welcome, strangers! it's about time i give this blog a real introduction!

as my info says - i'm Jay, & i really like Team Fortess 2.

i write primarily in Word 2010, in 11pt Euphemia, colored to #006666.

i don't have a DNI - i don't mind what you ship, how you identify, or what you believe, just please understand that all headcanons are unique to the individual & my thoughts on the game & its characters might conflict w/ yours, & that's okay!

the above being said, i am an adult, & TF2 is an M-Rated game. as such, i believe the writing i produce, & the characters my writing is based off of, are 'mature' subject matters.

my fics have been tagged accordingly, but please be aware that mature themes can & do appear in my content!

the main characters i've been writing w/ are:

Josiah, BLU's sniper, & Basil, RED's spy.

Josiah is 32 & expectedly Australian.

• BLU's sniper for two years

• he's very good at being by himself, & prefers it to the company of others; can become anxious in crowds

• has synesthesia, & often describes feelings as having colors or particular smells

• very likely to be autistic; has an acute awareness for the presence of others [cloaked spies included], & can 'hear' others due to a variation of hyperacusis [extreme sound sensitivity]

• has never met the RED sniper, & doesn't particularly care to

• does not have any pets, but finds wildlife fascinating; in that same vein, he appreciates music greatly but cannot play any instruments

• potentially asexual, but he admittedly doesn't give it much thought very often; panromantic

• isn't great at remembering to do laundry

• startles easy, & will almost always back down from being threatened, hoping the confrontation can be resolved another way

• can crack his knuckles simply by flexing his fingers hard enough

• has a brother he doesn't really talk about - not because they don't get along, but because Josiah finds him uninteresting, as he has a very 'normal' job & lifestyle compared to Josiah

Basil is 36 & proudly French.

• RED's spy for longer than he cares to admit

• left-handed by nature, but functionally ambidextrous

• does not speak in contractions - will always take the lengthiest possible form to articulate his words

• never apologizes, & instead turns phrases around, to redirect blame [i.e., instead of 'forgive me if you do not understand', it would be re-phrased as, 'it is expected for you not to understand', or something similar]

• unexpectedly social & eloquent with others, & enjoys get-togethers w/ intelligent, like-minded individuals

• sociopathic tendencies, which are often repressed in favor of making more pleasant 'first impressions' [this is to imply the actual, diagnosable, real-world condition of sociopathy - not a shorthand for 'sadistic bastard']

• is not scout's father [because both of my boys are at least 50% self-insert each, & i personally dislike the implication of any amount of me being associated w/ parenthood]

• handles pressure well, & can operate / perform to expectations regardless of any unplanned occurrences

• bi / pan-sexual & aromantic; believes Miss Pauling [my interpretation of the character: Jennifer Pauling] to be his platonic soulmate, & the feeling is reciprocated

• engaged in a very long & traumatic relationship w/ my BLU Spy OC, Julian [who does not deserve his own character introduction]

• part of a rather large family, but has not met most of his extended family / half-siblings

i believe the game only registers one singular killsound being active at a time...i considered if you could write a script that explicitly told it to, after a specific key / input, use a different sound, but i don't think this would work properly, & it would keep reverting back to w/e file you have listed as the main sound effect...i might play around w/ this though, see if i can get something to work, but i'm not super hopeful of its viability, unfortunately.

Do nightfolk have... lawyers?

yes! they're still people, of course, and they more or less live similarly structurally to humans (a lot of wild differences, but still). in the us, their lawyers are usually tommy-knockers (who also help the gilde family run the banks), but really, they could be fey, goblins, vampires, shifters, at one time there was a barghest (how? magic), another a beholder, etc etc. nightfolk aren't exactly the most strict when it comes to who can do what, so long as so-and-so can actually perform the job functions (and are certified, depending on the field).

nightfolk lawyers are kind of- cut-throat. the lawyering game is just as messy and convoluted as it is in a human context, worse actually, and there aren't very many to go 'round so they're very expensive. in most cases, any who can't afford them have to represent themselves, one won't be provided by the state except in very 'particular circumstances' (where it pertains to really old laws like, er, consider laws like 'the law of surprise' - stuff like that, weird laws, binding vow removal too (that entire process is a paaaaain in the ass)). it seems cruel and unusual, but nightfolk are taught throughout childhood all about the legalities of their society since it's still adapting to human expansion and industrialism, modernizing, balancing their own traditions, ways of life, in some ways protecting humans from them and the monsters and such that still very much lurk in the world and one world-ending cataclysm after another-- they have to know everything, they have to be prepared. whether they end up needing to use any of that information is irrelevant. anyway-

you could theoretically divorce a god and it be totally accepted legally by everyone involved, few questions asked. attitudes about wacky, surely mindboggling stuff, are by and large best summed up as a roll of the shoulders most of the time. they all hear wild shit all day, every day, so lawyers, judges, and all kinds of legislative types have an easier time being objective and decisive, er, pragmatic (as well as being corrupt, but that's not what this post is about!).

as i think on it now, how one would become a lawyer is by apprenticeship. you work with a lawyer, they teach you everything, you learn, you take certification classes, the nightfolky bar exam lol, and there you go i guess. it takes a good long time, cos you need your mentor's approval and recommendations from several other supervisor types, character letters, and then you have to go through extensive background checks, take an oath, a binding vow to your firm as a condition of proper employment (and to the department of regulatory sorceries)-- and so on. it's an enormous pain in the ass to become a lawyer and that's why it's an undersaturated field.

(Genuinely glad that even Leona consults with Malleus when it comes to remembering things. They at least recognize that he's the most knowledgeable among them.)

Jamil then explains the details of Halloween that everyone in Twisted Wonderland knows about, but notes that he's never heard of Jack Skellington in that legend. Skully admits that it's understandable that they don't know, given that the legend is only known to a limited amount of areas. Sebek asks where,

Skully: "In my hometown."

Sebek: "That's completely limited!"

He then shares that everyone in his village loves and reveres Jack,

Skully: "Indeed! And of course I as well adore him. I LOVE both Halloween and Jack-sama, more than ANYTHING in world."

(HE ACTUALLY USES "AISHITE" OH MY GOD he's completely Jacksexual 😭)

He then agonizes that while people in his village love Jack, nobody outside seems to feel the same.

Skully: "... Haa, they really are stupid people. How aggravating."

Skully: "But ah! Did I truly meet Jack-sama in the flesh? Is this a dream? Ahh, if that's so, then please never wake me up..."

Azul: "Rather than a dream, this is very much a nightmare... Ugh, that skeleton really is moving."

Skully: "Might you please stop calling him a skeleton! I am begging everyone... to please call him Jack-sama."

Jack: "No, no. Just Jack is fine. Everyone in town calls me that."

Jack then asks where everyone came from, and Leona admits that they're from Twisted Wonderland.

Jack: "Hm. I've never heard of such a place."

Leona: "I knew it. This place really isn't in Twisted Wonderland!"

"WE'RE NOT IN TWISTED WONDERLAND?!"

Young prince Arthur exploring the castle bc his emotionally and mostly physically absent father doesn’t care what he does as long as he gets his studies done. He pretends he’s a brave knight with a small wooden sword in hand and ventures down in the belly of the castle and stumbles upon a cavern under the castle. It’s not long before Kilgharrah lands before him and laughs at the young child before him, a baby really. This is no Once and Future King. But…Arthur does not scream and run, he holds up his wooden sword, shaking with terror as he stares down the ferocious beast, full of courage. And Kilgharrah stares and stares and stares before sighing heavily and going, “Fine. I’ll adopt you. Stop looking at me like that.”

Anyways, Arthur grows up visiting Kilgharrah and hearing about prophecies and destiny. He watches Kilgharrah perform small bits of magic and grows up knowing the truth of what’s happened. By the time merlin arrives in Camelot, Arthur is pro-magic and anti-Uther but holy fuck is he the most arrogant prick of all time. Not only did he grow up a prince to be king, he grew up knowing he was to be a king of legend. Merlin bullies him relentlessly like in canon and everything happens as it did.

But Arthur visits Kilgharrah for advice of magical threats and leaves like right before Merlin visits him for advice. Kilgharrah never says anything bc he likes to watch them be idiots. Arthur and Merlin sneaking behind each other’s back to use/consult magic (users) to help solve their issues and never telling the other. But Arthur keeps failing. He goes to find a powerful enough Druid or Sorcerer to combat magic from a High Priestess and he can’t find anyone. However, as if by magic (ha ha ha), the threat is neutralized without Arthur’s interference. Baby boy is so confused.

This goes on for years and slowly breaks down his confidence as he thought that being the Once and Future King meant conquering all these threats and protecting his people yet…he can’t. He hasn’t properly neutralized a threat in a while, bc I mean sometimes it happens but the other times he’s knocked out for SOME FUCKING REASON. So he’s moping in his room and Merlin’s like “What’s wrong?” In a super soft voice when he sees Arthur’s kicked puppy look.

Arthur barely thinks about it before telling Merlin. He’s wanted to for years but he never wanted to drag Merlin into danger by getting him involved in treason bc while his father would be irate with him, Uther wouldn’t hesitate before chopping off Merlin’s head. But Merlin has always been there for Arthur, and rebuilt his confidence despite the other times where he’s humbling him. So Arthur tells him everything. And Merlin is silent. And quiet. And silent. And quiet. And silent. And quiet. And-

He starts cursing the dragon angrily and drags Arthur down through the castle to Kilgharrah’s cavern. The dragon is already there laughing his ass off. Arthur is confused on how Merlin knew where to go. Merlin is shouting curses up at the dragon. Kilgharrah just looks down at them as he laughs and is like, “Finally, the Once and Future King and Emrys have united.”

Arthur (grew up knowing he had someone out there who was “half of his soul” as Kilgharrah said which he took to mean his soulmate and has been fantasizing about meeting this mysterious and powerful Emrys and…other things… Well, until he met Merlin. Then the fantasies featured all three of them) is…staring at Merlin wide eyed and flustered and a little turned on at how the small human is shouting angrily at the big dragon as if the big dragon couldn’t just stomp the both of the small humans or roast them alive. Arthur’s fantasies merge Merlin and Emrys together and it’s back to just the two of them.

Merlin is grumpy bc he had to hide his magic from Arthur for YEARS only to find out that the clotpole was ON HIS FUCKING SIDE?????? AND THE DAMN LIZARD KNEW ABOUT IT????? Oh, Merlin wants a set of Dragon scale armor and Kilgharrah’s golden scales would suit him nicely, he thinks. He’ll skin the damn beast himself-
