Hi! Long time sci-fi fan (read old man). Do you think you could find the original dust cover art for J. G. Ballard's book, The Crystal World," and post it, please? I remember thinking it the most oddly beautiful piece when I first saw it, but it's been decades ago, and it still retains a space in my head. Thanks so much!

Yeah, here it is! It's from 1966, by German surrealist Max Ernst:

I actually indirectly referenced this cover in the opening pages of my book on 70s sci-fi art -- after Richard Powers started the trend of surrealist science fiction cover art in the 50s, a lot of other publishers jumped on it, and some went as far as to get fine artists like Ernst rather than illustrators. Good eye, it's really a standout cover!

So...

I'm questioning if I may or may not have DID-

I was doing research for one of my OC's that has DID and I realized some of the things (Zoning out, disconnection, voices in my head, etc) are things I go through almost every day.

I don't want to self-diagnose just in case so I'm gonna wait and talk to my therapist about it.

While I have the chance I want to ask people who have DID something-

5 facts about Aurora Rose Mist-Crystal, AU edition!

1: She has zero knowledge of her birth family, and wants to keep it that way. Her name was chosen by the firefighters who found her in their baby drop-off box, and both Nebula and Lemon liked it enough to keep it. (her Sims 3 counterpart was the daughter of a poly-am trio of founders in Gen 1, and their names are long lost to time)

2: She never knew her Grandparents. Biologically she obvs doesn't, but Nebula's parents disowned him for staying on Maxis, and Lemon's had passed away before she was born. While she doesn't necessarily miss knowing them, she does perhaps spoil any (great) grandkids she gets a little too much to make up for not having grandparents of her own.

3: She was on track to do something Athletic with her life (probably soccer) when there was a job fair at her high school in the Springs, and the military recruiter, seeing Nebula with her, gave her information on the Occult Division. It was the source of many, many, many arguments in the Mist home at first, but Roro stood her ground and never regretted it.

4: Cadence is both a big sister and mother figure to her; anything Ro couldn't go to her Dads about (which was a lot, go figure), Cadence was more than willing an able to help with, be it physical issues her Dads didn't share, first date jitters, or even how to propose to Opal years down the line, big sis was there. (and, in this AU, remains with the family for...generations to come.)

5: perhaps in parallel to Opal and Calcite being close, she and Amber have a very special bond. They would often be found in the backyard stargazing together, and through many a long conversation Ro would help Amber to figure out her dream and to temper her expectations with caution just a little bit. Though Ro doesn't live long enough to see her great-granbaby off to Selva, Amber credits her survival to Granny Ro teaching her to be wise.
