I would be absolutely obssessed with seeing art, fic, or headcanons by you about The Reader. I don't know if that's in your wheelhouse but it sounds FUN
Anonymous asked: (The Reader of TBoB)
Now, there's an interesting thought exercise.
We're starting with the assumption that The Reader of TBOB is an independent unseen & unnamed character, not just you-the-reader. We're assuming this because (like I mentioned in the post that originally preceded this ask when I received it two months ago) The Reader does several specific things and has several specific actions that might not generalize to every reader.
In fact, I'll go a step farther: we know that TBOB is supposed to be able to update live as the reader reads it (for example: Bill interrupting the page on his weaknesses to Gatsby us; Bill asking for blood and reacting to receiving blood all on the same page, implying that his reaction must have only appeared on the page after getting blood). And so, I headcanon that the book we read is how TBOB looks after The Reader is done with it—after the Theraprism staff has inserted their note and confiscated the book from Bill, thus preventing him from making any more updates to it, permanently fixing it in the form it was last in when Bill had his hands on it. We're not reading Bill talking to "us"—we're reading his half of a conversation he was having with someone who held the book before "us."
So what do we know about this hypothetical reader?
- They know about the main characters of Gravity Falls. Bill doesn't have to explain who Ford, Stan, Dipper, Mabel etc are. He just dives into talking about them like he assumes the reader knows exactly who they are and he's confident that learning their dirty laundry will be appealing. On the other hand, he DOES stop to tell them about who other people are: the Henchmaniacs, Time Baby, the Shaman, the Anti-Cipherites; so he doesn't just take it for granted that they'll know anyone he's talking about. He has some reason to think they know about the residents of Gravity Falls, specifically. (This is noteworthy if we're assuming the reader ISN'T from our world and thus DIDN'T watch the cartoon.)
- They haven't met Bill before—he says at the start of the book that this is their first meeting. But, they do know who Bill is in general—also at the start of the book, he says he's sure the reader is thinking about how he's all-powerful, allegedly dead, and also imaginary. A reader unfamiliar with Bill could've gotten "allegedly dead" from Ford's note, but not the rest.
- They're either from a reality where Bill is imaginary—such as the Real World™—or from a reality where Bill is believed to be imaginary—such as, say, the regular canon Gravity Falls world. The reader could be somebody who read some old Ciphertology pamphlets and went "what a goofy made-up god," got their hands on an old Elias Inkwell Cipher Symphonies cartoon, heard about the medieval English "bastard triangle" superstitions, knows about the "summon a cryptid triangle with spaghetti" urban legend... etc. There's lots of ways a reader could believe Bill to be "imaginary" while not being from our real world.
- In spite of knowing who the Pines family is, reading Ford's warning about the book, and soon seeing that Bill's clearly real, they're willing to, in rapid succession: 1. become the book's new master and summon Bill (at this point they MIGHT still believe the book's a hoax), 2. agree to take Bill's deal, a favor in exchange for knowledge & secrets (at this point the book's animating itself in their hands so they know this is The Real Bill), and 3. give the book their blood. From that point onward, Bill starts rearranging the reader's brain, so we can't assume that their actions are exactly the same as they would have been at the start of the book—but up to that point, their actions are all their own, and they're game to make a deal with Bill and give him their blood.
- At the end of the book, when The Reader's mildly delirious from blood loss and Bill has removed their shame, fear, hesitance, and kicked up their impulsivity—even then, reading the letters from the Pines family is enough to convince them not to follow through with helping Bill take over the world. So when they're as clear-headed as possible they'd knowingly make a deal with Bill, but also when they're at their most emotionally compromised the Pines' words can still talk them down from attempting Weirdmageddon.
- We can pick up a few personal details on them from what Bill says about them (they crave love, sugar, and salt; they want to know about Bill's weaknesses; they're VERY convinced that Bill must be lying about never being in love; they've had at least one perverted thought in their life; etc), but since the authorial intent is that the things Bill says about The Reader can apply to as many IRL readers as possible, these are still deliberately pretty broad & generic even if they can't apply to 100% of readers.
- Because the questions about Bill's love life are framed like things the reader is saying and Bill is clearly frustrated with these questions, I think it'd be reasonable to theorize that some of the other headings in the book that are framed like rhetorical questions are actually being asked by The Reader. (ex: "Bill, if you died, then where are you now?" "How does it feel to be half alive?") So from our perspective Bill's the only one steering this ship and just assuming what we-the-readers want to know about, but in The True Reader's hands, they may have played a significant part in choosing the topics and flat out asked Bill about things they wanted to know about.
- They seem to be familiar enough with Ford's journals that Bill thinks offering them a handful of lost pages will be the just the thing to fully win them over (or else keep them distracted enough for Bill to finish rewiring their brain lol)...
and this is where I think we can make a good guess about where The Reader comes from.
When Journal 3 was about to come out, OregonParksDept on twitter popped up to roleplay as a park ranger named Gus who finds Journal 3 in the dirt, asks if anyone knows whose it is, says he's gonna ask some other rangers to look at it, and then locks it up stating that everyone who read the book either got headaches or nightmares. J3 is later sold to the public at a bake sale. Since at the end of Journal 3, Ford says he's tossing his journals into the Bottomless Pit, we can assume J3 must have landed in Gus's dimension.
And then, when TBOB's going to come out, Gus discovers it (probably fell through the same rift as J3), tries to burn it up, and then mysteriously disappears; some other ranger uses the Oregon Parks Dept twitter to ask the public for info on his disappearance, and Bill's hotline and TINAWD suggest Bill set Gus on fire.
But, the twitter account still has Gus's earlier liveblog of trying to destroy the book. Meaning whatever ranger updated it next must have seen Gus's saga. They know about TBOB's existence and that it was related to Gus's disappearance; and, as we know thanks to both Gus and Ford, if you destroy or discard TBOB it'll just come right back to you.
So here's my theory:
The Reader is a ranger at the same station as Gus. (Or someone close to the rangers—a volunteer, a spouse, a kid—someone who's in and out of the ranger stations all the time, at any rate. Someone in a position to reach TBOB.) They read J3, which is why they knew about Gravity Falls and the broad strokes of Bill's plot and knew enough about the Pines family to be interested in their lives, and particularly knew enough to be interested in missing journal pages; and why they didn't know about characters like the Henchmaniacs or Anti-Cipherites, which is why Bill had to explain about them.
When Gus opens TBOB properly for the first time, Bill writes a personal letter to him; when The Reader opens it, Bill's letter shows he knows some things about them—but things only related to what they'd currently be thinking about ("Wow it's bill! Is he real? Shouldn't he be dead?"), not biographical details like with Gus. There's an obvious Doylist reason for that, but my Watsonian explanation is that Bill got a chance to spy on Gus, likely through J3, but didn't get that opportunity with The Reader so he's having to skim their surface-level thoughts and do a cold read on them. Maybe The Reader read J3 way later than the other rangers.
It's possible The Reader bought J3 at the Oregon Parks Dept sale and read it, then became a ranger because they read it and wanted to be somewhere they could find out more.
Since Gus seems totally baffled by TBOB and doesn't connect it with J3, Gus probably didn't read J3 very closely; most of the other rangers probably didn't either; so The Reader is likely the only one who powered through the headaches and/or nightmares to read the whole thing and learn its secrets. So whoever they are, they're cut from the same cloth as Ford & Dipper (which lines up with the fact that Bill doesn't try to tempt them into a deal with money, love, fame, power, etc., but rather with knowledge and secrets).
Thus, when TBOB inevitably teleports back into the ranger station, The Reader is the only one at the ranger station who knows what they're looking at. They recognize the logo of the triangle with a top hat; they know who Bill is; they recognize the handwriting in the letter at the front warning readers away from the book. Journal 3 is a diary describing things that never happened in a town that doesn't exist, when The Reader read it they probably told themself it had to be fake... right? right??
And that's why, when they open TBOB, they're sure Bill must be imaginary—but very ready to be persuaded that he's real.
Of course, the book had to be blank when they opened it. They probably made a deal with the book (and even offered it their blood) telling themself they were just doing this to try to find out what happened to Gus, that would sure be a good excuse to justify making contact with a megalomaniacal god... but, once Bill starts talking to them, he doesn't mention Gus once. So it seems The Reader was pretty quick to push their dead coworker out of their mind in favor of pumping Bill Cipher for the secrets of the universe.
And that, I think, is the measure by which we should judge the Reader's character: they're basically Ford if Ford was actually a callous, heartless prick. They also summoned up Bill for knowledge and wisdom, but they already knew he's tried to conquer the universe, they knew he's killed people—including someone they know and work with—and it's not on their mind at all as they interact with him. All they're interested in is Bill, what he knows, and where Journal 3 is from. Is it any wonder Bill's so quick to conclude they're the perfect new minion?
And yet, they're not so far gone that they can't be talked down by the Pines family's letters. Which is unexpected, given what we do know about The Reader.
Maybe they're cold and callous and disconnected from their fellow man, but subconsciously crave the kind of family bonds the Pines family has and realize that that's what they really longed for in J3, not the mysteries and secrets. (Bill does say they crave love more than anything else.) Maybe they had a budding parasocial obsession with Bill, and reading the lost journal pages and seeing how devastated Bill was to lose Ford broke through their fantasies and made them realize they're never gonna be Bill's special little human the way Ford was—just in time to hit the letters where Ford talks about what a loser Bill really is and how much happier he is to be rid of him. Maybe it was just Stan pointing out "if Bill's afterlife is so great, why won't he admit where he is?" that gave them second thoughts.
So they may be a callous, heartless prick, but they're not totally gone. There's a bit of humanity in them yet.
What they do with TBOB after that, we don't know, because that's the point at which the Theraprism catches Bill and he loses the ability to update the book, thus locking it into the form in which we read it.
- One bonus point: in the deluxe version of the book, Bill directs a specific note to "Chris" who thinks they live in Minnesota and who's been in a coma for 12 years—which is weird, if we're going by the theory that Bill's personalizing the entire book to speak to one specific person. So my headcanon is The Reader is named Chris (or "Chris" is short for their full name, at least—Christine, Christopher, Antichrist, whatever), they grew up in Minnesota, they have nightmares about being stuck back home where they grew up, and they read a good portion of TBOB in a sleep-deprived blood-loss-induced delirium and keep ducking into a half-dream where they're having the "I'm back in Minnesota" nightmare, and Bill's gotta snap them out of it and get them to focus on his book again. (Minnesota is real and they haven't been in a coma for 12 years, that was Bill indulging in a little recreational gaslighting.)

Could we maybe get Mama Walker and a reader insert doing a little craft with the boys? Like they make bracelets to help remember their mom by.
When I got this ask, I had asked if the reader insert should be my own, like how Mama is a reader/character insert or a reader insert from one of their own stories. We settled on a reader insert from their story series 'CoD Ghosts Cryptid Hunters'. I quite like it, and it's fascinating to read,,
Anyways, the reader's name will be left unsaid, but the nickname will be Val, for @brokenpieces-72 story reference.
However, to make this closer to my story-making, I'll be putting in a bit of a change. I also don't want to Copywrite (I don't know if you even can do that on here, so in case you can, I'm not risking it.) anything from their story, so that's why I'm making these changes as well,,
I hope this is close to what you had in mind, and I'm sorry if it's not what you wanted,,
I'll stop rambling now so you can read,,

"What was she like?"
David froze at the question, his body stopping like time had stilled. Logan seemed to do the same from where he sat at the table, colored wool strings and beads of all kinds spread out on the wooden surface.
Val, the boys' friend for about three weeks now, stared at the picture of Elias's wife. It was one of the few taken on their wedding day, and it was clear, even though the darling dress made her look so elegant, that she was pregnant with David. The white fabric draped over her body looked like a marble sculpture. The white flower embroidery was like vines etching against the see-through sleeves and layered skirts that hid her legs and followed her in a three-foot drape. Her shoulders were bare, and the sleeves that ended at her wrists had a ribbon-like strap around the ends of the light, baggy fabric.
A loose, single braid wrapped around her head acted as a crown, with white flowers set in the crooks and the bends. The rest of her hair was set in a low bun with a few more flowers set in the beautiful fluffy mess. A few strands of hair framing her face made her youth at the time even more apparent.
Elias talked about that day a lot, even when Mama was still alive. He talked about how she smelled of Jasmine and Ylang-ylang. How her makeup was so perfect that it made her glow twice as much. He spoke about how her pregnancy that day was kind to her, how she hadn't had any pains other than the given back pains, and even that was merciful on her that day.
David took in a breath, his green eyes (a hue that his Mama's would constantly change to no matter what lighting she was in) glanced over towards the picture that sat comfortably on the table Logan was at. The mahogany frame had swirls and intricate designs that matched the photo's elegant uniqueness. The glass that protected the photo was thin and had a clear coating to it that left no smudges when someone were to touch it. Elias took extra care of that photo, even before her death.
"What was your mom like?" Val questioned once more, turning her head towards the two and pausing as she eyed their frozen bodies.
David let out a silent breath, pushing it out for the sake of his lungs. He didn't need them to feel like they were going to blow because he couldn't find the energy to breathe again. He couldn't take his eyes off the picture, and from the corner of his vision, he could see Logan curling in on himself.
"She- uh. ." David started, brushing off his sweaty palms on his pant legs. He cleared his throat slightly, the sting of hot tears appearing behind his eyes. Even though it's been about three years since her death, he still couldn't get over it. Not fully. Questions about her always made him want to cry. "She was kind." He pushed out, his throat feeling tighter by the second.
Logan nodded from where he was, his fingers pinching the strings that were typically used to make homemade bracelets. He'd generally stopped talking after Mama's death, but sometimes he'd let out a peep or two, just to let his vocal cords feel useful once more. But he'd mainly do that alone.
"She used to do a lot of things." Logan managed to let out, his gaze downcast as he felt the eyes of his friend and brother on him. "She used to be a hairstylist when we were little."
David felt a tightness in his chest greaten at his brother's voice. It was shaky and raspy from misuse and emotion, but it was his voice. He took in a sharp breath through his nose and moved to sit down with the two, taking a bead from the pile Logan had made and inspected it, his eyes scanning the little bird that was printed on the white surface of it.
"She had a lot of hobbies." David started, his lips turning up into a soft smile at the memories that sprang to mind. "Like bird watching. She'd go out in the mornings and just watch the birds, saying that was the best time to watch them because they were just waking up with their kids."
Val looked between the two from where she sat, her eyes saddening at the sight of the two returning to their depressive states. She didn't mean for them to regress. Honestly, she didn't. She just wanted to know more about the famous woman who birthed her two best friends.
She took in a breath and looked down at her pile, eyeing the assortment of colors and sizes of beads, a few of them having bird pictures on them as well. She picked up a white thread, eyeing it like it could solve life's secrets in one single word.
"What," she started, her words trailing off just as they slipped from her lips. She took in a breath and glanced up at the two, noticing how they looked at her. They weren't looking at her like they wanted her to stop talking. They were looking at her like they wanted her to express themselves. They must have gotten that from their mother. She'd seem like the type to have people express themselves instead of bottling up their emotions. "What kind of colors did she like?"
It didn't take long for the two brothers to lighten up. Making things for their mother was something they always loved to do. Getting their dad to buy her stuff on Valentine's Day was how they gifted her expensive items when they were little, and when they got the chance in school, they'd make her anything. Cards, books, pictures, poets, bracelets, necklaces, shirts, jackets. Things that she'd be glad to have and/or wear.
Making her a bracelet of all her favorite colors and patterns reminded the two of her personality and her clothes. For example, a solid pink bead and a white one with a fox head picture reminded the two of when Mama used to dress up in onesies, especially a pink fox, whenever she'd build pillow forts with them. A white bead with a picture of the sun was a memory of her taking David and Logan to a park where she and Elias would sit on a bench and watch the two play. A solid black bead and a white one with the picture of a squid were a reminder of times when they'd go to the aquarium, specifically for the squids so they could try and spot them from where they would be hidden.
David managed to tell the story of her funeral. She used to be a medic in the army (apparently, she'd done everything) and met with a group of soldiers who showed up at her burial. A captain, a lieutenant, and a sergeant. They had said she was the best person anyone could ever work with/for. The sergeant wasn't one to talk, but the boys knew sign, and he had stated how their mother used to treat him like a son before she had left the service when she got pregnant.
Val ended up learning so much about their mother that she honestly wished she had met her. She would have loved to have a mother like that. So involved with her kids and so happy to see them smile.
Mrs. Walker sounded like someone who would have adopted her if she could. She honestly wished that was something that would have happened instead of her meeting her fate at such a young age with boys who weren't even old enough to know what death was and a husband not ready to lose the love of his life.

I am so sorry! I never meant for this to get away from me! It was fun to make, but I'm still so very sorry for taking so long!

Alright, I laughed my ass off for the last few hours, it's time for Thoughts. Jon is being so considerate, not wanting to scare Elias, but forgets he already traumatised this kid TWICE (or maybe he doesn't remember that? Martin said he was "hungry", maybe there's moments when he's more monster than person, just food for thought). Secondly, his disguise is so dorky and in character but at the same time the implication is so sad. Imagine losing your face and sense of identity like that. FEELS!!!
a good observation! how much is jon in control? how much does he remember when hungry? more monster than person, indeed. something to consider for sure.
it’s been a long time since jon’s been perceived by anyone other than martin. perceived as a person and not a local legend, a mysterious cryptid.

I'm sorry I sent the ask too early-
Can i get some of your tma character design hcs
👉👈
well of course you can! sorry it's taken me a bit to get to this ask, I'm uh. bad at keeping up with messages lmao
okay so quick disclaimer: I didn't have solid visual ideas of all the tma characters--details would change or shift or whatever, so I'll only list some major ones/the ones I really imagined well
jon:
I see jon as a japanese-british guy who's like 5'6"/5'7" (168-170cm) with a bit of a dad bod. stern-looking, with short black hair that's graying around the temples, and some well-kept facial hair. I imagine him growing his hair out over the course of the show. he's also got glasses. I've drawn my interpretation of jon a couple of times--check out my bs.art tag if you wanna see it!
martin:
uh oh this is the one that could get me in trouble with the fandom. now listen: I had NO contact with fandom interpretations of the characters when I listened, so there was no influence from fanon designs. the martin in my head is a very tall, very lanky, awkward trans guy with blue eyes, shaggy blond hair, and a crooked smile. he's got freckles and glasses, and moves kind of like he's still a teenager getting used to how long his limbs are after a growth spurt.
sasha:
okay so the way I imagined sasha is actually pretty close to a lot of fan interpretations! I see her as a tall-ish, well-put-together, academic-looking black woman with glasses and a natural hair. I picture her wearing a lot of skirts and sweater vests. she's definitely the most professional-looking of the archival staff in my mind.
tim:
I'm not gonna lie I really pictured tim for longest time as tim wright from marble hornets. I kinda still do. tall white guy with dark hair, sideburns, and expressive eyebrows. goofy and expressive. not much else I can say for him lmao.
michael distortion:
this is another one where the picture in my mind is waaaaay different from popular fanon. the distortion, to me, was not psychedelic-eyestrain-tie-dye-colorful. it was more of a black and white, reality but a little to the left, slenderman-/cryptid-esque vibe. definitely inspired by the visual auras I get from migraines. the distortion looks completely normal until you see its reflection/see it through a warped pane of glass, then it's all sorts of fucked up! but fucked up in a take too much nyquil and see the hat man sort of way, instead of a take too much acid and see god sort of way.
gerry:
I believe in natural redhead gerry
basira:
okay okay another one that people are gonna disagree with. the basira in my head does not wear a hijab. she's got her hair slicked back into a tight, military-style bun. brown hair, brown eyes, brown skin, some moles and freckles, some scars, no-nonsense, take-no-shit attitude.
daisy:
the daisy I picture is a small firecracker of a woman. she's dangerous the way brass knuckles are dangerous--sure they fit in the palm of your hand, but they will deliver blows that you won't ever recover from, if you're lucky enough to survive. she's covered in scars, muscular, very pale (I see her mostly as a redhead), and with some tattoos, too. sometimes I picture her as blonde, but I like ginger daisy.
melanie:
I've drawn my version of melanie! I see her as desi/south asian, with wavy brown hair and brown-green eyes. I hc that she dyes her hair red, but once she's infected with the slaughter it starts staying that way (un)naturally. she's short in my mind, probably a few inches shorter than jon.
I don't have much for elias, georgie, or helen, really. their designs kind of shift around in my head. I feel like I'm forgetting characters, but oh well!
I've drawn a few not listed here (annabelle, agnes)
if there are any characters in particular that you're curious to see how I envision them, lemme know!

now that i'm back in indie i figured i'd make a little wishlist of some things i want now that i've had some time to think about it. this'll be a mix of plots/dynamics and some more basic things to elaborate. if you like this i'll come to you for plotting!
age gap romances cause i'm trash and i can't help it. especially if inspired by this but i'm down for any kind of dynamic really. i'm down to play either but i have a slight pref for playing the older muse and would be down to use one of my muses (adrian or moira), or one of the fcs i like but don't have a set muse for yet (gina gershon, jeffrey dean morgan, madchen amick, raúl esparza, joe manganiello, adam driver, mari yamamoto, david harbour).
toxic intense weird f/f stuff always pls. inspo.
if i don't have a logan/veronica from veronica mars inspired enemies to lovers thing.. i will cry.
i need exes or even like they never even got that far. situationship to enemies to friends to lovers? the gruelling path back towards being together again. i want PAIN. inspo.
👀 possibly some slightly kinkier smutty stuff i miss it
hot & heavy by lucy dacus inspired — the angst of your first love, homoerotic teenage best friend angst coming back to haunt you, bitterness and nostalgia mingling in the worst way, you hate her and you still love her after all this time. optional: period piece (70s, 80s, 90s, early 00s), a dead friend dragging them back to town, one of them is still closeted.
scooby doo inspired, college cryptid/supernatural hunters  — they’re the only ones who believe and maybe that’s okay, could be a mumu/could utilise npc characters if we’d like a group. optional: more of a buffy style scooby gang who are solving problems/include creatures in it.
normal people vibes. always. i need it. i will die.
figure skating or dance partners one of my favourite tropes ever!!!!
sister's bf or female best friend plot for dove. i love complicating the relationship with her sister further.
literally anything for elias where i can explore their backstory and have them fall in love.
messy choreographer/dancer thing for grayson.
best friends to lovers for jacob.
good girl/asshole or a kind of grumpy/sunshine dynamic for letha. someone who pushes her out of her shell.
anything for river. always. that's literally my favourite muse.
messy fwb with feelings for rowan.
any sort of opposites attract dynamic for sosie. she's a bitchy rich sorority girl with a bad attitude, i'd love for her to meet her match.
a rivals/enemies to lovers dynamic with a rival soccer player for stevie. alternatively stealing a friend's girl who she thought was straight.
i'm predictable and want a younger sister's best friend thing for warner i don't care!!!! it's fun!!!

Blue Is The Water (that beckons that buries)
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/7w4iIgH by Pitchpine Jonathan Sims is a merperson who has always lived below the waves. One day, however, he steals away and ventures to the surface in search of someone he lost. On newfound legs, his search takes him to The Magnus Institute — the foremost academic institution researching crypto-zoology and crypto-marine biology, headed by the enigmatic Elias Bouchard. With his new position as Head Archivist, Jon is in the perfect place to continue his search. Hiding his secret identity as merfolk should no problem, either. After all, it's not like he wants to be friends, much less more-than-friends with this humans. And surely none of them are hiding secrets of their own. Right? ... In other words: It's a selkie and merfolk AU! Jon is merfolk, and goes to the surface in search of a long-lost friend. Welcome to our WRW! We do these weekly to provide plot drops, challenges, and highlight starters. Anyone is welcome to use these bullet points. Let us know if you want us to include one of your setting-related plots in here for next week by sending us a bullet point!
Tumblr media
Is that a giant beak? Our current plot of the week sees the town invaded by… weird little guys. And they sure brought their friends.
It's the last week for our Summer seasonal event! If you want to go on that lighthouse tour or to the ren fair, now is the time.
Midnight Drive-In's newest movie seems... to have mixed reception? It's an indie film called The Haze Has Lifted, and some people speed out on screeching tires while others leave with an eerily peaceful demeanor. Either way, they claim that after watching the movie, they now know all.
Strange howling noises are being heard in Mossthorn Bog. They don't sound like they're coming from coyotes or screaming moose. So what's responsible? Some wonder if it's a new cryptid and they've taken to calling it Bogaroooo.
Tumblr media
Complete challenges and claim prizes!. You can read more about how they work and what prizes are available here. Bonus challenges are an opportunity to earn an extra point per week but are harder or weirder.
This week’s challenge:
Start 2 dash conversations by replying to answered anons.
Bonus challenge:
Send an anon to every character over the course of the week.
Tumblr media
Rachel is taking over MuerteArte, Metzil says no questions.
Alistair says Sugar Pot is reopening, no healing.
Rosemary needs a karaoke partner, stat.
Beau says be like Olivia and get your license
Maggie is celebrating 25!
Kaden doesn't understand smores :/
Elias had too much pie.
Masami missed the bonfire, rip.

In response to THIS POST, so that I don't hijack the poor OP's thunder.
Just in case anyone ever decides to furrify my characters, here's a guide: Gabriel: a German shepherd that's flunked out of service dog training, but still tries to open every door and retrieve every shoe he can find. Tracey: a small, mischievous, angry goat that is furiously trying to headbutt you in the shins while screaming and spitting. Pertwee: that one alley cat that lives on every campus, that is scraggly as hell but has gotten ridiculously spoiled by the students and faculty. Billy: a very sweet stag-moose that just ate your pothead cousin's weed crop and is now unintentionally terrifying anyone who watches too many cryptid TikToks. Agent Miller: an adorably fluffy chicken, who has just remembered that she's the closest living relative to the Tyrannosaurus rex. Good luck. Sarah: an elderberry shrub. Elias: a huge swan, who is just as willing to stand there and be beautiful as he is to do graphic things to you that will up this story's parental advisory warnings... take that as you will. The Reliquus: honestly, not much changes here, they're still an incomprehensible horror from beyond reality. Maybe one of those giant bugs from the Late Carboniferous Period? Rionce: a triceratops that is trying very, very hard to look like a three-horned chameleon. Brooke/Brook: Is that a puma? He says he's a puma. He... kinda looks like a puma, though the build's not right... he casually mentions that he's had some dental work done in the past... Deimos: Seeing as how she's a dog in canon, it only seems logical to make her human here...

For the very patient people who have waited so long for updates on What You Cast Out, I swear, I'm still slowly working on it. It's just that life has been a bit awkward lately, and a lot about my home life has changed dramatically in the last 6 months. We're stabilizing, though. I'm getting ready to start re-releasing it in 2024, possibly via Patreon or Ko-Fi. And I am MORE than willing to discuss the options via DM or asks! @wedgie-of-destiny, @nightacquainted, @storminmywake, @brokenandlonelysouls, @tattur, @theamazingchickenman, @solstice-muse-collective, @axl-ul, @doublegoblin

Did a short story with some original characters from a cowboy town rp server! Reuben and Montego belong to me, and the rest of named or cameo-ing characters belong to other server members and are credited under the cut :-)
Word count: 3,046
Summary: “Montego never actually sees the property before it’s bought. Reuben asks him to come with, when he gets the confirmation in the mail, says they could make it something together. But Montego has that sad little tilt in his eyes that tells them he could never say yes to that. So Reuban goes alone.”
Bios for my guys under cut, content includes unbound chest and facial scarring, and talks of animal-caused facial injury. I hope ya enjoy!
Reuben “Bullseye” Lowery (trans, nonbinary, they/it/he)
Growing up around ranch and farm work, Reuben was kicked by a horse on a job when they were 25, an injury that caused severe damage to their jaw and left ear. They developed hearing issues and pain that made being in populated spaces difficult, struggling with overstimulation, balance, and tinnitus. As a result, it moved up to a house on the outskirts of a town called Silent Run to live its best autDHD life in relative quiet, tending to a small garden, a few cows and chickens, and a farm cat. Being somewhat of a mystery to the townsfolk, many stories and tall tales have popped up around Reuben, developing him into a sort of local cryptid. They’re just vibing though, baking, crafting, and occasionally being visited by their traveling musician lover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Montego Maldonado/Dantae Angel (trans man, he/him)
Reuben’s traveling musician partner, Montego is only an occasional visitor to Silent Run. His mother moved up to the states from Argentina during the period of the civil wars, and Montego grew up on a ranch with a stepfather he hated. He eventually ran away and transitioned as he took up a generally successful music career under the name Dantae Angel. He met Reuben before their accident, where the two of them formed a close bond and eventually privately connected on their transness. Montego was the one who took care of Reuben in the aftermath of their injury, helping it to recover. He’s not ready to settle down and likely never will be, but cares deeply for Reuben and visits a few times a year, sending letters and gifts otherwise. Montego is thoughtful, headstrong, and feels things deeply and fully. He likes anatomy, and paints animal bones between practicing on his guitar.
(Montego is an AU version of one of my main OCs Moses, who’s canon info can be found here. However he’s a very different man in this timeline, having been able to experience a much more enjoyable life and find happiness. General pictures below, though he does not have the same lip scar or way of dress as Montego.)

Additional characters mentioned in the story:
Valentino the mail man: lostleeches
Jebediah Claridge: Elias & Co.
Badger: Fernweh.969
Amy Lee the apothecary woman, Beau the scared newsboy: meat_h3ad

What would completely break your character?
// If/when Elias finds out that supernatural beings really do exist, he’ll have a complete melt down. While he finds the idea of cryptids absolutely fascinating, a big part of him wants to know what they actually are over being the person that discovers Bigfoot. More, what strange creature that science hasn’t discovered explains the phenomenon over Bigfoot instead. It’s fun to see the lengths he’ll go to in order to be in complete denial.

as per my earlier crack post,,
Nathaniel Lukas was the entity in Thrown Away. he was desperately trying to clean all the particularly weird shinies out of Peter’s room while he was away at sea.
Alan Parfitt finds a gremlin-like old man in a captain hat rummaging through the trash and swearing about someone called Nathaniel. When he accosted him, the man screamed “NO BAD TRASH MAN YOU’RE NOT TAKING MY COCKLE SHELLS” and suddenly Alan was trapped in a hell mist dimension all alone forever

Lonely Avatar!Reader x platonic Archive staff crackfic headcanons (requested)
Request : Heyo! Idk if your requests are open atm but I wanted to request a TMA platonic fic + maybe crackfic about reader being an avatar (bonus points if they’re Lonely aligned) that just appears sometimes in the archives like some cryptid and acts like one (ex. Found in odd places, stands in front of doorways, found *doing* odd things in odd places) just to fuck around with staff, especially Elias (probably quaking at all the weird drawings of capybaras in magical girl outfits and can’t do anything about it). Preferably season 1-2 to make it more funny I hope you have a good day/night! P.S. I really liked your Nikola and Michael fanfics ^^
TW: Reader is a lonely avatar, Elias gets messed with.
Sorry this took 89 years to post! Hope you enjoy! @johnnyjohnnyjo
No one has the permission to repost this on any website. I will not post these on other websites so if you see any of my writing on another site, let me know. Do not use my content or claim it as your own! I do not own these characters, they are made, owned and are the property of Johnathan Sims. I am in no way profiting off of this and this is made with full respect to Rusty Quill.
Martin may have brought a dog into the archive, but you showed up on your own acting like a weird ghost cat that appeared a bit before Sasha admitted to knowing Michael. You were known for doing odd things in the institute building and showing up in places you were not supposed to. Although Elias told the archive staff that you were banned from the property, you kept getting into the building and no one else cared about Elias’s orders. If security has not kept you out, then obviously Elias was all talk, right?
A list of crimes committed in the Artifact storage (list not complete, just the most noticeable incidents)
T posing on top of the cursed table, was told off by artifact storage workers and asked to leave.
The Fractal vase was missing, eventually found in the workplace kitchen. The Vase was positioned under the sink tap, and water had been pouring into it. It is unknown how long this went on. The vase was somehow empty when picked up, and was returned to artifact storage. When the security cameras were checked, it was found that Y/n had moved the vase.
The apple full of human teeth has appeared on Elias’s desk a total of 8 times and has never been checked out, considering it is a biohazard. While the cameras have never picked anything up regarding these incidents, Elias firmly believes you did it. No one else does, though. The apple has since been locked away tighter.
How the staff feels about you
Elias greatly dislikes you. While you might be interesting to Watch, your actions in the archives are disruptive and annoying at the best of times. He especially hates that he cannot See you enter the building, you just appear and disappear though the Lonely and he has no idea when you will appear. You are unpredictable, and Elias doesn't like that.
Tim thinks you are funny. You always have the oddest responses to his questions and you liven up the work day. Pranks are even more fun with you around, and he likes how sneaky you are. He always wonders how you get into places unseen, but with the Crime Talent of the archive staff he doesn't ask questions. Plus, you are a great listener, especially when he bitches about Elias.
Sasha is the only one who believes you are something supernatural. While she doesnt bring this up to anyone after a particularly insulting conversation that went along the lines of
Sasha: They teleport, obviously they are something supernatural.
Jon: It's not like you are even that perceptive. You just don't see them before they make themselves known.
Sasha: Ignoring how rude that was, I have seen them come out of nowhere. Try to refute that.
Jon: ? SuRe yOu DiD
But as long as you don't mess with her and her things, she has no problem with you hanging about the archives. She enjoys your conversation when you do speak, but is not bothered by the times she has seen you stare at the empty coffee pot for a grand total of 47 minutes without looking away or moving.
Martin is worried about you, to say the least. He thinks you are an enjoyable person, but he feels like you have an air of sadness around you that he just can't place. He wishes he could help, but doesn't know how to go about doing so. But what he can do is make tea and sit with you, something you both do often.
Jon has opinions on everyone, and he mostly just finds you odd. While he admittedly isn't that observant, and he genuinely thought you were an employee somewhere in the building for a long time before Tim told him. This confused him more, because he had no problem sending you to be helpful, and if you weren't an employee then why did you do it? He has sent you multiple times to do things like breaking into a building with Tim or getting somewhere to ask questions you should be able to. He is a bit annoyed, because ever since you showed up cursed memes have been added to his conspiracy board, and while everyone swears it isn't them, he does assume it is you, but he has not had any evidence to properly accuse you.
Bonus
The knock on the door interrupted Elias from organizing his office again. You see, there was an issue he noticed when he walked in that morning and realized all of his papers were out of order. While this could be seen as a janitor putting things back in the wrong place, he Knew better. It was you again. Honestly he wishes he could See where you were lurking today, just to know what crime you would commit against his holy archive next. He considered asking Peter to talk to the menace haunting the archives, but realized that asking two avatars of the embodiment of solitude and loneliness to meet would never go well.
“Mr. Bouchard? May I come in.” Rosie's voice drifted through the door, interrupting Elias from his pondering.
“Come in” he said, straightening up and dusting off his suit jacket as she entered.
“I have a file from the archives that was sent up, where do you want it?” She asked politely, knowing how stressed he was by the odd occurrences at the institute.
“The desk, please, I will look at it in a moment” He waited to move till she placed the folder down and left the room, closing the door behind her as quietly as she could. He tried Looking at the file from his location
When he checked the file, the first page was a statement from the Boneturners Tale, a statement he knew Jon had filed away and read a week ago. He was not afraid to see the next page, but he did not want to turn it, but the need to know and see cursed him, so he flipped it.
It was another goddamn capybara dressed like Sailor Jupiter.

Ancient rome au la squadra please 👀
I have a confession to make: despite liking to read about ancient roman culture as a whole, I have not been engaging with it seriously in recent times beyond playing Jewels of Rome (I love Match 3 type games and this one was thematically a hit) - so first I must share with you some characters from the game whose design remind me of La Squadra characters...
Risotto / Marinus:
Tumblr media
Formaggio / Azeem:
Tumblr media
Prosciutto / Elias:
Tumblr media
Melone / Felix:
Tumblr media
Couldn't find really close matches for the other five but I stand by these as exuding the right sort of energy.
To get more serious now, each time I considered this question, I kept wondering how I could tie it into the general universe somehow, and this was my thought: this is an era of legends being born, right? So what if it was rumored that there existed some sort of mythical being somewhere, whose test you had to pass in the hopes of being found worthy of gaining powers that essentially made you a demigod among mortals? This being Black Sabbath of course. And given how seeking it out will end either in glory or certain death, very few attempt it, but these guys have, and they are now certified demigods roaming the empire? I feel like they would be associated with certain gods and goddesses, too - I could see Risotto being associated with Vulcan on account of how he can manipulate iron, or Formaggio being blessed by Mercury because his ability is great for playing pranks. Melone would be a devout servant of Minerva and is probably being followed around by a sentient clay tablet... Pesci is definitely under Neptune's guidance and spends his days fishing or traveling on boats; he would be a good luck charm because if anyone fell over, he would be able to pull them right back up. Illuso is harder to nail down, though he brags about being a child of Venus. Ghiaccio is undoubtedly favored by Mars and if any of them are constantly out there battling the horrors of the age, it's him. As for Prosciutto, well, he is most likely living his life as a beautiful cryptid and a harbinger of Mors. He very much feels like he could be a magistrate, but his powers would make him more of a legendary executioner. Sorbet and Gelato would still be a pair of rascals, possibly thieves, and they would be constantly cheating rich patricians for that sweet coin and a good frolick.
This is all I have right now!
