Okay I've thought a lot about how I would do the Tom King Best of the Best style Black Canary vs. Shiva fight (whilst keeping as much of the original idea in tact).

Main thing is that I would change the training line up. In his version you have Wildcat (Ted Grant), the original Black Canary (Dinah Drake), and Batman training her. And while I love her JSA links getting a shout out I have no idea why Batman is there except for the fact that both King and DC think Batman has to be everywhere.

If I was to redo it I would have the lineup instead be:

Dinah Drake and Ted Grant

Connor Hawke

Cassandra Cain

So partially this is just because Connor Hawke and Cassandra Cain are two of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the DC universe who have previously and fought and held their own against Lady Shiva.

But also they also have more thematic significance. Along with Grant and Drake represent the key superhero groups that Dinah has been part of and shaped throughout her superhero career. Drake and Grant representing the JSA who raised her. Connor Hawke representing the Arrow Family she shaped. And Cassandra Cain representing the Birds of Prey she co-founded and her future as a hero.

(She has also been JLA/JLI and you could fit Batman in for that, but I would argue that she is the premiere hand-to-hand fighter of the main JLA cast over him)

Not only does this provide a good showcase of different chapters Dinah's story, but it also highlights the importance of her role in the DC universe as a teammate and often a team leader. Also it allows the people whose lives and heroic careers she's shaped to support her in her literal fight for the top billing as a solo act as she strives to become DC's Best of the Best.

Luci is Aida’s older sister and acting guardian. Due to…family complications, Luci’s mission is to raise Aida and make ends meet—while drawing as little attention to themselves as possible. The fact that Aida has magic powers and acrofacial vitiligo makes it a bit hard to blend in, though.

I also watched an entire film about Go which I also don't know anything about except that it's very old and difficult and I also know very little to nothing about chess or poker but it came up in films often enough that I was vaguely familiar with some vocabulary or could guess if things were going well. With Go I was completely lost but it added a lot of suspense lol

PLOTS & WISHLIST !

FIANCÉ : When Ranma was a kid, his father had basically sold him to a lot of people –that wanted a heir to marry their daughter– in exchange for food when he was young. Of course, his father immediately stole him back afterwards and ran away once he got his food, but a deal is a deal. If your muse has a closed-minded parent, or otherwise did actually like Ranma when they met him, we can set a plot where they meet / be forced to meet. All your muse will need to know about Ranma is that he’s pretty good at martial arts, and that he likes food. Ranma has trouble remembering people, so he would likely have no clue who your muse is aside from an odd sense of deja vu. He would absolutely believe your muse if they tell him his dad sold him for food, though.

CAT MUSE : A muse with feline attributes interacting with Ranma. He’s deathly terrified of cats, so it would make for one fun interaction. Felines are his ultimate weakness. Be prepared, because his coping mechanism with this fear is pretty odd, to say the least.

COMEDY : Ranma needs something from your muse. He secretly turns himself into a girl and tries to befriend / woo your muse to have them help him out. Unfortunately, things quickly get complicated.

UH OH : Your muse catches Ranma turning into a girl / back into a guy. Horrified at the prospect of your muse selling out his secret, Ranma will do anything for your muse to get on their good side and make them promise not to tell anyone.

TROUBLEMAKER : Especially when he’s amidst a fight, Ranma tends to forget his surroundings, which often causes him to crash right into valuable things and damage them. If your muse has something really valuable that you want broken, this plot might work for them. Similarly, if your muse is dangerous, this is a great way to get Ranma on their bad side and cause either a one-sided or a mutual hostility.

RYOGA : This one’s just a wishlist thing. I need a Ryoga muse for my Ranma to pester like the mf he is.

Obligatory Maul age record: he was 7 when enrolled in the Orsis Academy. His friendship begins with Kilindi when he is 10 years old.

Some other notes:

No friends + new free time = Maul might have been a library kid.

The Orsis Academy has "martial arts competition[s] against a rival military school." Do with this information what you will.

Some friends of mine are headed to the World Games for karate competition, and they can use a hand! They are part of the Ohio US Martial Arts Team, and they brought a lot of hardware home from London in 2019. They're hoping to repeat in Florida next month!
