The Tide is one way of sensing the healing energy of the inherent healing process. When the healing energy ascends and descends in the central energy channel, that’s the Tide. When I work with clients, I need to be still in both mind and body, with attention to sensations in my hands lightly touching their feet or cranium, to sense the Tide. The Tide is such a deep internal phenomenon, the motion affects every cell in the body, even moving the bones. Ever so slightly! When the Tide ascends to the cranium, the cranial bones widen and the feet rotate externally. Ever so slightly! When the Tide descends, the cranial bones narrow and the feet rotate internally, ever so slightly. It is a subtle motion found by sensing slight changes in pressure in your hands. Then staying with it, noticing it moves rhythmically. In Biodynamic Meditation, I’m inviting you to notice sensations in your central energy channel. You may feel motion ascending and descending anywhere in the channel. You may also tune into your cranium to sense it widening and narrowing. When I sense this, it’s on the sides of my head, right above my ears. I’ve taken a lot of craniosacral therapy classes and can attest that by noon on the first day, every beginning student can sense another’s Tide with their hands. Even if they wonder if they’re imagining it! That means they’re on the way, getting close! If you are wanting to sense your Tide and haven’t sensed its rhythm moving in your central energy channel yet, you might try tuning in deeply to sensations of your cranium widening and narrowing. My Biodynamic Meditation today had moments of deeper stillness. I sensed the healing energy settling in my ethmoid bone, a small cranial bone with dural membrane attached. It’s yet another observation of my cranium being subtly reshaped by the inherent healing process, most likely from the challenges of my birth. #biodynamicmeditation #craniosacralbiodynamics #craniosacraltherapy #cranialsacral #cranio #biodynamiccraniosacraltherapy #tide #centralenergychannel #subtlemotion #healingenergy #inherenthealingprocess #stillness #sensations #rhythm #cranialbones #widening #narrowing (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn4kZwYuAFU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Swedish Massage Therapy: The Gentle Way to Relax and Rejuvenate
Tumblr media
Applying pressure and movement to the body’s soft tissues characterizes massage therapy, a holistic health care practice. Massage therapy has become popular around the world, and more and more people prefer this therapy for reducing pain, improving circulation, and promoting relaxation. You can find many massage techniques, like deep tissue massage and CranialSacral therapy, and each offers an abundance of health benefits. However, this blog post will explore Swedish massage therapy involving gentle, flowing strokes for relaxation. Keep reading to learn more about Swedish massage therapy!
Understanding Swedish Massage Therapy
Swedish massage is one of the most effective therapeutic massages that improves circulation, reduces pain, and promotes relaxation. This therapy involves effleurage (a long gliding stroke), kneading, and tapping. Studies have reported its effectiveness in reducing stress, enhancing sleep, and increasing energy levels.
Per Henrik Ling was a Swedish physical education instructor who developed Swedish massage in the 1800s. He believed that massage is the best therapy to live a quality life with good health. Therefore, he developed this massage technique that is still used today worldwide.
The ultimate goal of the therapy is to reduce muscle pain and stiffness while escalating the blood flow to the heart. This is extreme therapeutic massage therapy because it can meet down muscle toxins, increase blood oxygen levels, and make the body flexible enough.
How is Swedish Massage Different from Other Massage Techniques?
Swedish massage involves light to moderate pressure; thus, is called gentle massage therapy for relaxation. You can find other relaxation massages, like aromatherapy massage, hot stone massage, Thai massage, etc., and Swedish massage is often compared to them. However, Swedish massage is different from them for some reasons.
For example, heated stones are used in the hot stone technique to ensure relaxation, while aromatherapy massage creates a relaxing environment using essential oils. However, these techniques are not included in Swedish massage therapy. Instead, a massage therapist gently applies pressure to the body with soft hand movement, relaxing the muscles and improving circulation.
Benefits of Swedish Massage Therapy
Swedish massage therapy offers many benefits, including:
Reducing stress and anxiety. This massage therapy involves all proven techniques vital in mitigating stress and anxiety. Basically, the therapist focuses on stimulating the endorphins’ release, which boosts the mood.
Improving sleep patterns. This massage technique can bring improvement to your sleep patterns and overall quality. The reason is that it can positively affect the muscle and reduce pain. Ultimately, your sleep quality is promoted.
Increasing circulation. As numerous studies found, this therapy has the potential to increase the circulation system. This is because it stimulates the flow of blood and lymph fluid throughout the body.
Reducing pain. This massage technique can relax your muscles by bringing down muscular inflammation and pain.
Improving mobility. This massage therapy can be effective in enhancing your range of motion because it can help you stretch your muscles. As a result of this massage, you can have increased flexibility in the body.
People Who Can Benefit from Swedish Massage
Numerous studies have shown the safety and effectiveness of Swedish massage therapy for people of all ages. However, studies have also shown that Swedish massage can be more beneficial for some people than others. These include:
Swedish massage can be effective for those living with mental health problems like anxiety or stress because it can mitigate these problems and improve mood and overall health.
Swedish massage can benefit those who are experiencing trouble while sleeping by improving their sleep quality and keeping them more energetic all day. This therapy can also enhance cerebral function.
Swedish massage can be beneficial for those who are experiencing muscle pain because it has the strong potential to loosen tight muscles and improve mobility. Ultimately, you can enjoy an improved, pain-free life.
Swedish massage can be effective for those who are seeking a way or therapy to relax, as it can de-stress them by reducing muscle tension and improving the circulation system.
Swedish massage can be a great therapy to spend a quality life with good health. If you are looking for a reliable medical massage service center in Houston, Esoteric Massage Center is the best choice for receiving Swedish massage therapy. Contact us today to book an appointment!

Throwback Thursday- old style of illustrating The occipital bone, and what makes it important? First off, it's a cranial bone protecting your brain. So there's that. Secondly, that great hole allows your brain to become a spinal cord or a spinal cord to become the brain, and therefore connect all the pieces of your body, sending and receiving information all day and all night. That little cross hairs on the inside are the attachments of the reciprocal tension membrane, falls and tentorium, that then fascially transfer through the bone to become the nuchal ligament. I talk more about that in the first course. The occipital bone also mirrors the sacrum as the top pole of the spine to the bottom. #asabovesobelow #cranialbones #occipitalbone #occiput #occipitalneuralgia #cranialsacraltherapy #cranialbonesmove #cranialnerves #cranials #cranialsacral #cranial #craniosacral #craniosacraltherapy #cranium #cranialanatomy #adaptablepolarity #anatomystudy #humananatomy #knowthyself https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp2zD2arRch/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

1/21/20: work ahead
We’ve started the delayed longer run of CranialSacral sessions that should go six more weeks. I think Cindy comes out of those with extra energy, but at times it plays out reinforcing her convictions that she can walk, and the ardor with which she’ll press her case. With weekly sessions for a longer time we’ll see what we see.
She’s slated for a third round of botox injections in her right leg the middle of February. With some targeting help from chiropractor, aiming to get up toward the hip a little higher. Hoping that we can find better ways to take advantage of the possible muscle loosening in PT this time .
I imagine that by the beginning of April we’ll have a better sense of what kind of cognitive and physical progress she can make. Of course, predicting when she’ll progress or regress has often been a foolish endeavor in the past.

New Anatomical Friends
Ahoy Somanauts!
Some of you may be wondering what exactly a Somanaut is . . . Well, it's a term one of our compatriots, Gil Hedley, coined, it means "explorers of the body." Gil - the original Somonaut - has amazing fascial dissection seminars available for free viewing online at gilhedley.com
Old Friend - New Appreciation - The Hyoid Release
In the spirit of somanautics I wanted to share something I've been exploring and it's a little bit new to me. Recently, I've been re-writing the Cranial I manual (class coming up this weekend!), which I first wrote about 7 years ago! It's been an opportunity to reflect on how my relationship with the techniques has changed over that period of time - it has! It's one of the beautiful things about our work, it gets to keep evolving.
Tumblr media
Recently, I've come to a much deeper appreciation of the hyoid release, which we cover in Cranialsacral I, and through it deepened my understanding of the anterior cervical (neck) compartment. Sometimes we need a technique to give us both permission and orientation to work with and understand a part of the body. For me, with the anterior neck, the hyoid release was that introduction.
Over the years, I've added to my understanding of this release by incorporating myofascial techniques, into my work with the anterior neck. I've complemented this with continuing to explore the anatomy of the area. Add all that together and then put it in service of treating patients and paying close attention to the results - I've learned it's an important area and really often overlooked in treatment. I've overlooked it myself so many times. Any case of neck pain that isn't resolving with other approaches would be a cue to explore working this area. Also, any whiplash case will need some attention paid to the anterior neck.
I've had multiple patients over the past 6 weeks that are requiring quite specific work in the anterior neck region. It has been a real opportunity for me to apply myself more specifically to this area. I've had several interesting cases; a unique presentation of TMJ with sudden and severe onset (not typical) and a constricting feeling from within the throat, an atypical sleep apnea case and a person with a head fall that resulted in significant compression anteriorly. Each of them has required me to refine my understanding of this area and explore both the physical and energetic aspects of working here.
New Friends! AKA, anatomy dork out session
Last year during our first Myofascial Release III seminar, focusing on the neck and shoulder, I was studying an anatomy slide and came across a couple muscles I don't ever remember meeting - longus capitis (head) and longus coli (neck).
These are deep anterior neck muscles, often termed pre-vertebral muscles. They attach onto the anterior surfaces of the transverse process of the cervical vertebrae. Let's picture that - it's really deep into the neck, if you feel your transverse processes then imagine the space in front of them and a little towards the center, that's where these muscles are. They are commonly injured in whiplash type injuries and hardly ever treated. The good news is that between the myofascial techniques and the hyoid release combined with a little gentle traction we can have a good effect on these deep muscles.
Tumblr media
The longus capitis is especially interesting because it reaches from the anterior transverse processes to the basilar surface of the occiput. The basilar surface of the occiput is really close to the sphenobasilar joint, which is essential to understanding and working with the cranialsacral system. Hypertonicity in this muscle can start to pull the occiput forward on the atlas and increase extension at the top of the neck. This can cause a myriad of problems for people as it will impede the free motion of both the sphenobasilar and atlantooccipital joints. In addition, the vertebral artery flows near here and if this area is compressed it can restrict blood flow. This can contribute to headaches, fatigue, and other cognitive problems.
The longus coli attaches along the front of the spine from C5 - T3. How in the world can you release something on the anterior surface of T3 you might be asking! That's a really weird place to think about. Imagine all the structures in front of T3, the upper lobes of the lung, the fascia wrapping the lungs, the heart and pericardium, just behind all that is this new muscle friend! With gentle myofascial type work, we can access these insertions and effect the entire milleu. Cool!
I look forward to crossing paths with you all in some way soon! If you have any questions about upcoming courses please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Os Sacrum There’s many languages to discuss the body. Some can only hear “science” and mechanisms, others speak “energy” while others may only discern only “woo woo.” The sacrum, a triangular bone deemed sacred by our Latin anatomist ancestors due to its shape, has dural attachments to about the second sacral segment. In chi gong, this is a “chi gate.” In #cranialsacraltherapy, it is a cerebrospinal fluid pump. In mechanical terms, the sacrum and the pelvic floor are a major diaphragm of the body. #sacrum #ossacrum #pelvis #pelvicfloor #chigate #cranialsacral #cranio #craniosacral #craniosacraltherapy #sacralalignment #dura #duramater #bodymechanics #humanarchitecture #energeticanatomy #adaptablepolarity https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnzn0pWvDDK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
