Firestar, Princess, Echosong, another kittypet or kittypet-turned warrior finds her, and breaks the trance that had engulfed Bumble for years?

And she realizes the monster that she had become, that she made herself into, that the Clans made her into--no, the Clan founders, because these cats alive now were innocent. Just like she was. and she breaks down. The numb exterior that had built after decades of living as a crying spirit shatters, and Bumble is Bumble again.

More ideally, everyone who killed/rejected her apologize deeply. Maybe she accepts, maybe she doesn't, she's just glad to have the pain mostly gone, because she spent too long suffering and making others suffer because of it, and she just wants to move on.

And together, they send a message to the Clans to not neglect help from anyone who may need it, regardless of where they come from, and to think twice before rejecting someone based solely on where they come from. -- At least then they could admit the whole xenophobia problem in Warriors and try to fix it.

This is still very wonky, especially that ending part. My brain is still fried to blackened ash from final exams, but I thought of this and wanted to get it out there.

I think Bumble would be more interesting of a character if she was, you know, a character and not a prop, written only to be abused, neglected, killed, and forgotten. And I think it would be interesting if the Clans' xenophobia was called out and dealt with instead of something that's treated as perfectly okay and normal.

Didn't Grey wing also not think highly of Bumble? Would the story change to have different versions, mayne one where Grey wing tried sending Bee away, or another where he didn't want Bee at first due to conflicts, but later defended her?

So things are quite a bit different in the AU (plus I haven’t read those particular books in a while) so let me explain…

Grey Wing knows Clear Sky very well. He’s power hungry and yearns to be in control of everything. But Grey Wing is loyal to a fault, and thinks he can keep his brother from becoming a monster. And Clear Sky THINKS he knows Grey Wing. Someone in the way of his goals. So when the group begins forming the Proto-Clans, and Grey Wing speaks out on Clear Sky’s treatment of Jagged Peak, the tom chases his brother out of the forest, two obstacles gone. And Turtle Tail is left behind, small and terrified.

But not quite.

Grey Wing finally saw that his brother wasn’t going to listen to him, and confided in his dear friend Turtle Tail. She was horrified, and unsure of what to do…but she was also a great actress and stealthy as the night. When Grey Wing and Jagged Peak were cast out, she played the part of a subservient victim, to the point that Clear Sky claimed that they were mates. He told her everything - every grab at territory, each want for power, all his desires…and she fed them to Grey Wing every time she could manage.

She’d had just about enough when she heard about Storm dying, and Clear Sky scoffing about useless wastes of resources. Then Bumble ran into a patrol, and Turtle Tail hit her limit. Hearing Clear Sky threaten a queen? And demanding the kits, even though Bumble, all scarred and afraid, couldn’t get to them? So Turtle Tail stepped in, and as soon as she had a moment alone with Bumble, vowed to get her and her kits to Grey Wing and his growing Clowder.

The next morning, the mollies set out, and when the pair reached Tom, Turtle Tail let out all of her frustrations. As soon as the kits and Bumble were out of sight. Tom stood no chance. The mollies and their precious cargo made a (ha) beeline for Grey Wing’s camp, and arrived to the joy of Thunder and Grey Wing.

A few Gatherings later, after hiding for as long as she could, Turtle Tail, Grey Wing, Tall Shadow, Wind Runner, and a conflicted River Ripple faced down Clear Sky’s Clowder. The only thing that saved the power-hungry tom was the first appearance of Starclan. They foresaw five Clans, and would make it happen.

From that day onward, Clear Sky, then Skystar, was a Leader to watch. He wasn’t the bravest or cleverest or fastest, but he seemed determined to do right…it had nothing to do with Fluttering Bird floating on the edges of his vision. Or her words at that gated Gathering…Power is like sand, brother, hold it too tightly and lose it all. How will those you care for judge you, brother, when you are judged? Will you walk the stars with me? Or be the ruler of a starless land?

(He never stopped wanting more, never stopped believing he DESERVED more. His spirit would often sit at the base of Fivetrees’ Skyclan tree, seething. His hate grew into the roots, and poisoned it. His refusal to change doomed his Clan to scatter, and only reform from the Kittypets and Loners and other Clans he despised so.)

Since you’re trying to focus on DOTC first (which actually makes a ton of sense instead of working backwards I cannot believe I’ve never done it that way lol)-

How would Riverstar change? I know canon wise he comes from a completely different group of cats but fanon wise he’s very often depicted as the most chill, accepting cats of the founders. So with the changes to how the clans vs kittypets are I’m curious.

Just thought about this too but if you decide the leaders don’t get nine lives how would they’re changing of suffix go about? Like they get this sorta protection thing but I don’t know if they’d of at that period had figured out Starclan itself and changed to take on the star suffix

I haven’t quite tackled River Ripple just yet… But I have some thoughts on him that I’ll keep tucked away just for now.

This might be an unpopular opinion, actually, but I always found it a little weird that half of the Clans weren’t founded by the mountain cats?? If somebody wants to try their hand at swaying my opinion on that, I am all ears! I want to try to stick to major canon elements as close as possible, but… I’d definitely like to see y’all’s thoughts ^^

The suffix for leaders arises from their connection with StarClan. That doesn’t change. They are thought to be the only ones to communicate directly to the spirits safe in the stars, which sets them apart from their Clanmates pretty heavily. Their name is solely a status thing, something to further separate themselves as “special” or “other”, and they are called “-star” when they return home to their Clan as their proper leader.

some thoughts on moth flight’s vision

i think that overall the story was pretty good, i liked a lot of it and it felt like it achieved a lot of what it was going for. the main thing i’m changing is moth flight giving away her kits. that felt so cruel and unnecessary, as well as not a great fulfillment of her arc. what she needed to learn was to delegate and rely on others rather than trying to do everything herself, but instead it felt like she just learned to get rid of problems instead of address them.

when she starts off the story, it is clear (at least to me, and will be in this au) that she is neurodivergent and that she operates differently than everyone else in her clan. as the book goes on, it feels like once she becomes a medicine cat the authors forget about this to a certain extent. she still has a hard time focusing and remembering herbs, and can get overwhelmed easily, but these are treated as things she just needs to get over, and that because starclan chose her she will magically become better at them. what i would like is for her to struggle with these but learn methods that actually help her and begin to rely on reed and the other medicine cats.

something else i would like to change is how the other cats treat her for being different. at the beginning of the book, their dismissal and anger towards her is not a good response to her or the situation, but instead of learning from that they all just realize she’s special because starclan chose her and they should stop now, instead of realizing that they shouldn’t treat anyone that way, “special” and chosen by starclan or not.

when micah dies, i do think that the whole part where she stays in shadowclan is very good. pebble heart and sun shadow are both excellent characters, especially here, and sun shadow is definitely getting a bit bigger role in my au. the discussion of grief and loss in this section is something i think the authors handled quite well. however, when she leaves and has her kits and begins to raise them in windclan, my problems with the story arise again. she is shown to be constantly worried about her kits, running away from important situations to check on them on the off chance that they might be in danger. they also are constantly distracting her, and at many points in time call for her, saying she barely spends time with them or has broken a promise to spend time with them. the book treats this like there is no solution other than giving them away and forcing other medicine cats to never have a mate or kits. however, i think this is a symptom of moth flight still grieving for her mate and worried that they might die as well, but also a symptom of moth flight being a single mom in a small clan that has not adapted very well to community care yet.

at the beginning with slate’s kits, it is shown how few cats there are to take care of them, and that they are often getting into trouble unsupervised. then, it is blamed on moth flight entirely when she loses the kits, and though she does have a good portion of responsibility for that situation, it is not all her fault. all the windclan cats know moth flight is not good at looking after kits, and yet kits are repeatedly placed in her care, even though she is not that far past a kit herself. this can be placed on a lack of cats, but if the group knows this is an issue, there should be more of an attempt to address it, especially on slate’s part.

when moth flight has her kits, this problem remains unaddressed, because they are always under her paws when she is working, which is not all the time. however, she also needs to learn to take more time off and spend it with her kits, by relying on reed, who knows basically everything she knows about herbs and healing and continuously offers help (that she declines) in the book. that should be the solution, not giving away her kits, which was clearly very traumatic for them and not good for anyone. the other part of this story i do not like is that it is the origin of the “no mates or kits” medicine cat rule. it feels like moth flight is struggling with her own issues and forces that onto everyone else instead of letting them figure it out for themselves. it also does not make sense how this would not affect leaders and deputies as well. if my au has this as the origin of a rule like that, it would be modified to be that medicine cats cannot have a mate or kits unless there is another medicine cat or apprentice that can help them and take over any duties they cannot perform, like a leader and deputy might do for each other if either was in a situation like that. the other possibility is that i just make up another story that sets up the rule. anyway, all that to say that i like moth flight’s vision but i would definitely make some changes and i hate that she gives up her kits.

AU of DOTC When a loner she cat runs into Bumble after Tom has been abusing her.

She takes her to River Ripples camp.

River Ripple hears how Gray Wing and Tall Shadow told her 'kittypets cant survive in the wild' nonsense and even while shes in trouble with Tom. Even Turtle Tails turned on the poor thing.

River Ripples more determined to NOT be like either Clear Sky or any mountain cat whose as cruel as that. (He had a gay crush on Gray Wing up til now)

He accepts Bumble, tends to her wounds and even tells her 'I think you're beautiful' after looking at her.

She becomes his deputy after driving One Eye onto the Thunderpath right at the exact moment an army van crushes him (takes place during WW1) all part of her stradegy.

Bumbles earned her clanmates respect and friendship.

these are the current leaders of the clans!! heres everything you need to know about them. :)

Little’Star is a young, arrogant Tom, he was born and raised to an apprentice in Thunderclan, he was made fun of for being a runt ever since he was a kit and decided to join shadow’clan to prove his strength, he spent the next many years fighting and k earning techniques, he received his leader tittle by becoming the past deputy’s mate, she retired after receiving the role, making him leader immediately.

Shell’Star grew up very (VERY) close to Little,Star in ThunderClan, after he left he turned to becoming the best warrior he could be to protect the rest of his clan, he grew very strong in his clan, after the false prophecy with sun’spot he gained the role of leader.

Cloud’Star is the oldest leader if the four, being around for both of the clan wars (to be mentioned?) shes a very timid and ignorant leader but puts her clans health above all else, she has a loner mate who got exiled when they where warriors, they had a kit together later on; they meet after every gathering to the loner.

Swift’Star started as a young kittypet, though he practically lived in the feilds anyways, his owners neglected him and his littermate, he eventually found the clan and decided to join then by asking, he immediately pulled his weight and was one of their best hunters, his littermate passed from neglect and visits him in his dreams, he gained the role of leader about a year before the second clan war, thankfully being the only leader to not lose a life from that event.

The younger Uchiha turned to the elder with a weak smile. “No.” He’d say, laughing slightly. The hand around the mallet tightened its grip, dark pools of obsidian staring at the walls of the place that he had once called his home.

A bitter memory stained with blood.

“But it doesn’t really matter if I’m ready or not, does it?” Kyosuke allowed a wave of emotions to crash over him, letting it sink in that when he made the first hit, it would all be over. He’d be letting this part of his past go.

And it hurt. Realizing the place of his childhood would no longer stand, be gone with wind. But there was also a hopeful future ahead for the remaining Uchiha’s. One that was filled with light, not shadows.

And that’s why this was important. He had to do this. He needed to be able to let it go.

With a huff, the mallet rose up, shine seeming to cause the the prisoning frame to gleam as Kyosuke gave one final goodbye…
