Let’s Talk Self Worth!!

Why do you feel this way? Well, the root cause is most likely your surroundings. Those around you, social media, and maybe yourself? Maybe others make you feel unimportant? Maybe social media is telling you others are more important? Or maybe your just always judging yourself? If not, take a moment to think of when you started to feel this way. Then, why you started to feel this way. You can journal this in a notebook or your notes app. Now, describe the wave of emotions you get when feeling this way. Let it all out, it’s ok. Lastly, think of how you can heal from this!

2. Mentality!! Let’s say you get bullied, harsh things are said to you I would believe. The people bullying or saying mean things to you, say you’re “unimportant.” Then those words go to your mind and you start to believe them. Next thing you know more negative words are said. So, your brain continues to believe them as if their affirmations. Your brain now doesn’t even have a say in what you think about yourself. Why? Well, because now you only live by your bullies words. What your bully thinks of you, is how you think of yourself. Now, do you really want to live your life like that? I would hope the answer is no. Ok, so you need to work on becoming secure in yourself. So secure in yourself that when someone says something about you. Guess what, YOU DON’T CARE. You need to start living by your words (and Jesus’s) instead. For example, you like your hair and someone else doesn’t? So what! You go rock that hair of yours cause you like it!!!

3. Stop Comparing Yourself!! Not everything you see and hear is real. Not everyone tells the truth. Plus, what’s the point in comparing yourself to someone your whole life? There is none. What there is, is your older self disappointed thinking back to you now. Not only your older self, your younger self too. They wouldn’t want to see you comparing yourself. I would hope, your present self doesn’t want to be comparing yourself too. In my opinion, comparing yourself is a waste of youth. You spend your whole day, week, month, year, life wasting youth. It’s pointless because it really doesn’t get you anywhere. It just continues to make you more insecure. Therefore, remove what you can that makes you compare yourself. A little example would be deleting social media! If you can remove it from your life, do it.

4. Stop Punishing Yourself!! In other words, stop being so hard on yourself. Just because you got a bad grade isn’t an excuse. Just because you did something “embarrassing” isn’t an excuse. In fact, there is no excuse for punishing yourself. Be nice to yourself instead. You deserve so so sooo much love from yourself. For that reason, give all of that love to yourself. Leave that mistake in the past. Learn to embrace your mistake too. It’s ok, you’ll be ok.

5. You’re Only Human!! If there is one thing I want you to remember from this blog. It’s that you are only human. You can’t be “perfect” and you can’t be happy all the time. Your feelings and struggles are important. We all deal with a bunch of things everyday. It’s in our nature to feel this way at times. Maybe you feel this way more than others, and thats ok. You are only human. Maybe you act different than others, and thats ok. You are only human. Maybe you hate your life, and thats ok. You’re only human. Maybe you can’t do things others can, and thats ok. You’re only human. Maybe you struggle with healing, and thats ok. You are only human. You are only human, imperfectly perfect. You can really only choose to love yourself and have fun. Oh, and remember that you’re only human.

Time for a round up of my favorite things ever: old Gilmore Girls promos! If you’ve never seen these, you’re in for a treat because I laugh so hard every time.

This is my personal favorite. You’ll notice that green is a theme in the later season promos. Luke peering around the corner is the best part of this 💀

More green! Also, more creepy faces and bad editing. Sorry for another Christopher promo, but the shitty editing and the way they make it seem Lorelai has never heard the word fiancé before is perfect advertising.

Luke and Lorelai advertising is good as well. Here Luke is again, hiding behind Lorelai. I also love how Luke is never dressed how he actually dresses in the show. Also, let’s just appreciate the way Lorelai is holding that apple.

I found this promo twice, once with Logan and once with Dean, I’m not sure which one I like better…

I’ve found that the earlier season Gilmore Girls promos are almost exclusively in black and white, which really adds to the drama. I know this is supposed to be dramatic, but it just looks like Dean and Jess are about to kiss.

Jess has been stressed out for a while. Luke’s is getting busier and busier because it’s tourist season in Stars Hollow, which means everywhere you go, it is stacked with lines of people trying to get pictures of everything. You were tired of it as well, the simple chore of walking down the block to get some stuff to make lunch turned into almost amusement park lines. Long, loud, and annoying. “Dean, can’t you just let me cut this once.” you pleaded to Dean who was restocking some flour.

Dean apologized to you once more “I can’t, if I open a register, then all the tourists are gonna come to my lane and ask me to charge them, but you know I would but I can’t,” he said. “Thanks anyway.” she sighed. She made her way through a crowd and put her things back. she decided to stop by Luke’s to see Jess, but he was there just as stressed as her. She saw her boyfriend getting easily angry, spilling coffee on the tables, and throwing sauce packets. She could see the fumes coming from his ears if someone asked for another serving of coffee. She went inside, and Jess saw her. “Hey, we have no space left I’ll bring your burrito and sauce later tonight, ok?” he immediately said to her. She smiled, and although she appreciated it, it wasn’t what she wanted. “That’s not why I came by you need a break,” she said. “Luke wants me here.” “Well he has enough people running around if you ask me,” she said. 

Just when she was trying to convince him, someone pushed you and spilled their sticky sugar drink all over your shirt. “Watch where you are going, kid I didn’t see you!” said the man to you, who was more upset his drink was now wasted than rudely bumping into someone. This was Jess’ last straw. “Hey, don’t push her like that, man,” he said, coming up to the man and pushing him roughly. “We got a problem or what?” the stranger yelled back. "well it's gonna be our problem if you keep fucking pushing people you don't know like that."

“Out!” Luke yelled. “Get out of my diner, no one messes with my employees or regular folk, alright?” The man looked at him angrily while stomping out of the diner. “Jess, just go upstairs, or get out of here, don't worry about these damn know-it tourists,” Luke complained. Jess took his offer with no second thoughts, he dragged you upstairs and just sat down exhausted on the edge of his bed, his hands going to his hair, gripping it in stress and anger. “I hate summer,” he said. His voice is all groggy from talking to so many customers. “Wanna watch a movie or something? Or I could get you something from Luke’s?” you asked. 

“Nah, it’s fine, just these people get me so pissed off! They think you read a pamphlet, and all of a sudden, you're an expert on this town and treat people like dumbasses in their town!” you had had enough of his complaints; your lips immediately closed the gap as Jess opened his legs for her to get closer. He wrapped his arms around your waist while his hands got lower and lower to your ass. He squeezed your cheeks while you squealed in surprise. “You’re talking too much, Jess...” you said softly, holding onto his shoulders. “I could help you…but you have to trust me…” Jess rolled his eyes “What are you gonna do? Lorelai and Rory egging Jess’ car is not talked about enough. I’d love to hear your thoughts about it. IMO it’s such a shitty thing to do??? But some people think it’s a girlboss moment.

I re-watched this episode before I answered this. Honestly, I think the most telling thing about this scene is how quick to judgement and/or mocking everyone (including Lane and Luke) is. Season 3 is a weird one for me because on one hand, we get what we want (canon literati), but at the expense of everyone treating Jess worse than they did in Season 2. They are utterly convinced of his troublesome nature and give no room for redemption. To Luke, it's even thought of as a joke ("Someone really hates you!")

Rory using Lorelai's rejection over Chris and Sherry as a rationale to devil egg Jess' car is the most impulsive, teenage girl thing ever. They point out this dynamic between them over and over again. In a way, they are both teenage girls and friends before parent and child. It's a distinction they play up every chance they get (as opposed to Emily). Sometimes, I think they wrote in all these insane acts and behaviors from every townsperson and character just to get Milo to wig out as Jess (which, from an acting point of view is genuinely hilarious). I think we forget this show is more of a comedic teen drama than an outright family drama (even if it certainly leans into the latter in later seasons). Like, so much of this scene still works because Jess and Luke have that conversation where Jess yells "Someone prepared deviled eggs to THROW at my car!" That line delivery is peak Gilmore Girls.

To actually answer your question, I agree it was a shitty thing for them to do, especially given the circumstances (Jess working hard for the car and not really having done anything seriously wrong since Season 2). Doubly so for Lorelai because she was angry about an unrelated thing and felt egged on (lol) by Rory to target someone who didn't deserve it.

A list of reasons why Rory Gilmore is a good person and not the shallow, manipulative person people make her out to be:

Took full responsibility for breaking Paris’s project and offered to help her fix it despite Paris being only rude to her at this point

Didn’t tell anyone that Paris had to take her cousin to the Chilton formal despite Paris taunting Rory/saying Rory couldn’t get a date

Told Paris that she could talk to her if she ever needed anyone to talk to despite the fact that Paris had just exposed Lorelai and Max kissing to the whole school

Encouraged Tristan to ask out Paris because she knew Paris had feelings for him

Helped Paris get ready for her date with Tristan and allowed her to borrow her mother’s clothes

Reassured her mother several times about her relationship with Max

Agreed to a coming out party because it made her grandmother happy

Helped Paris study numerous times despite Paris almost always antagonizing her

Gave Jess a chance and was nice to him when the rest of the town despised him. She even vouched for him/defended him often.

Took partial responsibility for the car accident with Jess instead of letting him take the entire blame, which the entire town was doing (and she reassured Luke as well).

Dyed Lane’s hair and then also then dyed it again after Lane freaked out (and she even left the Kim house through the window so that Mrs. Kim wouldn’t see her)

Agreed to go with her grandfather to visit Yale to make him happy even though she didn’t really want to and was only interested in Harvard

Apologized to Dean after their break up and took full responsibility for the problems in their relationship (even though it wasn’t all her fault).

Took time out of her busy end of the year schedule (when she was dealing with finals and being valedictorian) to help her grandmother pick out an outfit for her graduation

Went back to Kyle’s house the day after the disastrous party to get Lane’s heavily stained backpack and deliver it to her

Was always super supportive to her friends (Lane with her band, Paris with academics, Lorelai with the Inn, all of them about their relationships, etc.)

Helped her mother throw a baby shower for Sookie (albeit they never got to have said shower).

Took care of Logan when he in the hospital and after even though he hadn’t been the best boyfriend at this point.

Always encouraged Dean to pursue his dreams/passions and told him he could do what he put his mind to.

Anyways this is all I can think of off the top of my head but stop saying Rory Gilmore is a terrible person. Yes, she made mistakes, but everyone does lol
