evan: when asked about his favorite historic period, he just says "dinosaurs" and then moves on.

barty: he loves ww1 trench warfare... dont ask me why, he just does.

summary : after weeks of complaints to your friend and co-star, steve harrington, about the multitudes of shitty dates you’ve been on, he offers to set you up on a date that finally won’t go wrong.

warnings : this is all cute and sweet, PURE self indulgence, ik celeb steve could also be like djo-esque rockstar!steve, but actor!steve fit better here, it’s still the 80s btw

People bustle around you as you sit in a foldable chair, munching on various fruits and snacks and looking generally dejected, despite the happy face you put on for the scene you just shot. You’re staring blankly into space, wallowing in your own thoughts as you almost-robotically eat your snacks.

A figure sitting down besides you and speaking to you snaps you out of your thoughts as your friend and co-star, Steve Harrington, asks “What’s got you so down today?”

You blink a few times, looking over at him. “Shitty date,” you answer simply, offering your plate up.

“Again? Why does it seem like you go on a new shitty date every week?” he asks, stealing a grape. 

“I dunno, Steve, maybe it’s because men suck.” You give him a sardonic smile. 

“What happened this time?”

“Asshole showed up half an hour late to the restaurant and wouldn’t even split the bill,” you huff. “I mean, I get not wanting to treat for the whole thing, but asking a girl out and making her pay for your food? It’s ridiculous.”

He gives you a laugh, a mix of pity and genuine entertainment at the tragedy that is your love-life. “I’m not sure how you keep picking the shitty ones,” he says. “None of the guys I know are that bad.”

“Well, maybe you should set me up with one of these guys,” you suggest, mostly joking.

“You know what? Yeah. Are you free on Friday? Maybe around seven?” 

“Uh, yeah, I think so,” you say, giving him an amused look. “You’re seriously going to set me up with one of your friends?”

“Yeah. Blind date. I’ll give him your address and he’ll pick you up at seven for dinner. I’ve got a friend that’s been looking for a date anyway.” He looks genuinely excited to play matchmaker, practically bouncing with energy in his seat. 

“Alright then.” You decide to give him the benefit of the doubt. “Do I get to know the dress code?”

“I’ll call you and give you the details once I talk to my friend about it.”

“Do I at least get to know his name?” you ask, arching a brow.

“Uh… no?”

Friday evening, you’re all dolled up for the date. Steve had told you to dress fancy, said his friend would pick you up around seven to take you to some nice Italian place. At seven on the dot, your doorbell rings, and you hurry to answer the door, blinking confusedly when you see Steve waiting with a bouquet of lilies in a nice suit, the jacket the same color as your dress.

“Steve?” you’re still blinking a bit blankly at him, still extremely confused.

“Surprise?” he shrugs, holding out the flowers to you. 

“You’re my date?” you pause for a moment, surveying his outfit. “Is this why you asked me to tell you what color dress I was wearing?” you ask, reaching out to rub the lapel of his blazer between your fingers, clearly holding back a laugh.

“Sorry, was this a pathetic way to ask you out?”

“A little,” you confirm. “But it’s okay. I like my men a bit pathetic.”

He genuinely laughs at that, asking you “So we’re still on?”

“Yeah, just let me get these in a vase,” you say, taking the flowers from him.

After setting the flowers up on your dining table, you take the arm Steve offers you and head down to his car. It takes 20 minutes of a slightly-uncomfortable drive to the restaurant, mostly because neither of you really knew what to talk about. It didn’t feel right to resume the usual chatter and gossip you usually would have with each other in this circumstance. 

You didn’t mind the silence, it was overall fine. The only problem was that you felt as if you should say something the entire time, but had no idea what. You assumed Steve felt the same way with how his eyes would flick over to you whenever you’d stop at a light. 

You’re seated at your table quickly when you arrive at the restaurant, thanks to a reservation that Steve had put in earlier, and you finally figure out something to say. You try for a light and teasing comment, wanting to fall back into the causal rhythm the two of you had as friends. Why should your comfort around each other change just because of the setting? 

“So how long have you had a crush on me?” you say, a teasing smile playing on your lips.

He seems thankful that you broke the ice first, returning your smile with a grin of his own. “I think I’ve been attracted to you since we had to do that first chemistry read during auditions. I mean, you were always pretty, and I’m not blind. The crush,” he takes a pause at the childish word, clearly trying to not laugh, “only started last month.”

“Yeah?” you say, reaching for a piece of the bread and butter on the table. “What sparked it up? Or made you realize?”

“We were running lines for that once scene, the one where we’re arguing—”

“The one with the sexual tension?” you clarify, earning a genuine laugh from him at your lack of a filter.

“Yes, the one with the sexual tension,” he confirms with a nod, steeling himself with a sip of his wine. “We were running lines and you kept fumbling over one of yours and having to redo it ten times before you got it. We were both just laughing and I think I kinda just realized I liked you a lot more than just as a friend. I mean, I thought it was just an infatuation at first, that I was blurring together our real selves and the characters we were playing, but considering it’s been a month and I still like you, I don’t think that’s just it.”

“Is that why it took you so long to ask me out?” you ask.

“Yeah, partially,” he admits “But also because I thought you’d laugh in my face. That’s why I did the blind date thing.”

You think about it for a moment, chewing almost thoughtfully on your piece of bread. “I think I would’ve laughed,” you confirm after swallowing. “Not because I don’t think you’re attractive but kinda because I’d think you were playing some sort of trick or prank. 

Steve stares at you, then says your name the same way one would say “are you being serious right now?” He laughs, shaking his head. “You realize I’m not a fifteen year old boy, right?”

“Yes, I know that, but still,” you say. “I never thought you saw me as anything other than a friend.”

“Yet here we are,” he observes as your food is brought out by the waiter.

You thank the waiter quickly before turning back to him. “Yeah.” You smile at him. “Here we are.”

When Steve drives you back to your place and walks you to the door, you turn to face him before going inside. “Do you want to come in for a drink?” you ask. “Tea or decaf coffee or something? We could pop in a movie.”

“That would be nice.”

You lead him to your couch, gesturing to the various tapes you had. “You can pick the movie. How do you take your coffee?”

“Cream and two spoons of sugar,” he says, rifling through your movie options. “Top Gun? Seriously?”

“Oh, shut up,” you huff, moving into the kitchen to make your drinks.

You return with two mugs, handing him his coffee and setting your mug down on the coffee table as The Breakfast Club starts to play.

“Fun choice,” you comment. “I didn’t expect you to pick something so…” you trail off, searching for the right word “…unromantic?”

He laughs, taking a sip of his coffee. “Fuck— hot,” he mumbles, setting his mug down beside yours. 

“Burn your tongue?” you ask, hands moving to undo the strap of your heels, finally taking them off now.

“Yeah, a little.” He nods, scooting closer and taking your ankle in his hand, helping with your shoes and setting them aside when they’re off.

“Thanks.” You give him a smile, settling into the couch cushions.

“Yeah. Of course.”

The two of you watch the movie in silence, but it’s not the slightly-awkward silence that you had in the car on your way to the restaurant. It’s comfortable, nice. At some point, your head ends up resting against his shoulder, one of his arms wrapped around you and holding you close. At some point, both of you nod off before the credits roll, and the two of you sleep through the night, curled together. 

You only wake up the next morning when you feel something shifting beneath you—someone shifting beneath you. You blink a few times, eyes adjusting to the sunlight streaming through your living room windows, and see Steve trying to worm his way out from underneath you.

You sit up quickly, getting off of him, rubbing your eyes and smudging your day-old mascara. “Did we fall asleep last night?” you mumble, still half-asleep.

“I’d guess so,” he says. “I’ve been up for the past 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get up without waking you.”

“Mm, good job. You failed,” you say, earning a laugh from him. 

“I should probably be heading home,” he says, giving you something of an adoring smile as you yawn. “You’re cute in the morning,” he observes.

“You’re a suck-up in the morning,” you retaliate, but there’s no bite behind your words. “Let me see you out.”

The two of you walk to your door, Steve pausing on your doorstep before going to his car. “I had fun last night,” he says. 

“I did too,” you agree, smiling at him.

“So do you want to do this again sometime?”

“Are you asking me out on a second date?” you ask.

“Yeah.” He nods. “Yeah, I am.”

“I’d love to,” you say.

“How does next Saturday sound?”

“I’m free for lunch.”

“Lunch it is. Do you like picnics?”

“I love picnics.”

You both stand there for a bit, neither of you saying anything, just staring at each other. You take in Steve’s mussed up hair, the happy look in his eyes, the soft grin playing on his lips. You can only imagine how you look right now, your hair tangled and eyes still sleepy, probably smiling at him like a fool. 

“I should go,” he says after a few minutes, breaking the silence.

“Yeah, probably,” you say.

“Bye.”

You press a kiss to his cheek. “I’ll see you at work.”

He laughs softly. “See you at work.”

Fun Fact about yourself? one of my special interests is music! almost everything I write comes with its own playlist and a bunch of references XD

How long have you been writing fanfiction? I started writing fic in 2017 but I've been pretty off and on about it until this past august when i started writing for sdv.

Favourite SDV character to write? Sam! I love him so so SO much. he's a lot more complex than people make him out to be and I have yet to write something he doesn't at least cameo in. Haley's a close second though. I just adore writing dialogue for her!!!

Favourite tropes/genre to write? I fear I am the king of slow burns. the first ever fic I wrote for sdv was a slow burn (no kiss for 130k words!) and I'm still working on it! generally speaking though I'm a sucker for slice of life things and surprisingly really enjoy supernatural and low fantasy themes :3

Your most popular SDV fanfic? late dawns, early sunsets!!! it's a sambastian zombie apocalypse au short story and genuinely one of my favorite things I've ever written.

Your SDV underdog fic you wish more people would give a chance? I don't have a ton of sdv fics but I would love for more people to check out either of my samalex fics!!! (you need guy friends and it's just admiration, trust) I really love that pairing and I honestly need more people so see the vision XD

Hear me out: Sam is fifth wave/midwest emo coded and if I absolutely had to pick an artist Goblin Destroyer would sound like it would be Origami Angel. listen to literally any song and tell me Sam wouldn't write lyrics just like they do.

Lastly, any other fandoms you write for? not currently, no!

Ehh..

Ok. Seriously- even if Snape wasn’t a spy for the order or even a death eater to begin with, and just a guy with unresolved traumatic issues in his childhood- why would he be expected to be nice to Harry?

I MEAN. Harry literally took one look at Snape (and Quirrell) in the great hall, felt his scar burn and immediately decided it was Snape’s fault. He didn’t consider that maybe it was another teacher or maybe a student next to him. He immediately thought that Severus Snape was the reason for his scar hurting. There was no evidence to really support that theory other than the burning of the scar.

Not only that- but this student (Harry) repeatedly got in trouble, sassed Sev/talked back, and when Harry did learn that it was really Quirrell that was the one trying to steal the stone and SEVERUS WAS LITERALLY HELPING HIM THE ENTIRE TIME FROM QUIRRELL HIMSELF- he still decided to have that unfair bias towards him.

PLUS, Harry acted similarly to that of James at times (from Sev’s perspective). Strutting around the school as one example- he was also treated similarly to James by the other staff. He’d get in trouble but he wouldn’t receive that bad of a punishment just detentions and he was even rewarded house points.. and not to mention McGonagall breaking the rule of first years not being allowed their own broom for Harry..

Harry also looked very similar to James (his father, for those that don’t know) which was likely a HUGE trigger since James not only Bullied Severus as a child but stalked, harassed, SA’D/S*xually harassed, and almost murdered him. Then there’s the fact that he also had his mother’s eyes, Lily Evans, who was a childhood friend of Sev. One of his only friends until he lost her, twice. Harry looked at Sev all the time with contempt and disdain. He basically hated the man from day one when he originally saw him in the great hall. He had lily’s eyes. Those eyes were the ones staring at Snape with hatred. Everyday. Until Harry finally realized how messed up that actually was in the end.

So yeah. Excuse me, but I don’t see any reason for Sev to even want to be nice to a kid like that. There isn’t any reason to be- especially when he’s dealing with 11-18 year olds on a daily basis, all day. They all have different maturity levels and being a teacher and teaching one grade of students is already hard enough. Imagine teaching multiple grades???? Oh and then there’s the fact he was risking his life for 14+ years (probably closer to 20+ honestly) with barely any actual recognition or appreciation. He was a spy for so long and he had no one. Everyone hated him and for what? Because he was strict? So were the other staff members.

Plus if we also take into account the other aspects of teaching instead of just the actual teaching- that is a lot more work as well. There’s planning assignments, watching over the students, grading assignments and much more- and being a professor you’re always learning the new information that comes in on the subject(s) you’re teaching. There’s also staff meetings. He also had order meetings and death eater meetings. There’s also stocking his potions store, doing detention shifts. We also see that he helps patrol school grounds after curfew so there’s that as well. This man has so many jobs and you expect him to be nice to some bratty 11 year old that immediately decided he was bad? Like what?

And this man is autistic coded (he was based off an autistic man so the likelihood he is autistic is pretty high and practically canon I’d say but that’s my own opinion and a topic for another time) OH and he is canonically extremely traumatized with zero support system and we all know prolonged childhood trauma causes multiple different kinds of disorders that will never go away (but can have symptoms lessened through therapy, which was not made available for Sev.) AND NOT TO MENTION A TEACHERS SALARY IS HORRID. This man does not get payed nearly enough to deal with Hogwarts students, order members, death eaters and the other Hogwarts staff.

GIVE SEV A BREAK ALREADY.

So, fun fact for everyone! Our beloved Lili (@setgriefaside) Ducky, contributor and beta tester, has timed everything we have to far, from prologue, through the origins and all the way to where we are at with Chapter 1!

1 hour and 15 minutes! Honestly, a huge surprise to me, I always think it's at 20 minutes.

And while usually word count would be a good indicator of how long something written is, since the game has HUGE chunks of code, it would be less precise here. But oh well, I'm proud, so I'm really happy to say that we're over 62k words so far, along with 244 passages! WOO! I promise I'll get back to asks, I'm finishing up commissions for my other blog and poll writing for patreon first!

If I go higher than that, I worried Tumblr will get too laggy and I won't be able to edit the chapter with italics and bold like I usually do. I'll also be making a main masterlist soon once I've written some more one-shots. I'll try to work on them in-between ToF and maybe post them during the week, I just got a little too excited today and posted my one-shot instead of waiting until the week 😭 but I have a three day weekend so I'll be able to probably write more in ToF and push past chapter 20!

Masterlist

The little girl leads you to a quaint seeming casino, graffiti covering the buildings next to it and its name shone in multicolour neon lights, “Elysium”. Once you step inside, you notice its lavishly decorated from the red leather chairs that surround a poker table to the fancy lamps and expensive looking art that adorn the walls. “Auntie, an outsider- I mean, a really nice lady is here to buy something!” The kid eagerly skips toward a young woman who was hunched over behind the bar. Under the dim, yellow light, you notice she was fiddling with some cards.

“What do you want?” The woman asks, not even bothering to look up at you. Seems like she didn’t believe you were worth her attention so far. “A list of people who are attending Onychinus’ protocore auction and a map of the venue. How much?” You ask as you walk toward the counter, ruffling the little girl’s head as you step past her. This finally makes the woman face you, and she looks you up and down with interest, then makes a gesture with her hand, “Fifty thousand.” Yeesh. Expensive much? “Just for two pieces of intel?” You question with a raised brow as you sit down at the bar. She wags her finger as she tilts her head to the side, “Fifty thousand per word.”

“I..” You trail off, unsure if it's even worth it at this point. “Since you’re new and pretty, I’ll give you a 5% discount. What do you think?” The lady offers before the little girl speaks up, “Make it 10%.” When the lady looks at her in confusion, the little girl smiles up at her, “She bought a flower for five more than I asked for. Please, auntie?” “Thanks, sweetie.” You look back down at the little girl, petting her head once more, “She’s really sweet. Is she your…?” The woman sighs and shakes her head, “An orphan we’re watching over. Any other questions will require a payment.” “Even if it’s your names?” You know fraternizing won’t be enough to get an even bigger deal, but you’d still like to know their names. They don’t seem like bad people. “Just call me Violet and her Lily.” She says and you assume its code names. Or maybe not. More flowers though. You wonder what the N109 Zone’s obsession with flowers is. Violet meant watchfulness, and Lily meant innocent and pure.

After this, Violet glances over at the door to her right, sighing before she pushes it open. You could hear chatter mixed with the sound of rolling dice, spinning roulettes, and card shufflers. “You also going to Solon Hotel tomorrow? Do you have an auction invitation?” You can hear a female customer say, and then you hear a male customer reply, “Doesn’t matter if I get one or not. For something as big as this, you gotta try and get a piece of the pie, right? I heard there’s going to be a treasure. Haven’t you heard? While he was away, big changes happened in their ranks…” You’re unsure if you should be hearing this since you’re not exactly paying for it, but that does explain why it seemed like no one lived in that house you were in for a really long time. You strain your ears to listen to more of their conversation, but that’s when Violet closes the door.

“Did you hear them? Now, you should understand why “these two pieces of intel” are so expensive. I’m sorry, kid. I can’t just give this kind of information away for dirt cheap, especially when it’s about one of the N109 Zone’s big shots.” “What if I want information about Onychinus?” You ask nonchalantly and she freezes for a moment before leaning in the whisper in your ear, “Missy, don’t pry into things you shouldn’t know. I still got business to take care of .” You let out a sigh and nod your head, “Alright, I understand. Thanks for letting me know, Violet.” It makes sense. If she tells you something too secret, then it could lead to her losing her job or even her life. You can’t fault her for trying to be careful. You turn back to Lily, playing around with her for a bit as you listen in on the other customers' conversations.

“...Sylus hasn’t been around for a long time. Do you think he really went missing?” One man asks and the other shrugs, “Maybe he’s dead. Didn’t you see how arrogant Sherman’s punks have been lately? If Sylus was with Onychinus, they wouldn’t even dare to be so bold.”

You rest your chin on your palm, listening to the rumble of the spinning roulette and then the sound of cheers and screams. Someone must’ve won big, it seems. You sip on the drink you got from Violet at the bar, trying to appear like a normal patron as you eavesdrop on the conversations happening all around you. It seems Onychinus has been having some internal issues lately…and if Sylus hasn’t been seen around lately, how come you’ve seen so much of him? Recalling his pompous and contemptuous face has you chuckling to yourself. You can’t believe you almost miss him. If he had died, he would’ve dragged the entire N109 Zone down to hell with him. That’s just how he is.

“Miss, I have another flower. It’s for you!” You hear Lily’s voice before you see her. “Oh sweetie…” You hold back a pout of endearment as you notice how she’s on her tiptoes, trying to lean against the bar to reach you. She holds a black flower in both of her tiny hands, a black Calla lily, which was a symbol of rebirth and the beginning of a transformative journey. A fitting flower indeed. You take the flower from her, putting it behind your other ear, and smile at her, “Do I need to pay you for this one too?” “Nope! I gave it to you just because I wanted to.” She giggles before you decide to ask a few questions, “Did you grow up here? Does everyone know Sylus?” “Oh yeah! He’s a monster with huge wings that never dies. And- And, he has horns! If I don’t listen to Auntie, Sylus will find me and feed me to his man eating birdie.” The way Lily spoke was so animated, it was almost cute. She seems like just a regular child despite growing up in the N109 Zone.

It seems like everyone is afraid of Sylus and yet, they keep trying to make deals with him. Kind of like how people are afraid of demons but still try to make deals with them in movies…Though, Sylus did take the initiative to propose a deal with you. Maybe your evol can be used as a valuable tool against him- at least to guarantee your survival. You’re suddenly ripped from your thoughts as the familiar sound of gunfire fills the once cheery, lively room. You flinch, immediately moving your hands to cover Lily’s ears rather than your own. You quickly turn your head toward the entrance of the casino. “We got a party tonight.” One of the men rasps out, gun muzzle billowing out smoke. The door, which they kicked down, falls to the ground with a loud thud, the bolts on it useless and broken as a pair of leather boots steps on top of the wooden door. “Don’t be nervous. Onychinus’ important guest got lost. I’d like to ask everyone to cooperate with our search.” You can quickly notice that this man isn’t working with Sylus- even if this man is from Onychinus. He seems much like a snake, his voice dripping with venom.

Another person with a pair of sunglasses walks in. He’s flanked by half a dozen gun-toting men dressed in black. The sound of guns being loaded with bullets can be heard before you hear the guns being cocked as if threatening the patrons to try anything stupid. “Block the door and search the room. Everyone’s about to be entertained.” The same man, let's call him Snake for the sake of telling them all apart, says.

Gunfire and the sound of tables and chairs getting knocked over intermingle with N109 Zone slang that you don’t understand. In the hidden utility room, you hug Lily tightly as you look out the secret window that’s facing the lobby. “Ooh, there’s so many people. Today’s a good day for bus- mmph!” You quickly cover Lily’s mouth with a panicked whisper, “Do you have a death wish? Hide and don’t speak.” You add a “please” shortly after that, feeling like you’re being a tad bit harsh but it seems like she doesn’t even realize the danger you’re both in at the moment. The lobby floor is soaked in blood, and the mice hiding under the floorboards scamper away in fear. How you wished you were a mouse right now. Whistling, Snake casually strolls over to the bar, rings the bell, and then shoves a photo in front of Violet.

“I suggest you bring out our guest. Mr. Sherman’s not going to sit around and leave her unattended.” He says to her and one of your hands clenches into a fist, wanting to just give yourself up to protect the two people you had just met but you pause for a moment to think logically. Sylus is the leader of Onychinus, so why were these people acting as if Mr. Sherman was the leader instead? This Sherman guy doesn’t seem like shit, considering he didn’t even come out to get his ‘guest’, unlike how Sylus came to personally get you. “I’m sorry, she’s not here. I’d remember a pretty face if she actually showed up.” You can see Violet shrug from the secret window and now you’re starting to feel really bad. Even if she’s protecting you with a motive in mind, you still wanted to keep her and Lily safe. “Gonna keep your mouth shut? Fine.” Snake scoffs and turns to face his comrades. His broken, wire-bound jaw opens as he lets out a hoarse cackle, “Pry open their mouths one at a time. Someone will spill the beans sooner or later.”

“Missy, they’re looking for you, right?” Violet whispers, knowing that you and Lily were hiding in the secret room. “Are you going to hand me over to them?” You ask with baited breath, really hoping she wouldn’t just give you up. You tried to sound calm but inside, your thoughts were racing. All of this had almost made you completely forget that you were in a game; well, this was your life now, apparently, and you were in danger from here on out. Your free hand tightly clutches the tranquilizer in your sleeve, ready to stab Snake with it and pretend that it was a poison and you had the antidote for it as long as they let you go. That being said, you haven’t tested this thing that Xavier claimed could “paralyze an elephant” since there were no zoos in the N109 Zone…”Anyone who’s Onychinus’ target is valuable. I can get a better price if I find the right person,” Violet finally responds to you with a small shrug. A smile tugs at your lips as you shake your head, unsure if she was saying this as a front or if that was her true feelings.”Stay where you are. I don’t want to hand you over like this.” Violet says, firm on her decision to not give you up. Either way, even if she sold you to someone else, you wouldn’t be upset with her. You realize this is how people survive in the N109 Zone.

Suddenly, a crow soars in and dives toward the search party’s leader, its razor-sharp wings aimed at him. “What is that!?” You hear Snake yell out and you take this as your chance to escape- be it a dumb idea but still, it’s worth a shot. You roll and crawl out of the utility room. As you try to sneak away quietly, someone yanks you by the collar of your shirt. You panic, trying to scramble away from the person and you turn around to aim your gun.

Though you pause, noticing a familiar face in the shadows, his chin slightly raised. “So when someone saves you, do you always point your gun at them to express your gratitude?” Sylus. Several bullets grazed him only to dissipate into dust. The people who fired the shots are promptly strangled by something and they slump to the ground, dead. “Your underlings aren’t exactly obedient..” You comment, suddenly being reminded of the fact that this Mr. Sherman guy thinks he’s the leader of Onychinus for some reason. Sylu’s mouth twitches at your mockery as if he wants to say something but in the end, he just purses his lips, “Focus on yourself first.” At the sound of Sylus’ voice, Snake suddenly begins to panic and tries to leave, but a cloud of energy particles gathers around him…Several wanderers quickly materialize. Roaring, they rush straight for us.

“Are they calling for backup because they can’t win? How is this not cheating?” You scoff, brows knitted together in annoyance before Sylus grabs your wrist and holds you in his arms. “What-” He slides his finger over the trigger of your gun, aiming the weapon at the figure in the center of the room. “Do you expect people from the N109 Zone to be nice and polite?” Actually…Yes, yes you do. Violet and Lily were nice enough. “I see you made a few friends while I was gone,” Sylus comments, noticing the two different flowers tucked behind either of your ears and plucks the forget-me-not, rolling the stem between his two fingers. He tucks the flower behind his ear with a small murmur under his breath, “A fitting flower..” But before you can have a chance to ask what he means, Sylus swings your body around, taking shots at every wanderer charging toward you both.

The room is a complete mess with broken objects and overturned tables and chairs strewn about. Wanderers keep appearing one after another and you fall back to the window, thinking about how likely you both could make a run for it. “We can’t wipe them out…Our only option is to retreat,” You say between breaths as you try to get your breathing under control. “Do you really believe “retreat” is a word in my dictionary?” Sylus asks with a raised brow. While you’re anxious and tired, Sylus is infuriatingly calm and smug. “Ohhh, so you like being a freeloader, Mr. Sylus?” You raise a brow, waving your gun around with an annoyed sigh, “Didn’t you see me fighting for my life earlier?”

“Since when was I required to investigate the files the Hunters Association had on you?” The white haired man looks down at his hand to pick at imaginary dust under his nails before continuing, “Consider this training practice. Get ready.” Sylus ignores your protests and grabs your hand to aim your gun at the switch box on the wall. “You won’t get any help.”

A gun is fired and the lights go out. Then, Sylus quickly vanishes. You stand there for a moment in silence, blinking a few times before you realize you’ve been left behind again. Curses spill from your lips and you run a hand through your hair. “Are you fucking serious?” You groan under your breath and suddenly you hear Sylus’ voice once more. “Let’s make a deal.” You suddenly turn around and notice he’s behind you once more. “Aren’t you going to leave? I can’t resonate with you.” You were getting more annoyed by the second, but Sylus continues, “If you’d like to attend the auction tomorrow, stand your ground for five minutes.” He steps closer to you, leaning his head down to whisper in your head, “And should you have the audacity to die on me-” He lifts his hand and puts a communicator in your ear. Then he speaks in a surprisingly gentle tone, “You actually will meet your end.”

It's really short today, especially considering I just wrote 12k for a one-shot, but what can ya do 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'll more than likely post chapter twelve way later on today or even tomorrow...and I also might post chapter thirteen. I'm not very good at keeping a strict schedule. I like to be spontaneous 😎 ...sometimes. but yeah, more flower language. The black Calla Lilly was a big game changer since it's meaning actually fits mc in every way, shape, and form. It's honestly insane.

I also gave the shopkeeper and her charge names since I didn't want to write "she" and it get confusing. That's also why I specifically named Snake. But also! I named the two after flowers, because I read a manwha where there was a group of sex workers all named after flowers and they had a little girl with them who was also named after a flower. Their village was being raided and they all protected the little girl until they died, and the little girl was taken in the be a fake crown princess– but yeah, basically I thought flower code names and run-down, shady areas go well together!

I’ve always hated how the Weasleys and Ginny just don’t exist in Potter children names, even though they are the only family that Harry has known.

Personally I think that in his 20s Harry would have to be extremely critical of Dumbledore, and would also try to distant himself and his children from all the deaths.

But yeah, I feel like Fred is a name that George could have given to Harry and Ginny, because I feel like he would have felt weird about using it himself (although Rowling’s thoughts on George are bizzare, he marries his brothers ex girlfriend which is like. No), and he and Fred adored both Harry and Ginny. But I bet Bill’s child would have been named Frederick William Weasley. I think his son is older than James Potter Jr.

So Frederick Harry Potter is - yes.

But Weasleys and Potters seem to use a lot of muggle royalty names. Weasleys are more mythological - so everything is very arthurian, and Potters are more contemporary: Harry, James, there is a Charlus in the line. Fleamont is an outlier and even then - Monty. A very posh muggle name.

Idk, why not Richard, Joanne? Why not Margaret? Vivian? Gawain? Maybe dare I say Evan!!! Because Fleamont was a surname!! Ugh I hate her naming choices so so much and by the way we know she is good at naming!! Joanne WHAT in Renesmee was that????

Right??? She is usually really good at this sort of thing. Idk maybe we're supposed to read Harry's kids names as thematic or symbolic (which also doesn't really work, but whatever.) Or she wrote the epilogue after Book 4, which is why everyone still has Book 4 levels of characterization?

In addition to yours (which I like) Harry might also want to consider:

Ariana (tbh I think Albus would be deeply uncomfortable with a child named after him, but would feel much better about a child named after his sister.)

Godric

Wulfric (also a stealth Dumbledore name, and 'Wolf Potter' brings in a little of that Remus + Werewolf angle)

Elaine (gets that Arthurian connection in there, and sounds enough like 'Eileen' that it can be a stealth way to honor the Prince family, if Harry wants to do that. Also she's the "Lily Maid" of Astolat.)

Guinevere (would be Gwennie or Jenny for short, and "Ginny and Jenny" is adorable)

idk Ginny names her pygmy puff Arnold. Maybe she'd like a super anglo name like Albert, Herbert, Stanley, or Barney (which are also possibly weasley-coded names, if Harry's alias is 'Cousin Barney'?)

Marauders Christmas Shopping Headcanons

So this is low-key inspired by my friend and I Christmas shopping the other day. We always joke that we're very James and Remus coded haha. Let me know any other ideas you have for this! Also if you'd like me to make more headcanons.

I feel like James is quite a chaotic person in general and I imagine Christmas shopping would be no exception.

One of James' main love languages is gifts and he loves buying things for people so this is his favourite Christmas tradition.

He rocks up to the shopping center with absolutely no plan, just vibes.

He's the kind of person to just follow his heart when it comes to presents and somehow he never misses. He just looks around until he finds something he thinks the person will like and makes an impulse purchase.

He probably gets distracted looking at something he wants for himself in the process.

Makes his friends wait while he tries on a bunch of clothes.

"James, you don't need to by that. It's literally about to be Christmas." "But Remus it's so cool!"

He's the kind of person who would think he found the perfect gift for someone but then see something else he thinks they'll like and just have to buy that for them as well.

Ends up buying like 4 presents for each person.

Thank god he has money.

Remus I feel is the polar opposite of that.

He's extremely thoughtful and probably plans out what he wants to get everyone in advance.

I feel like he'd probably even make notes throughout the year of things his friends and family mention they like/want so he can reference it later.

He's very methodical about his shopping. He knows exactly what shops he wants to visit and what he's going going to purchase.

He probably has a well-thought out budget as well as to what he's willing to spend on each gift.

He's a quick and efficient sort of guy and ends up getting all of his gifts in the first hour of the trip.

He then spends the rest of the time being dragged around by his friends (particularly James).

Unfortunately I don't think Sirius would be particularly into Christmas.

Because of everything with his family, it's never been a very nice time of year for him (until he went to live with James, that is.)

It wasn't until then that Sirius actually started enjoying the holidays.

So he's very new to the whole happy, wholesome Christmas thing.

He pretends to be annoyed about having to buy things for people but secretly he enjoys it.

He's a complete show off with presents. He always buys ridiculously expensive gifts for people and pretends it's nothing.

"Do you think she'd like that?" *points to a 24k gold, diamond necklace*

He'd get really bored after a couple of hours and start to complain, like how little kids do when their Mum drags them along for shopping.

He has absolutely no patience whatsoever.

He'd probably need to go on several trips before all his shopping is done.

He would just end up flirting with all the retail workers by the end of it.

He and James would probably do something stupid like knocking over a display or something and end up getting kicked out of the mall.

(Additionally, I feel like when Harry is born, he'd always spoil him on Christmas and Birthdays with insanely expensive presents from "Uncle Padfoot" that James and Lily would scold him for.)

Peter is an overthinker to his core.

I think Christmas shopping would stress him out.

He wants to get everyone the perfect present but he can't make up his mind about what he should by.

Probably makes the group go back to the same shops multiple times because he can't decide if he should buy that item he saw in there or not.

(Something all the boys would moan about)

Stares at an item for like 20 minutes umming and ahing over whether or not to get it for someone.

Remus and James try to help him decide but give him completely opposing advice which just confuses him more.

Remus: Do you remember them mentioning that they'd like something like that? Did you get them to write you a Christmas list?

James: None of that matters. Just go with your gut. When you see the right thing, you'll know.

Peter: aaaaaahhhh.

Finally buys something but then changes his mind 10 minutes later and returns it.

He'd end up leaving the trip with nothing and would have to come back and try again another day.

Lily, I imagine would be a very practical gift giver.

She and James would balance each other out because while James buys a lot of really fun, thoughtful gifts for people, Lily would buy them stuff they actually need.

She has go-to shops she visits every year.

She's been known to buy people things like household appliances, dishware, pieces of clothing or new sporting equipment (particularly for James.)

Everything she buys is really really good quality.

Although it's slightly less exciting than some might think, it's always very personalized and thoughtful.

I feel like Mary loves making people homemade presents.

That or she does something really personal like framing a picture of their friend group or making a scrapbook.

She's very sentimental and her gifts are as well.

I feel like she probably crochets things for people for some reason.

Marlene without fail, buys every single one of her friends a joke present.

She also probably cracks up laughing at their expression when they open it.

James always loves it.

One year she bought him an apron that said "May I suggest the sausage?" and he unironically wore it every time he was in the kitchen (much to Lily's dismay).

Watched Nick Apostolides play Separate Ways and wrote down stuff that caught my attention.

Guests on the stream: Craig (Wesker’s VA) & Andre (Luis’ VA). Andre joins for a short while mid-way through the stream.

- Nick was there when he watched Andre film the cutscene of Luis doing the flamenco. Apparently Andre nailed it in one take.

- Nick says Andre spent months researching the Spanish culture. (Andre talks a little bit more about it later.)

- Craig went to Vancouver three times in 2022 to film RE4R & SW. The main game & DLC were shot together. He couldn’t say he went to Vancouver more than once or else he would give away that there were extra content like SW & Mercenaries.

- Nick was not aware how Ada got infected.

- Craig played RE5 co-op years ago and is trying to play it solo but acknowledged it’s not that fun to play solo.

- Craig’s download for SW took 7 minutes and he was very amused by that.

- Craig can only talk about games that have come out so don’t ask him if there’s gonna be a remake for CV or RE5.

- Craig was not aware who or what he was auditioning for and only knew he was playing Wesker when he was flown to the studio. He asked them if he should play Wesker like previous incarnations or like what he did in his audition. They told him to play Wesker like his audition.

- Craig said when he filmed for RE: Outbreak 20 years ago, the actors only saw stick figures on the screen but now, as you stand in front of the mocap cameras, you can see your entire character model on the screen rightaway and he’s quite impressed how far technology has advanced.

- Craig said he did mocap for Outbreak for 6 months. He did not book a part in Outbreak initially but Alyson Court (Claire’s original VA) actually brought him to work on the game.

- Craig filmed all his scenes together with Lily and only saw Nick 3 times during filming since Wesker & Leon don’t have any scenes together.

- Craig has been a fan of RE for a long time. He played RE1 with his acting classmates and they were happy for him when he booked a part in Outbreak.

- Craig says he has never gotten a copy of any game he has worked on as the people he works with don’t work in game distribution. He only managed to get a copy of the RE4R deluxe edition thanks to an ex-girlfriend who works in game distribution.

- Craig & Nick know both Wesker & Leon are very beloved characters in the franchise and have given it their all for their portrayals.

- Both of them squeed when Wesker says “complete local saturation” and Craig has been waiting for a whole year wondering how fans would react to that line.

- Nick had no idea what would happen in SW since he didn’t get the script for it.

- Craig also had no idea Wesker would be in Mercenaries but put two and two together when he recorded lines for Merc.

- Scenes are filmed out of order. Craig didn’t know if he was filming for the main game or SW. He had to wait till the main game came out to see what scenes were shown in RE4R. Nick also has no idea if he filmed anything for SW.

- While the VAs have their own general idea on how to play their character as they walk into the studio, how they express their lines are based on a combination of what’s requested by Capcom’s Japanese team, how the translator translates Capcom’s requests, and Steve Kniebihly’s (cinematics director) direction.

- Someone asked Craig if he thought when Wesker was a child, would he shine a magnifying glass on ants. Craig said probably yeah and maybe pulling the wings of flies too. (Side note: The Ashford twins did that in Code Veronica)

- Craig was a musician first before he got into acting. In high school, everyone was into music and he made some music with his friends. His then-girlfriend asked him to audition in a school musical and he loved the acting expect of it. He then auditioned in plays before he went to acting school for college.

- Craig applied to both music & acting programmes for college. He always wanted to be a performer.

- Andre joins halfway through the stream. He enjoyed filming the opening flamenco scene even though it took a while to get the steps right. He doesn’t think he can do the dance any more since it’s been a while.

- Andre mimed the reaction to being pulled by a rope in chapter 1. He didn’t have confidence to pull it off and the team also agreed. He doesn’t have stunt training anyway.

- Craig on the other hand, recounted when he was filming being grabbed by a monster for RE Outbreak. He had a rope on his head while filming for that and he didn’t get stunt pay. But things were different years ago.

- Andre said the team took safety really seriously and even for simple things like pretending to fall over, Steve Kniebihly would tell the VAs not to do it and let the stunt team do it instead.

- When Craig auditioned for Wesker, the description was “Villain in a video game”. That was it. All the audition scripts were fake so actors who don’t book the part won’t leak that the game is being made.

- Andre lived & breathed Castellan Spanish culture for months while he filmed RE4R and it drove his family a little crazy. He even spoke with a Castellan Spanish accent for a while too. His family is of Mexican descent and Mexican Spanish pronunciation is different from European/Castellan Spanish.

- Nick was friends with Paul Haddad (OG RE2 Leon VA) before he passed away. He also took some voice lessons from Paul Mercier (OG RE4 Leon VA).

- Craig has not spoken to any previous Wesker VAs. He is long time friends with Alyson and she was his director on one project he worked in before. He has met OG Brad Vicker’s VA before.

- Andre has only met Neil Newbon (RE8 Heisenberg & RE3R Nikolai) in person.

- Craig enjoys playing bad guys since it’s fun to do something he can’t do in real life.

- Nick had to lower his voice for RE4R Leon since Leon in 2004 is a bit “sick of the same shit happening repeatedly” instead of being a newbie cop surprised at everything.

- Craig’s favourite scene to film was the Wesker & Ada confrontation at the beginning of the Island. He had to do the Wesker smirk at the end a few times as the team had to ensure it looked right on the Wesker model.

- Craig has a Guinness World Record for playing in the longest concert which lasted for 19 days, around 437 hours. He was in the planning committee for it and he played 5 times during the concert. To qualify for the record, there were a lot of rules. For example: at least 10 people in the audience had to be awake at all times, each song had to last at least 2 mins, and there can only be a maximum 30 seconds pause between each song.

- Nick got electrocuted in science class when he touched a capacitor with his bare hands. He mentioned that it really freaking hurt and it was almost impossible to let go. He had to force himself to open his hands.

- During the recording of the injury effort sounds for when Leon got electrocuted, Nick clenched his fists and shook them while grunting through gritted teeth.

- For Wesker’s injury effort sounds during Mercenaries mode, the team had to tell Craig to dial back as Wesker responds to injuries in a calmer manner.

- Nick had a lot of fun filming the part where Saddler transforms into his final form.

- Nick mocapped the pilot flying Ada’s chopper.

- Nick was completely mind blown by the stinger at the end.

honestly... maybe? I'm terrible at having roommates and I've lived alone for a decade BUT I could see her as someone who works crazy hours and has a reasonably high tolerance for mess. like I could imagine I wouldn't see her for a week while she spent every night in the lab but then we'd end up having breakfast together or randomly getting drunk and talking about politics or something on the sofa until midnight. I trust she'd be direct about her needs tbh which is the main thing I'd need. also she canonically likes cats which is important.
