This is IMPORTANT....especially with the climate of protest, politricks and pro-vid-19 being what they are right now. 👊 Reposted from @blackpower.tv #ByronAllen and #Comcast have settled the long-running racial discrimination lawsuit over Allen’s cable channels that went all the way to the Supreme Court last November. 👊 Comcast has reached a deal with Allen’s Entertainment Studios to pick up three of his cable channels — Comedy.TV, Recipe.TV and JusticeCentral.TV. The pact also amend the terms of Comcast’s existing deal to carry Weather Channel, which Allen’s company acquired in 2018. It also covers the retransmission consent rights to 14 local TV stations that Allen Media Group has acquired during the past few months. 👊 Allen filed a $20 billion lawsuit against the media giant in 2015, asserting that the media giant violated civil rights law by refusing to carry his portfolio of seven niche cable channels. Do you know YOUR power? I have been learning about mine. I have also seen what happens when PEOPLE stand up and stand together. They change everything. Removed is the hidden agenda to hurt an unknowing or uncaring community when people empower themselves. That is when the slow road to improvements begin. It is a "slow road" because I see many agendas inside the unified #BlackLivesMatter that include civil rights, human rights, immigrant rights, gay rights, constitutional rights, workplace fairness, small business equality, the census and voting. I post about my family in small bits and peace, my music creations and interpretations, ride share and travel with occasional posts about #todaysmath like this one and other people I think have "said" something important with their platform that I agree with (#repost). Here is a final thought on something important happening I would like you to think about: Municipalities can begin by changing policies or statutes so police officers never respond to certain kinds of emergencies, including ones that involve substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness or mental health. Instead, health care workers or emergency response teams would handle these incidents. So if someone calls 911 to report a drug overdose, health care teams rush to the scene; the police wouldn’t get involved. If a person calls 911 to complain about people who are homeless, rapid response social workers would provide them with housing support and other resources. Conflict interrupters and restorative justice teams could mediate situations where no one’s safety is being threatened. Community organizers, rather than police officers, would help manage responses to the pandemic and other serious matters.
