I think I’ve finally pinpointed why I dislike the later seasons of Gilmore Girls (and by this I mean after season 3/4). I just hate how much it resembles a soap opera. All of the ‘dramatic’ scenes and plot lines are overplayed and just don’t seem realistic anymore. Before the show was charming and semi-relatable but, in the later seasons, it just feels like the writing was out of touch. The whole Luke’s secret daughter plot line really adds to this, too. All the characters started acting strange just for the dramatic effect, or at least that’s what it felt like. Maybe this is just me, but the later seasons just feel…off.

in the episode where luke brings april to jess’ open house he goes ”btw, this is your cousin” and jess replies ”yeah, liz filled me in on all that”. which… what???? so did luke just not tell him😭 what if liz hadn’t told jess? and luke just would have brought his long lost kid to see jess without warning him. and then would have decided to break it to him by saying ”btw, this is your cousin”. luke is insane, i love him.

Something I'm thinking about today is how lorelai was fully disinterested in Max being involved in Rory's life as a parent and hated it when Luke wanted the same with her after April came into the picture. hm. 🤔

I don't have the energy to write this myself, but at this point I would sell my left kidney for an AU where Luke IMMEDIATELY calls Lorelai after April shows up at the diner, freaking out, and they go through all this crap TOGETHER, because let's be honest ... we all hate that.

Mod note: April is in that interesting gray area of "I hated this character's storyline and what their introduction did to the plot, but not the actual CHARACTER." Like I actually found April's dynamic with Luke pretty endearing at times and I think the story had potential, but I hated the way it was used just to contrive yet another Luke/Lorelai breakup. But like, was that April's fault? No! I did think she was underdeveloped. I think the writers introduced her for the drama but then had no idea what to DO with her, so they tried to do Kid Rory and it just blew up in their faces.

Like she realised she was going to play a character who would be hated by the majority of the fanbase. including herself, but it was one of her favourite shows so she didn't care, she was going to take the opportunity.

AND MAKING HIM FEEL LIKE HE’S ON PROBATION WITH HIS OWN DAUGHTER WHO YOU NEVER TOLD HIM EXISTED. The audacity 🙄

Lorelai’s conversation with Anna was the catalyst that pushed for the ultimatum that got us stuck with Christopher for a whole season 😭

The only good thing that came out of that was Luke punching Chris🤣

So in conclusion April was not the villain she was just getting to know her dad it was Anna acting all righteous when she kept someone she knows is a good man in the dark about his daughter for a decade 🙃

Anna Nardini was one of the most infuriating fictional characters I’ll die on this hill 🤣

Maybe this is controversial but you can find the "Luke has a kid" storyline annoying without hating on April, a fictional child

luke letting drunk dean sleep in jess’ bed while he’s rambling about why rory doesn’t love him is so insane that it could be a post in itself, but it also made me realise that jess left several books at luke’s so what if april found them when this became her bed and read his annotations and stuff, wait aww

You know what I would have loved to seen more of, is April and Rory together. Rory being the supportive big sister/friend to April.

I’m watching AYITL summer with April freaking out and Rory helping her out, and I just wished we got more of them. Frankly more of April in general would have been amazing! Just more of the family dynamic would be a dream!

It makes no sense that Luke hasn't told Lorelai about April. He should've told her. I think Lorelai wouldn't have been mad about it tbh. I think she and April would get along well!

Anna says that April built her list of potential fathers from reading Anna's journals from the time so perhaps when Luke asked why she didn't tell him that he had a daughter she should have said because she didn't know if April was his or not. Absolutely nothing against being open sexually and enjoying yourself but to put the blame on him? That he didn't like kids? Was trash. They wanted to tank her character but they reallllllly tanked her.
