i feel like the way mary is portrayed in the books is so interesting because neil clearly doesn’t really realize or want to acknowledge that a lot of the things she did to him were pretty shitty but it’s very clear to the readers anyway. like he always mentions some fucked up thing she did to him so nonchalantly and casually which I guess just goes to show how crappy his life was all around for him to still consider her a good mom

7x12: Three Billboards

I want to talk about Lucy's hair — but this isn’t really about hairstyles. It’s about which cultural elements our fandom chooses to notice, celebrate, and discuss.

When Luna Grey wore a bonnet last season, it sparked excitement. As it should have! It was a meaningful cultural moment that deserved recognition and appreciation.

Yet in this episode, Lucy wore chopsticks in a half-up bun — the first nod to her heritage all season — and as far as I can tell, it went completely unnoticed. Instead, fans zeroed in on her heatless curls, praising that generic styling choice.

This contrast feels like part of a larger pattern: selective recognition of whose culture matters.

What’s particularly telling are the comments about her curls: “She’s relatable.” “She’s so me.” “She really is just a girl.”

Sure, women everywhere use heatless curls. But what’s happening here is deeper — fans are gravitating toward and celebrating the universal aspects of Lucy’s character while overlooking what makes her unique. What makes her Lucy. Culture is one large part of that.

Lucy Chen is anything but generic. She’s not the “every girl.” And when she gets flattened into that role, we lose the complexity and specificity that make her who she is.

This pattern reveals something important about how we engage with culture as viewers. We're comfortable recognizing and celebrating some cultural elements while others go unnoticed, ignored or underappreciated. Sometimes, this happens through unconscious bias. And I think we — collectively, as a fandom — need to challenge that.

I’d love to see both the show and the fandom give Lucy’s identity the same thoughtful attention we extend to other characters. Her heritage shouldn’t be reduced to occasional cultural “crumbs” or, in the case of the rice cooker at Tim’s house (but not at hers), outsourced to someone else’s space.

The chopsticks in her hair might seem trivial in isolation, but in a Lucy Chen landscape where her heritage is nearly nonexistent, even the small things are hugely significant. These crumbs deserve to be seen, discussed, and celebrated — with the same enthusiasm we give to other crumbs and to the more “universal” aspects of her character.

If we can clock heatless curls in a second — in a dark bedroom, no less — we can clock the chopsticks too.

Especially when they’re front and center in promo photos we hyperanalyze for days.

besides being a bit unmotivated and scared to work on 'canis corpus', it's been over a month of me trying to get my favorite kind of apple and them never having it and i'm at my limit.

I don't really have a question about mattresses, just wanted to join in. Had a handmedown full mattress for years, was satisfied with it cuz I knew nothing else. My sibling convinced me to get a new Queen Sized with 3 reasons: 1: More room for stuffies and pillows (I have so many. I am a slut for comfortable things) 2: More room for nap buddies (I have 3 cats and 2 dogs, and my sibling sleeps in my bed during the day while I work to avoid the loud common area) 3: My full sized bed was dying. Dents and divets. ... I love my new mattress. It's nice. I dunno the modifications nor the things it does, but its nice to be able to sit in a bed and not immediately be thrown back or fall. I can properly sit on my bed without worry of not getting back up again.

I cannot even express how bad my sleep got when I was in training at the mattress store. I started becoming hyper aware of the deep hold I was sleeping in and every night I slept worse waiting with more and more anticipation for the day my employee discount could kick in and save me from my depressed full.

First night in the new bed was exquisite.
