Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you decide who's talking <3 Idk man the idea that you begin to hate someone you used to love, but that hate only ends up expressing the love you still carry for that person, and now you're stuck in this vicious cycle of playing chase to hurt the other because it's the only form of twisted affection you cling onto until one of you dies. Modern AU Dragon doing his research for his case against Garling and stumbles upon an old case just recently made public after the expiration of its NDA.

Figarland Garling isn’t just the worst kind of nepo baby scum in the business world no he used to be a highly respected military officer who was quote unquote “honorably discharged’ shortly after the date on the case file. The way the story goes he was obsessively stalking a fellow officer's wife for years, hiring private eyes to get him pictures of every minute of her life and keep journal entries about how he steal her away from her brute husband. The journal entries are especially confusing due to its oscillating nature: some days he’d practically be writing sonnets in the victim's honour and others he’d be calling her every slur in the book and then some.

It all came to a head one evening when he found and cornered his victim in at a banquet and tried to force a kiss (with escalating intentions) on her. The woman was later charged with assault after nearly ripping Garling's lip off and breaking 2 fingers in the scuffle, despite it clearly being self-defence. If it wasn’t for an eye witness and security cameras the whole incident would have been a he-said, she-said situation. The whole ordeal was settled out of court with a permanent (and seemingly well enforced) restraining order, the NDA (at the Figarland Family's request) and both parties being put under house arrest for a couple months.

The case left a horrible taste in Dragon's mouth and only reaffirmed his desire to not back down from the case. He had already put in a request to access the security footage from that night so that no one could deny that man was a monster. He should be hearing back any moment now…

A chime sounded from his laptop with a video file. He immediately booted it up.

Hmm, good quality visuals. Clearly the owners of the banquet hall weren’t kidding when they advertised safety on their property. First Garling came into frame, it felt unnatural to see him so young. The victim should be coming into view any moment now.

And then she did. And Dragon just about fainted when he recognized his Mamay.

The worst part is that he couldn’t legally take this case. Conflict of interest. He can’t get justice for his mother with his own hands and his own work, and that realization very nearly has him turning back to old, bad habits from his days in the marine corps.

He can’t take this case, but he does know someone who could. An old friend of his who he served with then, and practiced with now.

He scrolls through his contacts and singles his out.

There’s only one or two rings before he pics up.

“Issho, I need a favor.”

This would probably end up dealing with military police due to when the crime took place, but come hell or high water, his mom would never have to be afraid of that bastard ever again.

And if Garling- for any reason- learned what hand Dragon had in Issho reopening this case, and decided to pay him and his family a visit, well…

Out in the rural south, the police don’t usually get called for problems that your second amendment right can fix…

so like. y’know how there are men who assault women they aren’t even attracted to, women they see as beneath them and this assault as a reinforcement of that status and nothing more, or especially like. military/war situations. defeating/destroying your enemy. that’s what i mean w the degrading & hurting thing in the tags
