The County Hotel on the Promenade at the junction with Church Street.

It was originally called The County & Lane Ends Hotel and it stood next door to the Prince of Wales (baths & theatre), which later became The Palace theatre.

The entire block containing The County Hotel and The Palace were demolished in the 1960's to make way for a modern department store called Lewis's which stood until the 1993 before itself making way for a modern brick commercial building.

The modern building housed a wide range of businesses that came & went leaving large portions of the building empty.

The Prince of Wales Theatre and the Prince of Wales Baths before being demolished to make way for The Alhambra theatre in 1899 (later becoming The Palace Theatre in 1904 after getting into financial difficulties forcing them to sell to The Tower Company) and The County Hotel before both buildings being replaced by the then-modern Lewis's store in 1964.

Lewis's survived until 1993 before being replaced by the brick building we have today that has housed many commercial outlets including Woolworths, Kickers and Harry Ramsden's.
