Nothing will be more hilarious to me than the party's - specially Ben's - outrage about Alex's sneaky reference to William Shakespeare slowly fading as they remember that half of the NPCs are actually historical figures. Like they are genuinally going "what's this assassin's creed? You put Shakespeare in the gift Augusta Leight gave to our honorary party member Oscar Wilde while waiting for Ada Lovelace and Nikola Tesla to see if we can talk to the brain of Charles Babbage about the mission Albert Einstein teleported us to? Shakespeare a whole historical person? "

Allegory
Artist: Piero di Cosimo (Florentine, 1462-1522)
Date: c. 1500
Medium: Oil on panel
Collection: National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, United States
Overview
Best known for his portraits, altarpieces, and religious and mythological narratives, Piero di Cosimo created only one surviving allegory. In this painted personification of abstract concepts, a winged woman, largely nude despite her two layers of mantles secured by knots, extends a sprig of juniper and daintily holds a rearing stallion by a string. She has been convincingly identified as Chastity, who effortlessly contains the forces of Lust embodied by her virile steed. The figures occupy a rocky island adorned with barren trees, surrounded by a misty waterscape. The double-tailed mermaid who energetically parts the seas before them may be understood as a siren symbolizing the dangers of carnal passion.
In the Renaissance, recondite allegories such as this often adorned the covers and reverses of portraits, testifying to the virtues of their sitters. Piero’s panel may originally have decorated his likeness of Simonetta Vespucci in the guise of Cleopatra (Musée Condé, Chantilly). The work’s spare execution and delicate gray tonalities, punctuated by the brilliant red of the lady’s costume, would befit this secondary function. The evocative, even impressionistic atmosphere that envelops the figures is typical of Piero, whose powers of fantastic invention are matched by careful attention to the natural prospect.

i said this before but it bears repeating.
what i love the most about my current roomate and best friend is that she, more than anyone ive ever met, has the capacity to play along with whatever stupid joke i start playing into.
i will start doing a bit or throw some ironic comment and she will, on the spot, no hesitation, no questions asked, respond in character, taking the statement at face value. and myself, never one to let go an opportunity for horsing around, will start responding along and suddenly we are both trapped in a 30 minute long improv session where we will construct incredibly detailed characters and lore, never breaking character, both refusing to let the bit end.
i never met anyone who could, so presistently and so convincingly play into whatever scene we spin on the spot. she wont wink wink nudge nudge at the camera, she wont break character, she wont snicker or become self concious about it. in a complete deadpan she will become a completly different person with the minimum ammount of prodding necesary to the point that at times it becomes hard to tell if she's joking

Napoleon I on the Imperial Throne
Artist: Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres
Genre: Portrait
Date: 1806
Medium: OIl on Canvas
Location: Musée de l'Armée, Hôtel des Invalides, Paris
The painting shows Napoleon as emperor, in the costume he wore for his coronation, seated on a circular-backed throne with armrests adorned with ivory balls. In his right hand, he holds the scepter of Charlemagne. In his left hand, that of justice. On his head is a golden laurel wreath, similar to one worn by Julius Caesar. He also wears an ermine hood under the great collar of the Légion d'honneur, a gold-embroidered satin tunic and an ermine-lined purple velvet cloak decorated with gold bees. The coronation sword is in its scabbard and held up by a silk scarf. The subject wears white shoes embroidered in gold and resting on a cushion. The carpet under the throne displays an imperial eagle. The signature INGRES P xit is in the bottom left, and ANNO 1806 in the bottom right.

Sooo some new/old/changed hcs for Jenny and Vee xD
Since we have Raph and Mikey with did-like system and Leo and Donnie are insomniacs I’ve decided to bestow them on sisters too xD
Jenny would be on team Raph|Mikey because of her Jessica alter-ego. (like to think that Jenny is more laid-back xD)
Tumblr media
Venus would be on Leo|Donnie team because you can’t live peaceful and restful life with Big Mama xD
Also. I like to think she named herself. And she picked ‘Venus’ because she is ALSO into stage magic.

Vanitas Portrait of the Painter
Artist: Antonie van Steenwinckel (Flemish, Unknown-1688)
Genre: Self Portrait
Date: 1678-1685
Collection: Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, Belgium
Description
A mirror reflects what is probably the self-portrait of the painter Antonie van Steenwinckel. He is a distinguished man and is looking out at the viewer. His distinctive features are drooping eyelids, a wide, protruding nose and a neatly trimmed moustache and beard.
He is wearing a dark grey cloak and a high collar with white lace. On his blond locks he has a large hat with a high brim. An hourglass, two books and a skull are displayed on a wooden table with an open, empty drawer. The objects are reflected in the black-framed mirror that a young man is holding up by the sides. He, too, is looking at the viewer.
This painting combines a self-portrait with a vanitas scene, both of which allude to the brevity of life. Van Steenwinckel leaves no doubt about the relativity of his mirror image. He shows himself to be content and self-assured. But the hourglass, book and skull in the foreground remind us and the artist that the time, life and fame that people can enjoy on earth do not last forever.
