Western Kentucky: 2023-24 Conference USA Men's Basketball Champions
Tumblr media
When being on top of the hill isn’t high enough, you sit on top of the conference.
WKU mens basketball defeated the University of Texas El-Paso Miners Saturday, 78-71, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2013.
Before the game, it was announced that WKU guard Dontaie Allen had been ruled out, having left the team’s win Friday with a knee injury.
However, even without Allen, the Hilltoppers started the first half the way they ended the second half in their previous game against MTSU: Hot.
Opening up the game with a 17-4 run, the Hilltoppers defense shined, grabbing seven turnovers in the first ten minutes. However, the game very quickly shifted gears.
Although the Miners started the game 0-10 from the field, they converted on nine of their next 11 attempts, bringing the game within just a single point with under five minutes to go.
A once ferocious WKU offense had seemingly gone ice cold. In the span of nine minutes, they were on the receiving end of both a 14-5 and 12-3 run. During these runs, the Hilltoppers shot a lowly 5-14 from the field.
However, with their backs against the wall, facing a one-point deficit with just three minutes to play, a familiar offensive presence took over. WKU ended the first half on a 9-3 run, securing a four-point lead heading into the break.
The first half MVP for the Hilltoppers was junior guard Don McHenry. McHenry’s 10 points, two rebounds, and one assist on 3-5 shooting from the field led both the explosive start and end for the WKU offense.
Yet, the success of the Hilltopper scoring attempts can be attributed to more than just an individual player. WKU’s interior strength and size led to 75% of their first half production coming inside the paint.
UTEP found their production coming from senior guard Zid Powell. Powell tallied 10 points on 3-6 from the field, and 2-3 from beyond the arch. Eight of the guard’s 10 points came during an 80-second span, where Powell scored on three consecutive possessions for the Miners.
Heading into the half, the Hilltoppers squeaked out a 40-36 lead.
Team First Half Statistics:
WKU: 17-31 FG, 2-9 3FG, 4-4 FT | 17 Rebounds: 14 Defensive, three Offensive.
UTEP: 11-28 FG, 5-12 3FG, 9-12 FT | 16 Rebounds: 11 Defensive, five Offensive.
WKU could not bring their normal high tempo at the start of the second half. Opening up 1-8 from the field, with most of the misses coming off of good looks, the Miners took comfort in the speed of play, capitalizing with a 15-4 run to start the half.
In what was a rollercoaster of a game, the ride did not stop. Following UTEP’s run, they’d go on a five-minute scoring drought, giving the Hilltoppers a seven-point lead, on a 16-2 run for themselves.
The drive would not stop. With just under five minutes to play, WKU advanced their lead to 10, with help from a 20-4 run.
The Hilltopper offense was once again dominated by McHenry in the second half. The guard’s 15 points, two rebounds, and three steals sealed the WKU victory and conference championship. In total on the night, McHenry had 25 points on 9-16 from the field, 2-8 from three, with four rebounds, and four steals.
UTEP’s offense was still being led by Powell in half number two. Powell tallied 11 points in the half, giving him 21 points on the night.
Team Second Half Statistics:
WKU: 10-27 FG, 1-7 3FG, 17-23 FT | 23 Rebounds: 15 Defensive, eight Offensive.
UTEP: 12-32 FG, 4-12 3FG, 7-10 FT | 20 Rebounds: 13 Defensive, six Offensive.
With the win, the Hilltoppers claim their first C-USA title on their fourth attempt, and Coach Steve Lutz’s third straight conference title win.

CUSA hits a home run with Delaware addition.
Obviously, this is an opinion piece but the addition of Delaware is another strong add for CUSA. IMO.
Why am I so gung ho on Deleware? Because Delaware can draw 20,000 fans and compete with MAC caliber football programs. Delaware was drawing more than 20,000 per game to see FCS football games before they reduced their stadium capacity. Now that they are increasing it again, I think in short order they will be back up to 22,000 a game or so.
Delaware was a consistent top 25 team at the FBS level on the field each year.
Realistically Delaware was in that elite class of FCS school that could walk into FBS and compete because they have the on the field component and the financial support component. They were peers to the Montanas and Dakota State schools at the FCS level, just like schools like Jacksonville State.
But there is more to my admiration for this addition. 1) Delaware had to pay $5M to move up...and they paid it. That is a cost of doing business now and schools saw a school pay it. 2) Delaware is a good academic brand and a state flagship. That is a great pickup for CUSA. Birds of a feather flock together. Delaware is a truly attractive member in a region that is potential a cash-generating region for CUSA. 3) The is no second-tier FBS conference in the Northeast. There are tons of viewers up there. Delaware opens the door for CUSA in the Northeast if they have the vision to go there and not be short-sighted. 4) Delaware is good enough for CUSA but likely isn't good enough for the American/ might be blocked by Temple. Now could CUSA lose them to the sunbelt in short order? Yeah ...that could happen if CUSA is short-sighted and leaves Delaware on an island. But Delaware is forgettable in the other revenue sport, basketball.

A 6'1 dude is competing against women and injuring them in the process. Yes contact sports always have the risk of injury, however the women are being injured more frequently when competing against him. And he's taking time away from his female teammates who should be the ones playing. But he doesn't care.
By Anna Slatz April 17, 2024
Reduxx has learned that a feminine male has been participating in elite women’s collegiate sports in California after his biological sex was reportedly withheld from his teammates and his opponents. Blaire Fleming, born Brayden, is currently playing women’s Division I volleyball for San Jose State University in the reputable Mountain West Conference.
Speaking to Reduxx, the mother of an opposing player revealed that her suspicions were first raised during the 2022-2023 season.
“I first watched my daughter play Blaire via live stream and then in person for a second match,” the mother, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “My daughter mentioned to me before the second match that there were rumors about Blaire being a male.”
Upon attending the match, she immediately noticed that Fleming appeared to be male, both in the way he looked and his mannerisms on the court.
“He jumped higher and hit harder than any woman on the court. There was no other female athlete on the court that day that could compare with Blaire’s athleticism. He also had very narrow hips. I took notice of how he was dressed with a longer shirt in the front as well.”
Tumblr media
During the match, the anonymous parent noted that her daughter was suffering far more physical injuries and strains than she ever had before in her volleyball career, and was constantly icing and rubbing her arms after blocking shots from Fleming. She says her daughter’s teammates were also struggling, with the defenders being unable to react quickly to his high-intensity strikes.
“He was basically unstoppable at times. He was jumping so high that I was concerned our blockers could not defend against such a fast moving hit,” she says.
On average, the difference between upper body strength in the sexes is 52%, with men having 10% larger hands on average and being 7% taller. These factors have contributed to a volleyball net height difference of over 7 inches between male and female games. According to his San Jose Spartans profile, Fleming stands at 6’1.
“Coincidentally, those two games, my daughter’s stats were not as good as most other games. Her stats were dramatically different because she was trying to compete against a male who my daughter said would stare her down after plays and was extremely arrogant.”
The mother also revealed that despite widespread speculations that Fleming was male, officials from San Jose State let it slip to her daughter’s team that even they were unaware of his biological sex. She adds that the policies must change to ensure fairness for female athletes.
“I watched those San Jose State female athletes sit on the sidelines while a male took away their chance to play. These women only have 4 years to compete and they are losing those years to a male. Not only that, but the chance of injury is greatly increased for women when they play against a male with very clear physical strength advantages. It’s just dangerous above all else.”
Prior to transferring to San Jose, Fleming was participating in women’s volleyball in South Carolina for Coastal Carolina University. He appears to have fled to California just before the Save Women’s Sports Bill became law in the state, which would have prohibited him from continuing to play on female teams.
Fleming had also played on the girls varsity volleyball team at John Champe High School in Virginia, where he was raised. During this time, Fleming set the school record for most kills in a match, and single season record of 266 kills.
While the exact age Fleming was transitioned is unknown, early photos posted to his aunt’s Facebook show he was raised as a boy, and only began presenting in feminine clothing in 2016 when he would have been approximately 14 years old. His family members have been careful not to publicly identify him as transgender, but his grandmother referred to him as her “grandson” in an early photo.
Fleming is currently participating in Division I volleyball, which is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Division I (DI) volleyball teams can offer a maximum of 12 full-ride scholarships, meaning athletes will have all expenses related to their college experience paid for.
While it is currently unknown if Fleming has received a women’s DI scholarship, the NCAA has recently become the subject of a lawsuit by over one dozen female athletes for allowing males to compete against them in women’s categories.
The lawsuit, the first federal action of its kind, seeks to force the NCAA to change its policies to clearly define, rendering any biological males ineligible to compete against female athletes. It demands the NCAA revoke all awards given to trans athletes in women’s competitions and “reassign” them to their female contenders. It also asks for “damages for pain and suffering, mental and emotional distress, suffering and anxiety, expense costs and other damages due to defendants’ wrongful conduct.”
Exclusive funding support for the lawsuit is being provided by the Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS), which has been calling attention to the presence and impact of male athletes in women’s categories.
Speaking to Reduxx on Blaire Fleming, ICONS’s Marshi Smith condemned the NCAA for failing to guarantee transparency or protection to female athletes who are forced to compete against men.
“The NCAA is defrauding female athletes by withholding information about a teammate or opponent’s true sex,” Smith says. “Women are not given the chance to decide whether they want to face heightened safety risks on the court or share women’s locker rooms with men. The NCAA’s reward system encourages deceit, leading to financial and academic advantages for males at the expense of girls and young women in sports. This harmful practice must be stopped immediately.”
Fleming is not the first trans-identified male athlete to conceal his biological sex for the purposes of participating in women’s collegiate sports.
As previously reported by Reduxx, a volleyball player from California was briefly set to become the first known male recipient of a women’s NCAA Division I athletic scholarship after successfully hiding his biological sex from his teammates.
Tate Drageset, 17, verbally committed to the University of Washington, but following the expose revealing his was a biological male, it was learned that the University rescinded the offer.

Greg Owen at LGBTQ Nation:
Antisemitic Christian nationalist Nick Fuentes has previously dined with President Donald Trump and hosted Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene at his own white supremacist America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC). But while Fuentes had planned to hold his fourth AFPAC this weekend in Detroit, Michigan, the hosting venue canceled at the last minute, leaving Fuentes threatening to sue them… then it got even worse for him.
Fuentes then spent Saturday trolling his sworn enemy, antisemitic Christian nationalist Charlie Kirk, as well as the “People’s Convention” hosted by Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization (which was also held in Detriot). The organization is a high school and college Republican club that former President Donald Trump hopes will work as a “force multiplier” for him within battleground states during the coming election — which is why Trump spoke at this year’s event. On Saturday, Fuentes tried to crash Kirk’s convention and was booted by venue security, who had standing orders to bar Fuentes and his wingman, antisemitic Christian nationalist Jake Shields. “You’re a cuck for Israel,” Shields told a suited event security enforcer who led the AFPAC group from the premises. “You’re sucking Israel’s c*ck. You oughta be ashamed. I’m America First, not Israel First.” While Fuentes is a Trump fan from way back (and Kirk is, too), Fuentes claimed in a video shot — outside the Turning Point recent Detroit gathering — that Kirk and his young Republicans are in thrall to Jewish people.
Cue the Benny Hill theme song: The venue that was supposed to hold the white nationalist and antisemitic America First Political Action Conference in Detroit contra TPUSA’s The People’s Conference cancelled the Nick Fuentes-led shindig.
