Some of the granny squares I made and that would fit together size wise.
Also the sketches are of all the granny squares I could make, I‘m just really unsure if I want to use all of these or just some, or if I can find any different ones that would go with the ones I already have.

failed prototype #1
[image ID: three photos of a hand holding a bright orange crocheted object. The object is shaped roughly like a lemon; it has two narrow ends and a much wider middle part. Two safety eyes have been stuck on in the middle. The photos show a front, top, and side view. End ID.]
trying to make a crocheted Mallow (from Super Mario RPG). I’ve never made a freehand amigurumi before, but I cannot find a pattern of Mallow to save my danged life, so I guess I’m on my own for this one. Since this is just a prototype, I’m using orange because that’s just a color I happen to have a lot of; once I’m happy with the shape I’ll actually use white/cream yarn for the real deal. (Also, this isn’t stuffed because I didn’t want to bother wasting the filling; the real thing will be stuffed.)
pictured below: the goal (description in alt)
I’m not happy with this one yet! I think he looks like a lemon and not like a cloud. I’m going to have to try to figure out how to make the side parts wider while still not just making it a cylinder of uniform width (it’s gotta have different chunks to get the right puffy shape). Freehand crochet is hard!
next thing I’m going to try is just the same thing again with a more aggressive increase/decrease schedule at the appropriate parts. If that still doesn’t look good then I’m going to try making the three parts individually and sewing them together to make the shape.
any advice would be welcome! That would include specific advice on how to do this shape or links to where I can find a dang Mallow pattern.

Save me crochet tumblr
Crocher tumblr save me
So I've been trying to make this bobble crochet pattern for a few days now
I can't do a normal foundation chain cus that makes it way too tight and curls up. Recently i found a video by TL Yarn Crafts explaining how to do a foundation crochet that's super stretchy.
youtube
I was excited to try it out but i think because the single crochet row is also the same row as the foundation row, it puts the first row of single crochet on the wrong [as in incorrect for what the pattern wants] side and makes the single crochet rows after between the bobbles too visible.🤔 [test swatches: left is from the crochet foundation chain, right from a normal (but twisted) foundation chain]
i guess another row of single crochet would fix that problem but then i would have 2 rows of single crochet to begin with and im a bit worried about how that would affect the rest of the pattern, esp since i think the pattern wants me to slip stich around the panels when done to join them and mentions that "the top and bottom stiches should match up perfectly".
Wondering if anyone has some advice on this? Should i just do the extra sc row and ignore/tuck in the foundation chain when i go to join? Or should i just stick to a typical foundation chain?
[Also if you're wondering how I've been stuck on this simple pattern for days with no actual progress, aside frok the foundation chain problem, it's also because I'm using a different yarn for the project that's chunkier and fuzzier. And some how, some way, no matter how careful i am, i keep LOSING stitches in the sea of white/cream fuzzy yarn. and yes it's driving me entirely insane about it.]

Anyone have some crochet suggestions?
My brother is having a baby in August. My mom made some crochet granny squares before she died (in 2010) and I saved one to incorporate into something for my niece.
What can I make that uses this single granny square? I was thinking some sort of lovey (I’m already knitting her a blanket) so it isn’t something she grows out of. It’s made from Caron Simply Soft so it’s easy to get a contrasting color in the same yarn

i think i’m going to learn to crochet. my summer software dev desk job is slowly driving me insane and i need to make something with my hands.
pros:
the satisfaction of crafting
a mindless activity for my hands
self-sufficiently fueling my plushie addiction
sharing projects with my friend who crochets
cons:
i am very impatient
might get expensive
irrational fear of failure
feel free to send advice to a newbie! 🧶

ooh you crochet?? Pls drop beginner tips/any helpful tutorials you used 😭 I have a whole crochet kit and yarn but I keep losing the motivation to start bc it’s so daunting 💔
hi!! okay so here's how i got into crochet:
i started off by making a little square of all the stitches, and found a tutorial like this one on youtube. personally, i kept the square just for reference, but you can always unravel it once you're sure you've got the hang of the stitches
i wouldn't start off with a big project at first. when i started, my beginner kit had small amounts of yarn in many different colours, so i made small pouches and such for coins / lip balm and that kind of thing. like you said, it's pretty daunting to start off, and you wouldn't want to end up with an unfinished project that you lost motivation for!
i suggest knowing what kind of yarn you need to use. for many clothing items, use yarn with high cotton content bc it's more comfortable! wool is good too if you want it to keep you warm :D usually, if you're making fluffy amigurumi plushies, you'll use a fluffy yarn
also, the size of the hook will change the tightness of your stitches, the size, and how it ends up looking! typically yarn will have a suggested hook size, and you can find a chart to convert the "knitting tension" thingy to crochet hook size (the store i got my yarn from had one) but after a while i kind of just wing it
you can also adjust the hook size up or down half a size without much consequence if you want to (just makes your work look the way you want it to; looser or tighter respectively)
for amigurumi i have this trick for changing yarn colours smoothly, and for turning stitches i have this trick
for channels that i think are good, i have mahumcrochets, emmapcrochet, kirrilalia, and crafter_frog
and as a final tip, here is the adhd tip i saw online, and although i don't have adhd i can second it. don't try to do a huge project with granny squares unless you're certain you will make 100 of them 😭 i have never made a granny square in my 9 months of crocheting and it has never set me back!

Crochet Advice/Help Needed!
Question for my crochet followers (or anyone else that can help!) - I'm using a UK pattern and have come across the stitch trtr (triple treble). The UK tutorials on YouTube all say to yarn over 3 times but I've also found American tutorials using the same crochet term that says to yarn over 4 times??
Are these two different stitches? I can't seem to find a UK/US conversion chart that includes the term trtr?!

hello! I'm loving your ghosts amigurumi! I'm trying to make Captain based on your pattern and just wondering if you had any tips or notes on where to attach the limbs, eyes and hair from?
Also wondering if you have an instagram account so when I'm finished the product I can tag you as the designer? I'll still tag your tumblr as best I can!
Aw, there's going be another little Captain in the world, yay! I'm mooseidiot over on insta, I can't wait to meet him!
Legs: flatten the end (so you're sewing a horizontal, straight line, not a circle). I usually attach the legs at around row 4 or 5 - pin them until he can sit up by himself. How far apart depends on how saucy he's feeling (my Cap was 4 stitches apart.
Arms: annoying. Do them after the legs and pin until they look right (maybe 6 stiches apart?). You can flatten the top too, but sew it vertically.
Eyes: 7 stitches up from the neck usually looks like it's half way up the face. 6 or 7 stitches between them.
Hair: depends on how high a hairline you feel like. 4-5 stitches above the eyes for Cap and Havers.
All this is based on me squinting and eyeballing, so please don't take it as hard and fast rules!
I get the impression that you're new to tumbr and I worry that you're going to get blocked by people because you look like a bot at the moment. I've linked to a fabulous welcome guide to help 😀

Hey guys need some opinions on my Moon hat.
I made the body and floof band but now I'm conflicted with the stars.
Let's start with the white. Its a bit thin and no matter the hook size it just doesn't feel right. Nor is it Canon. However I love how it matches. Which isn't like me as I hate matching lol.
Where as the yellow is canonical, has a nice size, but doesn't match.
I'm really torn.

3 Jacked Up On A Hack Crochet Tips
Crochet Tips Behind the scenes crochet tips that happen without you realizing it. Mini swatches of problem solutions. The power of a swatch may be much better than the Star Wars force! I’m just saying, you don’t need a black mask and dusty robes to get the hook to speak to you. You can always swatch! I know, some of you are thinking, swatches are for sissies! Oh crap, I’m saying the quiet part,…

If there’s anyone in the Venn diagram of crocheter and Super Mario RPG fan, i will pay actual cash money to someone who can provide me with a crochet pattern for a Mallow amigurumi
I’ve had good experience with Fiverr for stuff like cross-stitch patterns, artwork, and guitar tabs, but after three failed attempts in a row to get a crochet pattern from three separate sellers, I’m kind of giving up on that particular avenue.
anyone here make crochet patterns and willing to make me one for Mallow? Name your price, I’m delighted to pay you for your work through whatever venue you choose
also welcome would be people who can recommend reliable folks who take crochet pattern commissions!

advice for blocking acrylic?
I know steam blocking is great, but I know most folks use an iron for that as well, and I don’t have access to one. Is there any other way to successfully block acrylic crochet?

Hello Hello friends!
I've been poking around a few patterns and such but I was wondering if anyone has a reliable estimate for about how much yarn I'd need for a worsted weight c2c throw (about 50x60in or 130x150cm))?
I've seen a few calculators online but unfortunately I haven't any of the yarn I want to work with (waiting to buy my yarn for when I know how much I'll need!)
Thank you for any/all advice <3
