For example, if one person has a habit of brushing their hands through their hair the other may pick up on that and do the same or if one person has a habit of talking with their hands the other person may pick up on that habit too.

The question isn’t entirely out of left field – not for Hazel, anyway, whose preschool teacher got married a few weeks ago and came back with all kinds of pictures and stories. Apparently, Hazel’s been eating it all up, and she’s their most romantical kid, so to speak, so that’s not really a shock.

Thing is, Eddie and Steve are already married – have been for six years this past May, so…

“Uh, we are married, Hazy-Jay,” Eddie answers before Steve has a chance to say anything.

Hazel’s face falls, her mouth parting.

“Huh?”

Steve inwardly cringes.

“You got married before?” Hazel asks, her chin quivering like she’s only a few moments away from tears (and she’s their most emotional kid too, so she probably is).

“People get married before they have kids, Hazel,” seven-year-old Robbie points out all matter-of-fact.

“Well,” Steve pauses, because, yeah, Robbie is mostly not wrong, but those pesky gay marriage laws had kept him and Eddie from getting married until Massachusetts finally legalized it in ‘04 (when Moe was three and Robbie six-ish months old and Hazel still two years away). He’s pretty sure that level of nuance might be lost on their four-year-old though.

“Not Dad and Papa,” Moe cuts in, “Me and you were there, Robbie.”

“Moe,” Eddie mutters, “Not helping.”

“What?” Moe shrugs, “It’s true!”

Hazel looks positively devastated by this information.

“Why didn’t you wait for me?”

“Well, hon, we didn’t know you were coming,” Steve tries, “We didn’t know any of you were coming!”

“That’s not true,” Moe points out, “You knew about Robbie.”

“Moe,” Eddie hisses.

Steve reaches behind him to snag a framed photo of him and Eddie and Steve and Moe and Robbie all smiling at the camera on the steps of Boston City Hall off the shelf it perches on.

“You know this picture?” he asks as Hazel climbs into his lap. She nods, “This is from the day Dad and I got married.”

“It doesn’t look like a wedding,” Hazel says skeptically, her nose all scrunched up. 

“‘Cause it wasn’t really a wedding,” Steve tells her, “We got married at a courthouse in Boston – same courthouse where we adopted you and where we adopted Moe and where we adopted Robbie.”

“Why did you adopted us?”

“Well, you know how sometimes we take emergency foster placements every once in a while and we’ll have a new friend for a few days?”

Hazel nods.

“Dad and I used to do that all the time,” he continues, “and that’s how we met Moe, and so for two years it was just me and Daddy and Moe, and then we found out that you guy’s mom was gonna have another baby, and then we met Robbie.”

“And then me?”

“And then you,” Steve nods, “It was me and Dad and Moe and Robbie for three years, and then one day we found out that your mom had another baby, and that was you.”

Hazel wordlessly mulls this over for a bit, and then she lets out a pensive little sigh.

“If you would’a known about me before, would you wait?”

“To get married? Of course we would’ve waited.”

“And then maybe you would’a had a real wedding?”

“Maybe,” Steve affirms, even though…probably not, because that shit is expensive and, seriously, nothing out there could have prepared Steve for the reality of their college savings goal doubling overnight.

“Where is our mom now?” Hazel then asks.

Moe, helpful as always, cuts in with, “She’s dead now.”

“Moe,” Eddie exclaims for the third time, “Jee-eez, read the room please!”

🌞SOLAR RETURN OBSERVATIONS PT.3

Since most of you voted for Solar Return Chart Observations, here we are! I will post the other topics that I mentioned in the poll as well but first,here you go~☺️💖 THESE NOTES ARE ONLY A STUDY OF MINE AND HAS/HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN YET, SO IF IT DOES NOT RESONATE WITH YOU, FORGIVE ME AS IT WAS ONLY A STUDY/OBSERVATION OF MINE.

Also, I tend to include this activity in my observations titled 'Imagine' so I can help in making you understand these observations as well as make it fun and easy for you guys. So whenever you see an 'imagine' title, please try imagining what I ask you to imagine, you can be creative with it because imagination is a wonderful way to learn better.

• Where Chiron sits in the Solar Return Chart is where you will experience a lot of pain but also where you are pushed to heal unhealed past wounds. This can even reopen old wounds. You will either hurt people there or will be hurt by subjects related to that house.

Example: Chiron in the 11th house can make you have hurtful experiences with social groups where you may feel left out, you may be insulted or bullied through jokes by your friends, you may also hurt your friends and if you have an elder sibling, he/she can play the role as well where either they are the ones wounding you or pushing you to heal what you haven't healed (intentionally or unintentionally) and also possibly your relation with them can be quite rocky and hurtful this year.

• Where your Fama asteroid(408) is, is where you will be very recognised and known. Where a lot of eyes are on you and your every move is witnessed by others.

Example: I had this last year in the 9th and I was very recognised in my college, by my teachers and my classmates. Every one of them had eyes on me (not like in a creepy way, for some reason they always witnessed what I was doing, but yes,my teachers intentionally kept an eye on me because I was a big responsibility and was in a lot of drama, even though I didn't want to be in it{I had it with venus, Pluto, Mars and mercury}).

The reasons why you are recognised or seen by many will depend upon the planet there or the sign overlaying that house (make sure to check where the sign lord is sitting in the chart).

• Having Gemini Ascendant in the solar Return Chart means you will definitely be surrounded by friends and talk a lot that year. Even if you are the most silent creature on planet Earth, you will yourself be surprised how much you speak to others that year.

Example: I am an INFP type and we are firstly known as introverts, even if you do not believe in the personality types, it's okay, I was a very quite person in 2023 and the years before that but last year (2024) I had Gemini Ascendant and God, I could not shut my mouth. I kept laughing with friends, joking around with them but I also had a LOT of mood swings so be prepared for that as well. People couldn't quite understand how I suddenly became this and then that within a fraction of seconds (which is the duality of this sign).

• Any planet or asteroid sitting in the 1st house becomes the theme of that year. Whatever happens that year in any area of your life will definitely be connected or will surround the topic of that planet or asteroid. That planet or asteroid will be the major focus that year for you.

✨ Imagine:

Your chart as the solar system and that planet in the 1st house becomes the sun while everything else in the chart represents the planets that revolve around that sun.

Example: If you have moon in the 1st house, overall that year will be revolving around your emotions, you home, your mother, your mind, women in general and your secrets.

Also make sure to check where the planets sign is seated because that house and the planets seated there are most tied to this planet.

• If you don't have any planets, look at the ascendant lords placement in the chart. 👇

An Example:

Leo ascendant sign lord, sun sitting in the 6th house, overall the theme of this year will surround your health, your mundane chores, your lifestyle, your pets, your innocence, your acquaintances, your hidden enemies etc.

Now, also check the aspects to the planet and whether the planet is seated with anyone else as well. If is Sun sitting with Pluto in the 6th house then overall there is a huge transformation in the way you go about your day, your health can also change drastically for the good or bad.

If the planet is conjunct another planet which is sitting in a different house, then the effects of that planet in that house will affect the other house as well. Like if sun in the 6th house is conjunct mercury in the 7th house, the areas of relationships and partnerships also will affect your health this year and there will be a focus on that area of your life as well.

Before studying your Solar Return Chart always see if till this day the whole sign Solar Return chart is reasonating with you or if placidus method is working out fine because it can really make a difference as the planets can shift into the next house in the whole sign method and changes the prediction.

SPECIAL DEGREES!

A planet in Special degrees (0°,22°,11°,29°) can indicate that the planet will be playing a VERY HUGE role in impacting that year for you. The degrees matter as well though:

• 0° = Major or Massive changes will occur there or that planet will have an unforgettable impact in that house and that area of your life. Whichever planet is in this degree will have an entirely new way of how they show up in your life so always check it's aspects and placement.

An Example:

I had my Pluto in 0° last year and my pluto was in the 9th house with venus, mercury and Mars. Now, Pluto had conjunct Venus and Mars so my beauty and the way I showed up in my college was entirely different, like an unrecognisable change was seen in me. Major changes were seen in my education, my beauty, the way I took action, the way I carried myself around, the way I dealt with men, my relation with my dad and teachers, etc.

I also had a lot of experiences where I showed my tough side towards a man which I never did in my entire life. Pluto took an entire 360° turn in my life but also this made me have so much of a controversial presence in the lives of my classmates and those I had real connections with. I was always in the drama in my college, lol, even when all I did was exist. There was so much of drama in my life last year, gosh.

•22° = This is the famous "kill or be killed degree" and yes, that is exactly how I feel this degree works out in a chart. Whenever a planet is in this degree in your Solar Return Chart, that planet is going to challenge the hell out of you. I'm not even joking. Look, I don't want you getting into a war with a planet for pete sake😂 but that planet is up for a challenge so kill that planet with kindness (not literally kill, and if any planet heard me, I am sorry, but these guys need to know wtf you doin' lol).

An Example:

I had my Moon in 22° last year and my Moon was sitting with uranus and Jupiter in the 12th house, conjuncting with Uranus. Oh. Mah gosh. First of all the uranus was giving me Hell on a silver platter and then came this moon who wanted to challenge me. I was so damn EMOTIONAL!! Like I faced such internally damaging experiences that challenged my emotional strength and my decision making ability was so challenged because I was always having an uneasy mind. My morals were challenged by my emotions.

I just wanted to go into a coma till it all ended. My entire year was like that "eeemotional ddaaaamage" meme lol. 😭But damn, I put up a good fight. Even my mom and I were in a huge war with eachother, no. Literally. Anyways, I was in an internal war with my mind, my mother, my home, my family, my emotions and my goddamn tears that didn't stop flowing like a waterfall. I hated my entire family last year and was in an epic war with them but yeah, I got through it all.

(Not necessary you will hate your family too or be at war with them, but you may struggle with the women in your family or women in general).

• 11° = OOkayy, now we come to this nice degree. This degree is all about the leveling up. When a planet is in this degree, you are gonna see major unexpected changes related to that area. Even a glow up! You will be throwing out the old and making space for the new when it comes to the areas of that planet.

You will be experiencing more events that open up your mind more and change your perspective on things in that area. This also makes you very influential in the areas related to that planet and house. You can also gain online popularity that year or just be seen by many online accounts that year based on what planets is in this degree.

This will also make you show up very uniquely in the areas of that house and the planet. You will also be very active online and have a lot of online connections based on what planets is in this degree, for example if one has venus in this degree, it can be more online romantic suitors or just flings.

The planet can show the reason for your online popularity or influential presence.

An Example:

I have Jupiter in 11° in the 10th house this year and even though the year just started and my birthday recently passed, I did come back here on Tumblr after a very long time and have already been posting a lot which many people read. Also, I will have a lot of recognition this year.

Also, I will level up definitely this year immensely and by next year, I will again be unrecognisable to those whose known me since ages. I am also being seen by readers online a lot because of my spiritual content and content related to deities which is Jupiter (ruler of the 9th and 12th house).

• 29°= Well, this is a very well known fame degree along with 0° and 11°. Even 17° is in this category but it is not as special as these degrees are in my opinion. The 29° can make a planet reach its highest peak that year. That planet is in its peak, like really really strong.

This is because this degree is the highest and the last degree in the chart. In Vedic astrology we often term a natal planet in the highest degree as 'Aatmakaaraka' which means "soul carrier".

So basically, the planet in this degree this year will be the planet carrying your soul for the entire year. Whether you are in good hands or not cannot be told with the degree but with how the planets position is and where the planet is seated.

Now, when I say that I don't mean you will be in danger if the planet in this degree is sort of malefic and harsh, but I will say that you will be experiencing whatever that planet offers in your chart, a 100% so if it is planets like Mars, Pluto, neptune, uranus or Saturn or these planets are in conjunct with the planet in 29°, you can face a lot of struggles, but please don't take too much tension.

It's like That planet will be in a sugar rush where they are completely active, like no stopping, just doing doing doing.

Again, how and for what you will be very recognised for is based on the planet in this degree.

✨ Imagine:

The planet in 29° is a giant who is carrying you on the palm of his/her hand till your next birthday and you can't even get off the giants hand because if you jump out of his/her hand, you'll fall, some few feet, till you get squashed on the soil, so you have to just sit there and see where the giant takes you. You can question the giants actions and maybe even change directions but you cannot get off the giants hand till you reach the destination that the giant is taking you to.

An Example:

I had Venus in 29° last year and my Venus was in the 9th house with mercury, Pluto and Mars, conjuncting Mars and Pluto. Now....I obviously had an extreme unrecognisable glow up and I was the major topic of romance in my college for the drama that took place with it.

There was Major drama in my love life in college last year and I was the topic of so much gossip (mercury in the 9th). I also had a lot of arguements and competition with the women in my college even though I never wanted it. Venus was also trine ascendant so I was seen as rather charming and not egotistical by others.

People knew I was genuine and that others unnecessarily got triggered by my presence (12th housers problems) but yes, I was also seen as unattainable by the opposite and even the same gender. (Trust me,it's just the Pluto effect, I look like an average human being with acne😀).

Also, I couldn't stop this Venus giant from taking me where I was supposed to be taken,I did change directions and everything but nah, in the end, the giant took me to the destination meant for me...Hell. lol😂😂 no, I'm joking, it took me to a better place.

Having a lot of special degrees, like I had last year, can be a year full of experiences like never before. Whatever you never experienced, you will be experiencing this year. For some reason even if events are quite similar, they just don't feel the same and you will remember that year extremely well because of how much different it felt and how it deeply impacted you.

when reading a solar return chart, i always look at chiron’s placement. chiron can tell you where you’ll be struggling the most that year.

chiron never fails to give you a hard lesson, you cannot go against the lessons chiron has prepared for you. although this seems tough, once the pain and grief is experienced, you’ll be gifted with strength.

The Equitable Grading Project, a nonprofit organization that seeks to change grading practices, compared 33,000 course grades with students’ scores on standardized exams, including Advanced Placement tests and annual state assessments. The organization considered a course grade to be inaccurate if a student’s test score indicated a level of knowledge that was at least a letter grade off from what the teacher had issued. For example, a grade was classified as inaccurate if a student’s test score indicated a C-level of skills and knowledge, but the student received an A or a B in the course. In this example, a D or an F grade would also be inaccurate.

Inflated grades were more common than depressed grades. In this analysis, over 40 percent of the 33,000 grades analyzed – more than 13,000 transcript grades – were higher than they should have been, while only 16 percent or 5,300 grades were lower than they should have been.  In other words, two out of five transcript grades indicated that students were more competent in the course than they actually were, while nearly one out of six grades was lower than the student’s true understanding of the course content.

The discrepancy matters, the white paper says, because inaccurate grades make it harder to figure out which students are prepared for advanced coursework or ready for college. With inflated grades, students can be promoted to difficult courses without the foundation or extra help they need to succeed. Depressed grades can discourage a student from pursuing a subject or prompt them to drop out of school altogether. 

“This data suggests that hundreds, perhaps thousands, of students in this study may have been denied, or not even offered, opportunities that they were prepared and eligible for,” the white paper said.

why my 2024 solar return sucked

today i will be talking about and dissecting why my 2024 solar return year was so. god. awful. one of the worst years of my life YET. my boyfriend cheated on me, i dropped out of college, hooked up with my coworker and hated every bit of it, attempted against my life, and got diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I did not know what peace was for it was a strange concept. my ego and everything i ever known and loved was ripped away at the seams. if i could describe this solar return year with a song, it’d be this one.

pluto retrograde in the 1st house

this placement already set me up for failure. this year, i was called to reclaim my personal power, burn away who i thought i was, and rebuild a new identity from the inside out. somethings i had to learn the hard way was to embrace solitude, don’t fear endings, and allow myself to change.

another extremely rough and heavy placement. i felt blocked and unsupported and felt as though maturity was forged through the pain.

8th house profection year

an 8th house protection year is NOT for the faint of heart. i felt as though i was being cracked down emotionally, isolated, and had a lot of my fears of abandonment and betrayal resurface this year.

conclusion

thankfully, my 2024 solar return year is coming towards an end, and can confidently say that 2025 will be just as insane as this years but it’ll be okay, because i am still here despite of it all and i can do it again with some preparation. I finally got over my ex after almost a year, im going back to school this fall semester, STILL hooking up with my coworker 🤣, and i finally got the help i needed.

Magic for the college witch

In honor of finding out I am set to graduate in December with my associates in science I have decided to celebrate with you all by sharing my tips and tricks I used to help pass some of my classes! Each tip will be sorted into circumstances as to where they may be applicable. Please enjoy, and congrats to all my future grads!

Reminder: In dorms and such you wont have access to many tools, but if your living in an apartment things are less strict. every time you see candles and such if you live in a dorm replace it with either electric candles or even colored stones you can rub together or place in a grid!

Registering for classes

Often times we try to register for classes as soon as possible, especially when you are an incoming freshman. When it comes to getting accepted and starting the process congrats your here.

Set up registering appointments on lucky number days, during the new moon, or on Mondays and Thursdays because those times represent readiness and preparation

Manifest getting good classes and teachers by sending off a prayer out to the universe

Do divination when registering opens to see if a teacher is a good fit or not (Also check out rate my professor)

If you are having trouble establishing classes, or just cant seem to get that *one* class you need, light a blue candle and put mint at the base of it to promote an opening

If your facing a situation where you are trying to get into an exclusive class (this also works if your presenting a thesis) put a sugar packet under your tongue to sweeten your words and make you more convincing

Getting to class on time

The commute anywhere can be a really hard thing to do, whether your commuting from a dorm to a classroom or city to campus it can be hard to be on time or find the motivation to show up to class

To motivate yourself to go to class keep a carnelian under your pillow to help you rise in the morning

Keep a consistent schedule, not only is this helpful psychologically but magically consistency helps build up magical energy towards motivation

enchant your walking shoes (or get heelies) to put pep in your step and always be on time when walking. You can optionally put a sigil in your shoe

enchant cars to avoid red lights by charging your keys in full moon light

Light a green candle before important days to make sure your morning commute runs smoothly

Setting up magical space in the dorms

Most dorms don't allow things like candles or flames, heaters, strip lights, etc. With this in mind people assume it must be hard to create a magical space without some of the key items, but we do have solutions!

Instead of regular candles, use electric ones as votives on deity altars

Instead of incense use MILD essential oil diffusers like lava stones in the corners, or a defuser. Bonus points if you use a dehumidifier

Chances are you wont have a lot of space, so opt for small placements on desks via mini figures and small stones

Set up sachets around your space and put them in clothing areas, not only do they smell good and keep moths away, they act as magical protection

Start working on energy based practices like meditation or enchantments with only your body

Navigating relationships

College can be a hard time, your adjusting to life without the friends you grew up with, most people start their dating life, and friends begin to come and go as you go through classes. Don't restrict what you experience

When you brush your teeth, enchant it to represent you 'speaking your truth' and 'biting back' so your protected from people who have bad intentions or are deceptive

When at parties and such put a sigil of protection on your left thigh, this represents protection from people looking to harm you

blow cinnamon at your door, or use a light cinnamon essential oil wash to invite new people and opportunities

Keep amber under your pillow or by photos to maintain friendships and help you let go of ones that no longer serve you

wear silver to repel energy vampires or people who are looking to use you

Studying success

Studying and how effective it is will depend on you and how you like to study, there are hundreds of posts online that look at how to find your study style, this more focuses on magic you can do for memory retention

Chew mint gum during studying AND during your test for memory recall

Draw sigils on your physical flash cards to make the information easier to retain

On the third of each month save that day to brush up on all information from the class, not only does this prep you for the final but this day is Athenas ritual day

Study the most on Wednesdays as they represent wisdom

Use a shungite worry stone during studying and testing to help keep your mind focused and stress free before tests

Test taking

Test taking can be a really hard part of college, I know it was for me. We do a lot of things to help prepare but what can we do during a test?

Create a sigil of good luck on top of your exam

Wear green on exam days

Eat and drink something enchanted (I swear by a snickers and a red bull) before a test for good luck

Create a superstition like a lucky shirt or pair of socks after your first good exam grade

Wear gold accessories to enhance your test taking skills, and speed up your test (Great when you are being timed)

Mental Health

Your mental health in college is very important, it can be hard being separated from your home town or family and just know that it does get better. College is a mix of emotions, from the loneliest point in your life, to the most social. You will be navigating new challenges, new feats, and its important to take care of yourself. Seek out the college mental health resources available to you like counseling as needed. you matter!

Use words of affirmations when you wake up and before you sleep to remind yourself you matter, my favorite is from the help "You is smart, you is kind, you is important"

Carry rose quartz and carnelian on you for self love and energy

Before bed drink lavander tea for rest and revitalization

Pray over your food to nourish your spirit as you go through college

Write down letters and petition to the universe for stability and how you feel.

"These are for you."

Benedict hands you a bouquet of purple flowers that look like tinted daisies. You laugh, holding them with care. "Good lord, you really are a gentleman, handing out flowers after intimacy..."

He laughs and shakes his head. "Actually, these come from the Bridgerton family. Hyacinth and Eloise selected them for you. They symbolize... well, farewell."

You caress the petals and avoid Ben's eyes. "They're very beautiful. I'm sorry I couldn't see your sisters one last time, but they'll always be welcomed in Genovia... you as well."

Benedict nods dutifully but disregards the invitation, he knows this is where you part ways. "Have a safe journey, Your Royal Highness... and a good life."

You look at him a moment. "If you ever need anything..."

"I wouldn't write to you even so—and you know why."

You sigh. "But it was delightful, wasn't it?"

"Immensely," he agrees, grabbing your hand and kissing it.

You lean forward and kiss his cheek. "Be good, Ben. Life is already too complicated to make an enemy of ourselves."

His expression softens. "What was that thing you said during one of our first lessons? Value what is done with effort, correct?" You nod. "I shall do just that."

You bow like a man—you're wearing trousers, and you'd look ridiculous otherwise—then put the bouquet in the satchel hanging from your saddle, pulling yourself up on the horse with an agility you've never had on solid ground. It's close to midnight, so you leave your hair down, nodding at Benedict over your shoulder before prompting the creature into a steady pace.

The man takes a deep breath and looks up at the starry night, trying to memorize its colour and the exact placement of the moon so he can replicate it in a painting.

The next morning, Benedict visits his mother's house and finds a busy crowd inside. Eloise has decided to travel with Francesca for a while, and Benedict approaches her as she's leaving her bedroom, rolls his eyes playfully, and speaks in a reticent voice. "I will miss you."

Eloise giggles and holds him by the shoulders. "It's only a few months, then I'll be back..." she pauses, trying to sound casual. "I was thinking, brother, how about we embark on another journey, you and I?"

Benedict raises a brow, his expression growing playful. "The two of us out in the big great world? Do you think it wise? One of us is alright as long as they have sensible company—but each other? You're asking for trouble."

"Oh, as if you wouldn't love just that!" She swats his shoulder lightly. "Think about it. All our siblings have gone and married—"

"Are Gregory and Hyacinth part of the staff?"

"All our grown-up siblings," she clarifies with mild annoyance. "And you said you didn't want to wait long to be thoroughly confused with me, so there! We could linger away, avoid the season..."

"And go where?" Benedict asks. 

Eloise prepares for impact. "Genovia?"

Her brother's expression shuts down immediately; he turns away, now genuinely rolling his eyes. "You must be daft."

"But I so long to see it!" She hurries along, catching up with him in quick, eager steps. "The progressive culture—and Benedict, I've thought about it, if I want to change the world, shouldn't I go where the changes are happening? Learn straight from the source!"

"And be leeches to the royal family?" He asks curtly. "We're no one in Genovia."

"Even better! We can mingle with all kinds of people! Go to their schools—I might even be qualified to enrol in their college!"

Benedict pauses, realizing Eloise isn't thinking about the princess but finding a path for herself, one that truly satisfies her. He thinks back on the first conversation they had on the swing set, the desire to do more than just become someone's wife. She could have that in Genovia, and being of age, her mother would have little reason to stop her. But Mother could stop her if Benedict said no to accompanying her. Without him, she would never be allowed to leave. He was her one chance to get a grip on her future. How could he keep her away from that?

Benedict runs a hand over his face and groans. "On one condition."

"Yes?" Eloise leans in with bright, hopeful eyes.

"There will be no letter to the Princesses to let them know we're going. They were nice enough to help us with that entire Whistledown thing..."

"Oh, Y/N told you?" Eloise's smile grows. "Isn't she the most valiant woman you've ever met?"

"It was dangerous, and we are forever in debt," he says, though he agrees with his sister wholeheartedly. "Our job now is to mind our business and leave them alone."

"Of course," Eloise says, briefly catching a glimpse of a tiny brunette head rushing out of sight at the end of the hall. "I'll keep from contacting them entirely."

"Good," he nods gruffly. "Now go, Francesca's waiting."

"Take care, brother," Eloise hugs him. "We'll figure it out."

Without explaining what that means, Eloise walks away, leaving Benedict confused and with a lingering sense of anticipation.

The journey is wearisome in comparison to the first. Not that Paula and Marie aren't the ideal pair to travel with, but once you announce you have no intention of keeping contact with anyone but Queen Charlotte, they get quiet and sombre, and you take it to heart. 

Why do they act as if you've done something wrong? The plan was always to go home just as you'd left it. By the time you reach the castle, you're weary and sulking. Your parents welcome you with big smiles, happy that you endured months away from home, claiming you look grown, though you know they're only being playful.

"How's Nonna?" You ask. "Is she fully recovered?"

"Fully recovered and having a well-earned break from the twins," your mother says just as two pairs of loud, juvenile voices are heard at the top of the staircase. "Speaking of which..."

"I mie sorelli!" Richard slides down the marble bannister. "Buongiorno principesse, com'è andato il viaggio?"

"Noioso senza di noi," Rowan follows after his brother, though he uses the stairs properly. Both are wearing linen aprons splattered with strange fluids.

"Fratelli," you reply in a less excited voice, "yes, we had a good journey, and yes, we did miss you. Did you miss us?"

The twins hug you, though they're only effusive in their greetings because they know you and Marie hate to be touched when they're covered in experiments. Once you part, your mother speaks. "What is this about you working for Whistledown?"

You turn to your sister. "Marie! Tu es un moucharde, je t'ai dit que je leur dirais en temps voulu!"

"Mais je savais que tu n'allais jamais leur dire!"

"Assez!" Your mother interrupts the quandrel. "Y/N?"

You sigh, squaring your shoulders and speaking with dignity. "I did not work for Whistledown, I helped a young woman, who just happened to be Lady Whistledown."

"You became her friend because she was Lady Whistledown..." Your sister mutters. 

"Te callas o te rompo la—"

"Y/N!" Your mother says in warning. "Boys, take Marie upstairs and keep her company. Y/N, come with us."

You were right about your parents supporting Penelope, but they lecture you all the same about intervening in foreign affairs, even though you can tell their hearts aren't in it. They feel obliged to speak for Genovia rather than as your parents, and you understand, even if you wish your mother could be just that and be proud of you as a woman.

"Well, I'm just glad the Queen didn't know you were helping," your father concludes with a jolly smile. He's quite good at reducing the tension in any room. "And your lessons, how did they go?"

"Yes! That!" You hand over the sketchbook you've been keeping near at all times. "Learned tons from Mr Bridgerton, he received a letter of recommendation, just like we promised, and last I knew, he got commissioned by some lords. I'm very pleased."

Your father makes a hum of approval as he sees your drawings, delighted by your improvement and already thinking about getting you a teacher to continue with the lessons at home. He offers to send for Mr Bridgerton, but you quickly refuse the offer. "As much as I enjoyed myself, I've decided to take my place next to the throne this coming spring."

Your mother's expression brightens, and for a moment, she's all yours, not the monarch. "My dear!" She yanks you out of your chair and forces you to sit between her and your father. "I'm so happy to hear that!"

"Are you sure?" Your father asks, slightly worried. "You just came back from Britain, I thought you'd like to rest a bit before starting your practice. Didn't you say you'd wait until after your birthday?"

"Better to start now and do a smooth transition than to halt it, lose my rhythm, and be thrown back at it again abruptly. I'll be fine, I'm not half as scared as I used to be." You say, and you fully mean it.

It all seems so manageable now, you'll have a whole council behind you supporting and debating on every matter of the country. Some people like Penelope and Benedict only have themselves. Unlike their lives, yours isn't split in two, and there is no law or secret keeping you from being who you were born to be. You are grateful to have the life you have and eager to begin a new chapter—even if that eagerness is motivated by an urgency to make the time spent in London nothing but a memory.

"Look at you, my little woman," King Nicholas says with a softened expression. "I told you to grow more beautiful, not older. I wasn't ready to lose my girl."

"Your Highness, this just arrived from Britain," your mother's secretary enters the tea room before any of you can get sentimental. 

A servant brings in a parcel: flat, square, and light judging by how he carries it with one hand. He holds it before you, and you spot the fancy note attached to it, recognizing the handwriting. "It's from Ben—Mr Bridgerton!" You exclaim in surprise, barely able to keep appearances.

"Your tutor?" Your father raises a brow. "What does it say?"

"Just says thank you," you hand it over to your father.

"He's sent you a parting gift; how thoughtful." Your mother smiles, taking the parcel. "Let's see it."

Your heartbeat pounds; you hope Benedict hasn't sent anything improper thinking it funny, because now you are forced to open it in front of your parents. You do so with shaky hands and gasp quietly as the paper falls to reveal the painting he'd made thinking of you, the fluffy dove bursting through a bush of hydrangeas.

Your parents are equally pleased and impressed by the art piece. "This is his work?" Your mother asks. "I'd never seen anything like this..."

"Yes," you say breathlessly, your departure no longer liberating.

To have a piece of Benedict with you here, in Genovia, has yanked you out of your carefully crafted idea of seeing him as if in a dream: distant, finite. Now, he is in your life forever.
