Occupy Wall Street, Corporate Greed, and Why We Need to Go Bigger (Spoiler: Corporate greed didn’t go anywhere, and it’s time to fight back, again)
In 2011, Occupy Wall Street took to the streets to show the world what was wrong with this system: the 1% hoarding wealth while the rest of us suffer. It wasn’t just about money—it was about the way power and resources are controlled by a tiny group of elites who have the luxury of completely disregarding the people and the planet they destroy to get richer.
And here we are, over a decade later, and guess what? Corporate greed hasn’t just stuck around—it’s gotten worse. 🤑💸
1. We’ve Always Known Who’s Getting Rich (Spoiler: It’s Not Us)
When Occupy took to the streets, it wasn’t about saying that the system was broken—it was about showing that it was broken. And here we are, still fighting for economic equality while the wealthiest corporations continue to rape the earth for resources and exploit workers for profit. Yeah, the banks still have their hands in the till—but now, it's big oil companies, tech giants, agribusiness, and fast fashion companies that are all still playing the same game. They just got better at hiding it. 🌍💰
2. But Here’s the Thing: The Planet’s Paying the Price Too
We’re not just talking about economic inequality anymore. Oh no, we’re talking about environmental collapse. 🌱🔥 These same corporations, the ones that are profiting from all of this destruction, are the same ones that are polluting our oceans, tearing down forests, and turning the planet into a giant dumpster fire. It’s not just about austerity anymore—it’s about the future of our world. It’s not just about money now, it’s about the fact that these companies are literally poisoning the planet for profit. 🌊🌳
3. So What Do We Do Now? We Need to Go Bigger Than Wall Street
We all saw what happened when Occupy Wall Street shook up the system. But we need to realize that the fight isn’t over. Corporate greed isn’t just an economic issue anymore—it’s an existential crisis. These companies didn’t just get rich—they’ve pushed the planet to the brink of collapse, and it’s up to us to stop them. 🌍⚡
We need a bigger movement—one that doesn’t just push back against banks but challenges the entire system that lets these corporations destroy the world for profit. We need to be louder, harder, and angrier. We need to occupy more than Wall Street—we need to occupy the future.
4. This Is About More Than Just Protests, It’s About Rebuilding
It’s time for systemic change. Real change. No more half-measures. The Green New Deal? Yes. Renewable energy? Hell yes. But we also need to start holding corporations accountable for every drop of oil, every wrecked ecosystem, and every exploited worker. No more blind eyes. These corporations need to be held to account for the destruction they’re causing—and not just the financial damage. The planet is paying the price.
It’s time for a new revolution—a fight to hold corporate giants responsible for what they’ve done to the planet. We’re not just protesting for economic fairness; we’re protesting for environmental justice.
We need to be loud. We need to be in their faces. And most importantly, we need to be bigger than Wall Street. The fight isn’t just for wealth redistribution—it’s for planetary survival.

Besides driving “too frequently” and driving “gas guzzlers” ⛽️ 🚗, people in U.S., Canada, Middle East, Europe, Japan, Korea, China, and others fly daily in a large number of environmentally destructive 🚢 🚁✈️ aircraft’s esp. richer and powerful ones who even mindlessly fly “private planes”! Zero care for climate change and not at all mindful of their bad conducts which are ruining the planet 🌎 and affecting the humans and other species 🐝 🦅 🦩🦉🕊️ 🐢 🐍 🐜 🐠 🦈 🐳 🌳🦌💦🦀🦡🐘
How about everyone lives like #carbonnegative #Bhutan #Bhutanese, #Surinam #Panama and #carboneutral #Guyana #Gabon #Comoros #Niue #Madagascar in harmony with the environment, reduced or no air travels, certainly no frequent flying or private planes, reducing driving, no driving unless absolutely necessary, reducing energy consumption, retrofitting houses for energy efficiency, using environmentally sustainable materials and technologies, protecting forests and wilderness, protecting wetlands, banning plastics, re-wilding lands, increasing taxes on hydrocarbons and energy use.
It is especially “aweful” as we keep seeing U.S. Supreme Court, other courts, and States undermine environmental protections and tribal rights in protecting tribal areas, etc. Those of us us Canada and East coast of U.S. got the taste of awful air we breathe, imagine that for 365 days straight! As we know climate crisis is not limited to national borders. Looking forward to a #climatejustice in Held v. State of Montana

Via @gretathunberg This year we have seen many defining elections all over the world. On November 5th, it is time for one of the most powerful countries in the world – the USA – to go to the polls. It is probably impossible to overestimate the consequences this specific election will have for the world and for the future of humanity.
There is no doubt that one of the candidates – Trump – is way more dangerous than the other. But no matter if Trump or Harris wins, the USA – a country built on stolen land and genocide on indigenous people – will still be an imperialist, hyper-capitalist world power that will ultimately continue to lead the world further into a racist, unequal world with an ever increasingly escalating climate- and environmental emergency.
With this in mind, my main message to Americans is to remember that you cannot only settle for the least worst option. Democracy is not only every four years on election day, but also every hour of every day in between. You cannot think you have done “enough” only by voting, especially when both those candidates have blood on their hands.
Let’s not forget that the genocide in Palestine is happening under the Biden and Harris administration, with American money and complicity. It is not in any way “feminist”,“progressive” or “humanitarian” to bomb innocent children and civilians – it is the opposite, even if it is a woman in charge. And this is of course one example among many of American imperialism. I cannot for my life understand how some can even pretend to talk about humanitarian values, without even questioning their own role in further deepening global oppression and massacres of entire countries.
So, Americans, you must do everything in your power to call out this extreme hypocrisy and the catastrophic consequences American imperialism has on a global scale. Be uncomfortable, fill the streets, block, organise, boycott, occupy, explicitly call out those in power whose actions and inaction lead to death and destruction. Join and support those who are resisting and leading the change. Nothing less will ever be acceptable.

KALIKASAN PEOPLE’S NETWORK FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Statement
15 February 2024
Justice for the victims of the Maco disaster! Moratorium on mining in the area now!
Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment joins the outcry of local communities and civil society groups following the disastrous landslide in Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao De Oro last February 6. As of writing, over 70 people have been confirmed dead due to the disaster, 32 have been injured, while several more remain missing — the worst disasters to hit Davao de Oro in the past ten years.
The fact that mining operations were allowed in the area — declared a “no build zone” following prior landslides in 2007 and 2008 — is cause for immense alarm. While the Razon-owned Apex Mining Corporation Inc., the mining company operating in the area, has attempted to distance itself from claims that its mining operations directly contributed to the landslide, it is clear that the company must still be held accountable for failing to provide adequate measures to protect their workers and nearby communities from disasters such as these. It must still be held accountable for pursuing extensive mining operations in the area despite the hazardous nature of the terrain.
The Maco incident is another stark reminder of how companies have joined forces with complicit government agencies to the detriment of local communities. This has all taken place under the framework of the Mining Act of 1995, which has historically provided little space for communities and civil society to assert their right to a clean, healthy, and safe environment against the profiteering of multinational companies and local oligarchs. As the Marcos Jr. regime continues the business-as-usual export-oriented, profit-driven mining industry in the country, we can only expect more and more disasters like this to occur, especially in the context of worsening climate change.
We join the call for a swift and independent investigation to determine the full extent of accountability on the part of Apex Mining Corporation, as well as all government agencies that permitted large-scale mining operations in the area. In the meantime, we call on a moratorium on Apex Mining's operations in the area pending this assessment of their operations. We also call for continued support and aid to be provided to the affected families and communities, not only in the short term but also to ensure that the long-term economic and social impacts of the disaster are addressed in the process.

I can’t say this on FB because it’s probably gonna be too #political and I can’t afford to get in trouble, but I’m not at the Climate Strike — instead I am at my desk, preparing to refuse two applications for illegally removed native vegetation, and requesting revegetation plans for another. It’s not often government is seen to be on the side of the environment, but today I am. #startwhereyouare #usewhatyouhave #dowhatyoucan #climatestrike
