Great Potential: Jaime Rosales in TWP

Jaime made an impatient noise. "I'm not self-sacrificing, Tina," he said. "That's Diego, not me. I wanted our family out of trouble." - Lord of Shadows

I know everyone might not feel like this, and I haven't in the past, but I'm actually really excited to see more of Jaime. I absolutely don't want him to be in a love triangle with Dru and Ash (romantically, I don't want him to go anywhere near Dru), but I do want to see more of who he actually is, what makes him tick.

We've seen a lot of Shadowhunters who are very conscious of their very important duty, they all seem to be incredibly self-sacrificing. I think it would be interesting to see a character that doesn't really have that quality, or at least isn't consumed by it. Not that I think Jaime would be a bad person or wouldn't protect people, I just think it will be interesting to see what exactly does motivate him the most. In one of his flower cards we see that he's called The Strategist. I'm ready to see what kind of strategist he will be. Ruthless like Julian Blackthorn or something else? He also has two other flower cards that say Changeable Moods and his latest one reading Reconciliation. I think Jaime could prove to be very unpredictable but also have a deep need to make something from his past right which could make for a very interesting character.

I also just want to see more important characters that aren't from the US and don't belong to the main families: Herondales, Lightwoods, Blackthorns, Carstairs, Fairchilds, etc. Having Jaime as an important character could give us a closer look at the Rosales family and Mexico City Institute and I would absolutely die for both of those things, honestly. From the little we've gathered from Cristina, the Mexico City Institute just seems like such an interesting place that would provide a nice contrast from the other Institutes we've seen in previous books.

What pains me about Jaime is that I would get mad about how the "made in Mexico" tattoo is kinda tacky and also it feels like an over the top emphasis on him being a foreigner character if it weren't because:

That fucking tattoo is a very Mexican thing to do 😭

Diego isn't like that and we have plenty of characters from different places so he's hardly being singled out.

What we know of Jaime Rosales so far

He’s seventeen as of 2012 in TDA

He has an older brother Diego who most likely will become the next inquisitor

his favorite weapon is poison

According to Cristina in Lady midnight he hates studying and homework

he’s the more warrior like and fierce brother

he has a noticeable accent compared to Diego and Cristina

His most striking feature is his large brown eyes that are said to be sparkly with wicked long lashes.

There’s a strong possibility he has attended the Shadowhunter academy given in lady midnight that he was set to go to Idris or in QOAAD he asks Dru if she will attend the academy.

He’s noted to be fidgety sometimes

He’s known to disappear for a long period of times. (What’s this guy upto?)

He and Cristina would often set up targets in the institute garden to practice knife throwing skills which often scared visitors.

Interestingly he was set up to be the older brother but Cassie somehow scraped that idea and made him the younger sibling

he has a tattoo that reads la sangre sin fuego hierve. ‘’blood boils without fire" which signifies his passion and loyalty to his family

He’s set to be a main character in the wicked powers.

He’s mischievous, often likes to play devil’s advocate in games, is troublesome and often has Diego pick up his mess.

From the latest update in SOBH he’s currently lost in Faerie. Most details about his disappearance is unknown.

Cristina says he has the devil’s luck (possible foreshadowing of his Anti Hero arc 👀) imagine the angst, the betrayal, the build up, the plot and all the possibilities!!!!!!!! @cassandraclare you better do Justice to his character and storyline. He has the POTENTIAL‼️

Yet another emergency meeting at the Lightwood-Bane residence ensued after Mark's message, which is why this time, aside from the usual gang, Cristina and Mark were also present. Both Cristina and Magnus seemed paler from the shock and stress of what the situation implied. Mark went into depth with the details for Jace, Clary, Isabelle and Simon who weren't up to date with the news yet, explaining how Kieran had dared to go into the Mortal world to warn them that the Seelie Court knights had been killing the Unseelie faeries who had been protecting the Idris border so the Cohort could not leave. "So does this mean we're going to hae to deal with the Cohort again?" Clary questioned, her green eyes concerned. "The better question is, does this mean the Seelie Court has alligned itself with the Cohort?" Simon said, swallowing his anxious thoughts. "It appears so, but don't they hate Downworlders?" Isabelle responded, feeling quite confused. "They do, but if it were up to people like Manuel, he would side with the Seelie Court and the Princes of Hell any day to save his own skin." Jace pointed out, and Alec nodded at his parabatai. "That was exactly what I was thinking. It seems like too big of a coincidende with my documents getting stolen and then this happening so shortly after it. Clearly the thief is an ally of the Seelie Court." Cristina and Mark looked at each other for a long time, clearly knowing something the weren't sure how to tell. "What aren't you telling us?" Alec asked, and Mark took a deep breath. "About two days ago, we spoke to Elliot," Cristina replied and almost everyone's brows shot up, wondering what on earth Elliot of all people could have said that was actually useful. "Apparantly, Lily was acting strange the night before the documents were stolen, and she was absent for hours from the Hotel on the night the Clave documents got stolen." Isabelle and Simon's jaws dropped in unison whilst Clary who just took a sip of water did a spittake. Alec shook his head in disbelief, "Lily? On the side of the Cohort?" Magnus took a long minute of thinking, and then said, "We should talk to Lily, just to be sure. If she is involved, then I bet someone manipulated Lily into doing it. She might be the leader of the vampires, but I remember her with Camille as well as Raphael. She is not immune to manipulation or being soft to unexpected people." Alec took a long, deep breath before he reached for his phone and dialled Lily's number.

Inside of Dimmet Tarn, panic was escalating. Tavi was currently sitting with Dru in her bedroom, both of them attended by Thais as Tavi took in the fact her entire family had been massacred. Downstairs, Tessa was racing through a couple of books she had with her from the Spiral Labyrinth, trying to investigate how Livvy and Jeroen's spirits had been poisoned by their trip to Idris. She was betting it was her father's doing, or rather the demon who had replaced her father. After having to be the ghost translator, Kit went back to Ty's side, trying not to be too annoyed with the fact Anush followed right behind them. Laura, Zeynep and Tomas had taken to doing anything Jem asked them do whilst little Gwynneth had decided to be Mina's babysitter for the time being. Jem hadn't been too particularly enthusiastic about it, especially not after she had planted a faerie tree in their backyard without their permission or the incident with Madame Hawthorne, but Gwynneth was harmless and they were currently too busy with researching and strenghtening the wards knowing that Ash Morgenstern knew where they lived to be capable of entertaining the little girl and keeping her out of the drama. In the meantime, Jaime couldn't help but feel worried about Dru and the revelation Ash Morgenstern apparantly had a thing for her. Jaime had always felt confused about Dru, but he knew one thing and that was that she deserved better then a stalker clutching to her for just one normal conversation from years ago, that's for sure.

Show Me the Money

Well isn't this just grand...I loaded into the Marks household and was busy watching them chat up Howard Moore when I noticed their finances. How!!? How is this even possible!? I'm pretty sure you had tens of thousands in disposable simoleons when I last played your household! Geeze!

Oh...aaand apparently Maggie the cat and Dimitri HATE each other!? That is so sad!

I went straight to work cleaning out surplus inventory for cash and getting the kiddos to bed, it was the middle of the night after all! Just look at cute little Grace playing!

The neighborhood is as active as always. On the plus side, I'm glad to see Shayne and Cristina are doing well! I think these two could make a good pairing.

I found out where all the money has gone...into vehicles! I just couldn't take away Sheree's "beast" though! Not for now at any rate, we'll have to see if they are able to cover bills and babysitting fees throughout the week before I decide if it stays for good.

Everyone is home for the evening. Candice is all tucked in, Grace played into the night again and Maggie made sure she had the highest position in the house...typical cat!

Rereading Lord of Shadows and I’m genuinely confused about why we’re supposed to like Perfect Diego and Jaime after all is said and done? Because all I’m seeing is how Diego is a two timer (that bs Jaime was saying about Zara watching his mail is moot because Diego had all the time in the world to tell Cristina the truth between the end of Lady Midnight and beginning of Lord of Shadows without Zara’s interference) and how Jaime is creeping on an underage girl (Dru actually makes note of the age difference as well as the fact that guys stare at her chest and how this is kind of strange)???
