Israel’s military has transformed every bit of Gazan territory within about half a mile of the Israeli border into a wasteland. Armored bulldozers have systematically leveled one home after another. Combat engineers have laid explosives and triggered controlled demolitions inside once-bustling factories. Troops have torn up and denied Palestinians any access to the fertile farmland that once sustained lives and livelihoods. In its place, the Israeli military has established a roughly 1-kilometer-wide buffer zone (about 0.6 miles) from which it has banished Palestinians and killed or fired at those who do set foot within its unmarked perimeter – all of which it has never officially acknowledged. Now, in interviews with CNN and testimonials to an Israeli watchdog group, Israeli soldiers who were deployed to Gaza are revealing how the military carried out the destruction of civilian infrastructure to create the buffer area and the loose rules of engagement that have allegedly resulted in Israeli troops firing on and killing unarmed Palestinians. These testimonies reveal Israeli military practices that arguably violate international humanitarian law and, in some cases are war crimes, according to international law experts.

Further on in the article, which I do recommend reading in full, the watchdog group that whistleblowers have given their testimonials to is specified to be Breaking the Silence. Their webpage and social media features, among other things, collections of testimonials and news reports detailing, in their own words, "the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories" with the goal "to bring an end to the occupation." Definitely a useful resource to have in your pocket.

The suspect in the arson attack at the Governor’s Residence targeted Josh Shapiro due to his perceived stance on Palestine, according to a search warrant obtained by PennLive.

The suspect, Cody Balmer, called 911 following the attack early Sunday, identified himself by name and told operators Shapiro needs to know he “…will not take part in his plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people,” the search warrant written by police said.

Balmer continued, saying he needed to “stop having my friends killed” and that “...our people have been put through too much by that monster,” according to the warrant, which says Balmer’s intonation and cadence sounded like he was possibly reading from a script.

“You all know where to find me. I’m not hiding, and I will confess to everything that I had done,” the warrant says Balmer told 911 at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, less than an hour after the firebombing at the Governor’s Residence at 2035 Front St. in Harrisburg.
