over the last 3 months i have seen myself called (and sometimes blocked for being assumed to be):

a racist/a bigot

homophobic/queerphobic/transphobic

ace/demi-phobic

a fascist

for expressing opinions such as "I found the characters and background stories in Veilguard weaker and less interesting than previous Dragon Age games" and "i miss the amount of tension and conflict that we used to get to explore with the player character depending on their in-game background and life history" and "i did not feel Lucanis' character and romance arc was fully satisfying while I was playing through it".

and since this all started we now have:

seen the entire DA staff laid off from Bioware

heard many now-former bioware devs talking about how toxic the workplace was during the development of DA4

seen allusions to Bioware/EA executives overriding plot/plans that the Dragon Age writers/devs would have preferred

extracted large amounts of cut content from the games that show things like increased emotional response range for Rook, or alternate endings for companion arcs (NOT concept art content, but actual written and even voice-recorded dialogue in the game files), or increased impact from decisions you could make in the game

IN ADDITION to what we ALREADY knew about how many times the game changed direction/leadership changed/the mid-process layoffs, etc.

so can we maybe not keep putting "people who come into the Dragon Age universe from a place of love and were ultimately disappointed with the latest installment" in the same trash bucket as "dudes on twitter who were mad there were trans/nonbinary characters in their AAA game". can we FUCKING as a community acknowledge that there are many reasons someone might not jive with a change in direction other than jumping to "they disagree with me so they must obviously be horrible people, whose opinions shouldn't be counted anyway" (<-if this is your first impulse maybe examine that also).

i am so tired and i am never gonna get an apology for any of it but NOW that a lot of the people who were posting/reblogging these sentiments are hearing/seeing all these other things add up. it's like suddenly now it's "acceptable" to have problems with aspect of Veilguard or want more from it, because the writers/devs have shown they probably did too during it's creation. whereas when I said these things right off the bat (because the only thing we had was the game we got. not the game we can pretend they wanted to make instead) it WASN'T because apparently expressing opinions on my personal tumblr counts as "being mean to/harassing devs who worked hard on the game" or, again, assumed I am a racist/bigot/facist/queerphobic.

you're allowed to still like Veilguard. it's fine i promise. you can love the game if you love it and my not loving it has nothing to do with your own relationship to this piece of media. i am happy there are people who truly can enjoy it without massive Caveats. but i am still seeing like 3-5 posts Per Week express those opinions and it is really destroying my love for the community i once enjoyed.

Can we talk about Peri for a minute?

I haven't seen the new show yet but I HAVE seen the original Fairly Odd Parents. And I find it worth wondering — How do you guys think Peri felt about Timmy after everything?

First of all, the obvious — Timmy was Peri's older brother. Timmy was there for his birth, Timmy named him, Timmy was there — Just to one day have to forget him. Do you think there's some resentment there? Sure, obviously Timmy had no choice in forgetting, but what was Peri supposed to think? He couldn't have been too old when Timmy lost his fairy godparents, so do you think he could truly internalize that it was just the rules?

And for another — I like to believe that Peri changed his name with knowledge of what "Poof" meant, with it being a slur. So do you think he was angry with Timmy for calling him such? Or did you think he tried playing it off as Timmy being young and not understanding?

I dunno. What opinions do y'all have? :3

Okay I understand people feeling a little babied by being told what options are the romance options but personally as the most socially awkward most autistic motherfucker in the world, I'm very glad it did.

I already have trouble understanding how my own tone comes across to others in real life. I've often being accused of treating people like theyre stupid when teaching the something, even though to me I'm just trying to be as clear as possible so no misunderstandings are had. It's very difficult for me to tell the tone of how a character will say something, especially with nothing but a line of text that most often doesn't match the dialogue at all (which can't be helped, because most times the dialogue is too long to fit).

As someone who already replays conversations several times to find the most "in character" responses for my Rook, flavor indicators are crucial for me. I'm not here to play a Telltale "Glass him" game every time I talk to my companions.

I don't really see what the problem with this is either. The previous games used colors/icons to tell you what flavor of response each option is, yeah? Didn't only Origins give you the exact phrase you would say due to the protagonist not being voiced, thus eliminating the need for dialogue wheel icons?

I understand not wanting to be babied and I get poking fun at the het cis gamer dudes for needing to be told they're flirting with a man, but this is an accessibility feature. Maybe that's not something you need but other people (like me) very much do. And I don't think anyone who has ever talked to another person can say it's particularly comfortable to have someone think you're flirting with them when you really, truly and honestly were not.

I kinda hope it's acknowledged in A New Wish that Peri and Jorgen are related.

Like there's a lot of potential with it.

Remember the FOP episode where Jorgen got sick and it was revealed that Cosmo and Jorgen are cousins? Then in the meantime, Cosmo had to fill in for Jorgen's role?

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see a similar thing happen, but this time, Peri has to fill in for Jorgen, and enforce the rules.

The reason why Jorgen picks Peri would be that he doesn't want a repeat of last time with Cosmo (the rules shattering nearly ended the universe).

So this time, he picks Peri, who he feels is more responsible.

It'd be fun to see Peri kinda lose it and bite off more than he could chew while trying to enforce the rules and take responsibility of the role. But at the same time, he'd totally hide how he really feels so he could make his dad proud (also Jorgen).

I'd like to imagine that this would happen after the battle of the big wand, because of Jorgen assuming that since Dev's memories were wiped and Peri isn't a working fairy godparent, he could do the job.

Idk, this concept just sounds so cool to me and seems like something that could actually happen.

Plus, we could potentially get a full hug between Cosmo, Jorgen, and Peri, just saying.
