i still can’t believe the idea that the CoN as a front to “pROtEcT VELaRis” is an acceptable idea both in world and to the fandom at large. like. imagine you’re at the faerie equivalent of a UN meeting and you don’t trust one of the countries because they have a history of serious human rights violations. and the leaders of said country are like. “Yeah. We DO allow tons of human rights violations in our territory, but only in one area. we actually have a secret city where none of that happens, and the reason we encourage those human rights violations is so our evil reputation can PROTECT the good city” and your reaction is “oh word. You were actually the GOOD GUYS all along, sorry I wasn’t familiar with your game.” instead of like idk being horrified that some citizens are subjugated and treated as second class in order to benefit the others.

“elain won’t stay in the night court or end up with azriel because she looks bad in black”
okay! so if we’re going by that logic, let’s take a look at what she does look good in. in the chapter following the court of nightmares visit, after returning to velaris, nesta says this about elain:
“Gone was the ill-suited black dress from the ball, replaced by a gown of amethyst velvet, her hair half-up and curling down to her waist. She glowed with good health.”
interesting that once she is back in velaris and away from the court of nightmares, she is described as looking healthy. interesting that she glows in an amethyst gown, considering her association with pink and azriels association with blue. interesting that dusk is typically pink, blue, and purple.

To everyone to kept recommending me These Violent Delights by Micha Nemerever bc it’s ‘hehe queers comitting crimes’ I’m gonna get you. (Mostly applies to the book talk ppl but some on here as well.) This is not the foxhole court or summer sons or the raven cycle. This is fucked up. These are two CHILDREN in a highly codependent (I know we love to use that word but it’s not a cute lil adjective to describe a friendship) and ABUSIVE relationship. I am at 33% and you guys cannot be doing this. Either you knowingly described it like that for shits and giggles or I have genuine concerns on what grade level you last graduated. (Coming from someone who dropped out junior year and got her GED at 20) do not get me wrong. This book is beautiful. It is gut wrenching and sad and an interesting look at truly codependent relationships. (We keep forgetting that codependency, by definition, is abuse) I am not dogging on this novel. I highly recommend it!! And I’m only 33% into it. But this is not ‘you are nothing.’ ‘You’ve always said you want nothing.’ This is so much more upsetting and triggering than aftg or summer sons. If anyone needs trigger warnings lmk and I’ll make a list. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. I’m gonna fuckin get u booktok girlies. Andrew Minyard and Jean Moreau would be so disappointed in you, genuinely.

HOTD SPOILERS!!!
I often think about the adult foxes life, especially the mundane things they do. Does Nicky watch Heartbreak High? Does Allison love Renee Rapp (and Renee Walker)? Does Kevin read sports romance?
I think about Aaron and Andrew, bonding over Game of Thrones (if you could call arguing about the characters that) and waiting every week for a new episode of House of the Dragon. I think about Neil shit talking the show (he thinks the directors are obsessed with r*pe scenes and can you really blame him?) only for him to stop in his tracks when Andrew is watching it in their living room because damn, they are riding freaking dragons.
("They look alike" "They're uncle and niece" "Oh, they are holding hands so I thought they were a couple" "They are." "What the fuck are you watching!?") (someone please get the reference)
I think about Aaron watching the season 1 finale, feeling sad because of Lucerys but also because he knows he's gonna hardly hear from his brother until season 2 drops. I think about him watching Helaena choose between her twins and knowing that his mother would have saved him. Him watching two twins at the opposite sides of a war fight each other, one killing the other and then himself. Aaron looking at his phone for hours because this time, Andrew didn't text him.
"Andrew would do it," he thinks "he would kill me if I wanted to hurt Neil but then he would punish himself."
And Aaron doesn't like Neil, he is annoying, he brings trouble everywhere he goes and he has a smart mouth. He doesn't like him, period. But he would never try to hurt him. Not when this is the happiest he has seen his brother. Not when he is the reason there was supposed to be a text waiting for him.
"What happened?"
Suddenly Andrew's voice is talking in his ear.
"What?"
"You don't like talking on the phone and yet you called me so, what happened?"
"I called you?"
A beat.
"Are you drunk? Where is Katelyn?"
"What!? No, no I'm not drunk. She is at work- why didn't you text me?"
The words come out before he even has a chance to think.
"The new episode came out, you always text me and now you didn't, why?"
"We are on our way to the airport, we had an away game. I haven't watched it yet. I'll text you when I do."
"Oh, alright then."
And Andrew is a bit confused by this interaction until he actually watches the episode. The dragons are cool, the actors amazing and he recognizes amazing fashion choices when he sees them, but truth is he doesn't really like how the show handles some topics. He is never gonna say it out loud though. He is Andrew, he does what he wants. He's watching the show because he wants to, no one is making him do it.
But, of course, Neil notices. He sees how the blonde doesn't look directly at an assault scene, how he mutes the TV during the little boy's murder because the noises are too real, how he shakes his head at Helaena's (if that's her name) reaction, how he reaches out his hand for Neil to hold, how he spends the rest of the day in silence. Most importantly he notices how, at the end of the day, when they are in bed, in each other's arms, Andrew takes a deep breath and picks up his phone to text his brother. Aaron immediately responds.
This is my first time posting something and English is not my first language so please be kind. I saw the new HOTD episode and I couldn't help but think about the Minyard twins, I had to get this idea out of my head. I think the show would be a little triggering for Andrew but that he would overall enjoy it, I don't think he would pass up an opportunity to "bond" with Aaron but I also don't think he would do anything he doesn't want to do. Anyway, these characters don't belong to me so these are not their canon personalities!

ad infinitum
A teenage girl enters her father’s office, dreading the news she was raised her whole life to anticipate. She’s being married off to some influential noble. Her father will make new connections through her marriage. Her mother’s in charge of the wedding, tradition states. It’s a lovely cycle.
Her dress is quite pretty. Night Court black in silk, silver gems sewn onto the bodice and train of her veil, as well as the matching gloves. They’re what she imagines stars look like. Closest she’ll ever get to seeing them.
Her father-in-law makes a crude joke, his son will rip her stars away tonight. She wants to run. She doesn’t. Remembers what happens to girls who run, who disobey. There are no High Lords in her bloodline.
The wedding’s over. She has a new home. Night’s come. Her mother said to think happy thoughts. It’s over. He wasn’t all that rough, she supposes. It could’ve been worse. She prays to the Mother that once was enough. It wasn’t. A second night. Then a third, then a fourth, then a fifth, then a sixth, a seventh, an eighth. Nothing.
Her husband’s frustrated. He’s taken a mistress. The whole household knows. She says nothing.
A decade passes. The mistress has two children. She remains childless. Her bed remains empty. She’s glad for it.
Two decades. The mistress is dead. Her husband killed her in a fit of rage. She never sees those two children again either.
Her husband starts visiting her again. It hurts. She thinks happy thoughts. She’s pregnant, hopes it’s a boy. Women can’t inherit.
Ten months. An uneventful birth. It’s a girl.
Three decades pass. She has a son now. She’s planning a wedding. Her daughter’s lucky, she thinks. Her future son-in-law is only 387. Not all that old. She’ll attend a wedding soon enough, help her daughter plan it.
It’s a lovely cycle.

A Court of Dark Spring
Tamlin x Lucien Vanserra
Summary-
She had eyes like starlight and a grin that could outshine the moon, "We'll rule the world."
"What if we fail?"
"Then we'll burn it all down."
In hindsight maybe it could only have ever ended like this. Making a man who was never made to rule, High lord. This was all inevitable.
With his Court in ruins and everyone gone, Tamlin lives amongst the broken pieces of his Court and has no intentions of changing that. Lucien, however, will not stand to leave his oldest friend alone.
When Lucien takes Tamlin back to the human lands, they discover a darkness coming for Prythian. If something does not stop it, it will completely rewrite the way Faeries and humans alike live as they know it.
