The biggest thing I've learned in my 12 years of learning to cook is that most things can be improved by either adding heavy cream or chicken broth
#to elaborate#chicken broth ive found works for a lot of soup and casserole bases. i use it personally in a cheesy sausage and potatoe casserole#it adds body to the cheese sauce base#and heavy cream i sometimes like to add in small amounts when a recipe already calls for milk#so like boxed mac n cheese gets some heavy cream and stuff like that#me talking

This is extremely midwestern American of me to say but casseroles are good actually. They're cheap, they're easy, and they're filling and you can make some really great ones if you aren't afraid of seasonings. I know lower middle class white casserole recipes have ruined the idea for a lot of people but I promise you that they can actually be really good.
