you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.
#wwdits#nandor the relentless#Nandor#what we do in the shadows#i think its obvious by how much Nandor loves to read that he grew up educated#it's one of my favorite character traits of his#anyways#this was just your local psa abt the depth of Nandor's character and intelligence#and how the medieval islamic world was like - so much more advanced than it's western counterpart it's hilarious how ppl mischaracterize it#(by hilarious i mean it makes me want to break something)#this was in my drafts lolol what did i read that made me vent this? idk#also 'islamic world' is just a term some historians use to describe a specific geographical location and historical age#kind of how 'western world' is used today#it doesn't mean it's specific to one religion or nation but the broader time and location#meaning that Al Qolindar or Persia or Ilkhanate or w/e you want to call where Nandor came from#the same expectations of education and it's vibrant social/cultural world remain an accurate image of the middle east in the medieval age#if you come from the west like me#think The Forum + The Library of Alexandria + Paris/Florence + and idk anything else u think of when u think of 'Western Excellence'#and then imagine of all of that in one place at one time and then u might get close to what the world Nandor was living in as a human

Here are some moments when I closed my eyes and listened.
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Travel throughout the land and see how He originated the creation, then Allah will bring it into being one more time. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.

I'm so tired of "actually, having any sense of spirituality or belief in the spiritual makes you unintelligent" rhetoric. like are you my evangelical father? because you sound just like him
#mad scrawl#going after tarot especially is wild#considering even if it is just psychological#oh noooooo I'm using symbols and archetypes we've resonated with for many years to dig into my subconscious and analyze my reality....#oh nooooo I'm becoming more self aware GET SCARED#like ?????????????????????????????????#if you're absolutist about that shit#or like weirdly essentialist about it then yeah that's cringe and is giving pseudoscience#but to act like interacting w it at all makes you stupid#just. wow! do you have any more edgy athiest takes to share with the class?#are you gonna call the christian god sky daddy now?#are you gonna conflate christianity with judaism and islam?#are you going to say some racist-ass shit about closed spiritual practices? probably. ppl who respect shit don't act like this is all im sa

I appreciate the inclusion of this line and the scene at the beginning bc I feel like it's easy for the audience to forget that unconventional and rebellious saira is also Muslim and does pray, both with the rest of the band and on her own
#and that nida manzoor put such effort into showing the variety of relationships these women have to Islam and to prayer and to modesty wear#like I don't think momtaz was praying in that ep1 scene with the rest of them but she speaks very openly about feeling close to god#amina has never been shown praying and maybe doesn't even go to a mosque#and ayesha and amina wear hijabs but saira doesn't and doesn't dress particularly modestly either compared to amina#and ayesha wears big dramatic makeup and amina is pursuing a doctorate while bisma works only on her household and her art#which IS work obviously but it's not a 9 to 5 and her husband is the breadwinner#and several of them do drugs#like there is no one type of way to be a Muslim woman. it really does depend on the individual's personal preferences and situation#and obviously it's a bit sad that this even needed to be said but this show is so good at saying it#walp lb

hazbin hotel feels like whenever the most annoying athiest you know tries to #epicallypwn a Christian by making the most base level critique that rests on a fundamental misunderstanding of what Christians ideology actually entails. and then if they made a really mediocre adult cartoon about what an epic pwn it was.
#the entire argument hazbin attempts to make rests on a premise that is already a very robust argument within Christian communities#non-christians will meet a few nutso fundies and assume they understand what christianity is which is WILD.#like. i am not muslim i have not read the quran i do not closely know any muslims#hence why im not MAKING ARGUMENTS ABOUT WHAT MUHAMMAD ACTUALLY MEANT BASED OFF MY VERY BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF HIS TEACHINGS#and i get that christianity definitely doesnt have AS robust a library in this tradition as islam or judaism#but come ON. like one google search wouldve helped this show be good#to be clear i loved the show deeply obsessed with it i cant stop thinking about it. but it also is genuinely Bad and Not Good.#hazbin hotel critique

i’ve had a pretty bad evening but it’s okay because i ended up finding a life-changing book at the library a few hours ago and i’m already almost finished with it, feels good to actually read bc i so rarely have time/motivation for it these days
#hijab butch blues#such a beautiful book#i love queer desi literature i need to actively seek it out more often#bc there’s another book that altered my life a couple years ago called the love and lies of rukhsana ali#both books focus on islam queer intersection which is not completely relatable to me but still hits pretty close to home#that feeling of grappling with separate parts of your identity race/culture vs queer/trans and not feeling confident in either#there is just a lottttt of shame/guilt involved and this book is really hitting all that#i hope someday i can meet someone who is confident and proud of being desi and being queer#bc that happened in this book and it’s really sweet#i’m gonna be thinking about this book for so long i think i have to buy it#and the other one i mentioned bc i still think about it often and borrowed it again a while back to reread and be emotional abt

A lot of the people who go hard against Christianity and Christ are people who have been traumatized by legalist parents or legalist-adjacent parents. Because of the deep wound that was emotionally (sometimes physically and even sexually) inflicted upon them, they wholeheartedly believe their experience is universal for every single person who has been raised a Christian or eventually became a Christian.
#christianity#legalism#txt#that's why they will also say that christianity and islam have “no” difference between each other and it's like... no#legalist and mormon cultures are extremely similar to islamist culture because islamist culture is an extremist culture#so yeah because legalism and mormonism are extreme ofc the differences are minimal#but regular christianity is not even close being like that

Have you ever heard of something called soul contract? In the previous world Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) told us that our souls met one another. He said when you get along with someone that means your soul met them in the realm of the unseen.
Not getting along means, you haven't met previously. In that realm a lot took place - that Allah explains in the Quran.
Today I want to share what a soul contract means. There are three kinds of people you will meet in your life:
1. your soul mate (could be a family member, relative, friend, or lover), your twin flame, and your karmic mate. A soul mate is someone that you truly love and get along with, sometimes the connection lasts & sometimes it doesn't.
2. A twin flame is someone you love but they appear in your life for a short period. They hold a mirror to your soul, revealing things about yourself that you overlooked.
3. A karmic mate, comes into your life so that you make corrections in your life - this connection is very toxic, you go through hell with them & it is to fix your traumas and triggers.
[These connections happen because before this world we made a soul contract with certain people.] In the previous world, your soul probably knew it needed to acquire the virtue of patience. Another soul promised to appear in your life to give you "hell" so that you learn to be more patient, forbearing, or emotionally strong. Once the contract expires your journey with them in this world ends. You are left with lessons that you carry with you for the rest of your life.
These lessons prepare you for the people who are meant to remain in your life - until eternity.
Knowing this teaches us not to take things personally. To be self aware of what reason and purpose a person may serve in our life, to see things with more understanding & compassion.
It allows us to let go of those who choose to walk away. And to not feel entitled to other peoples time and energy. If their time in your life expires it's always for the best. If one door closes, then another will open. Don't stand in front of that door waiting for it to open. Be sure that Allāh will always have your back.
#i needed to hear this myself#i feel like im standing in my own way#not letting that door close#letting go is extremely hard#i think i met my twin flame/soulmate#the connection didnt last#i dont want to knock on doors that arent meant for me anymore#im so done#islam#allah#love#soulmates#soul contract

Modest Style with Butterfly Abayas
Hey there fashionistas!
Are you ready to spread your wings and soar into the world of modest fashion? Introducing butterfly abayas—the ultimate blend of style, comfort, and ease. These stunning pieces are not only incredibly chic but also oh-so-comfy, making them the perfect choice for fashion-forward individuals who want to look and feel fabulous all day long.
Let's talk about comfort, shall we? Butterfly abayas are like a warm hug for your body. With their relaxed fit and flowy silhouette, they allow you to move with ease and grace, whether you're running errands, attending a casual gathering, or simply lounging at home. Say goodbye to restrictive clothing and hello to all-day comfort!
But here's the best part: butterfly abayas are incredibly versatile. Take, for example, the colour Desert Tan. This earthy hue goes with everything, making it the perfect choice for those days when you just can't decide what to wear. Whether you're pairing it with denim for a casual daytime look or dressing it up with heels and statement jewellery for a night out on the town, Desert Tan butterfly abayas are guaranteed to elevate your style game.
What I love most about butterfly abayas is their effortless elegance. With their draped sleeves and flowing lines, they exude a sense of ethereal beauty that's simply mesmerizing. Plus, they're incredibly flattering on all body types, making them a wardrobe staple that every fashionista should have in her closet.
So, whether you're a seasoned modest dresser or just dipping your toes into the world of butterfly abayas, now is the perfect time to spread your wings and embrace the beauty of comfort and versatility. Trust me, once you slip into a butterfly abaya, you'll never want to take it off!
Until next time, fly away in style, lovelies!
XOXO

Wishing every Jewish and Muslim person extra safety this Christmas. Given the rise in both antisemitism and islamophobia since Oct. 7th and the atrocities happening in Palestine, I have no doubt bad actors (of whom I’d bet will be disproportionately Christian at least culturally) across the board will use that to enact hate on vulnerable communities.
#Also while I’m at it it’s up those of us who are neither Jewish nor Muslim to stamp that shit out when we see it.#i’ve seen some things that come uncomfortably close to Christ killer libel#and I will not stand for that shit#i’ve also seen a lot of ‘muslims in palestine brought this on themselves for rehecting jesus’#which I will not stand for either#way to say yall know nothing about history judaism or islam smh#antisemitism#islamophobia#christmas#christianity#for mention#free palestine#genocide#gazagenocide#oct 7th#ethnic cleansing
